Voice of the Spirit

  • In a world full of noise and many voices, President James E. Faust invites us to listen to and follow the voice of the Spirit, which is calm and quiet and leads to eternal life.
How are you possibly going to select what voices you will listen to and believe? You will not be able to travel through life on borrowed light. The voice you must learn to heed is the voice of the Spirit. The Spirit's voice is ever-present but it is calm. The adversary tries to smother His voice with a multitude of loud, persistent, appealing voices. Murmuring voices that conjure up perceived injustices, pointing voices of that abhor challenge and work, seductive voices offering sensual enticements, flattering voices that puff us up with pride, commercial voices that tempt us to spend money for that which is of no worth and our labor for that which cannot satisfy.
In your generation, you will be barraged by multitudes of voices telling you how to live, how to gratify your passions, how to have it all. There will be all sorts of software, satellite receivers and communication networks that will suffocate you with information. You will be bombarded with evil and wickedness like no other generation. As I contemplate this prospect, I'm reminded of T.S. Elliot's words: "Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge? Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?" I have suggested a simple solution for selecting the channel which you will attune yourselves to. Listen to and follow the voice of the Spirit. This is an ancient solution, even eternal, and may not be popular in a society whose always looking for something new. This solution requires patience in a world that demands instant gratification. This solution is quiet, peaceful and subtle. This solution requires you to walk by faith in a world governed by sight.
Learn to ponder the things of the Spirit and respond to its promptings. Filter out the static generated by Satan. As you become attune to the Spirit, "thine ears shall hear a word behind thee saying this is the way, walk ye in it." Hearkening to the voice of the living God will give you peace in this world and eternal life in the world to come. These are the greatest of all the gifts of God.

This is especially true with random messages from the news, social media, politicians, celebs and many other who tell you what they hate, what you eat and many others things where it feels incongruent to the whispers of the spirit.
Life and everything else tells you to speed up while this gospel tells you to slow down and reflect.

I find it hard to understand why people criticize and try so hard to find fault towards Mormons. By listening to these messages I reinforce what I believe is good and true. Those who go against us will only fail at there wasted attempts. There is no fault in the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, just individuals, just people who don't understand what they are missing.

My experience, having pursued that temporal satisfaction thing, was I personally found out that, much to my then dismay, "wickedness never was happiness". The path back isn't easy. What made it worth it was the dark 12 months that I survived learning in a very personal way that My Heavenly Father and my Savior know me intimately... and through it all they still love me.

The spirit always whispers in a still small voice. It is very far from the voices of the world and the things of the world. The spirit always gives us comfort, peaceful feelings and reminded us of the goodness of God and His love for us.
The spirit teaches us to pray and reminded us that our Loving Father in Heaven is always listened to our prayers and answered our prayers in His own times and ways as we patiently wait for the Lord's timing. Grateful for this wonderful teachings by the Apostle of the Lord
Elder Faust who is now passed.

Studying the scriptures helps me to feel calm, understand what to do, and have peace inside myself. I find it easier to be nice to other people, more patient, and if I study the scriptures AND pray fervently, life is so much better.
I have done this for the past few months, intently almost every day. Tonight I realized that my life has become truly rich. I have discovered how to really feel the love of God, most of the time. I am understanding things that have puzzled me for years. Injoy!

What more could you possibly ask for? Peace in this world and eternal life in the world to come. There is nothing greater!
Thank you for producing these videos. I've heard some of these talks before. At the time I remember thinking, "That was a good talk." But they hit me like a ton of bricks in this format.

The voice of the Holy Spirit is most of the time for me a very quiet voice, but he always speaks the truth. He testifies to me that Jesus Christ loves each of us enough to give his life for us. When I choose to repent, to love God, and others, is when I can really hear his voice.
