The Ohrangers series was an anniversary special and the costumes looked a lot like the Gorangers. it was supposed to be a dark series but there were terrorist attacks and natural disasters in Japan, so they rewrote the series to make it less dark. That's why we have dance scenes

CarRanger was a comedy Sentai, heavy on puns and physical comedy. However in Japan the audience was used to the new season of Sentai being only loosely connected to the previous one only by being the next group. OhRanger had comedy, to break the serious main story. CarRanger was 95% goofy with a sprinkle of drama.
OhRanger was indeed one of the most overpowered teams. The theme was the villains were very overpowered as well. Then CarRanger was literally a space criminal hot rod gang.
I agree that Zeo to Turbo was pretty ho-hum but the series weren't meant to connect. I think when the US started Power Rangers In Space they got a better understanding that carrying over characters has to be done delicately and new rosters are the simplest way to not get things too complicated.

The filming and CGI upgrades were solely for shitting non stop mecha for Gaoranger.
arguably Zords are the most important part of the show given that's all kid really cared about.

@@Slixer why i agree zords were always hype as a kid you just know that the amount of zords was made purely for commercial purposes. The more zords there were the more toys were sold.
In all fairness those were some great zords
When we met Tanya at the end of MMPR S3/MMAR she revealed that she had explorer parents who were lost in a jungle and she was left with a tribe in Africa, where they were exploring.

Early sentai had mostly been entirely military and technology based until Zyuranger. Just mentioning it since you've been experiencing the series a certain way right now. I have been enjoying watching your thoughts on sentai as you go in open minded and experience it for the first time.
According to Super Sentai Lore, you have Ancient Civilizations who's like Next Door Neighbors with Trilobites & Armored Fishes, & a Smilodon & Mammoth are Considered "Dinosaurs".

@@conradojavier7547 Zyuranger and Ohranger uses different universes until Gokaiger's greatest treasure in the universe retcons Super Sentai seasons from using their self-contained universes to have all the seasons uses same universe
This wasn't always the case as some seasons had things like Animals, Science, Cars (Turboranger did it first!), Constellations with Changeman btw this was part of a trilogy known by us as the Space Saga as all those season had space themed rangers. Jetman definately had the military theme in it heavily and it was largely an homage to Gatchaman.
The machine empire remnants in Forever Red are reused Beetleborg costumes.
That, and Serpent Terra being destroyed so easily, made Forever Red unforgiveable. I'll throw in suspension of disbelief for the various red rangers getting their powers back, but those, nope.

Man, I wish they kept the same tone from the first few episodes. It got a lot jankier after that retooling for the most part, and I think any potential Goro had was flushed down the toilet with that.

i find it interesting that you liked ohranger and its tone as alot of sentai fans arent a fan of the tonal shifts as it was originally intended to be really dark in the vain of a jetman or liveman
You seem to not realize that Zeo had a reduced budget due to declining ratings, so they couldn't do really as much. This is a big reason why the show shifted over to using a lot more sentai material. It was a cost cutting measure.

This entire channel is weird, he’s analyzing “Power Rangers” in a very critical perspective when it’s a TV show made for kids. It’s not suppose to be a S class written show.

Quick fact. King Ranger's symbol is also the same Kanji in Japanese for King which is Oh(王). And the name Ohranger does mean Kingranger, but it's also a pun on the word Olé as it is the shows main catchphrase.
I wondered about the "Ole" catchphrase.
Because Ohranger or Orenja is pronouced and sounds like Olé in japanese.

The Japanese Zeo Rangers not being able to stay morphed for a long time could have been used to expand why the Zeo Rangers switched to Turbo. The powers were killing them.
It IS a much spoken theory out there. The same way the Gold Ranger's powers were killing Jason and don't forget what the Zeo Crystal did to Zedd!

I have actually met Mr. Yost a few years ago at a Sac-Con convention, and I never really cared about the fact that he was gay. I mean, he was my hero growing up as a kid and I still see him as my favorite Power Ranger even to this day.

had like... three minutes of idle talk/banter, really nice guy. the homosexuality seems so irrelevant in the sense that he's just pleasant to be around.
Ohranger did have to deal with the seran gas attacks in 1995.
That's why the show had to change to being lighthearted when Ohranger was meant to be a callback to 80's sentai.

Actually, Kat did morph into the Pink Zeo Ranger once briefly in the Turbo Movie before they got their Turbo forms. As I recall, she was jumping from atop of a waterfall for some reason and she had to morph to survive the drop.
Yep. She morphed while falling into the water. I hadnt even seen the movie in about 25 years but i remember cuz i just watched the vhs that many times lol.
I definitely have to agree with you about the end of Zeo Rangers. Very anticlimactic. On the bright side, we actually got to see the Rangers broke the ones rather than simply call upon their Zords to fight the giant monster. That was an interesting new twist.

The reason why we got some light-hearted stuff in a series that started out seriously is real-life events. The series premiered on March 3rd, 1995. On March 20, 1995, there was the Tokyo subway sarin attack which was the deadliest terrorist incident in Japan.
This will be addressed in the next video.
Those little teaser mini-episodes really had me hooked as a kid, I remember how big of a deal it was when the command center blew up and we were all trying to figure out what happened in school and on the playground. Well, those of us anyways who hadn't suddenly 'outgrew' Power Rangers and were 'too cool' for it anymore. We were in the 4th grade at the time, and you just hoped that your VCR timer was set up correctly that day to catch the teaser. Between that, and the 'Earth Shattering' teasers for the 3 part Season 2 with Lord Zedd events, that was some serious business in the MMPR/Zeo era.
Yeah I remember those teaser videos/clips. They were really hyping up Zeo so much. And then Turbo comes along and just ruins it.

ohranger, while not being the first to have sentai generational crossover, was the one that cemented the "non-consequencial" worldbuilding that most later season follow, with gokaiger being the clearest example (where, at the same time, goseiger ep 50 finishes in early 2011, gokaiger episode 1 is in late february 2011, but in the middle there were both a goseiger film, the 199heroes battle with relative undefined amounts of days where the various robot got trashed, AND the following 3 years passed to recover them. plus percorrence times)
There could of been a Turbo and Zeo crossover in power rangers. After the torched been passed would of good episode crossover outside of Alien ranger and zeo crossover
Johnny Yong Bosch has reported that in a deleted scene where Tanya and Adam go to save Jason and Kimberly, they lose their Zeo Powers a la Ninja Quest Part 1 but some of it was transferred to a reserve generator to be turned into the Turbo Powers later in the movie. He even posted the only surviving screenshot on FaceBook
These were a great watch and I enjoyed revisiting moments from PR and Sentai era. I would love it if you continue again with the rest of the Zordon era and if possible the future seasons. I know this series was hard to make but it does pay off in the end.

If I remember right, it was stated that Tanya's parents left her with the tribe, and then went missing while they were exploring.

I'm still trying to get caught up on my English sub DVD sets of Super Sentai. Missing Go-Go 5 (Lightspeed Rescue) and TimeRanger (should be obvious which series that is for us). Can hardly wait to be caught up then buy GaoRanger (Wild Force) next

The King Mondo head could’ve been used in the turbo movie to explain why the Rangers had to get the turbo powers. A team up between king Mondo and divatox.

My mother never let me watch Power Rangers video in 1996 but now that Netflix has Power Rangers Zeo I'm able to watch them all even at the age of 36

Tanya actually explained that her parents were explorers when Aisha first met her and the tribe took her in after they disappeared. Zordon also explained that when time was reset after the Zeo Crystal was gathered that their personal histories would change to suit what happened in the past. Hence Tanya’s backstory and surname.
And that was so dumb to me that was lazy writing.

@@PomeloRetro Zeo was a very good season I agree... It was a real advance for the rangers powers and arsenal as well as the machine empire over shadowing Rita and zedd... I just wondered would Billy have been the yellow ranger if he hadn't handed his crystal over .. or would he be still blue.. Tanya only had a skirt as she was a girl.. ( I know it wouldn't have happened as it was Sentai).. but just food for thought.. it just a huge shame Billy never got a chance to be a ranger again..

Cousins getting married is one of those things that isn't quite a taboo in Japan like it is in western culture. Not sure why that is. Then again, it doesn't seem to be a taboo in royal families or the south either for that matter.

Zeo has one of the best songs in my opinion
People can join the military at 17, if they've graduated and have their parent's permission. I was 22 when I joined the USAF, and my squad mates thought I was 17, so they treated me like a kid. There was also an 18-year-old who looked like he was 28.

The Zeo season and Turbo movie were being written at the same time by different teams and they each weren't being told what the other was doing. Jackie Marchand, a writer for Zeo, years later, said in an interview that if they known the plot of the Turbo movie, they would have wrapped things up properly and ended the Zeo powers.
Which is why turbo made no sense
I think in large part the reason ZEO just kind of vanished was because..
When USA Zeo was in production..
Car Robo was going full steam in Japan..
While Zeo was in production..
Turbo a Power Ranger Movie was in full original USA and no reused Japan footage..
We all know how well that did in the Box office..
Also probably explains why Zeo just kind of vanished too..

As someone who also didn't watch this one until adulthood, I loved Zeo, but Ohranger was a treat beyond my expectations. Dairanger is my favorite, but Oh comes at a close second.

Bacchus-fundo is also known as Bacchus Wrath in English translations. That's because in Japanese, Fundo means Wrath.
There are also subtle dog puns with a lot of the Baranoia names, so you could write Bacchus-Fundo as "Bacchus-Hund" which is Old English for Hound (or hunting dog). Hysteria could also be written as "HysTerrier" and Buldont as "Bull'Dont" (Bulldog).
The sentai gets kind of confusing after a while when they continue to introduce ancient or lost civilizations that aren't discovered until the time of the threat.
I like the comic's artwork also love how the villains in that Forever Red were pretty much Beetleborgs @13:50

No it didn't. That's Fiveman you're mistaking. Yes; Ohranger did do poorly on the TV ratings but the toy sales were some of the best they've had. Fiveman did poorly in TV ratings and toy sales and was the series that almost killed Super Sentai if it wasn't for Jetman afterwards.
Gold Ranger in Chouriki Sentai Ohranger was actually a Black Ranger.
Did Power Rangers consider him to be a Gold Ranger because Pyramidas is so golden?
I think it is because of the gold shield parts and the fact that after three years of MMPR having a Black Ranger in the default lineup, calling him "the black ranger" wouldnt carry the gravitas of specialness that sixth rangers tended to have.

After discovering Super Sentai I just can’t get back into the American show for the early seasons. Thank you for these great comparisons.
Normally the first crossover (with the prior series) takes place in the first two thirds of a series. So, the Carranger/Ohranger would take place during the Carranger series, and not the Ohranger series. Meaning that, while it'll be generally canon, it won't necessarily actually fit into canon unless the movie special is referenced in the series episodes.
I watched the Toku Time episodes on Zyuranger to Ohranger which put me off seeing the MMPR-related seasons but Ohranger actually seems interesting to me.
I need to get back to watching Kirameiger & Zero-One now they've returned to TV...

Probably pointed out before but Royal families had that custom of marrying their cousins. so yeah, an alien robot prince from a conqueror empire marrying his robot cousin is probably usual business for them.

Great review. I wish that the show would of adapt the comic book version of Zeo, it would of be better than it is now. I love Zeo but it would at more oomph to the season. The end was anticlimatic though.
How about Masked Rider vs Kamen Rider Black RX and Kamen Rider Dragon Knight vs Kamen Rider Ryuki
Masked Rider was so bad, the creator of Kamen Rider refused to allow the series to be brought to the US ever again. It's actually amazing we got Kamen Rider Dragon Knight at all (although it was MUCH better then the pile of trash that was Masked Rider in the US).

Your assessment that ZEO's ending was confusing, strange, and incomplete. As a Power Rangers fanatic, myself, it seemed like you ended your review of ZEO at season one and did not address season 2 at all. The season ended well with Jason having to give up his powers or basically die. Remember, Jason was the one that took over the Gold Ranger Powers. He has to give the powers back to Trey of Triforia in order to save himself. Trey then enlarges ALL the rangers to fight King Mondo directly. It was one of my most favorite scenes b/c I loved the rangers taking on the villain face to face compared to most other boss battles. Zed & Rita blow up King Mondo after he retreats from the fight along w/ his army on the moon. The season ended well with the teens set up to continue on w/ school and life as normal. Jason had his woman, Emily and Tommy had his, Kat. You did an alright job providing synopsis of Chōriki Sentai Ohranger, but that ZEO breakdown left a lot to be desired.
I think the artillery on the the pink and yellow zords can be used to show why the monster isnt just attacking them during the megazord sequence. they shoot at the monster to keep them away as the assemble.
I'm ready to see his video on Turbo vs the carrangers and then in space vs megaranger and then the lost galaxy vs its super sentai counterpart and so on
I watch both Ohranger and Power Rangers Zeo (in latter, key for literal genie are from MMPR team's Resident Vegan that replaced by the time MMPR rangers got Zeo Powers. I enjoy former better not only the villains levels both NYC and Paris to the ground there)

I know I'm late to the party by quite a few years but I find it deeply ironic that Zyuranger was the magical-focused sentai and Ohranger was a more militaristic focused one and yet the thematics were reversed for the rangers: The MMPR rangers are technology based and the Zeo rangers are more mystical in power.

Definitely not. I've had to temporarily put the channel on hold as I deal with some personal issues and my job. But the next two have been scripted and started filming - but I couldn't tell you when they'll be done.
