I agree with cb750k 1974: I think future doodle makes it much more enjoyable to watch the video when you need to make Corrections or clarifications.
Everyone else tends to write in Corrections and I have to stop and Rewind to read what they said.

Doodle, another great video. You have such motorcycle charm. No one reviews a bike like you. I watch all the videos of a certain bike that I’m interested in, complete with all the technical info. But I watch you first. Such a joy! Many thanks for being you and sharing with us.

I can't believe this bike is heavier than mine :"D it honestly felt lighter... A really comfortable and budget friendly option in the mid CC range. Next week is the test ride on the slightly "racier" version, the Ninja 650, and then... my favorite of the day... the Z900! What did you think of this bike? Did I miss something? Once I ride just about everything I can get my hands on, I'll do a comparison video on all the bikes I've ridden this year!

I know exactly how heavy that bike is because I've had to pick it up three times. I have so many crash bars and Axle sliders on it to make it easier for me to pick up because it is so huge despite being so small and narrow for my small body size. Every single thing that you pointed out in this video has been 100% accurate. I cannot agree more, down to the super narrow seat. I actually bought it for all of the reasons that you mentioned, specifically the narrowness of it.

I just bought a brand new Z900 two weeks ago.
What an awesome machine it is.
The engine is very smooth and powerful.
And somehow it feels so light despite weighing 470 lbs.
It’s 45 lbs heavier than my last bike, but you’d swear it’s the other way around.
Best thing is that despite the aggressive looks, it’s really a gentle giant.

I love that you did this! My 400 is super light and small, i am 5’3”, that was a concern for me. I am glad that you verified the weight being light for a 650. My husband has a Yamaha R3 and it feels so much heavier than mine. Thank you for this! Love watching your channel by the way :)

If anyone is interested: In Germany we have a riding school, that you have to entend when you want to get your licence. There you learn how to ride and then take a assessment at the end which determines, if you get the licence or not. The riding schools provide their own bikes and the Z650 is actually what i rode there. :)
I thought it was a great beginner bike, because it is pretty smooth (mid cc), lightweight enough and easy to handle. Really cool seeing you try it out!

Hails from Maricopa! I have the 2020 z650 and have been having a blast on it. I would recommend to anyone that buys one to get rid if the factory tires and put on some Q3+'s, they make a world of difference. I also stiffened up the rear damper from the factory setting a bit. 7300 miles in just under a year on it and no other complaints. Puig makes a wind screen that looks good on it too.

The z650 and the ninja 650 seem like really great bikes for having fun around town or for sport-touring. The ninja especially, since it combines the looks of a fully-faired sport bike with the comfort of a sport-tourer. I like that combination. Nice to know that they work well for shorter folks. Will definitely be checking them out.

  • @windyrun7979
    @windyrun7979 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I'm coming to accept the wisdom of long-term riders that no windscreen or BIG windscreen is the way to go. In betweeners just focus more wind into a smaller area of the rider making it feel worse than just a broad calm air blast from no screen. If that makes sense... I have to add though that smaller or midsize screens do look good ;)

The Ninja 650 and z650 share the same 649cc, 180° parallel-twin engine that makes roughly 68hp. The zx6-r is an entirely different animal. It has a 636cc inline-4 cylinder that makes north of 100hp. Also, the mirrors on the z650 are adjustable; instead of the mirror articulating WITHIN the housing, you move the entire mirror housing :)

I loved my 2017 Z650. As you said, it feels very light but it had decent power delivery, especially down lower in the rev range. I liked the narrowness of the tank when I squeezed it with my knees. I’m 5’6” with a short inseam and I was flat footed on this bike. More than adequate power for the highway, and yes, very nimble for the twisties and tight u turns.
Great review on this new model. 👍🏽

You & Future Doodle did a fine job in summing up the new Kawasaki mid-range line. Alter-Ego's await a firmly grounded view of just what an authentic rider must find after putting a leg over the real deal. All the well reasoned figures printed can never take the place of a rider with experience and sound reason to provide inputs about products that many only dream of riding. My hearty thanks to you, and Kawasaki Corporation for seeing in you a fine example of the modern rider. Have a great month of May Doodle.

Thanks for this review! My wife has been riding for a long time and it’s awesome that women about her size are doing reviews so she can better judge how they’ll be for her to ride. We both get a kick out of your reviews and this one is no exception. Future Doodle probably already knows I was going to say that, though. My wife may end up getting this bike for all the reasons you mentioned. And you’re right, it somehow feels lighter than the actual weight. I think it must be the low and forward weight distribution that makes it feel easy to manage because it’s more bottom heavy, and still feels well planted while riding.

  • @rkirby7183
    @rkirby7183 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I like getting your initial impressions, whether or not they match the specs. Like even though your bike is actually lighter, the Z650 feeling lighter probably means it has a lower center of gravity, which is important to me. That means it's probably easier to handle in a parking lot as well as more fun on twisty roads. Also if you have to cover a gravel road, that's easier too with a lower center.

Here in Europe the Z650 (and its predecessor Er6n) are super popular at driving schools for the unrestricted motorcycle license course. Definitely one of the most accessible and easy motorcycles to ride in that category. I did my course on one as well. The engine is the same in Z650, Ninja 650 and Versys 650, just slightly different tune in each.

There are up to 700cc bikes (often 500, 650 or 700) for restricted courses (A2, that’s how we called the intermediate license for motorcycles here in France) actually ,
These bikes see their power taken down to be legally driven by A2 bikers (Idk how they say in English, in French it’s called the « bridage »)

I actually swapped my 675r for a z650 apart from it not sounding as good, as an inexperienced rider it was the right decision as I've become more confident as it's easy and more forgiving to ride, hopefully will upgrade to a z900 in the future.

I used to have a ‘79 Kawasaki KZ650D. Put 10K miles a year on that beast. Put a Corbin seat on it, 1/2 to 3/4 fairing, bags and case for travel/shopping. Lived outside Alexandria, VA and motocamped from up and down the east coast and mountains. Thing was comfy for everyday riding, but a rocket when I yanked the throttle. Even made a few courier runs up towards Baltimore. Felt safer around the Beltway on the K than I did my car.

I have a 2019 Z650 that I bought in summer of 2020 and as you suspected, it's the seat that is the real sore spot - double entedre intended. Kawasaki does offer a "comfort" seat but reviews on it are mixed and it costs $175, so I haven't bought it yet. I feel it's only a matter of time, though, since the seat starts to become "real noticeable" - let's say - after about 2 hours. An aftermarket windscreen is practically a must for this bike if you spend any time at speeds above 75; I got a Givi model (can't remember which one) that was reasonably priced and massively reduced the buffeting. Oh, and while the Z900 is noticeably more powerful, it's also noticeably more thirsty (about 39mpg for the Z900 [est.], vs. 53mpg [actual] for my Z650).

I did a demo ride on a ZX6R recently. Haven't posted the video yet but it was fun.

I love testing bikes too, I had my eye on. A Z650 in Knoxville but a Nightster came up close by so I jumped on that

Great video Doodle. I think it could be worth to pop the most important specs in your opinion in the beginning so I can dial in on what you worth ship most on the bike. But your review is very honest and I like that very much - keep ‘em coming 👌

    Hey Doodle
The mirrors are adjustable. You have to hold the arm firmly to adjust the mirror 👍
Keep up the fantastic videos, they are super helpful and inspiring over here in the UK 😊

Hi Doodle, I love the content! Some of us newer riders would probably want to see you on a sub 250 cc bike like the new 2022 Grom or the Monkey.

this is my z900's little brother! it's a great bike and I feel like it matches you and your personality!
Also you can change the TFT display to a white background with black letters for day riding.

I sat on both the Z650 and the Ninja 650. The ergonomics are different. I ended up buying the Ninja 650 not because of the "sporty" look, but because my arms and hands felt more natural to me with the handlebars.

Same story here but ended up preferring the Z650 personally

Awesome! Haha glad you like it, it’s is an awesome commuter! I use it to door dash and zipping around town is awesome on this bike, it’s also super easy to spin on its kickstand haha ride safe!

Really happy to see you doing riding videos again. Please keep them coming!
Looking forward to the Z900. That's a bike I'm interested in along with the MT-09.
