to anyone confused or not used to travel this way you do not need to know or worry about the line and stop names. All you need it the line color and the start and stop letter and number. (Take the purple line from Z14 to Z01.) Every metro in the world works like this and after you do it once it is super easy. Also unless you are in an big rush, its not like flying or busses (in some countries) where you can "miss" your train. Just wait for the next one and it will show up in just a few minutes. Take your time, enjoy the ride, and the accessibility of the entire city.
i agree. i live in Singapore, while it's more straight forward here, google maps is helpful there in tokyo on which direction/platform to be on. i miss the sounds on the tokyo subway lines 😞

One look at those station subway maps and you can understand how first-timers might get totally turned around. 😅 I lived in Tokyo for almost 18 years and--especially after the redevelopment of Shibuya Station--would almost never venture into that part of town.💦 Still, once you master the network (assuming that's even possible), it's easy enough to get from one end of this sprawling city to the other in a clean, efficient, safe manner. Tokyo may be intimidating at first, but as a major metropolis, it actually WORKS--most of the time. (If you're partial to the subway system, be prepared to do a LOT of walking--if not stairs (or escalators), then on the long treks underground between platforms, exits and inter-connected train lines and stations, some of which are certainly connected but may be as much as one km apart through underground passages.😱)
Doing my first trip in Japan now, and I can say to just ignore that map and use your phone’s map app so that you can get the hang of it. Once I got a hang of the Yamamote line (the easiest one), the rest started naturally making sense, regardless of who owns and runs that train.

The subway looks like a great way to sightsee. It is so clean and bright- our local subway is dark and kind of dingy in comparison. The safety gates are a great idea-I wish we had those, too. The views and the sunset from the Skytree were great, and the shrine so tranquil. Thanks for taking us with you.

I really liked this video. It seems like Tokyo is your home base, judging from where your trips usually start. It seems like the city doesn't get as much attention as it should for being so big and having so much to offer because it's your backyard. I think it would be fun if you did day trips to different sections of the city so we could see more of it. And instead of staying in a hotel, you could let us know if there are locations for chain hotels you've stayed at before.
It is really great to go on solo tours around Tokyo. Overall Japan. People are cautious of not being too loud or chaotic. A very peaceful environment is everywhere.
I especially enjoy the sounds of the train when they leave the station platform. The sound gets louder gradually. This electric sound is appealing to me, weird thing I know XD Japan's train system is so convenient, and the services surrounding the area are truly ideal. I love their urban planning and how the citizens cooperate with the civil conduct. Very inspiring nation they are!! You are very lucky to be enjoying life in Tokyo and elsewhere in Japan. Your videos are my only go to places to watch and dream on visiting Japan. Thankyou so much for your video. It helps curious minds like mine, haha!!

Thank you for your video. It looks fun. I notice sometimes I hear birds in the subway tunnels. Are they canaries? Miners sometimes had canaries. If the canaries were singing it meant the air is good to breathe. If they are dead in the bottom of the cage, it means the air is bad & get out.

I don't want to leave like a thousand comments on this video, but OMG the nostalgia. I had the Mont Blanc my first time in Skytree, and I can TASTE IT while watching this. I always get coffee at the Tsutaya Starbucks in Shibuya, and that footbridge is part of my Persona 5 walking tour. Meiji-jingumae was the second sacred site I visited my first day in Tokyo (after Toshogu Ueno Park), and I remember those maps of things to do.

More conveniently subway rush hour is less crazy than the normal train route.. perfect for tourists who are not into large crowd

i went to a lot of these places 10 years ago, nice memories! especially the skytree at dusk.
One big advantage of the Tokyo Metro 24 Hr pass is that it’s a 24 hour pass, not one day pass. The big difference about 24 hr pass is that you can buy your pass until the next day, as long as it’s still within 24 hrs of your initial purchase. You can’t do that with one day pass (valid only until 11:59pm of the purchase date).
Just went to Tokyo and stayed at Richmond Oshiage so this video brought back great memories of that area.

Nice tour of Tokyo. The 24 hour subway ticket is a great idea. Have always found Shibuya Crossing interesting. Great for pedestrians, but not so great for vehicles. The observation deck at the Tokyo Skytree was fascinating. You're a good tour guide. Will go with you on the next excursion. Take care, stay safe.
I remember the Tokyo Metro well, very confusing at first, but then it worked well, the combination of colors and numbers makes it easy

I love to see how my city has borrowed its rail network design from Japan, the trains even sound the same as our TransPerth trains, the coloured lines, the stations are all so similar 🤘🤩🤘🦘🇦🇺🦘
Call me a tourist but I always have a JR Pass when I got to Japan, usually for (totally serious here) random shinkansen rides to places (mostly Nikko, Ichi-no-seki, Nagoya). My experience with the subway is the Keikyu line (because I stay in Kawasaki Nisshin-cho and would get WiFi eggs from Haneda), and the lines to Asakusa.
But I am also such a train nerd. Originally from NYC, Im used to them. But nothing (and I mean NOTHING) compares to the Yamanote line for me. Hearing the jingle legit calms me down to this day, almost a decade after I first heard it. Gotta love Tokyo by train.
Also, every thing you mentioned I also did on my first day in Tokyo. Just not Skytree. Took me three trips before I did Skytree.

A friend living in Tokyo told me: If you're mainly travelling around central Tokyo (the 23 Wards), then JR (Yamanote Line in particular) is for newbies, the expert traveller mainly uses the subway (Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway) to navigate. Plus its cheaper than JR.
Its only if you're travelling towards the outskirts of Tokyo like Kanagawa, Saitama and Chiba and further that JR and their related rail passes become useful.
Stunning view of the city at night, great to see ways of getting round Tokyo as I found it very hard when I was there, but the people where very helpful

This is an excellent presentation, now I have a feel of how Tokyo is
1/24, you edited and uploaded this trip in under two days! The fact that they have English translations for so many things in Japan like the subway lines makes me feel pretty spoiled to be a native English speaker, ngl. Doubt you'd do a video on it but it you ever come abroad for train travel, check out American cities where much of the system still runs overground and on overpasses like here in Chicago. It makes for a pretty cool sightseeing in the sense that you pass right through the neighborhoods and even the city skyline on the train. Grew up on the CTA and I would totally get lost if I tried going somewhere new even today, even though our system is color coded, ha.

We need those gates in our subways - no way to get pushed onto the tracks. I would probably still get lost, english signs or not. Outside of NYC, most of our subway systems are pretty simple. In NYC, I just gave up and walked. 😁 Tokyo is huge, just wow.

To maximize your use of the ticket always check if your accomodation is near a metro station, if not it's not worth it that much. Experienced being near a JR station and availing this ticket, didn't use it much since it's much more convenient to use the nearest JR one.

The view from the skytree was breath taking. I am wondering about people who can't handle stairs or walk far, or can't handle some food?
I visited Japan 4 years ago for like 28 days. I lost hrs just trying to figure out how to navigate the different lines. Even using google. I just watched your video very slowly and probably took me over an hr to watch it lol. My wife and i are visiting Japan this coming fall and do not want to be lost again. 😅
Most times I visit Tokyo I arrive at Narita and I don't always have a JR Pass, so I buy a ticket for the Keisei Skyliner instead of Narita Express. If you buy online in advance, you can get the "Keisei Skyliner and Tokyo Subway Ticket" which, if you take a round trip on Skyliner plus 72 hour Subway ticket, that saves you over 1000yen in total. I don't always get this ticket as I often have a JR Pass, but the Skyliner is a nicer and quicker journey than Narita Express so sometimes I take it even when I have a JR Pass lol

I suspect that your "beef stew" omurice was a bit of a jumbled translation of demi glace sauce. That is a beef reduction sauce and I have seen it used on omurice in several cooking videos. It is certainly what it looked like on the plate. I went through a stage of being quite fascinated by omurice and did a bit of research on its origins etc. One of these days, I might find somewhere that serves it here in New Zealand! Or be brave enough to make it myself. I can manage the chicken rice - it is the omelet that is a bit scary.

I don’t think you mention it, but I realized the yellow subway signs are the ones directing you out (exits and transfers). The other colors relate to the different train lines. Thank you for the tour.
