I made this with my daughter for her 9th birthday cake and it turned out fantastic (even though we cracked some of the edges accidentally when we were first handling it. All her friends were amazed and she was so proud!!
Hi Crumb Cake. It's absolutely true that these iso malt sails are gorgeous. However I want to also add that I love how CLEAR you are in your videos. It really makes it enjoyable when you don't assume that the audience knows about all the little details. Thank you!
lovely tutorial. thank you for sharing. I just have a question if I may ask. once we have delivered the cake, the customer will store it in the refrigerator until its needed. wouldn't isomalt melt ? is there a solution
Hi, yes it would melt. The customer has to know in advance that isomalt can not be refrigerated. I usually send it in a separate box and let them place it on top when they take the cake out of the fridge.
I’m doing a coca-cola themed cake soon and it will be “gravity-defying” as if the can of coke is pouring down and wanted to use the isomalt bowl method to be like a “splash” but I was wondering, after the bowl has been made, I will need to add the bowl to the top of the cake and then a wooden dowel will need to go through the middle so that the coke can spill down so I was wondering once the bowl is made could I use the torch to heat the center just a bit and then make a hole for the dowel to go through? Is that how you would do it? I hope I explained that well! 😅
Hmmm this is tricky. That could work but the bowl can be so fragile that it’s a bit risky. You might want to consider making a hole in the bottom of the bowl while it’s still firming up. I think it might be easier. You could put a small piece of a straw in the center when your pouring to maintain the hole. Or something else that won’t melt. That way you could slip the dowel through easily.
Oh yes I see what you’re saying!! That sounds much easier! I will definitely try making the whole while it’s still setting up! Not sure why I didn’t think of that! Lol!!! Thank you so much for your response and thank you for sharing this clear tutorial! ❤
How long before it mealts? Does it stand high heat like weather wise like if I use it for topping a cake and it’s hot outside will it mealt really easy?🙏🏼
Thank you so much for this lovely tutorial. My isomalt sails are very sticky even after spraying with the gloss spray, do you check the temperature of the isomalt when melting it, i don't know what i am doing wrong. thank you
I'm so sorry I didn't see your question. It could be related to the environment you live in. The more humidity, the stickier the sail will be. The cake gloss should make a big difference though, but you have to use small sprays, not too much at once or it can compromise the sail.
It cannot go in the fridge. Since it’s a hard candy, it also won’t need to. It will last for months on a container with lid. The cake will not affect it but don’t put it on until you’re ready to display the cake out of the fridge.
I tried to make isomalt for the first time, but it didn’t worked out for me. It was soft even after hours. Can you please tell me why it didn’t got hard
Hi. I apologize for missing your comment. I hope you’ve had success since then. The only thing I can think of is not cooking it long enough. High humidity climates can also make it more difficult. Have you been able to make one since?
You must live in a humid environment. I suggest using a cake gloss spray to seal it and keep it out of the fridge in a cool dry place. Spraying it seems to preserve it.
It can feel sticky. It has to do with humidity. It doesn’t hurt it, however it might weaken it if you live in a very humid climate. It’s better to keep it in a closed container until you need it. Cake gloss is a game changer though. It seals it up perfectly.
Thank you, I will have a new one out next week. I know it's been awhile. My husband was in an accident and is still recovering but getting better every day. As a result, the tutorials took a backseat for awhile. Thank you for noticing. Have a great evening!
@@TheCrumbCakeKitchen I’m very sorry to hear that, I’m wishing him a speedy recovery and hope you are managing well. I’m looking forward to watching your tutorial. Thank you 💕
You can also use PME glaze spray in small light coats. It is not absolutely necessary to spray them, I never did for the first two years that I made them. I only started spraying them recently.
It can if you live in a very humid climate. I spray mine with cake gloss to prevent. I’ve had isomalt display toppers for months without issue. Of course they are only for display at that point.
Hi. I’m working on translations right now. Within the next week, I’ll have the French translation up for you. Thank you for mentioning it and for watching. Hopefully the translations are accurate. 😊

Thank you for your comments. I try to include as much detail as possible for that reason.
You are quite the skilled pastry chef or artist I should say. I hope to find other tutorials. This looks so fun!
Thank you Brandon! This was easy and very forgiving.
Thanks for this! Your voice is so relaxing
Thank you :)
O was very anxious to do this, but u gave me confidence

Magnificent ❤
Magnifique même pas besoin de comprendre votre langage impeccable merci beaucoup pia
Stunning sails! Am just wondering once on the cake - how long will they last please - as in keep their same form? Many thanks 😊
I am so sorry that I did not see your message. The Saul’s will last indefinitely if they are kept away from moisture.
Wooww 👌nice
Thank you
This is amazing, thank you for showing it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful
What brand and size saucepan are you using in this video? I love small volume, but tall saucepans for things such as this.
Hi lovely video. What’s the reason behind my isomalt sail becoming sticky after an hour or so ?
Hi, humidity is the culprit. This is why I spray mine with cake gloss after set to stop the humidity from making it tacky.
Thank u for sharing
I will use your tutorial to make this.
If my sail breaks can it be used to heat again and melt it
Yes you can reheat it and pour it again. The only issue will be if you've added colour, the new sail will be a solid color, not streaked.
Will a glossed isomalt sail last for a week in a plastic container in dry storage
Amo isomalt ❤️
So amazing. How long its take melt madam? We can put it in room temprature or frige ?
Hi. You cannot put the completed sails in the fridge as the moisture will soften it. Please store it at room temperature. 😊
Really nice thank you
Thank you.
Wonderful 👏👏👏
Thank you
Awesome🥰😍😍🥰
Thanks 🤗
Thanks for this video. If it starts to melt or become extremely sticky, what can be done pls?
Your best bet is to spray it with cake gloss. It was always get sticky otherwise. 😊
@@TheCrumbCakeKitchen Many thanks...will try that.

Hi. I’ve never had one melt but I think very hot humid temps might be a struggle. Room temperature is best.
Can we decoratate the sail on d cake n store it in fridge?
Alike your video. Where did you buy this isomalt sugar? Thanks.
Can I do it with regular sugar?
Nice one...
Thanks 😊

Perhaps spreading the mixture with a hairdryer.
Could be worth trying. My only concern would be getting little airborne particles in it. Thank you for watching.
How can i store it? Will it be melting after setting on a cake?. Can i preserve it in fridge?
It cannot go in the fridge. Since it’s a hard candy, it also won’t need to. It will last for months on a container with lid. The cake will not affect it but don’t put it on until you’re ready to display the cake out of the fridge.
Please what is that thing she is holding like hand dryer
Aparte del isomalt, qué más le agrega en el minuto 1:05 por favor. Gracias.
One tablespoon of water.
What water did you use while melting isomalt?
Hi. I used tap water. Thank you

Hello. How much isomalt do you use for a sail ?
That's amazing 👏 Thanks
Hi, could u share information, i do isomalt until became glasses, but after 3 hour the isomalt start melt and stiky, need some advice
You must live in a humid environment. I suggest using a cake gloss spray to seal it and keep it out of the fridge in a cool dry place. Spraying it seems to preserve it.
How to store isomalt sails if we make it one day prior of delivery to customers??
Just store them in a dry, room temperature place. No refrigeration. If you choose to spray them with Cake Gloss, they will last for months. :)
Thank you 😊
Thank you. Fantastic video. How many grams of isomalt do you use for a single decoration for a cake's top?
+scrucio I use approximately 1 US cup. 😊
Traduza em português os nomes dos ingredientes por favor!...obrigada!..
Gostei muito xtou aprendendo muito
Does the sail not get sticky to touch ?
Hi. It can get sticky if the humidity is higher. I spray mine with cake gloss to seal it as a precaution.
I had made it by sugar. It was sticky. Isomelt will it be dry?
Yes it’s much more stable with isomalt. Will last longer. Thank you
Once set, could the isomalt be remelted ?
Yes it can. The only issue is that the colour will all blend together. You can remelt isomalt over and over.
Hi ma’am how can we store isomalt sail for two three days
does parchment paper work? oiled ofc
It might catch fire, so I wouldn’t torch over it.
Très beau
can i use it as topper on my icing cake?
Yes for sure, just don't refrigerate the topper.
@@TheCrumbCakeKitchen thank you
hi is the isomalt supposed to feel sticky? and how long can I keep it?
It can feel sticky. It has to do with humidity. It doesn’t hurt it, however it might weaken it if you live in a very humid climate. It’s better to keep it in a closed container until you need it. Cake gloss is a game changer though. It seals it up perfectly.
Can I use a granulated sugar if I don't have isomalt?
Sorry, not for this recipe.
안녕하세요, 이소말트로 처음에 만들면 맑고 투명한데 왜 냉장고에 넣으면 불투명하고 탁하게 바뀌나요?ㅜㅜㅜ
Hello. I’m so sorry I missed your comment. The completed sail cannot be refrigerated or it will fail. It must be kept in a humidity free place.
How long do you cook the Mixture ?
It’s not long. Just until completely melted.
I didn’t catch what it was you added on the isomalt, the clear liquid... i keep trying to rewind to understand
It was a small amount of water. No more than a tablespoon. It’s ok to eliminate the water altogether too.
Muy buen tutorial, solo que los subtítulos desaparecen demasiado rápido 😔
What is substitute of silicon mat?
To be honest, I can't think of anything else I would use in its place.

Is the heat a must to apply
Hi, do you mean with the blow torch? If so, then no, not at all. I use it to make minor adjustments to my own personal taste. Thank you
Interesting... how do you keep them from getting sticky.. TIA
I spray them with cake gloss and this prevents them from getting sticky.
Hi! It's a very detailed video. Thank you. What if I don't have cake gloss? What's the substitute?

Can we add water
Yes. A very small amount.
Thought isomalt was hygroscopic and gets sticky overnight.
It can if you live in a very humid climate. I spray mine with cake gloss to prevent. I’ve had isomalt display toppers for months without issue. Of course they are only for display at that point.
I have a question is edible ???
Yes, entirely edible. Candy is often made from it.
How much isolamt do you have in there?
Hi! I have approx 1.5 cups. It will depends on how big you want your sail. I always have some left over but I like to play it safe.
@@TheCrumbCakeKitchen thank you
what's the alternative to cake gloss?
I’m not aware of any substitutes.
What is cake gloss can you just tell
Just curious.. This is edible right?? 😅😅
Completely edible. Some candy is made from isomalt.
Dommage que les explications sont pas en français merci beaucoup pour la vidéo
