it does look like that from the outsiders view lol but in canon though Grievous didnt lie here Darth Tyranus(count dooku) did train him in like 7 different saber forms and in one of their heated sparring sessions Dooku was even getting overwhelmed by how quickly Grievous had adapted to his saber style and decided it was best that Grievous should never ever under any circumstances confront master yoda or mace windu cause he feared that gaining those forms would make Grievous more difficult to control.
and indeed Grievous proved his medal by defeating both Asajj Ventress and Durge at the same time and later on coruscant he had been confronted by Mace an the jedi veteran noticed Grievous was learning his movements an out of desperation he destroyed the train car him and Grievous were on so that he wouldnt be pressured.
though this maneuver meant that Grievous caught up to palpatine an reclaimed him an fled the planet's surface.
the canon grievous i would say is definitely alot more better presented then the movie one lol

@@timesupea he is you are not wrong but i was more specifically referencing the off screen Grievous who is also canon to the star wars universe.
the general grievous we are shown in comics and novels is better presented and is gauged as more a bigger threat than the cartoon or the movies shows us while also still maintaining his onscreen persona at the same time.
to put into perspective for you Grievous is said to have killed many padwan, several knights, and even 1 jedi master in his conquests an succeed in taking many planets for the confederacy he was so feared an good at what he does that the republic was worried they'd actually loose to the confederacy but ofc that didnt happen because the plot wasnt about the confederacy but more so about the fall of the jedi order and the rise of a new sith empire so he was faded into the background intentionally but still present as a threat by design so that Darth Vader could ascend an be the main focus etc.

That was always one aspect I never liked, in the original clone wars cartoon series he was a whirlwind menace of blades and a pretty darn good killing machine. Here…he just sucks honestly doing his twirly crap instead of actually trying to hit him with 4 different angles of attack.

As Count Dooku said it best in the 2003 Clone Wars series... "In order to succeed combat against the best of the Jedi, you must have fear, surprise, and intimidation on your side."
Obi-Wan was surprised at Grievous' spinning tactic, but he was not intimidated and not scared, for he was in tune with the force.

Instead he's able to do things that constantly unbalances or surprises Grievous. No matter how slow it looks to us. Grievous calculations and predictions are forced to bluescreen and reboot at every move. That's how the force works. And Obi is very much in tune with the force.

It does make sense. He used the low ground to take Maul off his guard in TPM. He then got himself onto the low ground to set up blaster shots against Grievous that would circumvent his defense. Finally, he baited Anakin into trying to take the high ground, and then dismembered him from below - that is, while on the low ground.

Not only that but his cybernetics also enhance his brain, augmenting his reflexes to a height which could rival some jedis precognition. On top all of that he is a master tactician, and was a greatly skilled warrior before his enhancements and training from count dooku. Grievous may have four lightsabers, but he doesn't make good use of them. He fights like someone with two arms. Swinging two blades through the same arc side-by-side isn't any more lethal or hard to block than doing it with one, and the spinning blades are only threatening if you don't realize you're just advertising a clear and predictable space where the blades WON'T be (i.e. at the center of the spin, where the hand is holding the unprotected handle of the saber).

Lore says he's built to tank shots from starships, so the assumption is Ben isn't just using physical strength to pry the damn plates open, but is going all-out with the Force _and_ muscles because he was _that_ in need for an opening. If Grevious was still 100% meatbag-- well, given the other feats of telekinesis we've seen Jedi do, I don't imagine it'd be too hard for some force-user to do a Kratos (or a Doomguy) and straight _rip someone in half._
One of the biggest feats of 'magical strength' I remember from old Extended Universe had a myth of a Sith who _tore two _*_stars_*_ open,_ so the resulting mini-supernova took out a spacefleet that was on his ass.

The new Clone Wars show kind of ruined Greivous. In the old timeline if a jedi had an encounter with him he would make sure they wouldn't survive for round 2 because shock and surprise were a major part of his fighting style and allowing a jedi to learn how he operated would give them a huge advantage in any potential rematch

  • @ryangainey94
    @ryangainey94 ปีที่แล้ว +68

They nerfed poor Grievous so hard. Dooku was one of the best duellists in the series and Grievous trained with him. He didn't have access to the Force, but he had cybernetic augmentation and multiple lightsabers. Of course, traditional lightsaber attacks when you're a creature like Grievous is probably not the way to go. What Grievous did with the spinning blades at the start was more like what I'd expect from the whole fight sequence.
Plus, I never understood why no one ever pressed the advantage who had at least two sabers. If you've got a saber lock with one saber versus one, why not direct the extra saber in a side cut at the undefended part of the other duellist? And in Grievous's case with 4 blades you would think you would occupy Kenobi's lightsaber with 1/4 of your blades, then use the other 3 to hit kenobi at 3 other different angles. He couldn't defend from all of them at once without resorting either to using the force or to being fast enough with his own saber to reflect the onslaught of 4 different sabers

Plot armor sadly. Grievous would've easily stomped, not to mention how Kenobi should've been way more hurt if not outright dead from unarmed attacks that happened. His only chance would've been The Force, not fencing.

Seeing and watching how very young Obi Wan Kenobi trained from being a Padawan of the great Legendary Jedi Master Qui Gon Jinn and progressed throughout his knighthood years as another apprentice's mentor and eventually acquiring tonnes of knowledge and experiences in life and battle to greater philosophy and light then finally rising to the rank of the highly recognized and respect by others as a Jedi Master himself, whom became as equally good and famed as his late Master Qui Gon just made this whole Star Wars saga a very legendary classic even in present days and many more years and generations to come ! How words can't explain enough to describe such beauty and transition from a mindful disciple to a well seasoned and wisely experienced Master Warrior just powers one's mind and spirit to another level. I just love how Obi-Wan says "How uncivilized" after the fight, a nice call back to ANH. Also him hurting his foot because he reflexively tries to kick Grievous leg forgetting it's made of metal is so funny yet realistic. This is one of the reasons why I love so much his character. He is much less larger than life than many of the Jedis.

One little detail I can really appreciate here.. 0:48 as the lightsabers are activated his arms nudge down a little bit instead of just staying still

Its probably because he doesnt have the force, while the jedi and sith can manipulate the saber with or without their hands. Looks like anakin is in luck, no hands no problem 😂

Fun fact, the Revenge Of The Sith novel confirms that "So uncivilized" is basically Obi-Wan's version of "Shit". The man is such a gentleman that even his cursing is polite.

When General Grievous said I been trained in your Jedi arts by Count Dooku. Obi-Wan should have said to General Grevious oh yeah, I trained the guy who killed Count Dooku I have the upper hand.

He literally said that in the novelisation.
“I was trained in your Jedi arts by Count Dooku!”
“Really? I trained the man who killed him…”

It’s kinda hilarious how the fight choreography peaked so much in the prequels and episode 3 especially.
