HOW TO FIX A GARAGE REMOTE

this is a work around solution to fix a garage remote. my garage remote light stays on i.e its is active as soon at the battery is put in.
came up with the idea to save me $215 to replace the remote and get it coded by a technician. give it a shot . my explanation is not very good in the video, any questions please feel free to ask.

Good video!!👍 I have a similar remote, and while I don't notice the light turning on like yours, my A-23 battery seems to die out after only several months. Could it be a similar situation ( gunk build up) causing this problem??!!

You should use multimeter and find if some of switch is broken (giving short cut) and simply remove or change it. This is usual issue of this kind of remote controls

the switches are 99.99 % not broken ... the water got inside them and made the continuous contact ... on my remote i opened the buttons and cleaned them in interior :) ...

What brand of the remote? I got the same remote control and thinking of buying new one. It was $80 for the replacement key mob.

thats expensive, you can get one for $10-15 try ebay. just keep in mind that you have to code the new remote to the transmitter on the garage door. if it is a shared garage its really hard to code if its only you using the garage then it should be relatively easy.

bittersweet hi there, that sounds like a coding issue. What it means that the remote is working but it needs to be programmed to the main receiver on the garage door. Hope that helps.

Cleaning is a good advice. But if it does not solve the problem, the paper clip application is not the permanent solution. If you have more than one button programmed it will not work. Have to find the root cause of the problem. My case: opener was in the washing machine. After that it continuously transmitting, in my case it produced blinking led. It means the battery depleted within couple hours.
1) Tried clean the board with Isopropil alcohol and tooth brush. It did not worked, symptom is the same, blinking led.
2) Put the board into a cup and covered with Isopropil alcohol, about 5mm height, the alcohol almost covered the micro switches. Soaked it and rinsed couple times within a 15 minutes of soaking period. After that I left it be dry on the sun for a 15 minutes. It worked, the transmiter is good again. Time will tell how good it is, I expect to drain the battery much faster than in normal case. We will see.
3) If non of the above works than you should go deeper. In my case the opener has an HCS301 chip. This chip is sensing the button presses and do the coding and producing PWM signal to be transmitted. If the led is blinking - continuous transmission - it means one of the input pins - pin 1,2,3,4 - senses a button press even if none of the buttons are pressed. If you measure it with a volt meter than you should see not ground but VCC on one or more of the input pins of the IC. It is because of invalid conductance between pins due to the washing liquid. If fisrst or second cleaning is no help you should desolder the IC and the other components in order to be able to clean the board completely. This board is a relatively simple board, it could be repaired fully after a washing machine accident. Please note the mobil phone is a different animal, with much more complex board. Washing it will definitley destroy the board even if you soaking it for days in alcohol. Good luck for the remote repairs!
