Should admit that folks in Japan are ones of the most helpful I've ever encountered. During my first visit I got lost on one of those metro lines and asked for a guidance to a random stranger. The gentleman put his travel route aside and kindly escorted me to a proper line and waited along with me to make sure I hop on the right one))) And yet he didn't speak any English at all. For a sake of comparison, when I had asked for a guidance in Lima, Peru, a person grabbed my map and runaway 🏃♂️ 🤣.
Same thing happened to me, I got to Japan a few days ago and a really nice guy helped me all the way from the airport to my hotel, even with my heavy suitcase, I'll always be thankful, it would've taken me all day without him
Not just when you're in Japan, either. I've never been there, but I've known some people from Japan who helped me and some of my friends out when we got our car stuck in some mud. They were wearing very nice clothes, but they didn't hesitate to stop their vehicle and help us get the car out. They said that they were from Yokohama and that this was their first time in Canada. Also, there have been other times when I've heard of people from Japan being very helpful when away from their home. I've also known some people from Japan personally, and they've always been kind and gracious and very polite. A lot of fun as well.
I love this channel. My father was raised in Japan because his father worked there. He spoke fluent Japanese, and knew many of the customs. I've always had a fascination with Japan and your channel is the best one ever for travel and seeing Japan. Hopefully I can visit one day. Thank you.
I like how you set your priorities. Cut corners where you can (like cheaper hotel) and be more efficient with your time so you have more time and money to eat! Perfect!
I have been waiting to watch this until I became brave. I have now booked my flight into Haneda for last week of March - first week of April! It will be my first time in Japan and alone. I'm terrified in a good way. I hope there will still be sakura in Tokyo. Thank you for all your vids that help me understand Japan.
Do not be stressed, its totally okay think of it as an adventure. Me also I am going alone to Tokyo for the first time in the 1st of March, yes many things are confusing but I am excited for the experience
Hanami time (sakura blossoms) should be right there when you visit Tokyo as it usually starts end of March first week of April, I would recommend the wonderful Shinjuku national garden (Shinjuky gyoen) to watch it and also at the Ueno park, but there are many other spots. If you can travel to Kyoto it's even better during Hanami. Enjoy your trip !
Travel can be exciting/exhausting, travel to a new place even more so. A stress-free first night with good food and good sleep will set the tone for the rest of the trip. A simple, but very important idea. Thanks for the videos!
I love Japan.. But I never been there.. Saw ur videos.. My love for Japan growing day by day.. Really Japan is awesome country.. Arigato gozaimasu for ur videos 💓.
When I was in Japan, nearly 30 years ago I stayed near Shinjuku. I landed at Narita and was met by one of the guides from the RENGO organisation which I was visiting. I was with a group of Union women, some from South Korea, me from New Zealand, and one from India. We went to the hotel by bus. I happily ate everything that was put in front of me! After 10 years of Aikido I had "dojo Japanese" so I could be polite and find my way around. I even knew the word for those "rotary" sushi trains.
i recommend staying in the Ueno area for Tokyo newbies rather than out by Skytree. Transfers make it tiring if you have any luggage. Ueno is on the JR Line YAMANOTE Loop (great way to get around to all the tourist spots) The area is fun, there are MANY inexpensive hotels, Ueno park has beautiful shrines and temples, and the Ameyokocho entertainment area along the train tracks is great for food and shopping and old Tokyo ambiance. Plus you are only a few Ginza Line metro stations from fantastic Asakusa and from there one stop on the Toby line to Skytree. Ueno Station connects easily to the airports and Tokyo Station for the Shinkansen as well.
Perfect! Very informative and just filming with real sound adding info on screen. And most important: showing the real place instead of filming selfies! Keep up the good work!
I think one of the reaosns I enjoy your videos so much is that you and I share the same all-you-can-eat philosophy - try it all! Great video, as always
this is so thoughtful to do especially because tokyo train travel is overwhelming. solo travel vlogs like yours are so cozy and encouraging, thank you!
In case anyone is wondering, The song playing at the station at Haneda is Paprika by Kenshi Yonezu. I heard that and was like "Ohh my gosh that's so cool!" Took me a few minutes to recall the name. I've lived in Tokyo for 6 years now, NHK had a special segment for this song about a year or 2 ago.
ahhh it's very good there is a Japanese person who made a video on how to adapt to Japan for the first time coming, it's normal for the country to be more sophisticated and advanced like Japan for outsiders to feel overwhelmed wanting to deal with
This is a very helpful video, showing things like how to get your train pasma that is the type of simple thing that is completely confusing when you have done a 10 hour flight and arrive in the middle of the night in Tokyo. more videos like this are very much welcomed.
Going up into Tokyo Tower is a bargain compared to Skytree. I did the tower once in 2019, was worth it. One of the coolest city views has to be the Asahi Beer Hall where you can relax in the bar at the top of the building and drink beer while the city slowly slips into night mode just before dinner.
I grew up in Tokyo (9 years) but just started college here in the US...your videos are super helpful since I feel super homesick so I just wanted to say thank you :)
We have a Kura Sushi in my town here in Arizona. It was fun to see the same conveyor system at a Japanese one. Certainly A LOT more expensive here, though. I think each plate is like $3.00 at ours. The game on the monitor is based on how many plates you drop down the slide.
Yeah in Japan, there's a random chance to get a free gachapon every 5 plates. In the US, you just get one free every 15 plates. That's due to gambling laws, they're considerably weaker in Japan versus the US.
A good vlog! Even if I cannot afford to go just now, knowing how chill it can be to travel solo makes me feel like I can do it easily. Shame about the weather over the two days, but it's no problem if you're going to be indoors a lot and have an umbrella
It's interesting seeing Kura Sushi in Japan. We have them in the US as well, but they are much more expensive at 3.10 USD (451 JPY) per plate. Green tea is also not complementary and costs the same as ordering any drink. It's a bit disappointing since green tea is usually complimentary at many restaurants in Japan. I'm glad that Japan has reopened and I'm planning a trip this November. Your other videos have convinced me to try taking a ferry somewhere and I'm looking forward to it. Thank you for sharing your videos.
Watching this brought back many fond memories of flying into HND and eating at the sushi conveyor restaurant in Yokosuka. Never had any sushi back here in the states that compares. Thank you for another great video!
@@SoloTravelJapan Thank you for sharing your travels! I fall asleep to them a lot because so comforting and good. You're really doing great, My best to you from California USA! OMG! Kura is soooo much cheaper in Japan! Here in the U.S. it's something like $3.69 per plate! If the prices were the same as in Japan I'd probably eat myself to death like a goldfish and end up floating to the top of my fishbowl....
While the chances of me ever managing to go to Japan are incredibly small, I enjoyed this video a lot, and I'm sure it will be very helpful to a lot of people. I love living the Japan travel experience through your videos.

Visit a sento. The nighttime walk back to the hotel/hostel/ryokan/whatever after taking a bath is always peak comfy, especially just after 10+ hours on a plane.
Using the room key to turn on the lights is something I've only seen in Japan and S. Korea, never saw it anywhere in the US or EU when I've visited. That's something to mention since it''s quite a shock if it's your first time encountering it.
If you’re coming from overseas with large luggage, and can afford the ticket, the Keisei Skyliner or Narita Express (N’EX) are usually more friendly to traveling with luggage. N’EX has in the past had ticket bundles with preloaded Suica cards (similar to PASMO), but that may have been discontinued.
In March, i'll be 3 weeks in Japan. This is my first trip without my parents or family, also my first trip outside of europe. I am so looking forward to it. Good luch hopefully you have a great time. Currently heavily researching and noting down everything for my trip with some friends in late December to early January
It's been 7 years since I last went to Tokyo so I need a refresher! I still have my IC card for future trips and I have it added to my apple watch. Now that Japan is open, definitely planning a trip for 2023!
@@PS-lv1mr yes you can! works the same way. I just preferred using my watch when I was in Japan couple months back since I didn't have to take out my phone
I've been in Japan since January for work (with alot of time off). You captured alot of what I love about Japan. I tried driving the other day and I still preferred the easiness and reliability of taking the train. Hotels are simple and nice with alot of good amenities. And oh my god the food. The hard part of finding a place to eat is that there are too many good options, and they are sooo delicious for their price! I've been staying in Mercure this whole time and I stand by their brand, Accor. Mercure, Pullman, and Swissotel from Accor have all been absolutely amazing here.
Please write a travel guide. It would be so handy . I'm hoping to visit Japan next year with my friend. Her husband studied for a year in Japan and then went to teach for 4 years in Korea. He's trying to teach me some basic Japanese script ! My friend , she speaks fluent Japanese, but I so want to learn even the basics. Thankyou for showing that there are ways to save on travel . I can plan our trip using your vodka. Thankyou for doing this for us.
I always thought that to enjoy a trip to Japan, step 1 would be to get out of Tokyo as quickly as possible. This episode made me reconsider that... especially the hotel breakfast. Those pumpkin dishes looked godly.
That room price is unbeatable in Tokyo and those sushi's are basically the same price as you get them when they are on sale after 6pm in the supermarkets, these are really good deals
Thank-you for this video. If I should ever be blessed enough to visit Tokyo, then I now have some ideas of what to do and how to get around a bit. I don't like sushi, but the conveyor belt restaurant is a great idea. The food arrived fast and good, and I love the slot into which you put your dishes when you're done. Also, you can play a game while you eat if you want. Fun!
Thank you for this video it was so helpful! I've just returned from my trip to Tokyo and been to all places you showed here and in one day ticket video. It was really fun and calm as I knew more or less what to expect🙏
The views from the observation deck are breath-taking. The hotel room looks cozy and comfortable, and the food always looks delicious. Thanks for letting us go along again, STJ. Stay safe and well in your travels.
Introductions like this are very helpful to those planning to visit Tokyo, thank you. I have been once in 2016, landing in Haneda from Sydney, buying a Pasmo card then and riding the same train to Shinagawa then changing lines to Shinjuku where we stayed. Asakusa and Skytree were amazing to visit. Looking forward to my second visit in 2023. Any more videos you can share on recommended places to eat or visit in Tokyo would be appreciated.
Thanks again for a great VLOG. We were supposed to be in Japan right now, but had to cancel a few months ago because of the travel restrictions (now lifted, darn the bad timing). It's nice to see something not from a ferry. Showing train and bus options from the airports is of great help as well as budget friendly hotel options! I am not looking forward to the confusing train terminals. Now I wonder what your next great VLOG will be about.
Going to Japan for the first time this October, 22 days. I really appreciate this kind of videos since i worry a lot about not being able to understand how to move around there or how to eat on restaurants. You make it look trivial.
Thank you for another wonderful video, but I did miss some subtitles to tell me what is going on and what you are eating, and what time of day or night it was. Thank you for including those on your videos for those of us who are wishfully traveling with you on your journeys.
Great video for newbie’s to Tokyo ,I remember my last trip to Tokyo my hotel was at Higashi-Ginza and I needed exit A1 (stairs) with luggage after long economy flight.. tough! Fortunately a local helped me out, on hindsight he could of run off with a suitcase but trust is a good thing! Search out elevators if possible!
I am going to japan for the first time, on march 2023 l. This video show me to help me for the transportation Thank you so much 🙏🏻 for your help on this tutorial
Thank you for sharing your stay in Tokyo, very nice room altho not necessarily what another traveller will get (Upgrade) Also I would be wanting the nearest macdonalds to taste Japans version, or to a restaurant that serves cooked food, certainly not raw fish lol The game lol Wow 17 plates, you can eat!!
I missed conveyor belt sushi. It's so much fun with those games! At first the place looked familiar to me, then I googled up and realized I went to the same chain in Osaka a few years ago, and I still have the capsule prize with me.
Welcome to Japan! I am very happy to see foreigners visiting Japan and making them smile. If I can speak a lot of English, I would like to introduce a lot of safe and delicious Japanese food.

I was delighted to see you go to Kura sushi! We’ve got one of those here in Northern California! They’ve been opening a lot of restaurants around the US. Prob not as good as actually being in Japan, but it’s still pretty tasty! 😊

The views from the observation deck are breath-taking. The hotel room looks cozy and comfortable, and the food always looks delicious. Thanks for letting us go along again, STJ. Stay safe and well in your travels.
I started watching your videos last year. We will be in Japan for the whole of April and can’t wait to finally see everything that you’ve shown us!!!
I had authentic Japanese chicken katsu tonight for a late dinner, thanks for always showing me delicious options
I really enjoyed this. Kura was amazing looked fun.
Thank you for another wonderful video, but I did miss some subtitles to tell me what is going on and what you are eating, and what time of day or night it was. Thank you for including those on your videos for those of us who are wishfully traveling with you on your journeys.
Nice to see tips for first visitor! Metro and train travelling was good info and especially for direction part.
Great insight for people who travel to japan, bravo.
I always stay a night at the Richmond Premiere... such a great clean hotel and well located. Easy access to both airports.
👍🏼 STJ-san knows how to travel and eat well on a budget! 😎✌🏼
Very useful video. I'll be in Japan for the first time in late November for 2 weeks and I am using your videos to help me plan my stay. Thanks.
11月は紅葉🍁の季節です、京都など綺麗ですよ紅い葉が一番綺麗な時です、今は日本の円が安いのでたくさん買い物ができます、大きい🛍️バッグを持ってきて下さい、Good luck on your trip.(^_^)/~~
That ding always makes me happy
Thank you for sharing your stay in Tokyo, very nice room altho not necessarily what another traveller will get (Upgrade) Also I would be wanting the nearest macdonalds to taste Japans version, or to a restaurant that serves cooked food, certainly not raw fish lol The game lol Wow 17 plates, you can eat!!
Legitimately cackled at the bad news / good news 😆
Thanks for sharing, maybe one day I'll get there
I missed conveyor belt sushi. It's so much fun with those games! At first the place looked familiar to me, then I googled up and realized I went to the same chain in Osaka a few years ago, and I still have the capsule prize with me.
I love this kind of video, now that Japan is opening up again this is helpful. I have been wanting to plan a trip for a long time!
Thank you so much for all the useful tips and information.
Welcome to Japan!
I am very happy to see foreigners visiting Japan and making them smile.
If I can speak a lot of English, I would like to introduce a lot of safe and delicious Japanese food.
idk who started thinking that the phrase "don't worry, i get lost/confused too" was reassuring.
I am a big fan of Uobei sushi in Shibuya. I think the price to quantity to quality is quite good.
Great travel guide..You make it easy to understand...The view from the tower was stunning. The Sushi looks 😋 Hotel room comfy...Excellent vlog..Thank you
Tokyo is absolutely beautiful 😻 I’d love to visit some day. That plate slot was so neat!!! I’d order a lot just to slide the empty plate into it 😂
Awesome video, its very clear you enjoy making this content, very enjoyable and appreciated.
I was delighted to see you go to Kura sushi! We’ve got one of those here in Northern California! They’ve been opening a lot of restaurants around the US. Prob not as good as actually being in Japan, but it’s still pretty tasty! 😊
The sushi was really a great deal! Breakfast looks cool and I don’t think I could finish this large portion! This is great I’m visiting Tokyo alone this November! Woot! 👍🏼👍🏼
Wonderful and very helpful video. Subscribed and thanks for posting.
Very useful information, especially for those of us who have no idea how to speak Japanese. Thanks
