This IS the greatest live performance that i've ever seen from any of the extremely big guitar names. Vai, satch, malm, bucket, batio, or anyother big shred guitar that i've ever seen. It's simply mind blowing that they could put something together like that, with that much energy. When they started playing each others guitars it got a little weird sounding but overall, this is fantastic. What a sick song.
+dirliedirl - True that brother..!, was just thinking to myself-I hadn't heard lately how he's doing, been listening to his brilliant masterpieces since bout '85 I think, would have to say Edge Of Insanity is probably my go to album. Hope n pray he can beat the big ugly C for obvious reasons and for his family, but would also like to see him get back to his music. I've always been amazed at how humble he has always been, amazing person...Pulling for you Tony..!
steve vai is by far the best guitarist ever who played rock music and so many other genres.... and he is not only a good guitarist.... he is a very good musician.... listen to the songs for the love of god or lotus feet and you will see what i mean.... he wrote all the music for the most of his songs and that's why he is the best by far for me.... keep it up Steve!!!! God bless you guys...
This was in 2004. It was in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. My brother went to this and he said that the rest these guys' set was ridiculous!!! Look up the DVD on amazon with keywords: Eric Clapton Crossroads Festival. It will absolutely blow you away!
Jan van Bergen Honestly I still have no idea how he can do that. I mean there's a ton of tremolo picking, but it's so fast and over so many strings... IT'S KILLING ME TO THIS DAY HAHA
your so totally right about him.he has a passion for playing guitar.its not so direct its more having fun and doing what he loves.he was the one who inspired me to play guitar (well i havent started but i want to).thank u for putting this vid on the internet.
Thanks for pointing that out. Before, I skimmed through this video, trying to understand why sounded good....now I know, it was Tom Morello's guitar that made Via sound decent. Thanks for clarifying things.
The ultimate in music understanding and hard work, and most of all artistic achievement. Gotta live Vai. Btw the guy on the right Dave Weiner has an incredible teaching site.
I would like to point out to everyone how skillful of a transition MacAlpine makes at 6:36. With the furious unison lick going, he puts down his pick, searches for a patch on his keyboard, and keeps the unison lick going with legato. He then flies into a furious keyboard part with NO transition. Wow. Just wow.
I know, he can read and write music, almost no other guitarists can do that! He's the one who inspired me to learn music theory! And also he doesn't use drugs, that shows that he likes what he's doing :D Steve's awesome !
To me the best part of this video is at 4:03 the amount of skill that it takes to control that and not sound sloppy is astounding. but hey thats steve for you
Seing Steve tap 2 seconds into the song and I'm already impressed. Probably because this is the first time I've seen a video of him play live, but also probably because HE KICKS ASS!
@RyanB747 The Elusive Light and Sound, Vol.1 I've never listened to the original version to be honest so I'm not sure how different it may be. It is also on the G3 Live in Denver CD/DVDs. Which is where I originally heard the song. It is called "Get The Hell Out Of Here" on both of those.
Love the way Tony casually chews his gum. I'd personally be shitting myself up there having to play this track! Amazing rock! Tony actually has a better Q&A with Steve when they play this in Denver at G3. The end of the lick exchange in this show gets messy in parts and I think the boys know it.
Very talented guitar player everyone up there is, and dont forget Evo, been with steve for years and years that guitar has seen more concerts than you can imagine lol
steve is just owning the shit out of this song hes like its no problem playing this song look on his face and i think he knows hes one of the best guitarist out there
whoa man I need that fan in my life
This IS the greatest live performance that i've ever seen from any of the extremely big guitar names. Vai, satch, malm, bucket, batio, or anyother big shred guitar that i've ever seen.

Tony MacAlpine is fighting a tough battle right now. Man I'm hoping he pulls through. Such a great guy and great talent.

I like you. :)
Ibanez777 say more, don't know about that video please, sir
Nothing describes this video better than this comment :)
I'm not that much of a Steve Vai fan but this performance was simply amazing - must've been even better for the people to be there!

6:33 watch Tony Macalpine, tapping it out while reaching for his keyboard
such an underrated guitar player!
The best eva. The line up Mr Vai and the breakdown jam is so so amazing. 🤘✌️🏴☠️🇦🇺
I think the bass solo is more impressive than anything else.
No. go away
its not called the steve vai's bassist show for a reason dude.

Mr. Sheehan and Mr. Macalpine. Great line up....best in the industry
4:03 HOLY JUST WHAT
Spencer Dixon You have any Idea what they style of play is?
Jan van Bergen Honestly I still have no idea how he can do that. I mean there's a ton of tremolo picking, but it's so fast and over so many strings... IT'S KILLING ME TO THIS DAY HAHA
he is just strumming and whipping his hand. its not really picking but more of a chicka chicka crazy strum sorta meme
Yeah that's my fav part. Just the amount of groove in that one little riff is insane
You should check joscho stephan
this was the best stevie via line up by far!!!!!1
Guitar Level:

So many critics. How many guitarists does it take to screw in a light bulb? Answer....One while the rest say they could have done it better.
your so totally right about him.he has a passion for playing guitar.its not so direct its more having fun and doing what he loves.he was the one who inspired me to play guitar (well i havent started but i want to).thank u for putting this vid on the internet.
No no... this stuff doesn't happen in real life... o.O
Hail Steve Vai...
You are damn right
Joson Mathew hell yea.. it really doesnt .. no other than vai can make this happen.. 😢😢😢
that formation was the dream team!!, tony macalpine, billy sheehan, jeremy colson an the amazing vai, never saw that level of awesomeness on stage!!
rock show right smack in the middle of a tornado...
what really is happening here is they are becoming each other...amazing stuff....
Poor Steve Vai has to bring his own fans to the show.
Out of this whole concert this rocked the hardest. It gives me chills to hear it now.
And Tom Morello on keyboards and rythm guitar bahaha
aw man don't insult Tony McAlpine like that haha he's such a monster at like everything he does
Thanks for pointing that out. Before, I skimmed through this video, trying to understand why sounded good....now I know, it was Tom Morello's guitar that made Via sound decent. Thanks for clarifying things.
you do realize I was joking right?
Michael Burris Yep, I figured that out quickly but, you fortified my gut feeling that Via relies on better guitar players to prop him up.
Amazing performance!!
awesome perfomance!!!
steve rulz!!!
Simply stunning playing from everyone in this video.
I'd like to have even 1/5 of their dedication and ability!
Many thanks for posting this.

It's good to see Steve Vai sharing the stage with some other very talented guitarists.
Why do I have the sudden urge to get in a car and drive really fast somewhere else?
Ah Steve, never cease to amaze.
The ultimate in music understanding and hard work, and most of all artistic achievement. Gotta live Vai. Btw the guy on the right Dave Weiner has an incredible teaching site.
Awesome guitar and drummer ...yeaaaahhhhhh!
Once again, I'm blown away!
WOW damn he is good, I loved him in the 90s ... he is incredibly good. And the basser too!
I would like to point out to everyone how skillful of a transition MacAlpine makes at 6:36. With the furious unison lick going, he puts down his pick, searches for a patch on his keyboard, and keeps the unison lick going with legato. He then flies into a furious keyboard part with NO transition.
Wow. Just wow.
there is so much emotion through steve's guitar OMFG!!!
