Grow tent comparison Vivosun AC Infinity Gorilla

  • I test 3 of the biggest brand grow tents on the market from ‪@VIVOSUN‬ ‪@acinfinity‬ @GrowStrongIndustries Gorilla grow tents.
Blog with all the grow tent test results here: migrolight.com/blogs/grow-lig...
I have not put much thought into grow tents before so it was more interesting than I thought it would be!
I tested each tent with a grow light in them to assess the quality of the reflectance material quality and was very surprised to see the Vivosun tents perform much better than the Gorilla and AC Infinity grow tent in particular.
Vivosun say their reflectance material used a thicker aluminium coating with better manufacturing processes to deliver higher reflectance values.
Regarding other factors I found the quality of all the tents to be good but the premium price for the Gorilla and AC Infinity tents is not reflected (excuse the pun) in their features and specifications.

My 4x4 is in a restricted space so I can only access two sides - I was having a lot of trouble pruning and was breaking parts of the plants trying to reach over them - SO I came up with a turntable - made from a single 8x4 sheet of ply cut in half - had to trim the bottom a little to fit within the frame - likewise the top half and had to cut it a little smaller and trim off the corners so it would turn within the 4ft width without catching the mylar - I have a Lazy Suzan bearing in the centre between the two sheets and 16 low profile castors spread under the top half to take the weight - I can stand on it if I have to and it takes my 11 stone NB - I grow 4 plants in it and for me it works a treat...!

Being a grower, that’s starting to get up there an age I do like the gorilla because I can add attachments that’ll give me more headroom so that I can insert a small table to lift the plants off the ground. This way I’m not on my knees or bent down. So for me, it’s gorilla 🦍

Hey Migro, try the hang test, the flood pool test, and a light leak test for real world results. Pole thickness and diameter is only a part of the story. Cheap welding and poor design will cause a tent to collapse under minimal weight. Our Gorilla tents get knocked for the price, but it simply costs more to build products that are taller and tougher.

      100%
Not to mention that Gorilla tents walls zips completely down. That’s critically important for older , disabled people who can’t crawl under a scrog or reach over the canopy to tend to plants and water. That’s a huge feature that other tents just don’t offer. It’s nice to have total access to the entire space unobstructed.
Then there is the height adjustment.
Everyone knows heat rises , having that extra foot or even 2 will help mitigate heat especially when growing in the summer.

As the saying goes: "You get what you pay for". And given the fact I doubt most indoor growers are "Not" going to be satisfied with only 2-3 grow cycles, long term reliability (performance) and ruggedness are very important indeed. I can see the reflective inner wall material to be of the greatest concern once the grow light is reflecting off of them many weeks, months etc. and not having them crumble then fall off of the walls to the floor. Now what do you do when it happens half way through a grow cycle and jeopardizes your current crop. Oh no! I'm already leaning toward the Gorilla brand. But further information is needed. And I hope the few complainers about customer service are just whiners (and idiots) anyway lacking the necessary social skills to hold an intelligent "adult" conversation. And finding people who value and see the importance to work and not sit on their butt doing nothing all day. take care.

Can you please use them for a year and test for light leakage again. I found that vivosun had massive light leaks after a year. The zipper was also starting to fail. I run negative pressure to keep the smells in. The extra bars you can get to help the tent, not crush or get taller, are quite useful.

Avoid budbox at all costs. Rubbish quality material and really thin/weak the zips leak light all along and the meeting points leave massive holes for bugs, they tried to cover with a useless flap. Mine melted near a 60w external standard house bulb. Customer service was shocking. They claim as they've been making tents for 10 years they know best and anyone else's opinion is wrong. I came across a tent that has big vents everywhere, but no screening over the squares! One duct vent of 4"(a 3x3 tent), and lighter zippers than I've seen on any piece of clothing!
I believe it was from Highgrove..?! Stick to the known brands! Avoid the horror story below.
Of course the Amazon ad showed pics of a regular, cheap, grow tent. Then there was a coupon square you could check, "Buy one get one free", which got me to purchase it.
After an hour of trying to figure out WTF, I called Amazon and told em to come get this POS. Worst thing was I needed that 3x3 space Now! I finagled the thing together with lots of duct tape, and made it temporarily usable.
When returning them, UPS expected 2 boxes, with 2 labels? (They came in one huge box!). I told UPS it was BOGO, and they said I could keep the "bad one". They put one label on it, gave me the other. So I only got half my money back..?! After a few days of a few hours on the phone, I finally received the other half back.
Stick to the popular tents. Always check for reviews. If no reviews, I'd avoid the tent!👍💯✌️

Light leak is my #1 concern and for me if theres no external zipper flap its a failed design.

Being in a dark basement this isn't an issue. The overall build seems really good. Better than my other two tents. Overall I'm very happy with its performance. My 2x4' vivosun tent is my worst tent. The mylar material is separating in the floor after just 3 seedling runs. I'm assuming the walls are next. The six inch vent holes are just that. Exactly six inches and very hard to feed a vent into. dear Shane, i also experienced some mysterious light losses when measuring in my grow tent. The answer were the airintake-meshes at the sides. even when you close them from the outside, the filter mesh inside kills almost all reflection. You have to cover the intakes with reflective material from the inside, or you have to measure not on the floor, but in 30-40cm height. its more realistic anyway, because the pots are 25-30 cm high usually. It made about 15% difference in my case.

I've noticed on my new AC Infinity 5x5 that the zippers on the side windows/doors do NOT have a flap and I notices there is a 1" wide spot were the zipper doesn't want to connect and there is quite a bit of light that comes through which is a huge bummer on a brand new tent. And I've noticed a light leak where the two zippers meet up, but it's small so I park the zippers where the gap in my zipper is so it keeps the leak small. Guess I'll just have to tape over it every time I have to open the side.
My Gorilla 5x5 shorty has a few very tiny pinholes, but the zippers are well covered and I haven't noticed any light leaking from them at all.
That being said, I think flaps on all zippers is a must.

    • @JamesS.254
      @JamesS.254 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

One other thing I've noticed between the two tent's I have is the placement of the larger ventilation outlets. The Gorilla tent has the opening's closer to the rear, as to where the AC Infinity has them placed right in the middle. I personally like having them all the way to the back like in the Gorilla tent for running my fan and filter from the inside as it keeps it out and away from the light. It's a little annoying that the AC infinity tent is either going to force me to lose almost a foot of overhead space if I run internal, or I will most likely have to run the ventilation external to get the maximum headspace.
The reason I went with the AC Infinity tent was because it just fits within my ceiling in my basement so I get the max height. The Gorilla shorty with it's 9" extensions leaves almost a foot of headroom to be had, but If I order the 2 foot extension kit then its about 3" too tall, which is a bummer unless I cut the pipes and let it sag a bit. I've contacted Gorilla to see if I could buy an additional 9" extension, but they don't offer it for sale which Sucks.

Gorilla is worth every penny. Had mine for years and one of the best investments I made for my grow after having a Vivosun weld snsp and Mars zippers fail .
A grow tent like a light isvt something one should cheap out on. Coming from experience it’s worth it to have the added protections like better zippers, superior welds, powder coating, thicker canvas, access to the plavts themselves is something that should be mentioned as well and the additional height adjustments come in clutch to dial in environmental conditions as heat rises.
But yea Gorilla tents are worth every penny and that’s coming from someone on disability who don’t have much to begin with . All the more reason to buy once and not be worried my garden is gonna get smashed by equipment falling when welds fail.

Where did you get this new vivo sun tent? The only ones on their site have the square windows and 600d canvas. I have the vivo and gorilla, and I just bought my vivo(I couldn't find your model anywhere). The version I have is thinner than the gorilla but still thick enough. I like it more than my gorilla because it has no lignt leaks. Gorilla has high-grade materials, but their design isn't well thought out. Why do the flaps only cover the front of the tent zippers and not all the way around? The fact that they never upgraded their design just shows how complacent gorilla has become. Choose the vivo but I wish I was able to get the model you have😂

Another reason the Ac infinity tent had a lower reading is because of the 3rd vent on the backside of the tent. It causes a skewed reading with a par meter as it causes the light to not reflect in that particular area and looking at the par maps you made it clearly shows this and believe that's what caused the slightly lower readings. I'm not gonna claim to have the sophisticated equipment you have such as the macro lens etc but from my own experience this is the cause of its light loss shown. Also the light which hits canopy level its what's most important I would assume? not the light which hits all the way on the floor?

Also I have read somewhere that it's not great to have any light reflecting up off the floor hitting the underside of the leaves anyway? Im pretty sure that in nature the ground is not reflective. So I would be interested to see this test re-run up above the vents around the average canopy level to get more accurate results.

Interesting to see the PAR results for the AC Infinity. I have a Vivosun 4x2 I bought years ago and while it's decent the AC Infinity's build quality is a lot better and worth the cost difference, which wasn't too much when I was shopping for an extra 2x2 tent for my 3d printer. I don't know if the AC Infinity premium is worth it for every product, I'm happy with their exhaust fan, performance and electronics are solid. I know they have cheaper options which probably aren't worth the money. Seeing the PAR performance is making me rethink my opinion here. if the production model of the new Vivosun is as good as the pre-prod version then I wouldn't have any issue recommending a Vivosun.

I hope this video starts a larger conversation about the (lack of) quality in grow tents. They all leak light through the zippers or pinholes made during manufacturing. Haven't been happy with my tents at all.
Gorilla- too many zippers, frayed fabric, can't move around due to height, too expensive.
AC infinity- quality has improved in some areas, declined in others- zipper broke on my 5x5, was sent a warranty replacement, velcro on warranty replacement won't hold the door open, 2x4 that I'm barely in looks like the zipper is about to fail just like the 5x5 did, price increases.

It really depends on what you’re needs are. 5x5 tent or bigger I’ll go with the gorilla especially if you have the height to extend higher. Charcoal filters and line blowers/lights/dehumidifier can add up in weight. But if you’re grow is 2 x 4 or smaller with just a light maybe a small blower and fan and growing peppers or something like that on the floor then the cheaper tent will do just fine

I've used Vivosun and Mars Hydro tents for years, but they are pretty much worn out. I've been thinking about going with AC Infinity, because they are comparable to Gorilla in terms of build quality. They are also innovative, which Gorilla is not, and less expensive. The reflectivity test could be due to the extra vent or ports. Who knows? I don't really see 13% being a deal breaker for what I'd be getting, if that test is even valid. I already use AC Infinity exhaust and circulation fans with their controller 69, and I find them to be quite awesome to be honest. Personally, I think AC is gunning hard for Gorillas title of best grow tent.

Tent Density was the best feature for Gorilla Tents, at 1680D, while others were 600D.
Eventually, Mars Hydro became 1680D(and apparently Spider Farmer too). Vivosun were always 600D. Then AC Infinity came out with 2200D.
Vivosun has upped their game, finally, but not any on Amazon yet. They were still 600D, as of last night (but I did see something about "New Model 2200.."), so maybe the new Vivosun has a 2200D density..?!
I'm surprised Shane didn't mention the "D" of any tents, especially Vivosun, as I believe that's why they sent it to Shane..?! It's been the lightest material, at 600D, and I think they're trying to let people know about the "New 2200D" density.
Maybe Vivosun focused their energy on the reflectivity of the new tents coming out, over the higher "D" density, when speaking with Shane.
Considering this is a Grow light channel and Shane has always tested canopy penetration (I believe the first one to do these tests..?!), it makes sense they'd focus on this feature.👍💯✌️
