Also, how do I get at top nut attaching shock? Is the grommet you removed to get access to the nut? You say, "get it done"... is that to get a hole cut open to facilitate access to top nut?
If you go to the Yamaha XT660Z Tenere group page on Facebook, look for Shock Mod in the Files section. There's a pdf file of photos showing how to cut an access hole.
I drilled a 1" hole and glued a snap plug/grommet in there. As long as you seal it or glue it up properly it will be fine. Full instructions here - xt660.com (quick rear shock removal mod)
@s.a.e553 if you look up the Yamaha XT660Z Tenere page on Facebook. Look under 'Files' and 'Shock Mod PDF', you'll find a photo description of how to do the job.
Drill a hole on the filtered side of the airbox? You would have no idea it's sucking in dust until it's too late. The whole job can be done in 40 minutes without breaking a sweat so why take the risk? You must not have dust in England. I'd never suggest this mod in Australia.
+Nick Dole I've just completed over a 100,000 miles with no engine problems what so ever. 99,000 of those miles were in the Americas. Plenty of dust in Peru, Bolivia, Mexico, Argentina etc etc. It maybe a 40 minute job in a nice shiny modern workshop but they're a bit scarce in Latin America. I'll let you know when the hole becomes a problem.
Nick, are there any videos on how to remove the exhaust? Haven't found any. I'm afraid of damaging the seals between exhaust sections in the process. Thanks.
Not working on mine, the top bolt it's the other way around,so it's hitting the exhaust, I have to disassemble the all exhaust pipe...fucking hell.... Maybe was done by a rookie in the factory. . the idiot put the bolt on the wrong way
That is the correct way around. You either have to remove the exhaust to remove it, or cut the head off and drill a 1 inch hole in the air box to remove it, then plug the hole with a grommet
@@brianclarke9299 yep, I have made a 1 inch hole, and then I noticed that... It's a hell of a job to take the exhaust and the pipe all out... I guess I will cut the head and get a new bolt... Thanks ✌️
I like your style mate, no Bull and you get straight to the point. Very Helpful.
This video-manual will help reduce repair time,
thank you very much
You've encouraged me to mount it myself on my XT. Thank you.
You saved my day. Thanks.
Fantastic , this saved the day ..

can't get the bloody swingarm pin out!
Not bad!
The hole you've made in the air box, though, is it safe? Unfiltered air won't get through?

Hello, you have inspired me, could you please send me a short video or photo of that part, otherwise I will have to disassemble the entire back part.
