I love your reviews! You cover what the book is about, show off some art and let us know if it's a must have or just a good read. I've purchased many books due to your recommendations and I'm never left disappointed. You have great taste and I look forward to your videos even though they tend to influence me to spend more money 😁 keep it up brother!!! Thanks for the awesome content!!

One of the best books I own. The series is incredible and Jeff Lemire is possibly my favourite writer. Can't wait for the next Library Editions!

I love this library edition so much. No clue how people can criticize anything about the art haha. I met Lemire last year at BCC and he sketched colonel weird inside. Great guy! Can’t wait for the next volumes

That is awesome! I had a similar experience with Matt Kindt, he doodled in a bunch of my hardcovers as well! Different strokes for different folks I guess when it comes to artwork, there are a ton of artists I can't stand that some folks swear by - but I loved the art, its quirky, different, and worked perfectly for the story!

Hey Mike! I've just recently been looking a bit into this series. Glad u reviewed it. I like reviews that are just that-- reviews! Too often I'll want to read or check out a review here on TH-cam & get more of a book report or summary that is basically just a detailed recap that goes way too deep into describing nearly everything that happens in the book-- including major plot points & spoilers-- & that's pretty much it(and the person stating whether they liked it or not).smh😑 What I want from a review is the following: a general synopsis(maybe a bit more than what u'd get from the back cover of the book, but nothing even close to a detailed breakdown of the story & spoilers); a list of the content included(such as issues collected, introduction, forward, afterward, sketchbook[s], character profiles, script[s], process[thumbnails or breakdowns-to-pencils-to-inks, etc], & bonus features[including a brief description of said bonus features]-- if any of these things listed above exist); a rundown/description of the book's dimensions, page count, & overall physical aspects/qualities(a description of the material that makes up the cover, the quality/sturdyness of the spine/binding[sewn, glued, or both], page type/quality[newspaper, matte, glossy, etc + thickness of pages], etc); plus a look at the exterior & interior of the book(enough to get a good visual idea of what u'd be getting). Basically, a review very much like the one u give here!😉👍🏻 Series looks & sounds very cool! I've heard some comparisons to "B.P.R.D.". Do u find any parallels or similarities between the two? If so, any in particular? Also, I know u said the series is "dark". I know that "Hellboy" & some of the other Mignolaverse titles can have a "dark" tone; but they still have some humor-- be it typical dialogue-style humor, situational humor, &/or humor via their elements of straight-up quirkiness, lol. Is there any humor to be found-- of any kind-- in "Black Hammer", or is it pretty much all more on the dark/grim/gloomy side? And finally, would u say the superhero aspect here is more Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, modern, or a mix of all of the above? Thanx for another great video, Mike! Always much appreciated! 😎👌🏻
P.S. I've just started getting into the Mignolaverse recently(except for the "Hellboy", "Hellboy & the B.P.R.D.", & "Witchfinder" titles anyway-- all of which I have read &/or bought all of their Lib. Eds., OGNs, Omnis, &/or trades as they came out)w/the "B.P.R.D": Plague of Frogs" Omnis v.1-4 & am absolutely LOVING it! Don't know why I took so long to branch out?!?🤔 What an idiot!!!😡 Hope the rest of the Omnis & trades aren't/don't go oop before I can get them, & that I haven't missed the boat.😞 Really don't wanna have to track down any volumes & end up paying a ridiculous amount for them.😒 But I just wanted to say there's another couple of series w/what I'd call rich "worlds" to dive into(not sure either title would be considered as belonging to a "universe", as only one of the two series has any spin-off/branched-out titles)... if u have the time, money, & desire to, lol. Speaking for myself, anyways, while I'm loving the B.P.R.D. series & look forward to mining the rest of the titles in the Mignolaverse as well, I feel a overwhelmed by it all. It's A LOT to take in; especially if ur reading other titles, too. Still, I thought I'd throw these two titles out(u may have already read them or know of them & they don't interest u at all, lol):
1)Baltimore > a fantastically dark & eerie, somewhat-steampunk, alternate history, action/adventure, horror series that is dripping with gothic atmosphere, loaded with various beautifully strange & creepy locales, & full of all sorts of wicked, weird, creepy monsters[especially vampires]& of course the title character, badass Lord Baltimore-- vampire hunter and, at times reluctant, all-around monster slayer[often w/the help of others-- very interesting & fun characters in their own right-- particularly in the later volumes]! Although co-written written by Mike Mignola[w/Christopher Golden], it is not part of the Mignolaverse, rather maintaining its own world, mythos, & history instead! It is collected in 8 HC vols.[I believe some are out of print]or 2 HC Omnis[v.1 is currently available & v.2 is set to release on 03/18 & will include a new story drawn by Ben Stenbeck].
2)The Sixth Gun > a true "weird-western"! Cullen Bunn & Brian Hurtt draw u in to their epic story(and it is EPIC) with a perfect genre blending of western & weird/strange supernatural horror & fantasy-- which they accomplish by delivering a multifaceted, veritable banquet of world-building steeped in rich folklore & mythology(some "true", some completely made-up, & some a cooked-up gumbo mixing the two in new, flavorful ways)& interesting, intriguing, fully-developed characters that spring to life off of the page! The series also pulls from other genres like action/adventure, drama, & comedy, while delving into Civil War-era life & history/historical fiction. It is one of the most unique, fun stories I've ever read! The main series was 9 trades & there were 4 spin-off miniseries collected in 3 trades. Then there are the Dlx OHC Eds., which was comprised of 6 volumes that contained all the trades + loads of bonus material! Highly recommended! Oh, there is a new series that follows this one called "Shadow Roads" which I have yet to read. Sorry for such a long comment.

Chewy 16 You, sir, have excellent taste! I’m a huuuuuuuuge fan of the Mignolaverse, and I regret the day I had to sell my Abe Sapien and BPRD hardcovers, but life has its priorities
Black hammer has its humorous moments, and there’s a consistent always a teasing spark of hope, so it’s not ALL doom and gloom. Things get weird! Don’t want to spoil much!
Matt and I have told Cullen Bunn many many times at cons that Sixth Gun is an incredible book. I know at one point Matt had all the hardcovers, had them signed and sketched in. He’s a big big fan of the title and the the Cullen Bunn/Brian Hurtt creative team!
Never apologize my friend, we love your comments!

@@TheHardcoverComic Thanx, Mike-- for all that u stated here! I appreciate u guys taking the time to read my comments & respond to them! U are always very informative, as well as being encouraging, understanding, & just overall very cool guys! When I am manic(especially if I'm really into something)I know I can go on for quite a bit sometimes & it can, understandably, get on some people's nerves(when I go on talking very long, my big brother, God bless him, refers to it as "yapping", lol🙄). So again, thanx for the patience, acceptance, & encouragement! Ur awesome! As I've seen in ur last video where u showed ur collection, u have excellent taste, as well! Thanx for the info on "Black Hammer". It sounds & looks very cool! I'm jealous u guys have met Cullen Bunn, lol. That's awesome! And believe me, I know about having to sell ur trades, HCs, etc due to priorities. I've sold so many to pay for things like medicine, I couldn't begin to count them all, lol. Thanx again! 😊❤👍🏻

I read 2 or 3 issues from local library copy, then immediately bought the library edition volume 1. Looking forward to the coming ones. But The World of Black Hammer charges $50 for just 256 pages (other are same price with over 400 pages), seems a cash grab. Have to get it anyway for completeness.
Lemire became one of my favorite writers/artists. I like almost everything from him that I read, from Essex County, Sweet Tooth, Descender, to Trillium, with the only exception of Roughneck.

I love anything by Jeff Lemire. Love fellow Canadians. In regards to the JLA crossover, another TH-camr mentioned that they couldn't see that ever seeing light of day in a Library Edition. I agree unless DC has a massive change in policy I can't see them letting Dark Horse publish any of their IP making them money but not DC. The Doctor Star material has been changed to Doctor Andromeda now due to some sort of copyright issue. As for Lemire or Ormston's art style....I used to go to Art College back in the day and believe me I've seen worse. To me as long as I can differentiate the characters and understand the story I'm good. I happen to like this style because it's kind of simple. I feel like Lemire creates these new worlds for established characters to tell stories that he maybe can't on mainline characters. Like Black Hammer is basically Justice League for Dark Horse or Bloodshot was Wolverine at Valiant. Either Way I'm excited for these 2 new LE's and more coming from this world.

    • @TheHardcoverComic
      @TheHardcoverComic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I agree, seeing the crossover in LE likely won’t happen. Hopefully Lemire keeps cranking out new minis, I’m in love with this universe!

I just read the first book, I don’t see what’s so great about it, it’s just another super hero deconstruction book. Nothing really new being done, maybe it gets better in the other books? I just don’t see how anyone can say this is a perfect comic as reviews on the back say.

    • @francoisdemorcy5084

      Agree
Read Sweet Tooth and it was dark and hard but not all that. Art was meh. They kept saying it was great. Another Walking Dead type book. Deconstruction of superheros are all over the place. Watchmen, Authority, Ultimates,The Boys etc

    • @fishin4bass2002

@@francoisdemorcy5084 I find it how offended people get when I criticize a comic book or writer. I feel like a lot of comic writers are just writers who weren’t good enough to write books. Comics a lot of times is just a dumbed down medium and some people can’t accept that because they feel it means their dumb.

Fully disagree. The art work fits for the style of the world they were going for to set the tone of the series. Pretty detailed in shading and very colorful imo
