on some devices youtube has extremely dark and discolored "HDR", extremely crushed blacks and like brightness is reduced by 35% even though HDR is supposed to be bright with high contrast(that still has good visibility, rich deep gradients that look good and pop while also all being clear), i think my phone may have faux HDR, it was 600$ so i expected legit but oh well. either that, or it is legit HDR, but some phones have dumb filtering on top of legit HDR and whoever designed these filters has very bad taste and no idea of good calibration. wish phones had more manual display controls!
This is TH-cam, which means hundreds of thousands of people are watching your content on their phone. Please upload non-HDR options also, because smartphone HDR is absolute ass. Everything in this video is dull and dim, even on an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
That final scene involving the distortion between Anakin and Vader's voices is truly one of the best scenes in Star Wars. I think we always saw them as like separate people but here we see that they really are the same person. Also the red and blue lighting is symbolic between Anakin and Vader.
Someone put the Japanese dub up and it still goes as hard as the English one what I find funny about that Is obi wan shares the same voice actor as minato from naruto and vaders va is momoshiki from boruto dude cannot catch a break always running the fade with that family 😂
In a way Vader kinda gave Obi-Wan a sense of peace in saying *”You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker. I did.”* Signifying Anakin did it to himself and that it wasn’t Kenobi’s fault. Obi-Wan may never forgive himself for what happened to Anakin, but it’s kinda cool to think that a little bit of Anakin was still left and was trying to comfort Obi-Wan in admitting he wasn’t to blame for his failure.
@@spicytea735 I don't think that's a crazy take. You could argue that the personalities of Anakin and Darth were conflicting, and it's represented by their voices distorting into one another. It's suffice to say Anakin is unstable, so it's reasonable to interpret the scene that way. Whatever's left of Anakin knows that he did this to himself. We don't really see the good in Anakin again until he saves Luke.
“Darth Vader betrayed and murdered your father so what I told you was true from a certain point of view” Obi wans last line to Vader acknowledged anakin was in a way dead when he says “goodbye darth”
After watching it a few times I also love the ship Vader comes from, we’ve seen it so many times in the original movies etc , but this just looks more organic and dark etc, strange characters moving in the background
@@Spiralreddthe thing that moves me is that anakin comes forth and says ‘I’m not your failing , obi wan you didn’t kill anakin skywalker’ then the dark side takes control and says’ I did ‘ it’s almost as if the real anakin wax reaching out to him before the bad anakin/ darth took over again.
I think his eyes just a part of it. It’s anakin whole ass face , he feels extreme guilt for what he did to anakin he indirectly caused anakin to burn alive, and he saw the after math with the eyes aswell
Obi Wan is horrified on how far Anakin has fallen to the dark side and has carried that guilt of failing Anakin in his time of need. The dark side has corrupted Anakin/Vader a lot. You see the yellow eye. Pure anger, rage, and hatred.
The scene where we see Vader unmasked really captures how intensely tragic his suffering is. He might be menacing and terrifying on the outside, but inside he is a broken man. He’s witnessed his loved ones either disappear or walk away from him and now he’s a prisoner to his own rage about those losses whilst Sidious just toys around with him like a puppet
I think that's the real reason he wanted Obi wan to continue fighting and was so enraged when he left. Vader knew that in his wounded and exhausted state and with his damaged respirator he was unlikely to win against him. In that moment he just wanted it to be over with, he was threatening and screaming at him because he wanted Obi to finish him.
"I'm not your failure Obi Wan. You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker. I did" The last ember of goodness of Anakin trying to scream out from within the darkness 'it was my fault' and that he says it while bathed in the blue of Obi Wan's lightsaber over his for that instant is very apt.
That's my favorite part of this whole scene. And it's amazing how some people miss the obvious symbolism in this scene during that part of it and think that it wasn't the Anakin who Obi-Wan knew resurfacing and breaking through, however briefly, and think it was "just" Darth Vader taunting Obi-Wan. At absolute worst it was a mix of the conflicting "personalities" between Anakin and Darth Vader.
@@DeltaKnight Not really. It wasn't "regret" or "selfreflection" but pure "hatred" and "pride" which becomes clear with the last thing he says. All he's saying here is that he's not Anakin anymore and that he has chosen to be like this and is not this poor and failed version of Anakin that needs pity, he is something better now. Better than both Anakin and Obiwan. He is the same here as he was on Mustafar just more hateful but in the beginning of the conversation Obiwan had hope to reach Anakin after seeing his face, and you can see the hope slipping away in the end when he realizes that there is no Anakin left in him anymore
He is not very powerful really. He is often ragdolled by Dooku during their fights because it is so easy for him to break through Obi Wans force defences.
@@doomsterr oh look a casual. It’s been widely agreed that Obi Wan is one of, if not the best, defensive lightsaber duelists of all time. He is also hyperintelligent, level-headed and an adept force user. Dooku just happens to be an equally great force user who is powered by the dark side.
@@hughjass42069 He is the best defensive duelist actually. Dooku though has the perfect counter called Form II Makashi. Not to mention Dooku is far more powerful in the force and far more intelligent. Kenobi has an IQ of 145 while Dooku has an IQ of 165 which is equal to Anakin. Kenobi is not even close to as proficient in the force as Dooku was. The dark side only served to boost himself in combat. Im a casual eh? Judging before knowing is offensive you know.
@@doomsterr I’m assuming you’re discussing Legends, because essentially nothing you said has support in canon. For one, the concept of passive Force defenses is not really present in canon. Every time duelists are shown resisting Force attacks, they do so with an active gesture. Dooku has only successfully affected Kenobi twice with the Force in canon, both on the Invisible Hand. One minor Force push and then the choke/throw (which was potentially assisted by Palpatine). Kenobi didn’t try to block either of these. In Clone Wars, he was able to successfully block a Force push from Dooku. There is nothing in canon or Legends that implies Form II to be a counter to Form III. By ROTS, Dooku was already seemingly unable to defeat Kenobi in sabers and needed to resort to catching him off-guard with the Force. And, in terms of dueling feats, the two are comparable by ROTS to say the least. Source of that IQ claim? I’d be shocked if it was canon and wonder what Legends source would even establish something like IQ numbers for characters. Regardless, Obi-Wan has overall better tactical showings IMO. By ROTS, Kenobi was a rough equal to Anakin in the Force in canon, putting him on at least the same tier as Dooku. By the point of the second half of the duel in this video, Obi-Wan should be solidly above Dooku in the Force judging from his showing against a superior Force user in Vader. Once Obi-Wan let’s go of his guilt and regret and instead focused on protecting the kids, he was able to throw Vader around, shake off Vader’s hold on his saber, and launch a barrage of boulders that Vader was stated to be unable to stop. At this point in his life, Vader’s Force feats should surpass Dooku by quite a margin. Obi-Wan beats Dooku 5-6/10 in ROTS Obi-Wan beats Dooku 8-9/10 by the Kenobi finale
One of the biggest reasons obi wan won here is because he calmed down and focused. Before he was just getting dominated the whole fight. Once he was focused though, Vader started losing since he was blinded by his own rage and emotion. But another aspect of why obi wan can go toe to toe with Vader is cause he fucking trained him. He knows anakin’s fighting style inside and out. Vaders style is the same just slower and more powerful. So many people forget that. Edit: I also wanna add the fact that Vader lost this fight here since he was too conflicted and unable to focus his rage. Palpatine confirms this when he suggests that maybe his feelings for his old master left him weakened. This Vader is not the cold and calculated one from the original trilogy. People forget the emotional element of the fight and just look at everything from a surface level point of view. Kenobi is by no means more powerful than Vader. He was able to finally let go that Anakin was gone at this point and it wasn’t entirely his fault. Meanwhile Vader couldn’t let go of his feelings and hatred toward Kenobi. He literally addresses him as “Master”. Vaders conflicted emotions costed him the fight as well as the advantages that I stated earlier.
With this scene, the dialogue between Obi-Wan and Luke Skywalker in the chapter IV makes sense. Obi-Wan always saw Darth Vader and Anakin as two separated beings, and when he told Luke that Vader had killed his father Anakin, he was just repeating Vader's words. I don’t like the insistence of screenwriters about filling the gaps in the storyline but this scene is one of the most accomplished moments of Star Wars.
Honestly, I think all of us had a hard time thinking of Anakin and Vader as the same person until this scene. We knew it was the same person from a story standpoint, but could not think of the person behind the mask as Anakin until now. The creators did an excellent job here!
@@jk22222sd right. I loved it so much. And it made me so sad. That's the first time I cried from anything since I watched Marley and me when I was 16 lol
@@flinchyecho2135 Yeah, I definitely understand! I felt this last episode provided a closure between Anakin and Obi Wan that I never thought I needed from Revenge of the Sith to A New Hope.
I believe at the end, when Vader shouts after obi wan, there’s a small part in Vader, that actually wanted obi wan to kill him this time, so that his suffering would have an end…
Agreed. You can really break it down further by some of his word choices when he speaks to those Anakin cared for. "Have you come to destroy me, Obi Wan?" He even sounds a bit conflicted saying this. And then when he fought Ashoka. He's even convincing her to join him, just like with Luke.
People hating the show are just ridiculous. Ya sure- the leia parts could have been done better and same with Reva, but at it's core, it was the arc the star wars community was gifted to have!
I feel that the show overall is alright, it's got a few hiccups here and there but ultimately it's not bad. This scene alone however makes the entire show worth watching
I came here to pay my respects to James Earl Jones. He was the perfect voice for Darth Vader. Even though Hayden is under the mask, Jones was the voice. RIP James Earl Jones and may the Force be with you. ❤
Peak Star Wars. When Obi/Wan goes for the control plate.. the breathing, the mask, the 2 voices, obi/wan’s tears, perfection. Lackluster show for this awesome scene was absolutely worth it.
I agree. Everyone shits on this show so much, and it's not entirely without reason, but there are some great moments. Cut out all the BS, streamline it, just keep the important story beats, and you could probably condense it down into a real solid film.
@@Puzzles-PinsIt's more so bc of Disney's reputation, but this is one case of them doing it right. Very rare, but just goes to show what they can do when they actually care bc this scene is fucking amazing.
Star Wars has been a mess lately, but this series with all its flaws, really is the best work Disney has done in the Star Wars Universe. At the end of the series, Obi-wan was able to finally let go of his guilt for Anakin’s fall to the dark side. And Anakin let go of his blind hatred of Obi-wan for defeating him on Mustafar, and fully embraced becoming Darth Vader.
When he said "You didn't kill Anakin. I did" that's actually a trauma response. In Revenge of the Sith Palpatine led him to believe that he killed his pregnant wife. So he has the trauma of not only killing his comrades, but also thinking he killed his wife, and his unborn child. And so, he has the "Darth Vader" persona to distance himself from those actions. And so, in his superego, he uses the identity of Vader 'controlling' him as a way to come to terms with the trauma of the war, and how he assumes that he killed his wife and unborn child.
I came here to rewatch this after hearing that James Earl Jones passed away today, September 9, 2024 at the age of 93. I feel it's a fitting way to say farewell to him by watching his last portrayal of the character. May he Rest in Peace.
Possibly his best portrayal of the character as well. It seemed as though he was trying to bridge the gap of Anakin and Vader by speaking in a cadence similar to Hayden’s at times. I could be looking to deep into it, but at times his delivery felt like Hayden’s somehow.
The way Vader’s eyes light up a little more and curls a smile when he said “…I did” was one of those little details that make the whole scene. It killed Obi-Wan inside, and any hope of redemption ended. Hence why he calls him Darth.
Every time I rewatch this, the emotion of ewan and Hayden is just spot on even when Hayden as Vader says”you didn’t kill anakin skywalker.. I did” damn that hits so hard
I loved his boyish acting in revenge of the sith and attack of the clones. Keep in mind he was taught to keep his emotions inside. Now he's given a reason to feel his emotions and he doesn't know how so this awkward acting is what happens
He wanted him to kill him here. End his suffering. Instead he had to return to his new master defeated and bring the news that obi wan had beat him again
This writing is so good, I love how Darth doesn't blame Obi-wan for him turning to the darkside and takes full responsibility for his actions. Freeing Obi-wan from that pain so he can finally let go of his old friend. I'm not gonna lie I watched this 100 times and I cry every time!
for real. I always get goosebumps. Ewan delivered a master performance with his eyes full of tears and barely being able to speak as he apologizes. Once he says "then my friend is truly gone" he accepts that reality. Follow by "good-bye, Darth"... Shit is heavy for old and new fans of the franchise.
@anthonymonterosso7472 a lot of context to those two fights. I think head to head with everything on the line obi wan finds a way to outlast him. He has the MJ quality in big spots
@@anthonymonterosso7472 Doku was and always be a mistery , they made him way to strong that its ridiculous… Bro handled obiwan and anakin in the same time and toyed with yoda after that ??? Naaaaah Just for him to get 1v1 by the same anakin few years later, smh
This scene finally bridges the gap between OT Obi-Wan and prequel era Obi-Wan. In the old canon, Obi-Wan went from screaming through tears at his fallen friend to Mr. "From a Certain Point of View" entirely offscreen, implying he just coped with losing his friend that way, and that always felt weirdly bitter for a character established in all the follow-up material as so deeply kind (literally held Maul as he died.) Now, it's been flipped - Obi-Wan continued to feel lingering guilt and sadness until he came face to face with an Anakin so bitter and spiteful that he explicitly told Obi-Wan to save his empathy - instead he should consider Anakin dead, because the reverse was certainly true. Even if Anakin's bitter winging would ultimately hold untrue in the end, it's no longer just about a bitter old man lying to himself (and to Luke) - it now makes perfect sense why Obi-Wan would walk away with such a sad, callous perspective. I also gotta mention I really hate the constant framing of the scene as some secretly compassionate gesture from Anakin releasing Obi-Wan from his guilt or whatever. This scene is basically Anakin's version of Kylo Ren shattering his mask; doubling down on his villainy out of spite. This is a bitter, broken man receiving completely unconditional empathy from the only person left in the entire galaxy who still cares about him - and spitting it back in his face. "I'm not your responsibility, I'm not your friend, keep your empathy and let's fucking kill each other already." It's deeply fucked up in a way that feels so painfully real; capturing the childish, spiteful, miserable rage that, yknow, motivates people to push away all their loved ones and go murder civilians instead. Never forget that the persona of "Darth Vader" is just Anakin's mask to make his miserable life look cool and imposing.
God, it's not subtle. Jesus, people are so insufferably stupid. It's plainly obvious symbolism. Jesus Christ, if people weren't so impressed by their own basic self awareness, they wouldn't be so easily entertained by horse shit. This is an amazing scene for so many reasons, but YOU did not notice this "subtilty" Professor IMbd of Theatrical Study. It's intentional, in your face symbolism. The damn near entire screen turns blue to red. Grow a goddamn brain and settle down.
@@arcturus4295dude thank you so much. It's actually sickening. Makes you wanna vomit. You gotta realize this is 90% of the population. Mfs call it "subtilty". They're drooling, like it's the fckin artwork of the century. Couldn't be more obvious, intentionally situated, basic 101 symbolism. Like c'mon. But nah. Everybody's an intellectual. Look at him guys.
In this case the substance is power. At first Anakin just wanted to save his wife but once she died he used it to numb the pain. And he got addicted to it. Which is what palpatine wanted.
That scream at the end...It's harder than Maul could ever scream. Because Maul doesn't know Obi Wan like Anakin did: On a deeply personal level. He hates only 3 things in the galaxy: His master; Darth Sidious. For ensnaring him in his trap and making him his pawn. His old master; Obi Wan. For seemingly turning his wife against him and causing him to cook to medium well and having to wear the suit because of it. But most of all; Himself. If you've ever struggled with depression, you know what I mean when I say "Darth Vader level depression". You want to die. Every day you want to either die or kill. Just to bury the utter emotional and mental agony of just being alive. You have tried to end it. Vader tried. Multiple times. But the Dark Side kept him alive (in his eyes) as some sick joke. But you can't die. However, you can't live either. You're in a walking coffin. Upright, and forced to go on living. That scream at the end is not of a man...It's of a former man that's been reduced to an animal. Now a wounded and defeated animal. That can only snarl and shriek, despite knowing that it's been beaten. That's all, thanks for letting me ramble.
When Obi Wan says “Then my friend is truly dead.”’I can only think of when Luke says almost the exact same thing a decade later. Obi Wan wanted so much to redeem Anakin, but that was never his destiny.
The only critique i could give this fight/verbal exchange would be, when Anakin says “you didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker, I did” that last part, the “I did”, should’ve been Vader’s (Jones) voice.
This scene made me cry so much, I used to blame myself for things that were not truly my fault with someone I knew that hurt me badly, when in reality it never was my fault nor my responsibility on how they turned out. In Obi Wan's case, he did have some fault on certain things with anakin, but in the end, the real fault of anakin's actions falls on himself. Obi Wan tried his best to make it up to Ani, but ani decided to just self sabotage and continue the cycle of self destruction. Anakin was the one who made his choice as an adult to act on his own egocentric feelings, while hurting and destroying the order and everyone whether they were innocent or not of amy crime. He became far worse than what he ever wanted to be, he became his own worse enemy.
The little half smile he has when speaking to him at the end with the red eye and all of the scarring. Fuckin chilllllls. How much of himself he had to let go and kill so he could only be the ruthless machine everyone knows and fears. All of the emotions Obi remembers and tries to ignore while seeing what’s left of his student and friend. This shit was amazing
10 years lader, after Anakin turned to the dark side. Killed younglings, slaughter alot of innocent lives, obi wan got to duel with him one last time. And to tell him truthfully hes sorry for making him his way. Oh my gosh this. This is one of the most anticipated scenes after episode 3, the thought, the emotional feeling of brotherhood gone. Truley i couldnt even breathe seeing this. Such an amazing scene. Will never lose this emotion.
I can't believe how good this is - this is what the fight at the end of Revenge of the Sith should have been like - no silly choreography, but instead wild passionate fighting. Except it's a bit silly that he's like "Right, this time I'm really going to save civilization and do away with him" and 10 minutes later "Yay - I'm the only person in the galaxy who can defeat Darth Vader - now I'll just wander off and let him do untold harm to said galaxy"
@@HenryMcGuinnessGuitar the fight at the end of revenge of the sith wasnt silly choreography, it was esentially 2 jedi masters, (i know anakin wasnt offically a master) but 2 masters who knew eachothers fighting technique better than anybody else. Anakins being overly aggressive and obiwan being overly defensive. The perfect dance between life and death with the environment around them ensuring only one made it out alive. And in the very end. The very reason anakin wasnt a master is why he lost to kenobi. Arrogance. And this fight shows how both have matured. And really gives a heartbreaking look at darth vaders internal conflict. Because i believe at the end of this fight, a small part of vader just wanted kenobi to kill him.
@@declannewton2556 It's an opinion...and as you can see brainless...no one is interested in purchasing your bridge. You are more than welcome to jump off of it though...
@@HenryMcGuinnessGuitarI think It's that way because Vader was practically defeated, and vengance is not the Jedi way, If Obi wan had killed Vader would be like falling into dark side as well.
This shows why there were scars on his head when Luke unmasked him and how Obi-Wan winded up calling Darth Vader “Darth”, since he knew that Anakin was gone, at least until he came back to his senses and destroyed the Sith by throwing the Emperor down the second Death Star’s main reactor shaft.
Vader is the true emobidment of self hatred and depression. A walking corpse encased in walking coffin causing extreme excruciating pain and forced by the darkside and the emporer to be their pawn. Imagine wanting to die so bad and death runs away from you no matter how much you seek it. To be tormented day and night about your past only to be filled with extreme anger and self hatred.
That's why palpatine wanted to keep him alive. He knew he deep down wanted to die after that fight so he made it to where he literally couldn't unless he took his suit off
At 4:54 you can see Obi-Wan use Anakins signature behind the back move, as if part of his current strength is coming from what he learned from his old apprentice. Really nice touch
It's also kinda ironic. Obi Wan being the master was still open to learning from his apprentice. But if Anakin learned his lessons from his Master then he wouldn't need this suit to even breathe or function
Psychological warfare right there " hey remember that cool spin thing you used to do? Was it like this? Oh right, you're missing your arms and can't move like that anymore." Obi Wan can't help but troll.
Bless you for this. It’s super important to catch Anakin’s expressions since it’s the only small glimpse we get on what he feels like on the inside. He truly destroyed himself with the choices he made in ROTS and he suffers every day for it. Truly tragic.
@1:27 I love how Vader realizes Obi Wan is back and goes to two hands. Vader only went to two hands when he had to get serious I think. I don’t know if I’m wrong but I’ve seen in certain lore he fights with one hand on the lightsaber when he is just toying with an opponent.
The dialogue between Darth Vader and Obi Wan close to the end is one of the most chilling scenes in any Star Wars media. The fact that you could see so much hatred through that one small spot of the helmet is amazing.
I love the color on their faces throughout this scene like taxi driver, and carlitos way used it to convey the good and bad in someone. Anakin wanted to die here, and ol Ben let him live again.
2:58 Vader looked down like “Who Has The High Ground Now Bitch”. It’s funny to think Anakin was so pissed about the High Ground move that he wanted to get Obi Wan back with the same move even when he was Full on Darth Vader. It was like Anakin Pride & Arrogance wouldn’t let that go. He truly felt like Obi never beat & that Obi cheated.
Bruh when he said that to Ashoka my heart broke and nearly my eyes I knew it wasn't going to happen but I had hope bc of watching clone wars and knowing their bond... But he remembered she left him and that will always boil to the surface when your in a constant state of hatred
6:41 - 7:36 Why you gotta make a grown man wanna cry? Seriously, this in peak Star Wars. So much to unpack here. From Obi-Wan being in Qui-Gon's signature Form IV stance, to the glimmer of hope and joy Obi-Wan feels at seeing Anakin's face behind the mask, to Anakin's classic line, to Obi-Wan's (incredibly well done) apology to Anakin... it's just premium. As a side note, I think that Obi-Wan blamed himself for Anakin's fall to the Dark Side far too much, which was holding him back. He couldn't see or speak to Qui-Gon because he got in his own way. Once Obi-Wan managed to understand that he wasn't the crux of why Anakin turned into Vader, he was released from his mental prison and view the world more clearly (including Qui-Gon), Ironically, it's made clear that Qui-Gon blamed himself for Anakin's downfall even as a Force Ghost, and Obi-Wan shut that notion down right away. Although he acknowledgles that he and Qui-Gon may have played small parts, they were in no way the primary reason for Anakin to fall to the Dark Side. If anything, it was a combination of the Jedi Council treating Anakin rather poorly throughout his life, combined with his natural pride, and finally Sidious manipulating Anakin's FEAR of losing the people he loved (which, ironically, was the catalyst of losing those he loved). Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are not to blame for that.
Neither of them are willing to fully finish each other off. There is still love between each other because just as they could deliver the final blow they walk away. A New Hopes death of Obi Wan i honestly feel like they both knew Obi Wan was ready to die to end the sadness he lives with over Anakin and Darth Vader knew it as well but Darth Vader was ready to end his own life as well but not before he told Luke everything and Obi Wan set that up for him cause he knew what Anakin wanted before he peaced out.
See this is what's been missing from the sequel trilogies and everyone hates the action for it! If a 51 and 41 year old actor are able to move and give such beautiful lightsaber choreography, there was absolutely NO EXCUSE for the younger actors Rey and Kylo with their baseball swinging shit action!
This makes me think of the time Vader said to Luke in Return Of Jedi "Obi-Wan once thought as you do" trying to bring Vader back in last desperate attempt only to realise there was no hope at this point in time.
Vader left screaming in the dark alone is just so powerful. All that anger going nowhere except towards himself. this show was mid but this scene definitely saved it hard not to say 10/10
I love that the writers made Darth Vader say he killed Anakin. It gives so much credit to what Obi-wan says to luke in episode 4, that Darth Vader did kill his father Anakin.
I still cannot believe we got this. Hayden, Ewan, Vader, Kenobi…and all everyone did was COMPLAIN! We should be thanking them for even doing this FOR US. Hats off these two haven’t skipped a beat since ROTS.
Loooool, this is the most lame comment ever. so now why in the world are we supposed to be thankful for??? They did this for the sake of humanity, oh thank you God for giving Disney the money to bring them all back together so simps like you can thank them for their existance. You're a joke hahaha they did this for money, give me a break cause you sound very desperate. Because you like it, and feel nostalgic, doesn't mean we're all supposed to. You go ahead and thank them, kiss their asses and everything you need to feel satisfied but don't came here pretending we're all supposed to. People has all the right to complain for something they didn't like, this is a free world, just because you feel mad for being a fanboy doesn't give you the right to tell people what they should think or do. Don't you people dare to talk against the great mouse and the great star wars cause fanboys are going to be sad about it😢 don't let no one go against your favorite saga. Go cry somewhere else
Right?! I just sat down and enjoyed the ride. This show had some truly fantastic moments and I love how it explored Obi Wan and Vader in this stage of their lives. It showed the depth of Vader’s tragedy; how his choices have left him an utterly miserable, lonely shell of a man. His interaction with Palpatine reminds us that he never stopped being a Slave. Hayden and Ewan delivered some excellent performances.
I think you're right, people did moan too much and too often, BUT... Reva. That character took too much time away from the story we all really wanted. That's what the main concern was, and rightly so.
its always the "I'm not your failure he frees Obi Wan of his guilt" then goes on to say "You didnt kill Anakin Skywalker I did " this scene is truly one of a GEM
it's kinda more tragic that Obi-wan spares him. He leaves Vader to continue suffering and leaves him with the reminder that he could never beat his master. No wonder Vader freaking hated himself and saw himself as weak.
Up until Obi Wan saw Anakin’s face at the end, I don’t think he considered Vader to be Anakin, either. This would have been a really weird time for the character. Like what would he have made of Darth Vader? He thought Anakin was gone on Mustafar for all these years. It’s like he didn’t know who he was dueling.
He knew he was dueling this new sith lord that rose to power but he didn't put two and two together until he sliced the helmet open. He saw Anakins eyes. You hear him say " Anakin?"
The connection to the final quotes in this duel connects really well with the original trilogy. It justifies Ben Kenobi’s point of view of saying that Darth Vader killed Anakin because Darth Vader said it himself: “You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker; I did.” Even though Luke felt misled by Ben when Darth Vader told him about being his father, Ben was still telling Luke the truth the whole time, just from a certain point of view.
I'm not convinced Anakin actually smirks during that last conversation when he says, "I did". I've replayed it countless times. The camera angle moves slightly, but his lips don't change shape.
Thanks for posting this super clean version of their finale. Little neat factoid some may not know , All of vaders lines are sound bytes from previous films, every spoken line by Vader was created using old masters of James earl jones performances or rendered using AI. Check it out for yourself.
This saber duel is going to go down in history as one of the best! The choreography isn't as obvious as in the prequels, but I appreciate the desperateness in this struggle! Obi wan does a lot of rolling...it all feels so much more haphazard! Which is a good thing! I love that moment where Vader force stops Obi Wan's blade! The whole affair was surprisingly brutal! I've said it before and I'll say it again...don't back Obi Wan into a corner, lest he becomes a feral beast! I also love Ewan and Hayden's performances! Hayden sells it with the look and confirmation that Vader is, in fact, the one who "killed" Anakin Skywalker! Ewan legit pulls out the teary eyes when acknowledging that he's lost his friend. Calling him "Darth" is just the icing on the cake! A point of no return, where he has excepted those things he can't control!
Lotta people say the finale of Episode 3 was better, and it was more physically impressive. But as you say, it was too heavily choreographed. It was more like a dance performance than a battle. Amazingly done and entertaining to watch, but this feels more raw, more real.

Apparently, the lighting at the end was accidental but they ran with it.

Lukewarm IQ take, not much surprise from someone who thits this was a good scene. Vader wasn't trying to comfort anyone.
@@spicytea735what was left of anakin was trying to
@@spicytea735 I don't think that's a crazy take.

The horror on Obi-Wans face when he sees Anakin’s eyes for the first time is heart breaking
I think his eyes just a part of it. It’s anakin whole ass face , he feels extreme guilt for what he did to anakin he indirectly caused anakin to burn alive, and he saw the after math with the eyes aswell
Yeah exactly @@poultry-lover6665
He should have let mace finish him with his Vapaad
Grow up
hes not broken hes just evil dawg
I think that's the real reason he wanted Obi wan to continue fighting and was so enraged when he left. Vader knew that in his wounded and exhausted state and with his damaged respirator he was unlikely to win against him. In that moment he just wanted it to be over with, he was threatening and screaming at him because he wanted Obi to finish him.
@@ixsanityzVader isn’t completely evil he is the product of those who made him a pawn
"I'm not your failure Obi Wan. You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker. I did"
The last ember of goodness of Anakin trying to scream out from within the darkness 'it was my fault' and that he says it while bathed in the blue of Obi Wan's lightsaber over his for that instant is very apt.
And then he gets bathed in red at the next cut to him
And to top it all over, he says “I did” with such an evil smile, almost gives you the shivers!
Soo that was true for a certain point of view
People forget how unbelievably powerful Obi Wan was.
Obi-Wan beats Dooku 5-6/10 in ROTS
Obi-Wan beats Dooku 8-9/10 by the Kenobi finale

Agreed. You can really break it down further by some of his word choices when he speaks to those Anakin cared for. "Have you come to destroy me, Obi Wan?" He even sounds a bit conflicted saying this. And then when he fought Ashoka. He's even convincing her to join him, just like with Luke.

This was the closure we didn’t know we needed between these 2.
Yea, kind of interesting how he has become a Sith during the biggest psychotic break in his life
I came here to rewatch this after hearing that James Earl Jones passed away today, September 9, 2024 at the age of 93.
@@thespieskneesbecause it was his AI voice
The way Vader’s eyes light up a little more and curls a smile when he said “…I did” was one of those little details that make the whole scene. It killed Obi-Wan inside, and any hope of redemption ended. Hence why he calls him Darth.
It's also because he would refer to him as Anakin. Never Skywalker like the rest did.
Every time I rewatch this, the emotion of ewan and Hayden is just spot on even when Hayden as Vader says”you didn’t kill anakin skywalker.. I did” damn that hits so hard

The way the blue glow of Obi Wan’s lightsaber on that right side of Anakin’s face turns red as the last bit of Anakin slips away. Subtle but amazing.

What a good idea of mixing Anakin & Vader voice at the end of the battle
Ik. James Earl Jones does it great.
That scream at the end...It's harder than Maul could ever scream. Because Maul doesn't know Obi Wan like Anakin did: On a deeply personal level. He hates only 3 things in the galaxy:
His master; Darth Sidious.
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.

Psychological warfare right there " hey remember that cool spin thing you used to do? Was it like this? Oh right, you're missing your arms and can't move like that anymore." Obi Wan can't help but troll.
and then u hear vader scream
Bless you for this. It’s super important to catch Anakin’s expressions since it’s the only small glimpse we get on what he feels like on the inside. He truly destroyed himself with the choices he made in ROTS and he suffers every day for it. Truly tragic.
Rest in power james earl jones!! 🙏🏻🕊 thank you for giving life to vader for being that iconic voice.. 😭
@1:27
I love how Vader realizes Obi Wan is back and goes to two hands. Vader only went to two hands when he had to get serious I think. I don’t know if I’m wrong but I’ve seen in certain lore he fights with one hand on the lightsaber when he is just toying with an opponent.
u can see he's moving his fingers like he's ready to go at 1:28
The dialogue between Darth Vader and Obi Wan close to the end is one of the most chilling scenes in any Star Wars media. The fact that you could see so much hatred through that one small spot of the helmet is amazing.
I love the color on their faces throughout this scene like taxi driver, and carlitos way used it to convey the good and bad in someone. Anakin wanted to die here, and ol Ben let him live again.
The best thing about this video, no Reeva
Amazing sequence. When you realise Obi Wan was telling the truth in New Hope to Luke!
From a certain point of view
2:58 Vader looked down like “Who Has The High Ground Now Bitch”. It’s funny to think Anakin was so pissed about the High Ground move that he wanted to get Obi Wan back with the same move even when he was Full on Darth Vader. It was like Anakin Pride & Arrogance wouldn’t let that go. He truly felt like Obi never beat & that Obi cheated.
It's amazing how much Obi-Wan loved Anakin. Twice he couldn't bring himself to kill him.
0:53 second time he's said that to someone that is very important to his past as Anakin and it still hurts every time I hear it
Bruh when he said that to Ashoka my heart broke and nearly my eyes I knew it wasn't going to happen but I had hope bc of watching clone wars and knowing their bond... But he remembered she left him and that will always boil to the surface when your in a constant state of hatred
6:41 - 7:36
Why you gotta make a grown man wanna cry?
Once Obi-Wan managed to understand that he wasn't the crux of why Anakin turned into Vader, he was released from his mental prison and view the world more clearly (including Qui-Gon),
Ironically, it's made clear that Qui-Gon blamed himself for Anakin's downfall even as a Force Ghost, and Obi-Wan shut that notion down right away.
Typical sequel hate
@@jeffreyquinde6707 Valid sequel hate
@@jeffreyquinde6707 typical. 👏👏👏
@@donaldthescotishtwin cringe sequel hate
I can understand Rey swinging it like a baseball bat since she has no experience but Kylo should've been fast and nimble like the prequels.
This makes me think of the time Vader said to Luke in Return Of Jedi "Obi-Wan once thought as you do" trying to bring Vader back in last desperate attempt only to realise there was no hope at this point in time.
He straight up did Anakins own move on him. Best troll ever
They had the perfect moment for “I have the high ground now obi wan”
Vader left screaming in the dark alone is just so powerful. All that anger going nowhere except towards himself.
this show was mid but this scene definitely saved it hard not to say 10/10
I love that the writers made Darth Vader say he killed Anakin. It gives so much credit to what Obi-wan says to luke in episode 4, that Darth Vader did kill his father Anakin.
First time you ever see someone take advantage of Vader’s obvious weakness: the box on his chest.
This dual was so good i accidentally ignited my lightsaber in the unknown regions
oh
I love this you can hear a akin trying to brake free especially when obi says I’m sorry😢
its always the "I'm not your failure he frees Obi Wan of his guilt"
then goes on to say "You didnt kill Anakin Skywalker I did " this scene is truly one of a GEM
The scene of them talking is the best thing Disney has ever done with Star Wars
Once more Obi-Wan defeated Darth Vader but spared his friend's life
it's kinda more tragic that Obi-wan spares him. He leaves Vader to continue suffering and leaves him with the reminder that he could never beat his master. No wonder Vader freaking hated himself and saw himself as weak.
Thank you Disney for not ruining this
This is what I need thx u man keep up the good work
Up until Obi Wan saw Anakin’s face at the end, I don’t think he considered Vader to be Anakin, either.
@@Spiralredd He knew it was him. His emotions took over when he saw his face and he thought he could reach him.
I really want more starwars fights where they just start throwing things at each other over and over.
RIP James Earl Jones. Rest in heaven Darth:(
The connection to the final quotes in this duel connects really well with the original trilogy.
This Interaction was needed the little kid in myself screaming WOOHOO 😅😊
R.I.P James Earl Jones..Darth Vader voice fell silent forever💔😔
One of the best fights of all star wars
the fact vader says anakin is gone instead of dead is a nice detail of attention
One of the best scenes in all of Star Wars. ALL of it.
What an incredible scene told to us all in between the conflict we saw portrayed in the movies. Incredible.
Obi Wan smiles when he finally sees Anakin. And I cry.
It soo cool to see Christianson and McGregor fight again. Deffently awakens my childhood
Isn’t as obvious? It’s straight up bad
@@reinhardt_tv maybe you're just picky...

When we first watched this scene together as a family at home you could hear a pin drop. This scene is completely enthralling.
Shoutout to the 4 people who managed to take off Vader's mask, Ahsoka, Luke, Obi-Wan and Starkiller.
