I would have to point out one thing about Sentai being on air: it only had one time it had a gap and that was in 1978, there was no Sentai show that year due to JAKQ being a ratings failure, so Supaidaman took its slot on that year, while the only Sentai thing that happened in 1978 was the JAKQ VS Goranger movie. Ironically, Tosho Daimos was in its time slot for some reason, which is evident that after the final episode's end credits, the next thing that shows up? the 1st episode preview for Battle Fever J. Fun fact: Denjiman and Sun Vulcan's movies had the privilege to be screened with Japanese theatrical rereleases of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and 101 Dalmatians respectively for their respective Toei Manga Matsuri film series in 1980 and 1981 respectively.
@Soundout12 I see. Also, kudos for adding Akibaranger, Dino Force Brave and Highschool Heroes in the mix. Sadly for the latter, it would probably never get a streaming release because the majority of the cast are a boyband from the infamous Johnny and Associates, who have a hate for anything online related towards their groups (they are the reason the last 2 episodes of Ultraman Dyna was never available for streaming in Japan as well as the Tiga opening "TAKE ME HIGHER", when aired, would either be the cover version or "Awaken! Tiga", and it affects the Mill Creek release of the series on DVD).
This is an amazing video! I started with Gokaiger which is a spectacular series! Then I’m excited for Boonboomger because it’s the longest time in super Sentai history without a Green ranger which would be 4 years unless there’s a secret green ranger that messes this up but it doesn’t seem like there is going to be one.

This guide did a great job in getting me to consider some entries differently, while also solidifying my attitude towards others! What Sentai series have you rewatched the most, and why? Glad to hear the guide helped! I've probably rewatched Liveman and Dekaranger the most since I've seen both twice. Most shows I've only seen once so far. Zyuranger is the most boring Sentai to me. Show put me to sleep consistently
Usually the 6th Ranger is overpowered, an enemy originally, or usually has a big sacrifice moment. These are not set in stone, but usually one of these criteria shows up. Sometimes all three, like ZyuRanger showed.

Thanks for this refreshing guide on Super Sentai I have a backlog of the Super Sentai series to watch (Don't ask where I got them) But I did manage to watch quite several series so I can put my thoughts about it. Gorenger- A great series although a bit too long for 84 episodes with a wonderful cast and storylines although many of the episodes felt similar to Kamen Rider 1971 like spy and sabotage stories since it is from Ishimori Shoutaro together with Jakq. Jakq - The 1st half was pretty dark with the team facing ordinary and enhanced criminals who were committing various crimes and people were killed left and right. The introduction of Big One is also the "Jump the Shark" moment when they switched to a lighter tone with one episode of Big One disguising as Hilter and fooling the villains that raise eyebrows. Battle Fever J- This was the genesis of Super Sentai going forward with power suits, giant robots, and a cast which the most are pretty enjoyable except for the 1st Miss America which doesn't do much since her actress can't speak Japanese (Her Japanese voice was dubbed by Momorenger's actress) until the 2nd Miss America took over. Battle Cossack's reason of leaving the show is pretty reasonable but will have consequences in future Sentai series. Denjiman - The start of how Super Sentai really began started here. With high action and the villains are enjoyable, especially Machiko Soga who played Queen Hediran is the perfect villain role 101. Sun Vulcan- The sequel series to Denjiman which has Queen Hedrian returned as a cyborg villain and halfway through the show, the 1st time the red ranger was replaced. Unfortunately, the cross-over between Sun Vulcan and Denjiman did not go through despite promotion photos showing them teaming up. Goggle V- With better special effects and high action, Goggle V is pretty cool and it is also the 1st sentai show that I was exposed to when I was a kid. Dynaman- One word-Explosion, Explosion, and more Explosion! Bioman- Toei really shot themselves in the foot as the 1st Yellow 4 actress left the show for unknown reasons (with rumors of her not getting along with the cast to offending the Yakuza) and Toei has to scramble a replacement actress which now Toei has to make the actors sign a contract which they have to stay throughout the entire series run unless very valid reasons so they will not replace actors to confuse audiences. Changeman- 2nd longest series with 53 episodes due to Flashman has yet to complete filming. It was an okay show although the last half was really padding the show. Flashman- It is a pretty good show with high stakes as the Flashman realized they can only stay on Earth for 1 year due to their unique bodies and race against time to defeat the villains. Maskman- It is Romeo and Juliet in Super Sentai as Red Mask falls in love with a Princess of the Underground Empire. Liveman- Haven't seen it yet. Tuboranger- Haven't seen it yet. Fiveman- It is crazy fun especially how the team came up to defeat the final boss in the finale. Jetman- Ryu and Gai are both badass with the villains being all unique and a shocking finale at the end. Zyuranger- It is very fantasy-like with some darker moments, especially between Geki and Burai's relationship as half brothers. Dairanger is pretty overrated. Kakuranger- It took inspiration from Journey to the West and it is pretty fun to watch from start to end. Carranger- This funny show and the villains' motives is basically from a page from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Megaranger- Great characters and great villains with some fun and dark moments. Gingaman - Currently watching it and it has some great fun and dark moments with a wonderful cast. Gogo V- Will watch after Gingaman Timeranger- Haven't seen it yet. Gaoranger- Same as Megaranger and the finale is pretty awesome. Hurricanger- Shurikenger is my favourite character and he doesn't even have a face! Abaranger- Haven't seen it yet. Dekaranger- One of my favourite series which even won an award in the Seiun Award which is given to excellent works of Sci-fiction. Magiranger- Haven't seen it yet. Bokuranger- Pretty good if you love adventure dramas like Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider. Gekiranger- Haven't seen it yet. Go-Onger- Pass (Seriously) Shinkenger- Another favorite series with a wonderful cast of heroes and villains and the music score is kick ass! Goseiger is pretty underrated but I enjoyed the villain who keeps respawning as a new character and each time, the stakes get higher. Gokaiger- Other than the sentai tributes episodes, Gokaiger's own episodes are quite okay. The villains are a joke, to be honest with only Basco, Gokai Red's rival a true threat. Go-Busters is another underrated series with a great cast and a villain who is a mix of the Joker and Riddler with a French accent. One more thing- "It's Morphin Time!" Kyoryuger is fun action all the way! ToQger- It is bad imo. Ninniger-Toei writers were really drunk when they made this show. Zyuohger- Same as Ninniger. Kyuranger- Too many chefs spoil the broth and you can make a drinking game and probably die if the word "Lucky" keeps appearing in every episode. Lupin vs Keisatsu - Haven't seen it yet. Ryusoulger- Haven't seen it yet. Kiramager- Haven't seen it yet. Zekainger- I have watched a few episodes and didn't like it despite having a similar premise to Gokaiger. Donbrothers- The softa of the sequel since Kaito appeared as Zekainger Black and the Donbrothers can use the Previous Sentai powers like Gokaiger. Although the story is all over the place. Kingohger- Haven't seen it yet. Sorry for the lefty comments. There is also some trivia in some of the shows that I watch but didn't put in otherwise this comment post will go too long. Hope it helps some people in choosing which show to start with.
I’m currently starting from Goranger. I’ve watched several of them but I want to go through them again to watch the subtle changes of Japan over the years such as the culture, tech and fashion.
I usually recommend Gokaiger or Strongest Battle, so newbies can get a taste of each Sentai. Liveman or Jetman, if they want something classic/darker. Also, Akibaranger if they want something comedic and more their age.
Great video! Very Thorough. Though I did notice by the end you stopped saying which Sentai shows were adapted into Power Rangers, even skipping a few of the earlier ones like Timeranger/Time Force, Gaoranger/Wild Force and most of the more recent ones like Kyoryuger/Dino Charge.
Thanks! I did skip mentioning Dino Charge intentionally due to the Kyoryuger segment running very long. I thought I had included Time Force and Wild Force but they might have gotten lost in editing
@@Soundout12 That's fair, it was a long segment, but, like I said, very thorough. That makes sense. Still though, you did a great job on it. One of the greatest things that I love about Super Sentai is that, outside of crossovers, each series is completely standalone, so you don't need to have seen any other Sentai series to enjoy a particular one. Especially the ones from Gorenger to at least Goseiger, while after that, you do have crossovers that are in the series itself, rather than as a movie. Super Sentai World during Kakuranger is pretty good too. Inconsequential, but still good.
@@tgif1345 That’s what I love about it too! I was going to include Super Sentai World, but it didn’t have any cast on screen and just through voices so I left it off
@@Soundout12 I mean, it makes it one of the most accessible long running TV franchises of all time in that regard. Technically true. Shiro Izumi, who played Burai in Zyuranger and ChangePegasus in Changeman, is in it, but not as either of his Sentai team characters. Lol.
@@silverbricks_yt eh but at the same time don brothers can be thought of as it's own thing with no problems which is what i meant when i said sun vulcan was a DIRECT sequel
@@Lightning63 I wasn’t saying that you had to watch one before the other. I was trying to say that Donbrothers is like Sun Vulcan being a direct squeal.
side note 2 reasons the full abaranger team doesn't appear in the 3 dino team cross over and it's a missing ranger by missing ranger thing for anyone who cares 1 abare killer was canonically dead and 2 ... the abare black suit was damaged some time between gokaiger and it hadn't been fixed could but wouldn't be ready in time
You said the actor for Big One came back in Gao VS SS since the JAKQ series, well you are mistaken, he also played a different character in Super Sentai, in Ohranger, he was Chief Counsellor Naoyuki Miura.
Yep. Hiroshi Miyauchi has been a lot of characters since Big One but I was referring to it being his first return as Big One. My phrasing was a little unclear
Since I know you get questions all the time for viewing guides, ever think about doing the Metal Heroes? I know it’ll be a less daunting task than your previous Toku viewing guides.
@@Soundout12 I would say either when Toei decides to use the franchise for another team up movie or whenever Discotek announces they’re releasing another one as you know they’ll be doing more.

It’s not something I can do as the shows that aren’t officially licensed are in a legal grey area and I don’t want to get them in trouble by giving them too much attention. The shows are out there! You just have to do a little digging!
Hey man great video always wanted to see one like this up on the channel I was hoping this video would have more insight on where and how to watch them other than buying the DVDs Like I watched Zyuranger Dairanger and Kakuranger on Tubi in my next plan was to watch Hurricaneger and Abaranger as I'm enjoying more of the dinosaur ninja seasons right now before I move on to anything else Was hoping there'd be more of a guide here on how to watch everything after hurricaneger in an easy and accessible way
Sadly there’s no official way to watch anything after Hurricaneger streaming legally in North America. Abaranger and Dekaranger have DVD sets but the rest are fansubs or nothing
@@Soundout12 right I see, would you be interested in making a video about all extra and 6th rangers and supporting heroes? I think it could be an interesting video
@@Soundout12 I might be asking for too much, but would you at least mention those prototype 6th and extra rangers? Like transformed papa, manga warrior, x1 mask, and characters like that? :)
As a casual power rangers fan looking to get into super sentai, this video has been really informative and interesting; however as a viewing guide the way you presented this kind of sucks. While knowing where the rangers made appearances in the future is neat, it really just kept jumbling up the watch order to the point where I don't think I could actually use this unless I wrote the whole thing down and unscrambled it. Like you'd be on a sentai from the 80s, then you'd list every other show and movie with a cameo up until the present day before we jumped back to the 80s, then repeat this over and over again. It's a bit over-critical but I feel like it just needs to be said to make joining in easier on other newcomers like me for any other guides you make.
Wish you were doing this from more of a physical media perspective, you had a ton but didn't really show them after the intro :/ Also, I can't seem to find a lot of the earlier stuff, did they never come to region 1 or something?
I’ve covered the Sentai DVDs themselves in other videos on the channel! There’s a playlist for Tokusatsu DVD/Blu-Ray videos They haven’t released anything earlier than Fiveman and later than Dekaranger in Region 1
Where’s the best place to find most to all of these series, movies and specials? I know Tubi only has a handful of the series, which itself is great but there’s so much to check out!
Tubi’s the best place to go for what’s been licensed! Fiveman, Abaranger and Dekaranger are also on DVD. Everything else (including the movies and specials for those shows) has to be found using the old FANdom SUBways.
I'm learning japanese would be an useful exercise, but i'm not interest on watching every single super sentai show. i'll watch only the super sentai counterpart of my favorite power rangers seasons. I don't want to watch the shows before power rangers Only planning to watch gogo v, timeranger, abaranger and dekaranger

One more thing- "It's Morphin Time!"
Kyoryuger is fun action all the way!
That’s an awesome way to do it! I did that with Showa Kamen Rider and want to watch Metal Hero in order as well
Magiranger was my 1st sentai ever loved it. I still havent finished Gokaiger.
I usually recommend Gokaiger or Strongest Battle, so newbies can get a taste of each Sentai. Liveman or Jetman, if they want something classic/darker. Also, Akibaranger if they want something comedic and more their age.
This is a good recommendation list
Loved the video and it taught me a lot.
Another great one bro.
Thank you!
Lol.
@@tgif1345 True lol
Fantastic video!
Thank you!
50:11 I think the mech footage was used in cosmic fury!
Yes it was!
Great now do this all in one take without looking at your notes.
I tried to but I kept tongue tying villain and movie names 😆
according to my research sun vulcan is also the only sentai series to be a direct sequel to another being a sequel to well denziman
Thanks! I didn’t know that sun Vulcan was a sequel to denziman. Also Donbrothers is also a sequel to Zenkaiger
@@silverbricks_ytYeah but you don't need to watch either Denziman or Zenkaiger before Sun Vulcan or Donbrothers.
@@silverbricks_ytalso King-ohger is a sequel to Kyoryuger
Im sure you said the name of the new sentai show but all i heard booty booty buck buck kapow.
Power Rangers rangers Lost Galaxy was awesome 😊
Awesome collection dude, im.just missing carranger and fiveman
Wait. You're telling me that the plot of Abaranger is the same as the 1993 Super Mario Bros movie?!
I never made that connection before
But yes
I should actually watch the seventh purple Ranger debut movie next year just so that way the timing stuff lines up.
Watch it real time
@@Soundout12 that’s basically what I’ll be doing.
Step 1: Watch Magiranger
Step 2: Watch Dekaranger
Step 3: ????
Step 4: PROFIT!
This is a good plan
Awesome video and good guide
Thanks!
Since I know you get questions all the time for viewing guides, ever think about doing the Metal Heroes?
I know it’ll be a less daunting task than your previous Toku viewing guides.
Honestly the most daunting part of doing a Metal Heroes guide is figuring out when to release a video on a dead franchise
@@Soundout12
I would say either when Toei decides to use the franchise for another team up movie or whenever Discotek announces they’re releasing another one as you know they’ll be doing more.
@@SutargozTheKaijuFromKrypton Discotek doing another release would definitely be what I count on
@@Soundout12
I imagine they’re going to finish off the space sheriff trilogy and after that, we’ll see where things will go on from there.
Maybe some of the movies get released next?
@@SutargozTheKaijuFromKrypton Possible we could get a Space Sheriff movie collection like the Digimon movie set
When you talked about the 37th super sentai team you failed to mention it was adapted into power rangers Dino charge and super Dino charge!
Editing gaff! I recorded it but it didn’t make it in!
Will you also do a updated video on the KR guide as well btw cause i plan to watch Geats and probably Gotchard very soon after Zero-One and Revice
I’ll be doing an update later this year
Whoa! I like this sentai fan-guy. 🤔 Seems good-natured like an anime MC, which is a stark contrast to the predominant _aggressively angry_ fanboys online. Will subscribe soon!
Aww thank you!! That’s a very nice compliment
I wish he could’ve mentioned good places to watch the series that aren’t officially streaming/on dvd
It’s not something I can do as the shows that aren’t officially licensed are in a legal grey area and I don’t want to get them in trouble by giving them too much attention.
The shows are out there! You just have to do a little digging!
Go on red returned and the engiens in boomboomger
Hey man great video always wanted to see one like this up on the channel
I was hoping this video would have more insight on where and how to watch them other than buying the DVDs
Like I watched Zyuranger Dairanger and Kakuranger on Tubi in my next plan was to watch Hurricaneger and Abaranger as I'm enjoying more of the dinosaur ninja seasons right now before I move on to anything else
Was hoping there'd be more of a guide here on how to watch everything after hurricaneger in an easy and accessible way
Sadly there’s no official way to watch anything after Hurricaneger streaming legally in North America. Abaranger and Dekaranger have DVD sets but the rest are fansubs or nothing
Kakuranger is getting a 30th Anniversary special
I'm so excited!
donbrothers and kingohger are the best series ever
Super Sentai Dino Ninja Bug Car
I just wanna know which key episodes to watch in every series from go ranger I don't wanna watch every episode
So... does this mean we could possibly get a Metal Heroes guide?
Yes. Just gotta figure out release timing
@@Soundout12 If you weren't doing this vid, I would've said it would've been perfect to release it along with Sharivan coming to Blu-Ray
@@maingamer6846 Definitely. Timing didn’t work out for this Metal Hero Blu-Ray but maybe for the next one
We need ninja 🥷 Zord power now
using this to keep track of where i am 7:34
what about the taisen/crossover kamen rider movies? what's your take about it being important to the lore?
Most of the Taisen stuff is really fun but not too impactful on the individual lore to the series. My favorite one is probably Superhero Senki
You've missed a few characters there. There were attempts to add the 6th ranger before Burai in Bioman and Maskman.
Yep. And since they were both one offs, and not officially counted as sixth members, I left them off to streamline information
@@Soundout12 right I see, would you be interested in making a video about all extra and 6th rangers and supporting heroes? I think it could be an interesting video
That could be a good video!
@@Soundout12 I might be asking for too much, but would you at least mention those prototype 6th and extra rangers? Like transformed papa, manga warrior, x1 mask, and characters like that? :)
@@DreamMarkoI would mention those, yes
the only sentai i have not watched yet are preZyuranger and the Korea versions and likely not going to watch akibranger
I miss those day's when you could watch them free on TH-cam
That’s how I started watching Sentai
@@Soundout12 I watch them on Facebook but miss the Facebook app you could stream on tv
So with the 10, 20 and 30 years later movies, do I watch them after the shows or later on?
Watch them after the shows (Unless its like Dekaranger where they show up in other shows, then there's a little more placement work)
As a casual power rangers fan looking to get into super sentai, this video has been really informative and interesting; however as a viewing guide the way you presented this kind of sucks.
Thank you for the feedback
Wish you were doing this from more of a physical media perspective, you had a ton but didn't really show them after the intro :/
Also, I can't seem to find a lot of the earlier stuff, did they never come to region 1 or something?
I’ve covered the Sentai DVDs themselves in other videos on the channel! There’s a playlist for Tokusatsu DVD/Blu-Ray videos
They haven’t released anything earlier than Fiveman and later than Dekaranger in Region 1
@@Soundout12ty good sir! I'll check it out

@@Soundout12I’m unfamiliar. Are you able to share any? Best I’ve seen is what I’ve been able to find here on TH-cam
