The Refiner's Fire

The refiner’s fire is not a comfortable place to be. It involves intense heat and repeated hammering. But it is in the refiner’s fire that we are purified and prepared to meet God.
Kim experienced the refiner’s fire in a way she never expected. She had always wanted a large family. Her first son wasn’t even two when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor that claimed his life. Her daughter was diagnosed with bone cancer. She lost her husband and another son to cancer.
In her refiner’s fire, she “began to think maybe I couldn’t do this. Maybe I wasn’t strong enough. Maybe I might fail. But the Lord wasn’t going to allow me to fail. I know that’s not unique to me. He does that for everybody.” She learned that the Savior does provide what you need to face tragedies with faith and confidence.
She emerged from her fire with a great deal of joy and a desire to use what she has learned to help others. “The greater our sorrow is, the greater our capacity to feel joy.”
Losing loved ones is never easy, but she was surprised. “I feel a great deal of tenderness towards my Savior because He really is so sweet. He really does provide what you need.”

There has been so many times in my life where I thought that nothing I did mattered. I have had thoughts of suicide but their was always that voice in my head saying "Keep going". I have been through a mountain of stuff. I have been bullied, I had a brain tumor and people have called me stupid from that, I had to relearn how to walk, I felt like my mission was a failure because I was always put with the missionaries that didn't want to work, I came home and had no money for college, I got married and changed everything in my life to make her happy but it ended in a miscarage and a divorce and finally it took me 6 years to get through school, I am still not there but one semester away. Through out it all I have felt so lonely but looking back God always put people in my life to help me move forward. I don't want to share all of this just to say that I am better because I really hope people never feel alone. There are people who care and love you. You never have to feel alone. Reaching out is really hard but try and do it. There are going to be people who don't care. I have family that I love that wont talk to me about my past so I don't feel so lonely. Keep going you will find happiness. It is hard to find these days but you will find it. I just met a girl and hopefully something good comes from it. Start looking for the good in your life and chase it. I Love each and everyone of you!

This is so relatable but for different reasons. I appreciate you sharing your experiences. I hope more than anything you will find someone to love who will love you back and help you complete the rest of this journey on earth. But even if you don't find that person, just know that you have a ward family to turn to as well. Just like in typical families, there may be ward family members who aren't always kind like they should be. But it seems like there are others in that same ward family who are twice as kind and make up for the ones who aren't. Those are the ones to surround yourself with. 🙂♥️

I had this exact thought, but then it dawned on me, the Lord is the one who strengthened her. The light we see in her is a reflection of God's light. Then I started to think that I need to prepare spiritually and draw close to the lord so he could help me in the same way if the same circumstances happened to me. I believe Jesus can help each of us the way he helped her. The question is, will we prepare and build that relationship with Jesus now. That will (i think) determine if we have enough water in our spiritual well to hold on and wait for the lord's hand to be revealed.

@@Mr.Ambrose_Dyer_Armitage_Esq.That's not true. I was born into a family that was members of the Church but inactive. Off and on throughout my childhood and teen years. I have been homeless all my life. Up until my parents talked to our bishop at the time and made the decision to move. My life has always been a struggle. I was poor on poverty and will probably die in poverty. What changes God has blessed with me with. I have seen miracles all throughout my life. I have been in the refinery, the crucible of life. God is real. Christ is real. This gospel is real. It saves lives. My life. I will always be grateful for it.

I NEEDED to see this, to hear it, today. I am in that place in my life. And some days, it is like torture. But each day, I pick myself up again and keep going. Heavenly Father's grace and mercy astound me. He knows exactly what I need to keep moving forward, and he provides that sustenance. I'm so thankful for every trial, no matter how hard, because each time I face the pain, I grow in my testimony of enduring to the end. In all things, give thanks.

Some days I don't understand why I'm even alive, what good am I to anyone? And then I see someone who has gone through much more, and has stayed (or become) strong. The Mormon Messages always bring me hope, His love always brings me hope, when I least expect it, and don't deserve it.

I needed to see this. My 18 month old was diagnosed with a terminal disease at 8 months. I've watched her fade every day. It is torture. As we've been in the hospital, and hospice care I've become very sad and very bitter that the church doesn't often shed light on such heartbreaking trials and focuses more on the "worldly" trials. Glad I got to see this. Gives me hope that one day I will see a light at the end of the very lonely and dark tunnel.

You know, my Sunday school teacher told us once, that we are clay on a potter's weel, and sometimes, it takes rough, sharp, tools to make us eventually become a beautiful work of art. Sometimes we do get to feel the soothing feeling of the potter's hands massaging the clay, but then come the sharp tools, making beautiful designs in the long run.

I know that I'm here today and have survived each illness because the Lord is in charge and he has a plan for me even when I feel I can't survive The next time. He lets me know I will be OK. What a comfort to know The Lord loves me and cares for me in time of trial. And that he lives.

It's the same knowing from not knowing -- except that when you know, you lead a slightly different life and get vaccinated.

Seeing this makes me believe that you can always be strong no matter what, like me I wasn’t always strong I couldn’t even defend myself when I was in junior high from a bunch of Mormon hating teens, saying it’s a fake church but now I’m in Highschool, I’m gonna graduate, I’m not gonna go on a mission just yet but I know that when the time is right the lord will let me know first, until then I need to stay strong and find peace within myself like this woman had, now not all peoples lives are perfect, some are hard, some are good, some are just downright miserable. But if you stay strong and do something you’ll be able to feel happy in life, help the homeless, find someone who needs food the most, save a life, adopt a kid, start a family, have a son or daughter, and then live to a peaceful age where you can finally meet your family in heaven.

We had came to earth to have these mortal experiences, to learn to become like our Savior. She has growth spiritialy. She has the capacity to love and comfort the sick. Especially those who suffer of cancer. My mother passed away with cancer. I learned to accept the will of the Lord. Because of this experience my heart was filled with genuine compassion for the sick and afflicted. I had choose to become a caregiver for the sick. Taking care of the sick and the affected is the work of the Lord. It was a journey of faith, compassion and miracles. The Lord is with the sick and afflicted.

This is one of the best videos I have seen in a long time. Like Job in the Old Testament this Sister had lost so much I could only imagine the pain she went through. Loss seems so permanent yet I find peace in knowing there is more ahead of us after this life. In the eternal perspective she will be with her family again. I ponder to think what does the Lord have in store for her?

    • @Tova-Barin

Having an eternal perspective probably helps, but we wouldn’t know what it’s really like unless we’d gone through the experience ourselves

Often times i feel that we, on this earth, are dealt trials and challenges because that we haven't been good enough or that we deserve to be punished. This simply is not the case. The fire heats the steel up to almost its breaking point. Why? Because that is the only why for the steel to be shaped into the tool that The Master needs it to be. Trials are not put in our lives to punish us, rather to make us better than we ever thought was possible. Trials are designed to bring us nearer to God, not drive us away. Everything that the Almighty does has a purpose who's impact we cannot even imagine. I testify to all those who read these words that God would not have a man run faster than he is able, nor would He have him carry more than he has strength. God gives us these challenges so that we may help our fellow man, be compassionate, and to grow more Christ-like. I leave these things in the sacred name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

I would rather believe in a God (Jesus) who is a Savior, a deliverer, a healer, who sets me free, and gives me life. Put your faith 100% is Jesus the One true God is the flesh. The One who lives in you.
