I was hating on this instrument when I first bought it, but as a standalone machine it's the bee's knees. I had to get rid of my juno DS so I stop comparing the sequencers. The machine is really a production suite, and it's badass.
Kudos Ed, this is EXACTLY what the Fantom range is needing. A building walkthrough and how to pull together all the sections of the Fantom from the sequencer to the sampler. I hope that this gets a series of vids. Added bonus, I love your style of music and come away inspired too. Thank you.
Good stuff Ed!! Thank you !I just got the fantom 06 and your tutorials have been tremendously helpful. I remember you also taught me how to use the jdxi when I first got that 6 years ago!!
Just got mine three days ago. The Loop Rec Sw is exactly what I was looking for! I was getting worried this thing couldn't actually replace my JD-Xi. Thanks, Ed!
Very helpful! I've been recording stuff with my fantom for almost a year now, but I haven't yet used this function, because mostly it didn't suit my composition and mixing style, which is essentially about layering and not having a 100% correct timing (I like that actually), but recently I started to focus more on pop-ambient-synth-style music, so then this stuff comes in handy. I think I will be using both workflows in the future, both recording track per track on a multitrack and step-recording whenever it suits the composition and serves the workflow. Glad these product support videos are there!
Hello, may I ask if you used to record on Fantom like a linear sequencer and not by pattern? And how did you do that since the only way to record is by pattern and the max length is 64 measures?
Great job, Ed, thank you very much! I feel that this is building up to what I had in mind when asking in the comments a couple of weeks ago. The thing is, sure, I do play around and find my approach to stuff, but with you showing how quick and easy it is to get the basic ideas recorded is so, so helpful. Of course, I still have to figure things out as far as my ideas and sounds and stuff is concerned. But these videos are just great, please keep them coming! Along with these, maybe one one incorporating PAD tracks (triggering pad sounds via keyboard/sequencer recording) would be helpful, too. And may one on which options are available to use arpeggios and/or chord memory on already recorded patterns (as variation or as help on building the arrangement. Thanks in advance for considering! :-) Sadly, seeing you sort of “struggling” when using the touch screen is some sort of relief as I already started to question myself whether I am just uncoordinated to use it correctly. ;-) Thanks again, Ed, this is great stuff!
Hello how are you ?? Is there any possibility of changing the sound without cutting off the previous sound that is playing? Can you explain in a video how to make it not cut??? or can not be?? Thanks bro. your videos are very good.
hi ed, your tutorials were helpful however i have no idea how to configure fantom with the new update for ableton live. Please ask Roland to make one. Thank you
great tutorial, thank you! does anyone know if you can send the click over usb, I had a look in system, it seems there's only main or sub out , thank you
Sir, Will you please describe how 16 track can I see in display at a time ? And how rythm pattern copy to rythm track. Please clearly describe hiw make s song and wright. I shall highly obliged to you.
Great tutorial. I just got my Roland Fantom 06. What i’d like to do is recording multi track and create one song. I normally start with the piano track from start to finish. Then followed by drums, bass, etc… But most of the songs that i’ve created would take longer than 64 measure. When a track hits 64 mark, it will stopped unfinished. Is there any way to record a longer track?
I use exactly the same way of recording, and with the Fa 06 it was possible. Did you find a way to do it with the Fantom too or the 64 measures are an inevitable limit? I think this is madness, as it is also midi data and not audio
Can you tell me how to control the pad zone using the piano roll? There are ready-made scenes on fantom 0, but I can’t figure out how to add a pad zone myself.
Hi Ed. Great tutorial. Just one question. If I record in one zone 64 measures for example and I want to start from measure 50 because of some mistake, is it possible to start playing from that measure? Thank you
question. I have external midi modules can i record like this but then choose to send one of the tracks such as the bass to an external bass sound and not the internal sound?
Hi ED . When I uploading expenson in fantom o6 .my set displaying msg. Licence error 1056 . Kindly remove the license. If I remove license what effect to face after that . Can I upload the expenson after that?
Can you make a video with a full song without a computer? You can easily make a song with the Yamaha Montage without a computer sadly extinct 2 weeks ago so I hope that they don't follow what Korg did and bring out the Nautilus with no sliders and much less on board Nautilus cheap version of Krnos. And they try to get more money off the Nautilus with aftertouch they should have had after touch on that right when it came out they can do a lot more with these keyboards if they really wanted to but they don't want to get ahead of Technology making it easier on you the consumer
Can someone help me please. I have a new Fantom 8 and really like the recording part of this instrument. I am frustrated and can’t find a solution or answer. On this video, at 2:49 to around 3:04 a prompt appears where I can set any tempo. It DOES NOT come up on my screen. What am I doing wrong… how do I bring up the time signature screen? I want a 12/4 but all I have now are 2 choices offered … a 3/4 and a 4/4. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks
It’s sad how Roland dumbed down the sampler which is what really seperated this board from the rest. The sounds are good but not the greatest (that’s Nord). Where Fantom ALWAYS shined was being the ultimate workstation. After the Fantom X ,so many producers stopped buying the Fantom because of this one thing You could live chop the sample straight onto the keys and tempo sync it. Now in 2024 it can’t do what the 1991 board could do. It does less and that’s sad because it’s barely a workstation because you can’t use it alone now, you would have to have an Mpc. It’s now just a 3rd place keyboard/synth behind nord and Montage. Fantom was the number one all around board regardless if the sounds weren’t the best because they were good enough to stand up anywhere in any fight. Please update this board to sample better than the Fantom X. I think Roland should create an Update store where individuals can ipdate their board specifically to how they want it and pay for what they want and go in their own direction. People would pay for their own updates which is where I think the future will go one day.
They need to make a keyboard that can do dubstep this keyboard is overpriced and I suspect because of the lights extra Connections in the back still should only be 3,000 and after having experienced with the roland V S the keys on this are nothing compared to that which was made in 2003 .hay roland get with it.. yeah I know it's on sale they'll probably be getting rid of it I'm Rollin will try to distract you the first thing you want to do is press one of those pads and there is some big sound that comes out but it's not something that you can do on this keyboard just alone
I tried reaching out to you about me putting a drive for 07 on my imac also do you have a video on how I can use my sounds inside of logic pro xcan you help.

Somebody was saying you can only have 8 sounds in certain situations. Is that true?
Exactly what I asked how to do on FB. As per the usual, Ed Diaz coming in clutch with the How to’s. Thank you sir 🙏🏼

Puedes grabar audios de voces como tracks?
While I uploading expenson in fantom o6 then message displaying for remove licence key. What Can we do ? Plz suggest 🙏 🙂
Can a pattern be saved on to the pads on fantom 06? And play live along with the pattern changing other scenes?
Expecting Roland or some expert to answer my query pls
As far as I know I can't. You can export a pattern as an MID file. Do not know if you can import a MID file into a Pad.
Is the fantom 06 version the length up to 32 and not 64? Because with me in 06 the maximum is up to 32.
I've had this board some of these beat sound like something you would get off a $500 Casio keyboard. Especially the arrangement keyboards

You need to update your fantom to a newer version . This should do the trick.
hello I have a Fantom 06 how to loop from 30 to 32 on a piece?
Just in case you haven't found out by now, everytime you make a new pattern, you can change the amount of measures.
for those, like me, whose fingers have a bit of trouble touching those little squares, a passive stylus will do the trick just fine....
