I actually sequenced my Fantom 8 drums with my Push 2 in Ableton Live 11 on several tracks which was beyond cool. I made a midi map template in Ableton to match the fantom midi notes. My next project would be to purchase a set of Roland V-Drums and use them as a controller for my Fantom or even my Maschine Mk3. Cool video to see V-Drums used a controller for the Fantom drum kits.
Getting all Dave Weckl songo on us @ 11:37. My understanding is that the digital vdrum pads are each class-compliant USB MIDI devices with preset MIDI note numbers, and can be plugged into the Fantom that way too.
You can connect any of the MIDI drums out there with a midi out slot, even the old ones :D they just have to send midi data to Fantom. I have Medeli and use it sometimes with Kontakt as a midi instrument.
I'm planning to buy the roland TD-02KV V-drums, is it als possible to attach this drumset with the roland fantom 8? Will it also work fine just like the drumset in the video? Will it work with the sequencer? Instead of the MIDI input, can i use one of the external USB devive ports on the fantom? Thanks a lot for the answers.
It's a pity that Fantom doesn't have presets for sound effects. It is a pity that you can not fully edit the sample. It's a pity that when outputting the samplepad to the audio track, the volume is not adjusted by the fader. It's a pity that the Assign function parameters are only for 8 tracks, not 16! I would like to see a full-fledged arpeggiator section. I ❤️Fantom. Please, Diaz, pass my message to the Roland engineers 🙏🏼.
Great stuff, thanks a lot! Just a couple of quick questions: Is the full recording of the live session somewhere up where we could watch it? And another one, as it has been mentioned at least twice during the video: Could you come back to that compression bit, please, maybe in a dedicated video? That would be great, thanks a lot in advance! Cool about this is, it works with every instrument that has MIDI controller capabilities. Drums are a good example, of course, but it sure works with wind controllers too (how about a video on that?! ;-) ), guitar controllers … and if one uses analog devices with additional pickups, one could record the MIDI data as well as the sound. But here is the question: Would that be possible on the Fantom? Recording MIDI and doing sampling at the same time, so that MIDI data and sound would be from the very same take? Thanks in advance for considering coming back to the questions above … and thanks for those Fantom and Fantom-0 tutorials!
This is next level game changer. Question. Ok so you know you can take live guitar and bass and track into the Fantom as a wave; can you do the same with live drums? If you can link it up with something like an Apolo quad?
Unspoken and maybe obvious… MIDI channel 10 on your drum module corresponds with *zone 10* on your Fantom (Whichever channel you have selected on your module, is the Fantom Zone number that sounds are drawn from)
It’s sad how Roland dumbed down the sampler which is what really seperated this board from the rest. The sounds are good but not the greatest (that’s Nord). Where Fantom ALWAYS shined was being the ultimate workstation. After the Fantom X ,so many producers stopped buying the Fantom because of this one thing You could live chop the sample straight onto the keys and tempo sync it. Now in 2024 it can’t do what the 1991 board could do. It does less and that’s sad because it’s barely a workstation because you can’t use it alone now, you would have to have an Mpc. It’s now just a 3rd place keyboard/synth behind nord and Montage. Fantom was the number one all around board regardless if the sounds weren’t the best because they were good enough to stand up anywhere in any fight. Please update this board to sample better than the Fantom X. I think Roland should create an Update store where individuals can ipdate their board specifically to how they want it and pay for what they want and go in their own direction. People would pay for their own updates which is where I think the future will go one day.
That is SO cool! Great video, thanks for sharing 🤘
I would like to see a changes made to midi notes after recording (like mismatch correct, quantize swing, etc.) if this is possible in TR-Rec?
Another great vid, thanks Ed (and Pat)
Great how you explain things. Great Instrument. Very Cool

wow my TD27 and my Fantom 7 will work great for this
Great idea ED ! Thanks.
I just have one question. Is there away to separate and multi-track the drums in a DAW? I can do this with my Yamaha Motif ES.

fantom 6 does not show bpm loop to insert the loop. like fantom g6 . so pls update this feature
Can I connect the roland handsonic hpd 20 to the fantom via midi and record the pattern in fantom while playing on the handsonic ?

Cool! Is there a way to separate tracks like Mpc
Hi
how to connect Roland FANTOM to MX-1 via AIRA USB?
I've programmed drums using an electronic kit on a Roland workstation for over a decade. Don't know why more people aren't doing this.

Ed, Can you do a quick video on how to export SMF file from Roland Fantom to DAW…
RANDY JUDAH TORREZ ❤️ <
Why is that FANTOM not red on the back panel......?
Instead of V-drums could I do the same with my TR-8S?
Yep! (TR6S as well)
I've recently been eyeballing a octapad and were wondering if this would work with that unit as well?
As far as I know - every Modul with MIDI out, no matter what it is. You need to adjust channel and sound.
Finally something uselful after getting a ban from Roland after purchasing the Fantom 8
I'm pretty sure I can use the USB and do the exact same thing right?????????????????????????????????
I guess all support for the Fantom has stopped then?
Please upload abount changes new upadte 1.02

When will you fix the issue with notes cutting off with polyphony in Fantom. It’s 2023 and your flagships can’t play polyphonic voices ?? Shame.
