If you have a Nvidia 20 series (e.g. RTX 2060), or any GPU with a VirtualLink USB-C port, then you can connect the PSVR2 without needing the adapter. The caveat is if you use this method, the Sense controllers might have a harder time pairing with the PC. So... It still won't work even when less hardware required. Brilliant.

And now on my 4090 the thing runs really poorly (insane reprojection and frame rate way below 90) , bad tracking, left controller being frozen and after 3 or 5 seconds it comes back ( skyrim- nomans'sky) with beat saber it feels like there is latency or the air around the controllers became half solid and they have to get through it , and now the terrible tracking with RE praydog's mod resident evil village. 30 frames, and left controller losing it
Which is why it should be the adapter itself handling that, and not the PC. If Sony cared about a good experience, they would have added the same BT capabilities that the PS5 has right into the adapter, then made the connection to the controllers automatic and handled by the _adapter itself,_ and the controller data transferred to the PC via USB. Kind of brutal though that you need a ps5 to update them. Unless they ensure all new controllers bought after the pc adapter released has the firmware. But what if someone is unlucky and ends up buying an old stock version of psvr2 intending to use it for pc? Hopefully you can upgrade firmware by plugging it in via usb c to pc.
@@DaRkLoRd-rc5yu I think the psvr software on steam can do that, it updated the firmware of my headset. I didn’t think to connect my controllers via usb at the time. I bet it would do those too otherwise it would be very problematic
Had similar issues with the controllers but 2 things helped: I removed and repaired the controllers (the 2 at same time pressing the 4 buttons), I moved the BT antenna 1-2 feet away from my tower and the experience is now much better with less connecting issues
In fact the instructions screen and the troubleshooting say to pair the 2 controllers at once… we just do what we are used to do normally instinctively
I noticed this computer has both integrated Bluetooth and the TPLink dongle installed in the Device Manager. When switching to new Bluetooth hardware, any paired devices should be unpaired and then the old hardware either uninstalled or disabled in Device Manager before enabling the new hardware. Otherwise when you use Windows Bluetooth settings, Windows will use the first integrated Bluetooth because it is the first installed hardware on the PC. In short, disable integrated Bluetooth before using any new Bluetooth dongle. Connect to a USB 2.0 port with an extension cable and install the most up to date Bluetooth software driver from the Bluetooth manufacturer website.
this has probably already been said (don't have time to read the comments section)... have you updated the BT firmware for your adaptor from their official website ? I've done that and all bluetooth problems went away, now works flawlessly (TPlink 500 adaptor) ohh also i run it on an extension cable away from PC
you'd think someone in charge of reviewing tech (especially PC related ones) would know how to update drivers, but this is probably a certified Cuphead tutorial moment tbh.
Z390 Aorus Master here. Initially I had issues with the controllers disconnecting. I just played a long session with no issue, but I first had to update to the latest Intel bluetooth driver, make sure no other Bluetooth hardware was connected, remove and resync the controllers. Then, voila! It (surprisingly) worked like a charm. I also moved the antenna to the top of my PC case. Also, turn off motion smoothing in SteamVR. It was gross.
I gotta say I realled enjoyed Past Ian's "Theehee, I'll drop the box again because that'll rile them up"-moment, not knowing what was to come and how it would lead to even more "skill issue/worked for me/just connect the things" comments. Bluetooth on Windows is one of those technologies that either works totally seemlessly or doesn't work at all, and it's a coin flip as to which one you'll get on any given day.
Gladiators ready. PS VR2 ready. PC adaptor ready. PC ready. Bluetooth..............not ready.......ready........not ready....... Ah, the joys of gaming.
Yesterday I spent some 7-8 hours ❤ 😂😂going into bed at 4 am in morning trying to set up PSVR2 with PC adaptor and bluetooth Asus USB-BT500. At start I managed to link up both controllers(after an hour or so) without Asus USB-BT500. I could not see virtual controller lines and added that bluetooth adapter. Could connect only one controller. Deleted other bluetooth options on PC. Updating drivers, learning how to remove stubborn bluetooth devices from DEVICE MANAGER on PC via REGISTRY EDITOR. It was long. I managed to go ahead with one attached controller (left). I was in virtual desktop but could not fully go into Assetto Corsa VR via content manager. Still learning. I think I’ll try to add my new Pimax now and compare. Another funny PAINFUL problem I faced is my bluetooth mouse Logitech. When I turn PSVR2 headset on the mouse stops working 90%. It is some interference there. Had to use time again to fiind and change battery till I realised AA battery is no problem. I attached bluetooth magicpad from 2011 imac to solve mouse problem.
I just got my adapter yesterday and played half life Alyx for like 5 hours on my psvr2. If anyone wondering, yes the adapter works flawlessly. I have a Lenovo laptop with rtx 270 super with built in Bluetooth. I had no tracking issues whatsoever.
I was having also issues to connect both controllers at same time but updating controllers solved the issue, I have been playing 2 weeks with the PS VR2 on PC for two weeks without too much issues, but I has seen that a lot of persons having problems with the bluetooth 😥
@@Zastrutzki If you mean signal conflicts, that something that Bluetooth is designed to cope with, you can have multiple Bluetooth controllers in the same room and they happily work alongside each other; pretty much every mobile phone has its own controller, you don't see them freaking out because there's more than one phone in the room. Now, if you mean PC driver conflicts, Sony could build that into the app so that that controls the Bluetooth in the adaptor rather than being a device assigned to the PC.
I had no issues connecting my PSVR2 controllers via bluetooth. However I could not use my Xbox controller aftewards. I think your problem could be your already connected devices, at first glance, it seems the amount of devices you can use with bluetooth when you have sense controllers connected, is pretty limiting.
They still show up as single devices, one per controller, so there's no limit on other devices. The only potential problem there could be if they were actively interfering with things.
Please connect to a USB 2.0 port at the back or use an extension cable from the USB 2.0 port to anywhere suitable, or use a USB 2.0 port at the front if it has it. This is a quirk of Windows Bluetooth dongles with USB 3.0. By default Windows automatically installs the default Microsoft Driver, instead of this please download and install the Manufacturers driver from their website. This should improve your experience while using it with SteamVR. While pairing the VR controller in Windows Bluetooth settings, if it incorrectly pairs the device in the "Other devices" category or as a "HID compliant game controller", please unpair the VR controller and add it again until both controllers are listed in the "input devices" category as a "PlayStation VR2 Sense Controller". After it has been configured, you should see consistent performance and fewer issues. This advice applies to any Bluetooth dongle for Windows.
UPDATE: yes I spent 7-8hours other day trying to connect controllers, went to sleep 4am without success. But after reading some clever comments here the solution was simple. I have wifi antenna, apparently built in bluetooth use it for signal. I moved this antenna very near to controllers and it connected. I did not have ASUS bluetooth adapter connected. Only one controller in SteamVR was shoving virtual laser line, other not. My usb extension cable arrived, I might use it with ASUS bluetooth adapter, will experiment. thanks for sharing your option of making that thing work. My right controller with asus bt500 just won't connect.
1:36 I can't believe you've done this.. again. Blue USB is USB 3, probably not 3.1 or 3.2. I still don't like that they're only giving this 5 volts. The DP cable & 12 volts would have been able to do HDR too, but.. I suppose they want it to be better on PS5. Same reason for not including Bluetooth that actually works with the controllers. Corpo nonsense. You don't always need to "add a device" like that Bluetooth dongle; many of them use HID driverless plug & play stuff these days, which is a generic input/output standard for peripherals. I would recommend doing the following: turning all the things off or unplugging them, removing all your new stuff from the device manager, turning off the onboard Bluetooth hardware (so it doesn't conflict), plugging in the new Bluetooth dongle & making sure that's the one being used for the OS Bluetooth (instead of the onboard), then launching the PS App, then pairing the controllers again right from the start.
@@platform32 Wow that is impressively poor then. It did seem as though the bit with the app was the fault of the app & not the rest of it though, so perhaps at least that bit will get sorted out.
It is odd that HDR is unavailable but it will still have much greater contrast than any other headset for that price. After all this was console tech that was most likely sold for a loss to begin with and had to pivot to pc to sell AND it was discounted at the same time. Ive seen VR channels recommend this over quest 3, even with some of the features being removed. Of course if your not tech savvy the quest 3 is a better buy though. Too bad a reviewer doesn't seem to need any knowledge at all of the tech world.
@@Space-_-Bender Yea I think that's just down to the amount of power driving it, & them wanting it to look better via PS5. I would be interested in knowing the bit depth of the thing on PC though, whether it actually supports 10bit colour even in SDR.

I noticed from your Bluetooth menu you have a keyboard and mouse connected. Disconnect those. One of the main troubleshooting tips is to clear the other devices attached (it explains why mine worked no problem, my keyboard and mouse and headphones are wired)
No issues with the bluetooth controllers (MSI MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK motherboard). But getting the headset to work was a headache and a half. "SteamVR failed to initialize for unknown reasons" is not a helpful error message!! Then having to reboot several times as SteamVR or the PSVR2 app just locks my computer. Eventually I got it working. Halflife Alyx is great. But IL-2 Sturmovik runs at about half the framerate as the Quest 3 for some reason (maybe as I used OpenXR for the Q3 ?).
what is your onboard bluetooth chip? i have asus x570 and also aftermarket PCE card with intel Ax-210 which is 5.3 bluetooth certified and cant get it to work. One controller shows up as Input device and second one shows up as "other devices"
@@Cool_Hand_Luke77 All I know is it's part of the Intel Z790 chipset and "Supports Bluetooth 5.3, FIPS, FISMA". Also the WiFi antenna is also used for the bluetooth.
I think PC's can only have one bluetooth adapter. So you probably have to disable the older bluetooth you were using at the start. Also you should update the driver on the tp link bluetooth apparently. Once you sort out the Bluetooth connection. Then you can get onto the bit where steam VR won't always start!
When adding controllers to Windows Settings, depending on your Bluetooth device and drivers, Windows may list the VR controllers as a HID-compliant game controller. When it does this, it needs to be unpaired, and you need to add it again so that it is correctly listed as PlayStation VR2 Sense Controllers for both hands. Also some of the rubbish bluetooth dongles sometimes add the controllers into the "other devices" category instead of the "input devices category". If this occurs, it needs to be unpaired and added again until they both are listed together in the "input devices" category. Then the PlayStation VR2 application does see them as connected and it will allow you to progress into the SteamVR play area setup screen on first launch. These are Windows quirks and this is why people find console gaming more convenient. When configured, the experience is better than console.
I give up for the moment. After 90 minutes I was not able to start a game. I'm sure my pc meets the requirements. What a joke. I remember I could get psvr2 with ps5 up and runing in 30 minutes, with no problems. Sony I hate you.
Disconnect the controllers of the playstation then setup the controllers on ur pc. I had the same issue but common sense fixed it. I got the same bluetooth tp link thingy and it works just fine
Since buying it about a month back, I have loved playing with my PSVR2 on my PS5. And I was so excited when they announced we'd be able to play it on PC as well, coz I've had a VR ready PC for a couple of years too. But this controller mayhem seems to be entirely Sony's fault. They knew exactly what chip would work perfectly because they install it in the PS5 consoles. But it was too much effort to put that same chip into this adaptor? So that they could be 100% certain it would be compatible with the Sense controllers out of the box? I'm still excited to try it, but the number of additional kit I've now had to buy just in the hopes it will work once it finally arrives is crazy. It should have only ever needed the adapter box and a cable for the video. That's it. Add in the fact we still cannot buy a second set of controllers, so that we don't need to go through this every time we want to switch back and forth between PC and PS5 and it seems like Sony are only in VR for the ability to say that they are. Not out of any real desire to push the industry forward.
Mileage varies depending on your gaming patterns. For people like Ian, who prefer playing on consoles where peripherals target limited hardware sets, having to deal with the vagaries of PCs is indeed a nightmare. If you’re primarily a PC gamer or have built PCs, you’ll have a much easier time.
i see that you already had intel wireless Bluetooth in device manager on you screen? might your motherboard as already Bluetooth (intel wifi/bluetooth). might not like having 2 bluetooth devices at same time?
Yep, I had previously connected to my onboard, where the controllers lagged. I had to disable that to use the TP Link dongle; the same one Ian has. I can't say the setup was enjoyable, but it's now working.
did you try uninstalling the left controller's current driver in Device Manager then re-doing the process? (Should be obvious but right click it and Uninstall Device) Seems like it paired but corrupted somewhere? EDIT nvm saw you did it in the video towards the end
Also people can try connect their controllers before buying the adapter, I set mine up before th3 adapter arrived as heard people had issues , but I was lucky enough to have my random cheap 5.1 Bluetooth adapter work 1st try and no issues with tracking so far either, granted most my time so far has been trying to sort mods out &uevr injector with little luck
Not being funny but did you have the WIFI antennas attached to the PC (assuming you are not using a laptop here)? BT uses the WIFI antennas so if you don't have those attached the you wont get a signal.
@@AthAthanasiusBut is true for the integrated BT Ian tried at first, and there's a possibility it was still the one trying to connect even after plugging in the USB one.
@@AthAthanasius that is true, however the plug in one's are hit and miss when it comes to signal and range for the same reason. I use a plug in one on my Misterfpga and its been fine, however originally I tried it with an old one I had in a drawer and it was awful.
After hearing reports of Bluetooth connection problems, I ended up buying a Bluetooth 5.4 dongle before my adapter arrived. In the end, setup was a breeze and I didn't even need the 5.4 adapter. The PC's internal Bluetooth worked wonderfully. I now have a Bluetooth dongle that I use to hold my room door.

It worked for me first time with the BlueTooth connection. my PC dosen't have it so I got that adapter but what I didn't relize was the Displayport, thought it was just HDMI and not a special type of connection.
I actually managed to start Alyx, but my controllers keep disconnecting (1 scenario) or SteamVR keeps telling me to connect controllers but when I look in Windows bluetooth settings, the bloody controllers ARE connected. Found out about bluetooth adapters compatible with PSVR2 on PC (compatible). I ordered TP-Link UB500, hopefully this will sort the problems out.
This may or may not be relevant: I have a generic game controller that has a Bluetooth function, and for the last few weeks it would drop it blue tooth connection. Long story short, the battery pack was insufficient for some reason, but regular batteries allow the connection to be stable. The left controller may be have issues with the battery.
If it was that, they wouldn't work on the PS5 either, yet they do. The battery issue is a rare one but it can happen on all kinds of devices; often rechargeable NiMH batteries run at too low a voltage compared with alkaline or lithium ones, or the voltage begins to drop off too soon. Other devices are perfectly fine with any type.. 🤷
@@nightcatarts Also I forgot to mention the controller in question can connect through cable, it's own dongle or through bluetooth, but only the bluetooth was affected by the battery

I think Ian's mistake was pairing the controllers before launching the PS app. That confused it as I think it wasn't expecting controllers to be connected. Pretty shit programming. There is a firmware updater for dualsense controller on PC. I assume there is also one for PSVR 2 controller, supposedly
@@tyrannicpuppy Fair question. The discounted price was better than upgrading to a Quest 3 (along with better headstrap, knuckles etc) from my Quest 2 and I had heard good things.
I do plan to get a PS5 in the future for the VR exclusives, but in the meantime try it for PCVR.
After a couple hours I managed to get the controllers to update. But can't help but notice the mura 😔
@@j-dog69 Right. We didn't get the discount in my country. That would be a pretty compelling reason.
I discovered that I had an old openVR advanced settings app installed. Getting rid of that and it now works fine now. I do have a usb extender plugged into a 2.0 port as well.
Just sent this back to Sony, got the controllers connected, but didn't recognise the various DP cables I was using, I'm £20 out of pocket through buying cables.
@bravo478b1 might sound like a stupid question? but you did plug your DP 1.4 cables into your GPUs display port slot? a pal of mine plugged his into a display port slot on his motherboard!! 😯 he phoned me nearly crying 😭 and when I went through it with him he went duh......................... lol, he said he got confused with the instructions saying to plug the DP cable into the Desktop!! and assumed it meant DP on motherboard bless him 🙏 maybe they should have said DP on your graphics card.......................... funny, but he was chuffed after!! and I had no problems with bluetooth connection setting up 👍 have an onboard PCI-E x1 wireless + BT 5.2 card.
Why are you trying to use TWO bluetooth adaptors at the same time, that's a recipe for disaster.
Begs the Question as to why the fuck that Adapter doesn't incorporate the necessary BT Adapter, huh? 🤔🤨😏
I had to update the firmware in the controllers via the ps5 before they showed up via Bluetooth on my pc
How exactly? Just a PS5 update? Or the controllers themselves?
@@DissTrackTedI hadn’t used my ps5 for a while and was having trouble with getting the controllers to pair with my pc and thought it may be a firmware issue, so I connected everything up to the ps5 and fired it up. And there was a firmware update that kicked in for the controllers, they then showed up straight away when pairing with my pc
Incredibly frustrating? Yes.
Good quality content for this channel? Also yes.
We've all experienced what Ian is experiencing.
It is not like Sony couldn't add a BT module in that crappy box to fix this whole issue...
Connect harder, Ian. _Connect HARDER._
So glad it's Sunday! Happy Sunday everyone!
this has probably already been said (don't have time to read the comments section)... have you updated the BT firmware for your adaptor from their official website ?
Oh, Heck, Ian was having such a time with this. So relatable
I gotta say I realled enjoyed Past Ian's "Theehee, I'll drop the box again because that'll rile them up"-moment, not knowing what was to come and how it would lead to even more "skill issue/worked for me/just connect the things" comments. Look at him, so much younger! so naive! oh, sweet summer child.
no problems here works well
feel your pain im still havnt got anywhere with the controllers
Wow, I'd never experienced second hand tech troubleshooting frustration quite like this. Thanks!
Bluetooth on Windows is one of those technologies that either works totally seemlessly or doesn't work at all, and it's a coin flip as to which one you'll get on any given day.
Gladiators ready.
PS VR2 ready.
PC adaptor ready.
PC ready.
Bluetooth..............not ready.......ready........not ready.......
Ah, the joys of gaming.
F-ing hilarious! 😂👍
Because you have built in blueetooth....desktop PCs don't have that.
Thanks. I’ve just bought the adapter and cables and was planning on using it with my laptop.
@@acurisur Desktop PCs can have that. Many motherboards have built in wireless combined with bluetooth.
Works fine on my motherboard’s bluetooth.
I was having also issues to connect both controllers at same time but updating controllers solved the issue, I have been playing 2 weeks with the PS VR2 on PC for two weeks without too much issues, but I has seen that a lot of persons having problems with the bluetooth 😥
They should have put a dedicated Bluetooth chip in the adaptor...
Imagine it conflicting with the on-board BT that's on most motherboards these days. That's gonna make for some fun times!
@@YenRug Yes, this is what they should have done. They could have made sure it had a proper aerial in it, for a start.
1:37 I was just waiting to see this! lol
@@nightcatartsI think Bluetooth 5.4 only allows up to 7 devices concurrently.
The level of unhinged frustration and rage actually almost makes me feel bad for finding this so amusing.
Thank you for your sacrifice Ian 😂
I just watched Aoife’s video over at Larian Studio livingher best life which made me wonder “How’s Eurogamer doing?” Then I watched this video.
Oh I did all of that and MUCH more - I have HOURS of footage of me trying different things to make it work. Never touching it again.
@@nightcatarts yeah. For those who have it up and running I'm hearing good things about the colors and lack of compression. I imagine I'd feel the same since I'm not SUPER technical about that kind of stuff
Just helped someone with the same or extremely similar issue, took about 10 mins. The first hint was the controller showing in device manager but not under input in the BT control panel.
I noticed from your Bluetooth menu you have a keyboard and mouse connected. Disconnect those. One of the main troubleshooting tips is to clear the other devices attached (it explains why mine worked no problem, my keyboard and mouse and headphones are wired)
Ian you deserve an award for what you put yourself through for the VR community, heck this alone deserves a medal.
What was the secret? I *think* it was when I moved to the leftmost displayport port on my GPU.
what is your onboard bluetooth chip? i have asus x570 and also aftermarket PCE card with intel Ax-210 which is 5.3 bluetooth certified and cant get it to work.
I love how much younger the Outro Ian looks before the ordeal, that took years from his life! 😂
This poor guy, I'm so sorry you went through this
Mileage varies depending on your gaming patterns. For people like Ian, who prefer playing on consoles where peripherals target limited hardware sets, having to deal with the vagaries of PCs is indeed a nightmare. If you’re primarily a PC gamer or have built PCs, you’ll have a much easier time.
How does knowledge of pc gaming setups help you get through the hellish swamp that is Bluetooth?
@@soundyg7441 It means you can withstand more pain before throwing your entire setup out of a window.
i see that you already had intel wireless Bluetooth in device manager on you screen? might your motherboard as already Bluetooth (intel wifi/bluetooth). might not like having 2 bluetooth devices at same time?
Not true for an add-in BT adapter like he's using. Everything is in the dongle. My motherboard doesn't have any on-board BT support.
I've heard it works really well with the Asus bt500 5.0 Bluetooth adapter.
I would have lost my mind much earlier so fair play for sticking with it as long as you did!
You must maintain intense eye contact whilst connecting HARDER Ian.

Yeah, and no display port cord. I am going with the Pimax Crystal light. Better resolution, will have room for upgrading my system in the future. Whereas PSVR2 has pretty limited resolution.

100% a you problem
I just heard this exists yesterday and my first thought was "I wonder if Ian will use this and if its any good". I was also really wanting Ian to "drop" something again!

At the risk of asking a dumb question. Did you happen to try putting the controller in pairing mode first then opening the bluetooth pairing on your PC after that. Maybe your bluetooth device has a really long/inconsistent pairing refresh time.
I wonder if pressing the reset pin button on the vr controllers would get rid of all these problems..
Hey Ian, I got a question... I want to get a PSVR-2, but about how much space do you need for the headset? Also, would you recommend?
Poor Ian! Thank you for the review.
When was the last time you used it on PS5? Try connecting it to PS5 first and make sure firmware is updated
I think Ian's mistake was pairing the controllers before launching the PS app. That confused it as I think it wasn't expecting controllers to be connected. Pretty shit programming. Got mine earlier this week. It's a very Frankenstein's Monster set up with so many cables. However, once set up, it's running fantastic for me. Perhaps all the bugs have been ironed out as I did give it a couple of weeks before diving in. I'm also lucky that my motherboard's integrated Bluetooth is v5.3, which is optimal, apparently. Good thing is, I can also access all my games from my Meta/Facebook library using the Revive app. The headset itself is brilliant. Currently playing and enjoying Arizona Sunshine 2. It's so good!!
I managed to connect all the hardware according to the guide. Yet I can't start any VR game.
Thank you Ian for demonstrating all of PC's trap falls for us so we are mentally prepared when it's our turn!
I was tempted to buy this for HL Alyx, but if it doesn't work I guess I won't bother. The games I *really* want to play (AC Nexus and Batman) are Quest 3 exclusives anyway, and I'm not buying a Quest 3. Guess I'll just have to do without.
I have the same BT problem. You have un unpair pair them each time
But that's.. not how pairing works. That's why it's called pairing. WTF have Sony done.
