A test of the new MARS HYDRO 4x2 grow tents and comparison against grow tents by Secret Jardin, AC Infinity, Vivosun & Gorilla
I tested each tent with a grow light in them to assess the quality of the reflectance material quality and the MARS HYDRO is just ahead of the others.
Regarding other factors I found the quality of all the tents to be good but the premium price for the Gorilla and AC Infinity tents is not reflected (excuse the pun) in their features and specifications. The MARSH HYDRO is very competitive and a good quality grow tent for the price.

Would like to see Spider Farmer included in this test.
Appreciate all your testing on these products. Ive made purchases based on your findings and suggestions. Much appreciated.
I'll write it again, this channel and the reviews are pure gold, since as buyers we deserve all the options to make our investment in money efficient. Thank @migro 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏

Would’ve been nice if the spider farmer tent was there too next to the mars hydro one, after all they are direct competitors aren’t they?
I literally just watched this same guy compare Vivosun, AC Infinity, and Gorilla tents. In that video he claimed AC Infinity had a -13% reflectivity as opposed to the -6% here. You can definitely tell these are sponsored or skewed results in some way. The last video he claimed Vivosun won. Here it looks like Mars won. I've had both, and currently have a Mars I've been using for the last few years. I can tell you from experience that the Mars is better than the Vivosun, but not by much in terms of quality. Mine is nearly wore completely out, so I'm probably going to upgrade to an AC Infinity tent next. Regardless of what this guy says, AC Infinity is gunning hard for Gorilla, and there's no doubt Gorilla has the most "industrial" build quality. The problem with Gorilla is price and lack of innovation. In short; those other tents are great in a pinch, but AC and Gorilla are leading the way.
Mars Hydro is a terrible company. Shoddily built products and even worse customer service (or lack thereof). I paid for a tent they said was IN STOCK and they never shipped it to me. Now they're not replying to my emails.
@@PeterDixon734 If they never sent it to you how can you claim it was bad build quality?
@@nealhamilton3881 Because I have their grow light. LED lights aren't supposed to make sounds after being turned off.
Further, they're not supposed to shock you when they're turned on. Yet, they do, and there's even a sticker attached to the thing saying DO NOT TOUCH WHEN LIGHT IS ON
I was looking for a video to compare 2 tents and I got the best video possible thank you
Thanks for the great comparison. Looks like Mars Hydro and Vivosun have the better tents by comparison on price and quality. I was looking into a new 3x3 and I was going to go with AC Infinity but this may have changed my mind. Videos like this are great because I think it's not easy to make a choice solely from manufacturers claims and marketing.
If you don’t mind me asking what type of tent you end up buying bro
@@user-vi8ww6oy9s I ended up getting the Vivosun 3x3x73 and a Vivosun 2x2x48. I will be using the 2x2 to dry harvests.Very happy with both tents.
I’ve been considering to upgrade or update my grow set up. I really wanted to get a gorilla grow tent, but after watching this video might change my mind. might just get the vivosun.
I have only used a Secrete Jardin tent so can't speak for any other brand, but as far as I know it's the only one that is actually light proof since they have light traps for the intake.
And Shane is right when he say that 2 ports is not enough but you can just buy as many as you need and install them where ever you want.
The reason the other brand comes with so many ports and intakes is only to accommodate every growers scenario.
Exactly using that shown SJ DS120 tent and really like the lack of vents and that you have to DIY a little bit. Makes it way easier to setup and to avoid unwanted smells imo because the tent itself only pulls in through your designated vent and doesn't odor leak through a square one with velcro. Also I run 2 of theirs in a "daisy chain" - the flower tent pulls air out of a smaller tent with cuts which works like a dream because you can put the vents wherever you please and have very short routes for the air flow. Only problem is that the stitching and overall fabric quality is subpar, gotta admit that.
It turns out that Mars-Hydro has the lowest price and the best light reflection. Amazing tents!
This is just Project farm for gardeners. Purchased the Aray 4 and will be continuing business with you for the transparency and awesome videos.
Absolutely, hands down, best channel for grow information. Thank you!
I have a 4x4 mars hydro. Recently purchased a new one because of the zipper. The old version had 3 doors, 1 full and 2 half's, on each side. The new tent only has one. The zipper has been inproved but Im not so big on the one door. I'm worried about watering later and using a net. I'm already having problems getting to the back of the tent.
Good morning from the US! I appreciate this. I did research a few years ago and ended up with Mars Hydro. I do regret the thickness lacking BUT they've held up just fine over the last 3 years! Appreciate the details! You sir are a 👑!
Thanks for the feedback👍
Zips are good on the MarsHydro too. Been using their tents and lights for years.
i feel like were sort of a cult.
@@megaflux7144Haha. Awesome brand for the home grower. The 'Ronseal' of Indoor growing.
Super appreciate you doing all these tests! Maybe one day make the best tent on the market now that you know this info? the MIGRO tent would be siiiiick. Also will you update your lights with lm301 Evo diodes? thanks!
No need for Evos LM281B very good efficiency and much better value
I got 2 5x5 mars hydro tents. The stitching and zippers are good quality. I do wish the tent fabric folded up better when collapsed but otherwise the build quality is very good at a great price.
Thanks for the comparaison Shane.
The gorilla grow seems to be 6ft7" and not 6.11 (impossible that the one in your video is only 1m86, only 6cm more than the others, looks like 2m04 and with additional extension that I have I use a stool to reach for the top at 2m34, 54cm higher than the others in your demo).
Bought it a few years ago around 150€ during black friday.
No its 6Ft11", confirmed on their website: www.gorillagrowtent.com/products/2x4-grow-tent
@MIGROLIGHT sorry for the inaccuracy, I have the lite version which is 6ft7 to 7ft7. Spiderfarmer has a nice one too that is 70x140x200cm allowing more room for dehumidifier and fans.
Thanx again Shane, great information for all grower's 'round the world.
What happened to the spider farmer tent? Could you please show results with the spider tent too. Thx... and great videos.
Google is really ticking me off with the censoring for no reason.
I will chip in on paying someone to just run the zippers until they fail. That's the biggest difference for me over the years. The really cheap ones the zippers fail first few times you use them. Light leaks through the zipper stitching is super common too.
I got my third slap and a 48-hour timeout for linking the first test Shane did in a comment on a different channel. YT called it misinformation. The first two slaps were for linking peer-reviewed articles from accredited universities. Guess they want thinking people to move to Rumble!
Im glad I went for the Mars Hydro 2 x 4 🎉🎉
Consider that gorilla has a lite line that is comparable in price with these. I'm a gorilla guy, an extra foot in height and you can get another foot extension kit. I'm in!
With 7'7" in total height I don't run into my light.
Absolutely and the doors open completely and walls zip off giving 360 degree access and the added height extension comes in clutch with dialing in heat and humidity.
Gorilla is 50% right now
Well, I don't feel that bad now 😂 There are multiple options however I don't want to pay for trash. My first was a Nova off Amazon. (Priced similar to the Mars Hydro tent.) It was a great tent but only 5 ft and I'm 5'8" so yea. I wanted a 60" tent so I opted for the 2 in 1 Vivosun. It's a great tent but I don't plan on posting the Nova for sale. Oh yeah, I'm glad I dodged a bullet with Gorilla 😬
By far the best brand i have seen or used is Homebox, the only negative is the material is so thick and heavy its a workout just to erect or fold
Just bought some Migro arrays and ac infinity tents. They might not be the absolute best products but the customer service and warranties are top notch. If you need help they got you.
Gorilla Grow tent is the better design hands down.
Right now they got the Black Friday sale on 50% off
You also have to look at welds and powder coating .
Absolutely had Vivosom crush a grow and zippers tear on all of them besides Gorilla
260 for a 5x5
132 for a 4x4
And 108 for a 2x4
The addd height extension and walls being able to be zipped completely off come in clutch with 360 degree access and dialing in heat and humidity.,
Had my Gorilla tent 5 years and it’s the only tent that’s lasted and not had any issues with .
well according to this the groillas are pointless waste of money lol and ive had my vivosun for years and works great stull and its holding up a a very heavy 6 in canfan carbon filter
@@seanwood5443 lmfao. He’s leaving out quite a few details. He’s going for budget . If you’re going for the best it’s not even a competition.
But when you’re Vivosun weld rusts and zippers fall apart remember you went cheap instead of practical
According to Lord Migro light reflectivity and price is the only important metrics /s
@@Green_Genius yea but we growers know better than that .,
i have a vivosun 4x4x6 tent and love it
always had the feeling the Mars Hydro is a good tent, but never had comparison...def. good bang for book...XD just dont go for the old TS1000/2000 anymore.
10 out of 10 for my 2 mars tents. Wouldn't touch another company why all the mars hydro equipment is priced so well
Thank you for keeping it real this video, that last video had me run out and waste my money on a Vivosun tent.
hopefully you got the new Vivosun tent?
@@MIGROLIGHT Nope, unfortunately I'm stuck with the used one according to them. Think I'll just go ahead and give Ac infinity a try.
Thanks so much for the review! I was thinking about getting a secret jardin but probably gonna give it a miss now
I like my Mars Hydro tents, I have had no issues at all with them
I have a mars hydro tent..very good for the price. With lots of vents and ports.i also had a green finger tent which was good and cheaper still..lol
I'll take gorilla all day with those height extensions
Take mine, it’s garbage that started falling apart the first year I owned it. Please
i’ve had mine for over 4 years no problems
Thank you so much for this excellent science! buying a tent soon, so this really helps!
yup mars hydro is killing it with their tents glad to know empirically I picked right, I know what I'm getting for Christmas
Keep up the great work bro 😎🤙 much love from Pennsylvania 🥳🇺🇲
Do you think i can use AC infinity components in a mars hydro tent, shipping cost to germany is so high for the ac infinity that its alomst 400/tent with shipping and im hoping to skipp the shipping by going with a tent that is available in germany
It would be good to test out the white material compared to the silver mylar . As they reflect more light apparently. Appreciate all the testing you do it's useful info.
i think he tested them a few years ago
@@graemebuchan1919 he 100% did, and i think the results were that the diamond stuff was best but only marginally better than the reflective mylar film you can get for dirt cheap (he tested like 8 different materials too).
Generally speaking, white will reflect 90% while these mylar-type silver coatings reflect 98%+ ... what I would like to know however is what reflects more HEAT, as I have found the white dissipates/diffuses the heat better while mylar creates little "hot spots". I would like to see that tested however, rather than go by my anecdotal evidence.
@@ronin7261 thats a REALLY good point but.. wouldnt you think it has more to do with material in general than the reflective coating? im not sure how you would apply the coating to a piece of plywood or some other static solid surface to test it (since you need them to all have the same exact material for the experiment to prove much of anything), and that seems an easier route than applying all reflective materials to a fabric like tents are made of. the mylar hot spots are usually where light burns through the leaves by the way, not so much an actual warm area within the grow space. same reason we arent supposed to use actual mirrors on the walls. i digress though, if youre counting on reflected light to increase yields in the first place youre barking up the wrong tree.
Thats the point of the diamond pattern. To reduce hotspotting.
After going through several cheaper tents Gorilla hasn’t failed me yet. It maybe more expensive but you only have to buy it once.
Spot on.
It may not be the cheapest, but i love my 5x5 Gorilla tent. Just a couple of reasons: the extra height for one. Got the filter + ac infinity inline fan inside the tent, a powerfull light and big plants, and still never run out of space. Some complain about too many zippers, but the way it opens up, is the thing i love the most. Backside against a wall, and the 3 remaining tentsides open up complitely. Not talkin about doors, windows or vents, i mean COMPLITELY OPEN. (even the backside of the tent has 1 big D-shaped door in it, the only 1 in the whole tent, if someone needs the ultimate accessability to their grow space.) Now this is priceless for my style of growing. No dead space, filled with plants/canopy, and no need to lift plants outside to get to them. And after some years, the zippers still work as they were new.
Never regretted buying it, would buy it again.
@@ganjah-far-i7124Spot on mate. I have one too, and you're right. The ability to completely open the tent and change fans around, prune plants, etc without an absolute headache is worth the extra cost alone. Quality kit.
Only one missing was a spider farmer model
Is it possible, that some of the ridges on the diamond pattern of the Gorilla diffuses some of the light vertically or slightly upwards? That would explain the lower numbers, because that light would go unmeasured? That would also mean that the Gorilla would be an even clearer winner (if money isn't the main variable)! EDIT: 4:08 you can see the pattern there! That WOULD make some light reflect upwards for 100% certain!
Great video as always Shane!
I have two Mars 4x2s. Really great tents.
Should've tested HomeBox as well Shane... brutal tents
best on the market
Is there a US seller of these that you know of? I was looking at them. I think Active Grow is selling a very similar one too.
Good stuff as always, but I’ll tell you I think these dynamics change with the given model within manufacture. Recently bought another vivo and it was way flimsier then the previous bought only 6 months prior 🤷🏻♂️keep up the testing and can’t wait till you get around to nutes for hydro, lots to explore there, but keep it to hydro with coco as that is probably the most popular and if not still is worth exploring , thanks migro 👍🏻
Yes, the older Vivosuns were flimsy and easy to tear. This is their newer model. Older vs newer compared here: th-cam.com/video/WUq0HpV0vDI/w-d-xo.html
So out of all your tests the Vivosun tents are the thickest? Even over AC Infinity? If so they must have just changed their tents and made them thicker because I own BOTH and the AC Infinity tent is wayyy thicker than the Vivosun tent. TO me that's the most important part along with the zipper and poles. When looking for a new tent I'm looking for the most thick with the heaviest duty poles and zippers. I want something that is gonna last since you don't change tents often and it is a pain to do so. Thanks for these reviews though! I've been waiting for someone to compare the thickness of the different brands.
Hi, yes the old Vivosun fabric was very thin, see last tent test. This one is better though
My only wish is that Mara Hydro sold a 36” x 24” x 53” tent as I have one of their other ones which is an odd size (I rarely see it being offered anywhere.) and I really like it. I have zinnias, carrots, tomatoes as well as a few other plants I’m growing in it and I would love to get another but I only have a space for 3 x 2 feet unfortunately but I am trying to see how I can accommodate a 4 x 2 but I want something shorter. That’s the crappy part that all the brands sell the same sizes unfortunately.
Thanks for the review on the tents.
Great impressive results Shane! I would *really* love to see a a weight support test, how much weight could be hung from ceiling until tent collapse. Thanks for sharing, have a great week end.
What about the new gorilla grow tents they just came out it’s about 150 bucks for the 2 x 4? Anyway, to do an update video with that tent in it?
What about the led white tents or is that just marketing?
Can anyone please explain how to interpret the uniformity results?..which has the best?
My secret jardin is easy to use with the fan mounts but its really low quality fabric, they have small light leaks through the fabric even brand new and the 16mm stems and connectors are really flimsy.
Love secret jardin. For 3 plus years and the only problem its the poles need to be coated(anti rust )
Are the mars the same as spider farmers?
Very interesting test. I am actually in the market for another 2X4. Currently I have an older AC Infinity 2X4 that I have used for drying, but it is shorter than I would prefer, so had been considering the Gorilla for the extra height. The GGT 2X4 is never on sale and as you note is a considerable amount more expensive. I do wonder if the lower reflectivity of the GGT is due to the additional height and light reflecting back up is weaker when it makes its way to the sensor.
If you don’t mind and you’re on a budget, you can get the gorilla grow Shorty although it says 4’11” it comes with I believe additional (extension) foot, so it’s pretty much 6 foot tent and if you want to go higher, you just buy an additional extension. The only thing that I saw that was different between the standard and the Shorty was the door is low so if you don’t mind bending down to go in the door your gravy
Hey brother, they’re having a black Friday 50% off day. Might want to check it out get you a deal. It was in my email. Thought I would share it with you.
The reflectivity would net change if the tent is taller
Great information as usual 👍
I'd like to see the Newest Grey Vivosun tent tedted😊
I wonder where the bud box pro would have finished in this comparison 🤔
WTF the prices of the mars hydro and the ac infinity one are almost double on the German market 😮
I have multiple tents from multiple makers and this late in the game basically all tents are created equal you just have to look if they have enough ports to put in venting or how the tent doors open up for your space that you're in but my first text was a cheap one and that's my go to Tent now out of my five other ones so if you had a choice go for the cheaper one because then you can take that money that you're going to save on that gorilla tent and put it towards a light the light is what you don't want to cheap out on 100.00 more towards the light makes a world of a difference but spending an extra $100 on a grow tent you really don't see a difference maybe things are a little bit thicker but longevity wise they last the same
Nice video information....I am all about that saving on the buck...
Marshydro here I come....
Do a light leak test!! Please
Thank you for reviewing these tents
ALWAYS DELIVERS! 👏 thanks Shane
I’ve had a mars tent for five years now and the only problem I’ve found was this last year the main zipper slips on a section but it’s been easy to work around.
Good day Shane ! Long time no talk, been Mia for a spell just existing and taking the path of least resistance these days 😂 I see a missing variable here - what about when exhaust fans kick on and create a negative draw and suck in the tent walls changing the reflective angles as the walls breathe 🤔 haha I’m just kidding if I ever had to worry about that I’d just breathe into a paper bag until the thought passed . I like my Vivos when I’m cutting holes in them and tinkering due to their cost. But as a stand alone tent that I appreciate as much as good furniture I like my ac infinity- to be fair the others I haven’t used but the two companies I do I haven’t had any complaints after about 25 different size combination purchases. How all is well 👍 almost ready to buy some of your arrays - just need to build my wood enclosure first 😩 the older I get the faster my brains wants things done and the slower my body wants to move - the struggle is real. ✌️ be well !
WOW, what a price gap. $89 vs $289. does the thicker poles and canvas make it last 3x as long?
Thicker canvas will help. Some of the thinner tent fabric rips very easy, sometimes as you are putting the tent up
Should have the "Homebox" there too! German producer! Its white inside and in my opinion the best tents you can buy!
I have an secret jardin DS90 and can really vouch for it.
Super happy with my DS90. And now with pug and play extractor and filter life is good...
Ive used mars, vivosun & ac infinty. Honestly whichever is the cheapest of them 3 at the time is one i wud choose. Not enough difference to justify price difference
same with noname brands honestly (i bet they are made in the same factory during off hours), plants dont give the slightest fuck what logo is on their grow space.
What white paint do you recommend for better light reflection? Matte or glossy? I want to paint the walls in the corner of my room without a growtent.
I'd probably loose as I made my own. But I like it. Did my own rdwc too, so both are customized for eachother
nah, youre the hero dude. you get more $ to spend on things that matter when you just grab some 2x4s and insulation or even that white luan (whatever its called) 4x8 sheeting and get creative. same with dwc, only twats spend 700$ on buckets and a pump. edit: and metal tape! cant forget the silver tape to deal with any light leaks (unless you gasket or seal the edges).
@@megaflux7144for some the convenience is worth the premium ($).
I do think there is value in being able to set up a RDWC (etc) custom for yourself tho. It's valuable knowledge, even outside of growing.
I do like the MarsHydro 2x4, mine works very well and I also have another MarsHydro 39"x39" tent that is just over a three foot square. Good tents with decent height and features.
#everyone this guy tests alot of lights , tents, etc, and he is 💯 legit with the test info.
Wish you could test db levels with fans running. Awesome videos!
I dont think there would be any difference...
i always recommend spider farmer tents but HLG lights :)
HLG is pricey for almost no value compared to most competitors
I have 3 tents. An AC infinity 4x4 a Vivosun 3x3 and a no name 5x2.5. The no name has a horrible zipper and doesnt even completely close. The vivosun is fully functioning but the zipper does not feel as solid as the AC infinity one.
Nice I'm getting a little 2.3x2.3 mars hydro for veg tent
You have any codes for the tents? You deserve some money back for all the work you do.... And I need a tent
They all look pretty clumsy and thin compared to HomeBox or GrowBox (EU production). I´d be really interested in a comparison of those
nice to see you done secert jardin and mars ,great job
100K Congrats :)
Thank you so much 😀
Great job breaking it down, much thx🙏🤙🍻💨
Glad it was helpful!
My spider farmer fell apart, my ac infinity had major light leaks, i like mars hydro the best
I have an ACI tent. I just noticed the reflective coating on the floor tray is wearing off. I wish I'd seen this video before I bought my tent.
Which one u recommend for smell proof I’m growing some smelly potatoes yes potatoes
a extractor and carbon filter in any tent gets rid of smells
all tent manufacturers should ditch the vents and go with the secret jardin system.. just make ports wherever u want them.. and with the filter they are lightproof/dustproof aswell.. makes for a cleaner tent. (just need to add a couple inlets down 1 is not enough).
secret jardin is best for drying thanks to only 2 holes
Really appreciate your videos 👍
hello Shane, will there ever come a video with the chinese QB288 clones? LM281b+ and LM301?...they are one of the most used components for DIY enthusiasts and sadly theres not a single reputable test result.
Why is reflectivity the most highlighted metric? What does a 6% drop equate to in real growing terms? These are getting worse and worse.
yes 6% less light reflected is 6% less yield
@@MIGROLIGHT lol what? So your plant is growing off 100% reflected light? This is so incorrect I cant even fathom how any takes your advice on anything.
@@MIGROLIGHT The more I read this, the dumber it gets. According to this "logic" if I dont use a tent, my reflectivity is 0. Is my yield now 0 too?
I’d like to see a comparison of gorilla and silver back from htg they both have the extensions for height
Thank you for the video. Very informative!
Glad you enjoyed it!
i love my mars hydro 4x4. cant wait to get some plants in her soon! letsgo ohio!!
whats a good blackfriday deal to look for? looking for a starter kit. I was leaning to a infinity kit the 3x3 I like the controller But it seams they have failed a lot of test. But the more automation/ Wifi controls I think the better off ill be?
I like vivosun controller better
Vivosun is my favorite
Any chance of getting a Bud Box or Jungle Room tent included?
Thanks you as always 🙏
My Spider Farmer 2×4 is good. Use wax lip balm on zippers.
You would think ac infinity would do some r and d but no they release underpowered lights and tents that make them appear even dimmer 🤦♂️. I use mars tents , chilled lights and only Ac infinity for ventilation the rest of their products are overpriced junk I have been threw at least 18 of their pos clip on fans already 🤦♂️ can’t even get a full run in without them clicking and popping
good marketing goes a long way..
Are there not 2000 weight tents not just those 15/1600 weight tents?
I keep seeing ads about AC Infinity. Are they really any good?🤔
I think it's more hype than substance. They seem to invest more in ads than in their actual products.
@@Enochhh6607 Totally agree. With the money they spend on marketing they could actually make some decent products instead of having to buy their reputation by paying people to shill for them.
