Most people commenting didn't realize what happened in this video. Steve Vai's string snapped during his solo, and on a guitar with a Floyd Rose, when that happens, it completely detunes the guitar. So, take a close look at what occurred: he started his solo by hitting a note, thus figuring out the key the string was in, and then he played the entire solo with just that one string. If that's not the ultimate demonstration of mastery of his instrument for you, then I don't know what is. I'm a big fan of Timmons and Paul G, but what we witnessed in this video was an absolute lesson in musical mastery from Steve Vai.
Andy opened with a mind-boggling solo and his tone is unreal....Paul is his usual blistering alternate picking self with a little legato.....Steve was unbelievable even when he broke a string and he was still in tune!!......when I break a string on my Ibanez it goes totally out of whack....gotta buy a JEM I guess!
When I see Paul Gilbert I have a nice day - she smiles so often and is so nice person that I start to believe in ppl :) Additionally I love interviews and what's talking Steve Vai
This was first time (some 15-6 years ago) I've watched Andy Timmons, and as huge Paul Gilbert and Racer X fan I can say this guy is I N C R E D I B I L E.
Is it just me or does Andy seem like the excluded friend amongst the 3? Haha. Body language of Gilbert and Vai make it seem like Andy isn't even there. Which is kind of ironic given that most people seem to like Andy's playing best here.
Steve played with broken string. If I am not mistaken it's really difficult, cause Jem guitars have powerful whammy bar mechanism, but broken string spoils balance and the rest strings play out of tune. I also like when all these virtuosos play together without competition and treat themselves as a good friends. What a difference with Ritchie Blackmore and his arrogancy
Steve Vai is one of the best guitar players i've seen allright, his tremolo is absurd. But I never really quite liked his guitar tone with all that metallic, shiny sort of balance to it, just not for me.

2:22 no one talking about this, poor vai he broke his string just before his turn 😂👌
Andy Timmons is the most underrated.
I haven't read all of the comments but I do think the mighty Simon Phillips on drums deserves a mention!
Was that Simon Philips on the drums, him was a lefty right?
All the comments about who's better. Was this a shredd contest or a cool jam with Some great musicians?
definitely a shredd contest :D
Timmons n1
andy timmons the best solo!!
no paul is
definitely Andy Timmons
Legendary video, watched this many times in the early youtube days
I remember when i first saw this, it was amazing and still really fucking amaizng now.
I love Paul Gilbert but in this song Andy timmon's solo is fantastic
Timmons best solo, Gilbert speeding things up, and Vai breaks a string and still manages to keep it together. Unreal line up
I love it when PG starts singing.
Anyone else downloaded this video in the Emule days?
Good stuff, never gets old
I still got the file :)
Hahha dud best comment
@@JaraGuido once again, youtube not sending notification for reply... I had the file until my hard disk died this year
Paul Gilbert (STAR POWER)!!!

Timmons ripped it out there !
Guitar will always be the coolest instrument.

Well done to Steve for keeping that floating trem in tune after string snapped
He did the sensible thing and worked out the pitch of his highest string and stuck to it and if you run out of ideas, just go wild on the whammy! :D
Did he just do what he planned to do or improvised instead?
@@hermawanthan he improvised
I thought just guitar but who talks about drumming they all are Legends wow 👏 😳

Técnicamente el solo de Andy Timmons impecable

Andy Timmons simply stole that night (Ibanez 90th Anniversary)
LOL! The Hoshino All-Stars - cute.
Caraca...esses tres juntos daria um g3 power...Timmons, P.Gilbert e Vai!!
Respect for Andy, beautiful solo, but Paul's solo and guitar sound rules in this song, by my oppinion
The semi-god paul gilbert is so gooooooooddd!!! it's a shame he did not do a solo
All hall of famers. Much respect to be sure. But give me Andy's soulful playing over the busy bee buzzy stuff.
Oh my god
Who sings better, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai or Yngwie?
paulo gilgerto
Vai
what signature series guitar from paul gilbert? does anyone know?
Where can u get my hands on the blue PGM Ibanez

Ibanez and Tama drums are the coolest! At the beginning
The only escape route for Steve was breaking a string and even pretend play something XD
Andy Timmons best solo!!!!!!!!
andy e gilbert apagou o steve vai kkkkk roubaram a cena!

Andy timmons es dios
The drummer is Simon Phillips.
vai play the solo without one string...wow!

2:23 the best one string solo ever!
E string break lol
The best solo is Andy Timmons', even though I thought it was gonna be from one of the other guys.
Andy is the BEST
Paul Gilbert is the best of the 3, but the other 2 are really good.
TheGuitarGod18 there is no better
NelGilbert yes there is no better,

You can actually see Steve's broken string here.

Hahaha, at 4:42 Paul pulled Steve's whammy bar :D
Mizinha quebrada: a
Here on 4feb 2020
buen tema
2:25 The most orgasmic legato ever played...
Why did Steve have to replace his guitar?
Keep holding whammy bar to maintain string's tension.
respect to Vai on his solo - very understated kwnowing he could rip the other 2 apart!
How can this Japanese company gets so many guitar legends to sponsor their products?
simply because their guitars are great
Endorse their products??
Because Ibanez are the coolest all day and all night... Didn't you listen to the song?
rub800 😂
Steve Vai is the best, broke his string, but still nailed it!
ALL the notes were played that night.
@leadspirit145 Una banda llamada The Kinks
@detroidxl He said "i believe that laney amps last forever" instead of "you and me last forever" that's the one i noticed! hahah
