Great job posting this video. I wish we would have found it 3 weeks ago. Same thing happened to my son and my husband. They just figured it out. And they were debating whether to buy a brand new plate or not. I found this video and showed it to them. We're laughing because you guys are them😅
Like you I had to remove my FB25 engine twice due to misaligned Reluctor plate. Wish I had seen your video earlier! But, it confirmed my suspicion. Mine was only off by one bolt hole. Once aligned properly, my rebuilt engine started immediately! Thanks for posting.
Ryder Ryder, Did you remove the reluctor plat, and are you certain that you put the reluctor plate back in the identical position? The small hole in the reluctor plate needs to match the pin on the block. Remember the reluctor plate will fit even if it’s not in the correct position.
Crazy thing is I’m having this issue now. Replaced the clutch put it back together and drove it like 1 mile and it started to wanna stall after i got it home it wouldn’t start at all had dealer look at it and couldn’t think of anything, all sensors were tested compression was tested and now they tell me I need to check this plate but I’m thinking after I installed the new clutch that if this was installed wrong I wouldn’t have even made it a mile right?
@@ThatguySchwifty depending on the position you placed it in I would imagine it could drive a little, in other cases it would probably barely start. Unless you specifically remember placing the reluctor plate in the correct position, I’m certain this is your issue. Remember it will fit in there in many positions but only 1 position is correct
I replaced my clutch and I'm fairly positive i installed that correctly. But after I put the car back together the car wouldn't start. The car would attempt to start but wouldn't fire up and would backfire occasionally after trying to start for so long. Is that the same thing you guys experienced? I've talked to multiple people and all i can get as an answer is to check the connections but im 100% i've connected all the connections.
@@ohitskej yeah so, i knew what the issue was at the end of the day but it meant I needed to take the whole thing apart. Behind the fly wheel there is the timing plate. I did not put it back correctly. I thought it was just like a dust shield or something but there is a little hole on the plate that matches with a dimple on the engine. I don't know the exact terminology for everything but the plate needs to go back exact or the car wont know the correct timing.
@@Ryder-636 yeah i figured that was it. i had installed the motor on my wrx and everything. went to start it after building oil pressure and all it did was crank and would backfire occasionally … and i was super confused until i stumbled across this video. so i took it out and put that back in the correct place and now all i have to do is put it back in the car. pain in the ass if you ask me😞. thanks for confirming my suspicion!
So I am pretty sure I installed mine correctly. Car is not starting and giving p0335 error code. I suppose it could of moved slightly when I was installing the pressure plate or maybe the connector got loose.
I have the exact same issue. I could have sworn I put it on correctly but after hearing your symptoms here, I'm thinking I may have to pull it again. Did you guys have any kick the 2nd time? Mine wouks crank and occasionally backfire but never started.
Did your car throw any codes for timing while the plate was 180 degrees off? I strongly suspect this is the issue with my fb25. timing marks all perfect but its giving me p0335 p0340 and p0345 codes.
I don’t recall if it threw a code but it was misfiring badly. The one thing I can say for certain is if you do not remember lining up the reluctor plate with the marked pin then it is most likely not in the correct position. There is a hole in the reluctor plate that will line up with the pin. Hope this helps
I have a issue car runs fine and normal until I start to build up boost and it has a random misfire I recently changed the clutch. But when it misfire it doesn’t throw a code each time it only threw a code twice.
Did you figure out your misfire issues? With my sons WRX, because we had installed the reluctor plate in the wrong position, it misfired just as soon as we started the vehicle. Do you recall if you removed the Reluctor plate?
I have a question I changed my clutch on my 2017 wrx after When I was done wouldn’t start I got a code saying crankshaft position sensor a Circuit couldn’t find it were would it be?
The crankshaft position sensor is at the top of your transmission just underneath your intercooler. However, if you just replaced your clutch and did not place the reluctor plate in the correct position this would be the problem. The only way to fix this is to take the clutch out and be certain that the reluctor plate is in the correct position. There is a pin on your block and the small hole in your reluctor plate should match up with that. This was the mistake we made 😠
I am not certain but i would say that this would be likely. If you removed your reluctor wheel when working on your vehicle and do not remember lining up the hole in the wheel with the round protrusion on the block then it is likely in the wrong position. Since the reluctor wheel sets timing for your engine if it is not in exact position your timing will be off. In our case the engine started but ran extremely rough, not drivable.
hey man, this happened to my brz and when i first dropped the transmission, it would crank but not start. so i dropped the trans again and fixed the plate just like you did. it started up this time! but now its idling terribly, the car wont move, if i try to gas the pedal it just wants to stall. any help would be appreciated
Are you certain that the plate is in the precise position? It will fit In there 8 different ways. However the small hole on the plate must match the small nodule on the engine block. Hope you get this figured out!
Do I have to open up the transmission either way or not? I was trying to replace mine but couldn’t find it. Is there a way for me to not open the trans and just take off the inner cooler ?
@@avantehoward6478 The sensor is right at the top of the transmission, just remove the intercooler to access it. If you need anything else let me know.
I recently installed a new clutch and flywheel car runs and drives fine til I go past 4800-5200 it will randomly misfire and I get a feeling could be the reluctor
It’s possible that is your problem however with my sons WRX misfired immediately. Do you recall removing your reluctor plate, and replacing it in the proper position? If it is one notch off it may not affect it until higher RPMs as it’s happening with yours.
@@lucasgarzajr.6549 we didn’t touch the reluctor but bought the car used and the clutch was replaced before by the previous owner with a cheap ebay clutch so I went back to stock...
Thanks for your post I ended up replacing the reluctor plate and mines was bent about 1/8 of a inch and that’s why my car ran fine till at higher rpm’s..... you guys rock....
Backfired badly and not really drivable. Depending on what incorrect position the reluctor plate is placed, I would imagine that engine timing can be slightly off or timing can be way off and not even drivable. When you reinstall the reluctor plate there is only one correct position, did you line up the hole in the plate with the pin? If you didnt notice how these align there is a 90 percent chance that it was not lined up properly. I hope this helps…
Fredy Torres you can access the crankshaft sensor from above the transmission. In this situation we had to replace the clutch and we installed it incorrectly the first time. That’s when we realized that the reluctor plate has to be in a specific position to maintain the timing of the engine. This is why we had to remove the transmission. Of course if it’s your sensor that’s bad you won’t need to remove the transmission.
Okay I’m having trouble i thought the crankshaft sensor position was under the radiator near the pulley for a Subaru wrx 2015 so it’s above the transmission and thanks so much for your help
