I have a bit of an issue with the closing statement... YES, it does take someone like Steve Rapp to get those lap times from the Ducati... But Mr. Bell is not "your average Joe" either!! Of course, the Ferrari has a bunch of stuff that "helps" any driver be 'better' than their natural skill level... but let's see "average Joe" do a full-power 4-wheel drift, and change gears in the middle...or even know that he should change gears at that moment... All told, with BOTH vehicles being piloted by top-level professionals... this WAS a "fair fight". The only thing not contested, where the car would have the advantage, was top speed on a long open road. There, the Ferrari would take the Ducati...eventually...if the road was long enough... And, of course, I would LOVE to have them BOTH sitting in my garage, waiting for me to "exercise them" on a regular and frequent schedule... (-:
From experince as a avid fan of racing and having both fhe fortune of trackimg supercar and superbike the dfference between a skill is imense for a bike in terms of sheer pace a pro rider to a skiled enthusaist and a noob is night and day a pro can cut about 15seconds of from a skilled enthusaist and a enthusaiat can cut a full min off from the noob while cars are much closer the difference between say chris harris and vetell maybe 5s seconds the differene between a bike presenter/reviewer and rossi maybe 15 seconda a lap for car ita quite easy to get within 90 percent of the best driver but its far harder to get near the same pace as the best rider and bike are very scary and they can cost you dearly if you go beyond your skill limits while car are far more forgiving
We have to repeat this test with both a rider and driver who've had their license for something like a year. I'm convinced that the rider would still stand a fair chance, simply due to the fact that most bikers are often more enthusiastic and skill-oriented
Idiot, 1198 run 2 seconds faster in the lap time than the 458. Why people are just so stupid? Is like watching a video in which they said "sky is blue" and reply "Oh yes the sky is red".
No matter how many times a bike beats a car, car fan boys will always be mad. If a car beats a bike the bike guys will be mad. What you cant argue with is a bike takes way more skill to ride. Anyone who knows how to drive a can go buy a 100,000 dollar sports car if they have the money and drive it fast. If you can drive a car fast doesnt mean you have the skill to drive a bike fast.
nyuki187 yup. It does depend on what bike you have though for comfort. I rode my dads V-strom 1000 and its like a couch. My Cbr 600 isnt to bad but after 2 or 3 hours your ass hurts
bike comfort veries, true, like the shitty sit of a 883 sportster or a king chair of a CBX-750. but i'm talking about the comfort of a hot day and a rainy day (which account for most of year), when you just get into your car, turn the AC accordingly, turn up the music and pick up your girl while it rains heavily with your/her bags in the back seat, all while staying dry, smelling nice, making it possible to go on a date any time, anywhere. i rode bikes all year, nothing comes close to a comfort of a car,
Cars vs. bikes...they both have their place, we love 'em! Unfortunately most of us will never have the chance to experience a car like the Ferrari, but the Ducati is much more accessible! I would prefer the commentary without the tired, chauvinistic "Italian supermodel" analogy
+SpyderRios Thats the simple truth. I've done both and while the supercar makes heads turn (not everyone likes that), it isnt close of a sensation to put the pedal to the metal than it is to open the throttle so wide that you feel its going to throw you right off the ride. The brutal acceleration of a liter bike (or above) is something noone can understand from watching videos.
+Adders321 No one buys a car for excitement, you muppet. They either buy it for multi purpose use or comfort/luxury or for it's beauty /show off. So lack of excitement is not a negative.

You idiot, you clearly didn't understand anything I wrote. So, in all your wisdom you are telling me people don't buy Lamborghini's or Ferrari's for excitement? bullshit.
of course a ferrari is exciting just not as exciting or as raw as bike if you want speed and outright adrenaline rush no beating a bike my friend but the those supercar sure pull the girls and get you a parking space in any fancy restaurant cant do that with a bike
This argument will rage on for years. Some like bikes some like cars. There both great. Im a bike fan as I ride on the road and hate traffic, but my wife would rather be in a super car going slow so that people can look at her. Ive never been beaten by a car on a ride through london but I wouldnt like to ride in a stock car race either. The moral is you can never compare bikes and cars as they are just not the same. To sumerise girls like cars and men like bikes!
Cars will beat bikes so easier if they have similar power to weight ratio, caterham can defeat ducati by 13 seconds with 50bhp/tone less , the Ducati ran 10s 1/4mile the new Nismo GTR ran 9.3s stock gtr ran 10s. Has u ever herd Supra or Turbo Supra?
What can't I compare, supercars>superbikes. GTR have 600less hp in p/w ratio still the ducati lead only 3 seconds ahead, The caterman have a pretty close power to weight ratio as ducati, then the car lead the bike for 13 seconds. CARS 1 BIKES 0
Watford to croyden bike every time car never. Bike to any where any time bike every time. Get real no match if you select the criteria. Some times cars are better some times bikes. There not the same so dont compare.
There is: Who work batter. In race, car get speed at straight lots of grip at corners not easy to die for a connection. Road going, car is safer, more efficient. There is many way to compare so just do it.
So, in essence, motorcycles are fast while cars can make you think you are fast. Hmm... Just watching some vids this weekend while waiting for my new Ducati Multistrada S to arrive. 0-60 in 2.8 they say.:-)
I've got the base 1198, you crack it more than half throttle from a stop and you're heading straight to loop city. That being said, it is so much fun to ride I wouldn't trade it for anything....maybe a new V4 Superleggera, but thats it lol.
I have a Ducati 1098 S it is an awesome bike even after she is 13 years old... I love her ❤ but I want to be honest with you... I am working hard because I want to own a Ferrari too! Greetings to every motor passionate!!!!
There is no question that BOTH of these vehicles are full-on 'chic magnets' ... But very few girls know the difference in motorcycles...but they ALL 'know' about Ferrari's! And most girls/ladies will be much less likely to ride with you on a sport bike than they will in a Ferrari!
this is not GP bike. At GP Bikes have 250-280 Horse power. This is serial bike you can buy it like a ferrari but you can't buy GP bike like F1. Compare f1 f3 to GP bikes if you want
DUDE you ROCK!!!...Its amazing how you understand and respect both Cars and Bikes...just like I do, I love both of em...respect both wheels...and also respect you, I was just in cars first...but then, also fell in beauty of bike...so now I'm enjoying my life loving Cars and Bikes!!!...
Lots of comments on here make it obvious to see that a lot of people don't understand the dynamics of 4 and 2 wheel vehicles around a race track. Production performance bikes (like an R1 or Ducati 1198) will always match and usually beat production supercars round a track with a large number of corners. On a fast oval track (like a NASCAR oval), the cars will probably edge it because the car carries a faster corner speed and has better aerodynamics, and a bike can't use it's superior acceleration as much Race super bikes will likewise beat race prepped super cars. HOWEVER, when you add wings to cars to generate large down-force, they will blow any bike into the weeds. An F1 car is some 20 seconds (yes, 20 SECONDS!!) faster a lap than a Moto-GP bike. Using wings, you could probably build a car that was much faster round a track than the ferrari in this video (and the bike), for less than half the cost. As for which is more fun... definitely bikes! I used to race them ...
The funny thing about it is that the Ford Fiesta is probably still more expensive than the Ducati. When you think about it, its just crazy how much performance these bikes offer for such a low price.
***** Lol, it's already 25000$ VS 280000$ What do you want ? 25000$ VS 5000000$ ? ^^ Don't you understand that a streetlegal car can't beat a superbike unless it's 5000000$ ?
let me see, Lamborghini didn't have the guts to go head to head with the 458 but Ferrari had the guts to go head to head with a Ducati 1198S. If I ever hit the lotto I'm buying the Ferrari and the Ducati.
@Paul G the busa is faster is because it has more cylinders than the Ducati. Ducati is a v twin. So needs more cc to have the power of the other 1000cc bikes.. Another example is the 3 Cylinder Triumph 675cc competes with 600cc inline 4s. Hope that answers your question.
comparing a car and bike is as illogical as comparing a corporate jet and a fighter plane. just like the bike and a fighter plane it takes a professional to pilot it at its true potential while a commercial pilot or part time racer can push a business jet or a 458, they aren't the same and are not meant to be! and price comparisons are even more stupid, more technology = more price hence, bike
Lol not really ! I love bikes and I have a little r6 myself ! Ferrari fan or not it's not possible for that high power vtwin to loose to any car with a capable rider. My point was just that because they couldn't find a lambo doesn't mean they just get a bike and have a race. It defeats the purpose since everyone would know the results anyway.
Depends on the track/car - on longer/faster tracks (e.g.: Spa, Nurburgring) an average production 1000cc bike will be faster than most supercars. Either way bikes provide a much bigger bang for the buck, but require much more specialist skill to go at comparable speeds.
SCARFACE if your taking the laferrari against a Ducati then you also have to take the top of the range bike. The 1299 and 1299s are both more street oriented. The 1299r or superleggera are the top of the range 'street legal' track focused bikes. I think it depends on the circuit to be honest. In braking zones the car can make up a lot of time as well as mid corner when the bike is less stable. The bikes speed is in its acceleration and direction changes
1299s panigale is at least 3 second a lap quicker then the 1198s im not sure laferrari is 7 second faster then 458 on willow springs that how much it has to be faster to beat a new panigale and anyway the 1299s is not even the fastest one there the 1299 superleggera or a h2r /hp4 race if your gonna bring the most expensive hypercar you better compare it to a hyper bike a 1299 is more or less a 458/488 in the ferrari tree of hierarchy and ducati aren't even the fastest superbike maker to be honest
I like this video because it highlights all parts of each side. Some similar videos skew the results, or don't paint an accurate picture. I would say its still slightly biased to car, saying it takes insane skill to enjoy a bike, but not bad overall.
Bike may be faster down a straight but the car is better in pretty much everyway; looks, sound, practicality and useability. I wouldn't choose the bike anyday, I like to stay dry when it rains.
warner735 so true, I was completely into cars before I ever got on a bike. Had a really nice 300zx that I spent a shit ton of money restoring and modding until it was just how I wanted it. Then got introduced to riding, sold the car, got a bike, and never looked back. Anyone who prefers a car has prolly never felt that feeling of leaning over close to the pavement and catapulting out of a corner
I love cars, I did a Tial Sport Stage 3 Twin-Turbo kit in my 2001 S4. Which is my weekend car since I drive a nice 2500 Dodge 4 door as my daily now. Last summer I picked up the regular 1198 (not the S). It almost makes me not care about cars anymore. My brother sold his Lamborghini, since after I got my bike he got one too, and also picked up a 1198S version. We use to ride motocross etc. Riding isn't safe like a car but you can't beat the Performance:Price ratio. Drive/ride safe guys!
Why not, just because its unfeasible it's not impossible. You win a competition, the prize is either the Ferrari or a Superbike for example. Maybe you could also tell that to the numerous racing drivers and riders that have had that exact thing happen to them also? You could have a very wealthy family, get you a ferrari for your birthday when you get your license. Whether you think it's obsolete (bad choice of descriptive), doesn't matter, that's clearly what the poster meant.
Well... it all depends. The bike can accelerate faster and brake faster and later. But the car has more rubber on the road and can take turns at higher speeds. Overall lap time may be shorter on this course, but the results may be different on a bendier course.
in drag and track race, it shows the ducati is faster. however, if you think of power to weight ratio, the ferrari 458 italia wasnt far behind yet weighs so much more with 4 wheels and all its comforts.
You are right, so in that sense I stand corrected. I just sold my Ducati Monster recently, and although they don't make them like they used to, it was still a nice-ish bike. A friend of mine who works at Ducati in their development team said that modern dukes are basically "sushi wrapped in pizza" these days. I thought it quite funny.
The fuck is everyone comparing? Both are absolute monsters. If I could afford the Ferrari, I would certainly afford the Ducati also. I believe that any petrol-head would have loads of fun in both regardless which one is faster. Whatever you ride, enjoy it and drive safe.
hmm, no, it's factual, Ducati were the first to succesfully use the layout on a sports machine in the early 70's, they were also responsible for several other innovations in motorcyling history thanks largely to Fabio Taglioni, namely, the Desmodromic valves allowing higher rev limits, the bevel drive, using the motor as a stressed member years before the competition, mass centralisation before the term existed, strong and light trellis frame.
no, your english was great. and i agree, everyone knows the power to weight of the a supersport bike will always win in a drag, the power to weight of those things is like that of a balistic missile (i ride a Triumph Speed Triple, and that is no pushover in my opinion, at 138 hp) but a full race would be particularly interesting, id love to see that, like a WSBK race with other high end race cars with them too! (i dont know the car class terms, sorry)
Bikes do not race @ the Ring. This track is not anomalous regarding the lap time disparity. MT chose this track to favor the car, since the tight layout would negate the 1198's accelerative advantage. A faster track like Big Willow would probably give another second to the bike, as it has in the past when it was included in similar tests.
GT1, GT2, GT3 those one, whichever they determine is most congruent with the performance of the bikes, i would love to see as close a match as possible
Bikes can stop faster and begin to brake closer to the apex than a car. A car usually takes longer to stop because they're so much heavier and the driver has to hit the pedal farther from the apex.
Just purchased 458 spider and you can't describe the feeling of this car on a winding road with the top down with the sun in your face. I recommend the Cowiche Canyon in WA state. There is nothing better ....my Lambo Superleggera is not even close.
I own a 458 and a Ducati 1199S Panigale. The two are just simply two different machines. The thrill from the 458 is far different than anything you get on a Ducati.
Because motoGP is not a production class, it is a prototype class, like F1. The S1000rr competes in superstock or superbike classes which are production based and is not allowed in MotoGP
you're right! motorcycle will always loose on top speed vs a car. Even the liter supersport bikes top at about 300km/h vs supercar, which can reach up to 350+km/h. In acceleration, bikes win because of the unbelievable power/weight ratio :)
I'm assuming you didnt hear the that the Ferrari just set their lap record. And the GTR was 1 1/2 seconds slower than the ferrari. The 2013 GTR lapped (by motor trend) 1:23.8 and the Ferrari lapped at 1:22.32. So GTR really doesnt go around corners any better.
Pretty sure he says he'd TAKE the Ferrari, I read that as in if someone offered you either free gratis, you'd take the pricier one, not care about the slight depreceation and buy something that would leave you a s**t load of change anyway! Makes perfect sense to me, no mention of buying and selling anywhere.
I can't believe that damn motorcycle beat the almighty 458 Italia, it is even my favorite Ferrari too. You're gonna make every Ferrari fan furious, but you were right that the Ferrari is better to drive and take less courage to show off its performance.
was hoping for more than an individual hot lap, I do understand side by side would be more dangerous unless the bike takes the predictable lead at the start!
At launch, bikes are limited by their high centers of mass and short wheelbases which cause wheelies. Cars don't have that limitation, so their limitation is a notch higher: traction. Because of this, I also tend to think that a supercar should launch faster. However, every time I've seen a professional car vs bike drag race, the bike launched faster, much to my surprise. The 458 is on a good surface and uses launch control. That is indicative of an maximally effective launch here.
These car vs bike things are all about the rider, Steve Rapp is a "retired" superbike racer and now Ducati development rider. Best of the best. Most anyone else would have lost to the Ferrari, cars usually win these things on the road course. But machine wise? The only things faster than bikes? F1 cars post faster lap times than MotoGP bikes, but even then GP bikes out accelerate the cars and hold the top speed records on the same tracks. F1 has 24in tires vs a credit card sized contact patch...
This is in Kern County. Not even L.A. County, NOT outside L.A. ; Unless you say everywhere is outside LA. West of Rosamond and south of Willow Springs. Next door is the 'fastest racetrack in the west'.
but i agree, your average rider cannot thrash the Ducati at the limit, but anyone can get in a 458 and use the Stability and Traction Managment to make them faster....
You are correct, however, why do we have to compare all the time? bikes are bikes, cars are cars, can't we just enjoy them all for what they bring to the motoring experience? But yes, you are correct, in a matter of outright speed, especially around a track, four wheels has a higher potential. But who cares about numbers? :P
It's not like motorcycles are actually faster than cars. Top speed, most of the time the exotics having a great top speed but weight helps the bike out tremendously. Bikes are lightning fast on take off because they weigh also 2000 pounds lighter than a car. Put those two on the Florida turnpike and any straight road longer than a mile, the 458 will catch it. I'll give the 458 close to a mile and a half and he will walk the bike. Because when the Bike hits full speed, the 458 is still going.
So by that logic a tank with spikes should win. No lap time is the best indicator because it shows what really is the fastest vehicle, not which vehicle can intimidate the other.
I discussed with my flatmate, and it went down to this: He with his car, he has air con and heating. I with my Ducati Monster, I feel the ground on my boots in the curves. He can do weekend groceries, I accelerate to 80km/h in the first gear. So imo it's basically functionality and comfort vs pureness and emotionality. A car can be very emotional as well, but it will be much more expensive. And: Accidents on a bike can be very awful =( And: I hate it to put the protective gear on :P
@MrsShadowBroker Yes they do.. a 600 can run 1:19 race ready at willow springs.. All you need is a license plate and head lights and its street legal..
Reason being is actually i owned a gsxR on a 07 plate. A gsxR-1000 though powerfull very quick in accletration, And alot of of midrange grunt, True performance sheer thrill and power. It was nice dont get me wrong id be lying if i said otherwise. They do well in World superbikes because they are tuned up so much. Runnin between 215-220bhp. Plus the riders are damn good. Reason i like ducati's bud is i find there power delivery overall better than inline 4's. Hope this has helped you.... Ben
The main test, which you seemed to have missed, took place on a 13 turn 1.8 mile road course. Also your theory of European super handling does not hold water, because several 600cc bikes went faster than the AMERICAN Zr1 and Z06 which went faster than the EUROPEAN 458... And the cars have very similar power to weight ratios and 1/4 mile times to the 600cc bikes. So I guess the bikes were getting there with handling, huh, smart guy?
For a high end giant motor bike. You can get a middleweight supersport for about $10000, or a more tame one for about 6 or 7. A smaller 250-400CC will smoke most any car on the road, for about 4-5 new, 2-3 used with super low miles. For comparible performance, you need to spend at least $30k in a car, and is unmatched on the high end.
It is fun. They are very different machines but made for the same thing. And really the lap times are within a tire compound of each other, so don't get do butt hurt over it. Put a sport touring tire on the bike and a track tire on the car and the lap time differences would probably reverse. You didn't have to watch it if it is so pointless.
Sure, cars have 4 wheels but they grip less and do corners slower than a bike. Makes a lot of sense, doesn't it? This vid shows only lap time, they should show how fast ferrari and bike went on each corner and, btw, brake distances. Of course that if you see only lap time, the bike can recover going slower on corners and having to brake earlier (not even the weigth difference can compensate the huge difference in braking systems) with massive acceleration between corners.
I'd rather be good at riding and save $270,000 and get the bike
How much will a new pair of legs cost you?
+Gitonga Mwaniki how much will a new opinion cost u coz u defo need one
+Gitonga Mwaniki In Canada free, free healthcare, get the bike :P
PappaLitto me too!!

can't believe 10 years has passed since the first time I saw this amazing video!
Of course the Ferrari would lose in a drag race against the Ducati! But around the racetrack, the 458 will murder...
Damn it!
Chris Cummings wrong
@Alistair Blake he's quoting the video. did you even watch the vid till the end?
Idiot, 1198 run 2 seconds faster in the lap time than the 458.

Ducati for the win
458 Italia Laptime: 1.22.3
1198S Laptime: 1.19.3
Shame the ducati's don't sound as great as they look, cause the ferrari does! Great video, thanks for uploading :)

I just bought one of these bikes. Oh. My. Sweet. Baby. Jesus.
I think I am going to need bigger testicles.
Italians...thanks for the great art, fast cars, trick bikes & amazing women!
nothing beats the fun and girl pulling power per $ of a Ducati :)
Haha, I need to replace my Suzuki then, because it only seems to attract men.
theTenthlife Easy trick, go to bars with your helmet, girls don't care what you ride, if you ride a motorcycle, she's probably going to want your D
theTenthlife Gixxers suck! They're great on the track, but that's only when other dudes are all around you, COL (chuckling out loud).
Never said Gixxer...
I'm lucky to have both, so depending on what I'm thinking at the moment, I pick one to ride. Both are completely crazy, simply perfect. Nice video.
i like this british guy, his review is always been mature, well organized, and informative
at 10th of a price
They should do it again with a BMW HP4, like lol where's the Ferrari???
This video made me appreciate the ferrari more. It did great against a super bike
Is it me or the Ducati's of the 2010s are more beautiful than the current model?
An excellent bike vs. car video - let the next round commence!
10 seconds flat for the quarter is stunning though.
But but but but but I'm butthurt. There's only one sort of car that will own a super/sports motorcycle on a track - super cars - the f1 - f3 types.
Yup and they are both illegal to drive on public roads and they cost many millions of dollars ;)
this is not GP bike. At GP Bikes have 250-280 Horse power. This is serial bike you can buy it like a ferrari but you can't buy GP bike like F1. Compare f1 f3 to GP bikes if you want
WOW that is one fast car to come that close to a bike! well done Ferrari
BEGIN THE CHANT! DU-CA-TI! DU-CA-TI! DU-CA-TI! :)
On a fast oval track (like a NASCAR oval), the cars will probably edge it because the car carries a faster corner speed and has better aerodynamics, and a bike can't use it's superior acceleration as much
Race super bikes will likewise beat race prepped super cars.
They are just trying to make Ferrari look better at the end
next up... a ford fiesta vs Ducati 1198S.... makes as much sense as this video
The funny thing about it is that the Ford Fiesta is probably still more expensive than the Ducati. When you think about it, its just crazy how much performance these bikes offer for such a low price.
TheLastGunfighter Block's fiesta is 500 grand :)
***** Lol, it's already 25000$ VS 280000$
What do you want ? 25000$ VS 5000000$ ? ^^ Don't you understand that a streetlegal car can't beat a superbike unless it's 5000000$ ?
let me see, Lamborghini didn't have the guts to go head to head with the 458 but
Ferrari had the guts to go head to head with a Ducati 1198S. If I ever hit the lotto I'm buying the Ferrari and the Ducati.
rdsii64 They're still pussies for not racing LaFerrari against the P1 and the 918.
tavi921 VS Bmw hp4 VS Panigale superleggera VS Aprillia RSV4 VS R1
That would be a good race
@Paul G the busa is faster is because it has more cylinders than the Ducati. Ducati is a v twin. So needs more cc to have the power of the other 1000cc bikes.. Another example is the 3 Cylinder Triumph 675cc competes with 600cc inline 4s. Hope that answers your question.
that noise from the 1198 testastretta. masterpiece
comparing a car and bike is as illogical as comparing a corporate jet and a fighter plane. just like the bike and a fighter plane it takes a professional to pilot it at its true potential while a commercial pilot or part time racer can push a business jet or a 458, they aren't the same and are not meant to be! and price comparisons are even more stupid, more technology = more price hence, bike
Your comment = Ferrari fanboy who can't accept defeat
Lol not really ! I love bikes and I have a little r6 myself ! Ferrari fan or not it's not possible for that high power vtwin to loose to any car with a capable rider. My point was just that because they couldn't find a lambo doesn't mean they just get a bike and have a race. It defeats the purpose since everyone would know the results anyway.
All true.. to ride a bike like that around the track, one has to be pretty special. HOWEVER even I will outdrag a $200K Ferrari on my $6K Gixxer 1000.
Yeah it takes guts to drive superbikes. But super bike vs super car or 1299 panigale whatever vs laferrari, i am afraid the bike loses
Depends on the track/car - on longer/faster tracks (e.g.: Spa, Nurburgring) an average production 1000cc bike will be faster than most supercars. Either way bikes provide a much bigger bang for the buck, but require much more specialist skill to go at comparable speeds.
My old 1984 Ninja 900 would do a high 10 second quarter mile, & you can get one of those for $1500.00!!
1299s panigale is at least 3 second a lap quicker then the 1198s im not sure laferrari is 7 second faster then 458 on willow springs that how much it has to be faster to beat a new panigale and anyway the 1299s is not even the fastest one there the 1299 superleggera or a h2r /hp4 race if your gonna bring the most expensive hypercar you better compare it to a hyper bike a 1299 is more or less a 458/488 in the ferrari tree of hierarchy and ducati aren't even the fastest superbike maker to be honest
i love the way this guy talks. U know what your saying dude. Ur awesome
I like this video because it highlights all parts of each side. Some similar videos skew the results, or don't paint an accurate picture. I would say its still slightly biased to car, saying it takes insane skill to enjoy a bike, but not bad overall.
Fuck it, I'm getting a Kawasaki ZX 14R.
this 4 little word call FUCK, indeed is a powerful word
How about a 600, if it's the first time you've ridden I don't think you need any faster than 2.9 seconds to 60mph.
next up..Ford Ranger vs Ducati 1198s
To make it fair they should take the DUCATI 1199 Superleggera which will be released in 2014!
Bike may be faster down a straight but the car is better in pretty much everyway; looks, sound, practicality and useability. I wouldn't choose the bike anyday, I like to stay dry when it rains.
To each his own, but after riding bikes all the time, cars are boring.
warner735 so true, I was completely into cars before I ever got on a bike.
Well if you have the money to chose, why not both (chuckle)
rdsii64 If you have the money more power to you, but even in First World countries very very few people can afford a Ferrari or Lambo.
warner735 I can barely afford the used motorcycle I have now, but If I did have that kind of cash.......................
Both are a fantasy, and my favorite of their respective categories.
LOL at the Englishman having a moment in the Italian car, funny shit.
I never get tired of these showdowns. :-)
Both italian, and the bike vs car deal has always made a great show.
My favorite video of all time (but then again, I'm in love with everything "Ducati")
Bell's supermodel reference was perfect lol
no, your english was great. and i agree, everyone knows the power to weight of the a supersport bike will always win in a drag, the power to weight of those things is like that of a balistic missile (i ride a Triumph Speed Triple, and that is no pushover in my opinion, at 138 hp) but a full race would be particularly interesting, id love to see that, like a WSBK race with other high end race cars with them too!
As I and Motor Trend have said, a tight track helps the car. The Streets is a tight track, but the bike won in spite of the advantage.
The 'Ring lap time:
-Ferrari 599XX: 6:58
-Ferrari Enzo: 7:25
-Ferrari 458: 7:32
-Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4: 7:40.76
-Lamborghini Murcielago LP640: 7:40
-Lamborghini Murcielago LP670 Super Veloce: 7:42
Is it clear?
Good commenting on the video finally explaining those ppl out there why it is nonsense to complain about Bike vs Car comparisons
That V-twin sounds just sick!
It's cool to have one of each Italian in ya garage. Each has it's place, one is not better than the other.
Because motoGP is not a production class, it is a prototype class, like F1. The S1000rr competes in superstock or superbike classes which are production based and is not allowed in MotoGP
Love this! Never gets old!
you're right! motorcycle will always loose on top speed vs a car. Even the liter supersport bikes top at about 300km/h vs supercar, which can reach up to 350+km/h. In acceleration, bikes win because of the unbelievable power/weight ratio :)
motorcycles are not for everyone, but it truly feels liberating to drive one
Very fair review. That was enjoyable to watch.
Nice vid.
Now run a F12 Berlinetta against the 1199 Panigale S. Would be interesting to see what happens.
@tomhall2001 the Porsche 911 gt2rs took 2 miles before it beat the 1199. Didn't pass it until 204mph. So a 1 mile would have been the same story.
Whichever you buy one will not get disappointed not even tiny little bit.
Lap records at willow springs technical track are by Jeremy Toye on an R6 and Cbr 1000rr.
R6 clocked 1:14.913
CBR ran a 1:14.271
You are correct, however, why do we have to compare all the time? bikes are bikes, cars are cars, can't we just enjoy them all for what they bring to the motoring experience?
@lionbeer actually choose your words carefully... Ken Blocks ford fiesta goes from 0-60 in 1.9 seconds..
So by that logic a tank with spikes should win.
No lap time is the best indicator because it shows what really is the fastest vehicle, not which vehicle can intimidate the other.
Both beautiful examples of art and automotive engineering.
And: Accidents on a bike can be very awful =(
And: I hate it to put the protective gear on :P
I Love You Duke! Sweet justice as it finest. Thank you Ducati for gladly accepting the challenge. The Ultimate Anti Ferrari!!
Cars aren't made to take turns at 150+mph. And like they said the power to weight ratio kills it on the track to
@MrsShadowBroker Yes they do.. a 600 can run 1:19 race ready at willow springs..
Ben
The real star here is Willow Springs. God I love that track.
One other thing to consider ir the bike had been a BMW1000SS it would have wiped the floor with the Ferrari and the Ducati
It really amuses me how every hates on Ferraris and that they have never even seen one in person
@OnInstiinct no worries.lol.. It was the 2009. Google "2009 supersport shootout track."
