Seth, have i ever mentioned how truly remarkable you are? I have to say, thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart... for keeping that one lander. Love, me.
If Cats truly becomes a good deck in Pioneer, it's beautiful to see classic Alpha card Savannah Lions coming along for the ride. It brings a tear to my eye.
@@canadianham aside from vintage, I the only deck that comes to mind that actually worked with this were certain builds of Affinity in Pauper that ran like 8 lands and a million 0 mana artifacts. I think these days that build is mostly gone sadly.
Somewhere in the universe, there is a civilization of cats who developed Magic the Gathering. And at least one of them is on Arena keeping a one-lander, saying "Are we actually losing to Humans in 2024?"
Thank you, Seth, for keeping that one lander. It cured my depression and inspired me to buy a lottery ticket, with which I won a million dollars. You are so wise
Not using a sac pinger to kill the skynight, then using both of them to kill it the next turn was a pretty major blunder, could have taken Arahbo off the table and that relieves a lot of pressure. I think the keep was good and the chosen line threw the game.
@@Tarrandus Yeah, it really was more about embarrassingly greedy play after keeping the one-lander. It WAS actually a decent one-lander because the prospector gave him reasonable lines even if he didn’t get a land right away.
I'm always happy to see goblins going off and I love that Raise the Past makes them grindy, sort of like old Legacy Goblins! But oy vey, the chaotic goblins adding in the orderly white hurts my inner Vorthos
Raise the Past is a bonkers card. Loving it in Modern, running a deck based around Enduring Tenacity and bringing cards like Hinterland Sanctifier and Elas il-Kor back en-masse and just suck the soul out of my opponent.
Your deck here reminds me of the time I built a mono-red Modern deck which featured some 1/1 goblin token generating sorceries, Goblin Chieftain, and Krenko (the good one). Impact Tremors for ETB pain, Goblin Grenade for direct damage/creature removal. However, the secret sauce of the deck was the combination of Dragon Tempest and Descent of the Dragons, saccing any critical creature pieces opponents had and turning all my goblin tokens into dragons, with the Dragon Tempest damage going to the enemy's face (plus Impact Tremors, of course). I called it Goblin Buffet. And yeah, it either went early goblin aggro or mid-late game direct damage dragon death descent. Good times.
Also, I want to point out that, back when I created it (during the Tarkir block), I basically built this deck for like $60 because the Dragon Tempests and Descent of the Dragon were dirt cheap as compared to now. DT is now like $10? I had four of those suckers.
So many ways to play goblins, most notable krenko mob boss commander. Theres also muxus goblin spam, krenko prospector umbral combo, auntie (self explanatory), warren inst into kiki and tin street (breath of fury) combo, empty the warrens token spam, tin street arti equip deck, impact tremors krenko, helm primeval auntie, and honorable mention: foundry street denizen into infinite ornithoptor return play combo
Feels like the deck count benefit from exactly two plains to help against land destruction. If they destroy one of the plains you can still shock in a dual land, if they destroy both you're probably not raising, but land destruction will tend to target non-basic lands first, so it gives you a sliver of W mana more likely to fall under the radar. Having only exactly enough for the one white card you run is also a bluff in the sense that it helps disguise you're only running W for one thing.
Honestly this might be even more risky since it massively increases the chance of not being able to utilize your mana effectively. You have to keep in mind the sheer amouth of goblins that just cost R after all.
@@Shimatzu95 I just think that if it's only two cards in the deck, it surely wouldn't slow you down that much? You spend the W on goblins that cost 1R. And If you allow a mulligan for if you get too much W in your starting hand I don't think you'd brick that much, surely?
@@mads_in_zero honestly i am probably about the worst person to talk about mulligans with since whenever i try for ANYTHING more than a useable number if lands i WILL get screwed over until i go down to 4 or so 😅
PSA, if you build this deck on December 10th or later, legion loyalist is going to be added on Arena. That card plus foundry street Denizen (already in arena), will make this deck WAY better!
cats looked pretty good to me to when I faced it a few days ago in standard. until they scooped to my budget mono-blue flash deck when they were probably winning because I ran out of counterspells
First opponent: First game playing snoop instead of hordemaster and scamp was a major misplay. With scamp and fireblade's death trigger they'd be enough to kill the flying cat on attack. Third game playing fireblade instead of scamp is again a major misplay, as a turn two hit with scamp can kill any one toughness creature either on block or hit. Also, then not being able to kill the lord that makes cats with the fireblade charger ended up losing you the game.
Great analysis, thank you! Could you help me with something unrelated: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Please build Cats! I've been hoping for someone on the goldfish team to brew up a list since Foundations Spoiler season - can confirm, it's much more legit than it once was.
Trade 1 Goblin for a 1/1 before it becomes a problem while my opponent is tapped out? Nah, Ill trade 2 Goblins for it as a 4/4, after it's hit me.- "Thats a bold strategy Cotton, lets see if it pays off for em."
You do know you can sac the entire board to prospecter including itself before reanimating, right? Gives you more mana to feed into hordemaster grabs and battle cry activations..
Keeping that one lander vs rakdos demons was the wisest magic decision of 2024. Excellent work Seth
I giggled and then I boiler biggled
Thank you for keeping that one lander, Seth! "One land, one keep", words to live for!
The strategy of keeping a one lander so the rest of your hand is pure gas is flawless, Seth. I shall keep every one-lander ever
"One land, one keep"
Famous last words popularized by Seth.
Not today, my friend. Not today.
"What do we say to 'One land, One keep'?" "Not today."

@@thecrazycapn or both of them
That’s kind of a tough sell without ocelot pride and ajani being allowed in that format tbh. They are kind of the heaviest hitting cards for the tribe
Thanks for keeping that one lander
I think next time he should risk a no lander and see how it goes.
@@canadianham no lander means youre more likely to draw lands! fuck it we ball!

That 1-land keep was truly one of the best mtg-plays of this decade.
Seth fighting the good fight keeping one lander
good job keeping the one lander its was the smart thing to do. wow that hurt to say
"It's a good one lander"
It wasn't a good one lander

"It has literally everything we need" except lands.
First comment after the keep: It's a good one lander, trust me.
Last comment before dying: We can't do it without the mana.

Yeah, it really was more about embarrassingly greedy play after keeping the one-lander.
It WAS actually a decent one-lander because the prospector gave him reasonable lines even if he didn’t get a land right away.
No strictly proctor from the sideboard after game 1 when Seth said “I don’t know what we can do” was painful.
same here😂
That one lander keep was awesome! The risk was worh taking and it worked out. Long time fan Seth

I don’t think anyone is gonna praise your one land-one keeps Seth, no matter how good your draws subsequently will get 😂
Also it teaches impressionable magic toddlers reckless hand keeps
Episode of the 1 landers lol. Never change Seth
Impact Tremors or warleaders call in this deck should be nuts
That one-lander was a *chef's kiss* inspired move! You, sir, are an artist!
I just hit platinum for I think the first time, I'm still maining the phyrexian fight club deck you made
I love that Seth keeps calling Explorer, Pioneer.
I mean it's mostly pioneer. It's trying to become pioneer. At this point I would use it pretty interchangeabley
Wow, Seth. That one-lander was so good! I'm so glad you were wiser than I and kept it!
"I can't believe I have so much respect for Cats now!" Seth, I thought CC would have taught you better than that! :)
Genius level 1-lander keep. Finally, some evidence that it's mathematically worth it. Love your work
loving all the pioneer content I'm so glad that seth is a pioneer believer
The win against Cats was free if you just killed their stuff rather than trying to build a board. Goblins thrive on going creature for creature
The goblins are indeed weaker went not fighting.
Sonebody call Jim Davis : goblin IS back !
I made a self mill Hare Apparent with this tech. It was pretty hilarious.
what an awesome one lander!
Throw in one or two Rally the Ancestors for instant speed shenanigans! And more consistency.
