    Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love the way the bike looks. Would have picked up a 2020 if the white scheme was available in the U.S. for that year, but it looks like they're bringing it back for 2021. In the questions parts somebody asked wheelies: yes, plenty.
    "Shockingly good". I will say: told ya. (Yammie disagreed) Especially for the price, and there are deals around!
    Vibrations at hwy speed, about 5.5k rpm, oh yeah, especially on the connection between your legs and the tank. Handlebar vibrations improved for me with bar end mirrors. Throw on a touring windshield, it becomes bearable. also looks get a bit better.
    Brakes: great, agree.
    Ergos: it's specifically target at lower riders, it's just not made for you. Kawasaki offering for people your size is the Versys.
    I had no problems with dash readability but it's a bit dated. Infos are all there though. For comparison, an MT09 which is otherwise an almost flawless motorcycle (all things considered) lacks range information and that's fucking annoying.
    City: I found it exceptional, zero complaints. Perfect city bike. I have a history of owning all the bikes with the worse throttle response so I tuned my hand instead of the bike ;)
    Negative? Yeah totally lawnmower sound. However, livable as is. This to me it's either a "transition bike", the second one you keep for 2 seasons, or a "grown man" bike, where you have tried everything and you now want something really reasonable, low maintenance, that goes fast but won't kill you, and at that point of your motorcycle life you probably don't want an aftermarket muffler.

    • @gnumel
      @gnumel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @William Halder Athony (VTI.D9) I had a 2017. Brakes were good. Same level as you would expect from a 900-1000cc naked bike, so not GREAT in the context as an R1 or Panigale brakes are outstanding, but in the context as it's significantly superior to its peer in the mid-size naked bikes crop (SV650, MT-07, etc). It helps the fact that suspensions are also very well sorted and the braking is very stable thanks to the limited fork dive. All of this: considering its class. Of course it pales in comparison to, like, a KTM Superduke.

    • @gnumel
      @gnumel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @William Halder Athony (VTI.D9) have you considered a versys 650 as a commuter instead? Same engine, most of the same very good characteristics, but with space for groceries. Doubles as excellent tourer.

    • @gnumel
      @gnumel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @William Halder Athony (VTI.D9) you should just flat foot on one side and don't even try to touch both. keep your right foot on peg and brake, put down the left by shifting your butt.
      The most stable position for the bike is on 3 points, not 4. If you are tiptoeing the bike can shift a bit left or right and unexpectedly put you out fo balance, especially with a passenger. If it's well planted on your flat footed left foot it's not going anywhere

Look just fits perfectly to what it really is. Personal opinion:)

    Had a Ninja 650 before as my first bike and I think it’s absolutely perfect as a first bike for a more, mature rider, someone that isn’t so throttle happy out the gates. For the biggest drawback I had was the softish suspension for more spirited canyon carving and how much the front forks dove down under moderate braking at any stoplight. The suspension setup makes the bike a perfect all around, daily rider for both freeway commutes and weekend fun times, but for more aggressive, tighter curves, the bike can feel more ponderous than I’d like. Great review of the Z650! Wouldn’t hesitate for a moment to recommend the Z or Ninja variant as a do-it-all machine.

    Question as I haven't seen it answered.
    For some context, I'm a shorter person at 5'7", and did own an '08 Ninja 650R (ER-6f or EХ-6 for the non-North Americans). I liked it - a lot (I bought it new), but had to sell it. I really enjoyed that bike.
    I didn't find the engine buzy (did find the fairing buzy, but Kawasaki added a dampening kit that cured it) - I felt the motor vibrations gave the bike a more lively feel and were well controlled that I had no issues riding it for extended highway rides (quite enjoyed doing long distance tours on it). I def do agree in that it's not the smoothest motor I've ever experienced on a motor cycle and certainly had the same jerky low speed throttle response. Truth be told, I'm not a fan of how it sounds of it at idle, but loved the intake growl it made when the motor came "on cam". I don't ride at idle, so no big deal.
    Anyways, I'm looking to get back into the sport, and obviously I'm looking at bikes I like (I find I'm a bit torn between the Z650, Z650RS (I feel Kawasaki nailed the retro look just right), and the Ninja 650 - we'll see what I opt for).
    Think I rambled on too much now, so with out ado...
    The only thing that truly bothered me on it was the rear brake - it had a wooden uncommunicative feel, making it extremely hard to modulate (the front brakes where really good though, and sounds like they kept that which is good). I can see the direct evolution of the original ER-6N and Ninja 650 bikes from 2005. Has Kawasaki improved the rear brakes modulation over the 19 years evolution?

I did notice the vibrations when I got it, but I think I've gotten used to it by now. I have noticed shifts are a little hard sometimes, but I think that may be due to operator error since I am also a new rider still. And I do think my bike my have an overheating issue, though it hasn't actually overheated, it gets anywhere between 210-220 on a 80° day when I'm not moving, and it only drops to about 185° while on the highway. Other than that, I like it a lot. I say it's a great first bike for any new rider,

    Most of the issues with throttle jerkiness, engine heat, any other operating conditions and control problems will be solved with an ECU flash.
    I had a stock FZ1 some years ago which I fully tuned. 129 peak to 150 peak hp. Bike used to get so hot in slow speed stuff and after the flash, never went above about 195°F while running SO much better overall.

    Former owner of a versys 650 (2011), i can say that, yes the engine is boring AF.. but there are some things i do like alot..
    1. On the highway, at around 130-160kmh, the bike is very annoying, feels the bike hates being at these speeds.. but above 160, its like riding on a cloud, suddenly the engine, chassis and transmmision just saying to you that that thing wants more throttle
    2. About the back tyres braking traction in corners, yes, its the best feeling ever, suddenly countersteering while the bike is powersliding..
    god i miss the versys.. 😅😅

    Most of motorcycles in the market today are fun to ride. It's a matter of what you want in terms of hp's, brakes, suspensions, handling, ergos and look. I have as much fun on my 2019 R3 than I have on my 2018 GSX-S1000F or my 2014 GSX-R600 or my 2019 Gold Wing even if I use them in a different way (Commuting, long rides, sporty rides, track). The Z650 is a good exemple of a practical motorcycle which does everything good without being excellent at anything.

    Good review, the ergonomics was a bit weird commenting though. You are clearly too big for this 650, but I would estimate on an MT07 it would be the same. I think maybe the way you sit and operate a naked bike is not ideal for your own preference, specially not on a smaller model like this. Please try the z900 and would to get your feedback on the Z900! Same feedback coming from the mirrors. You are just too big for this bike!
    The dash is indeed quite old fashioned, the new Kawa's have a much better TFT display and much nicer looking.
    Looks are a bit personal, i actually like the green frame. But if it's not your thing, you should not do it.
    What makes it beginner friendly is that it does not have most horsepower, but it is high on the torque and you have a lot of power low and midrange. It makes it easier as it you don't need to shift a lot.

  • @sergeimukhin9711

    I like this bike, it is really good for this class and price. On the freeway speed it isn’t comfortable because the bike is too light and doesn’t have wind protection at all. The most weird thing on this bike - gas tank in the manual is 4 us gallons, but in the real life according the gas pump it is maximum 3 gallons or even less🤷‍♂️ it just never doesn’t take 4. I did refuel when only 20 miles of range left, but it took only 2.88 gallons… So confusing. And the fuel level on the display shows it wrong all the time… By the range on display it shows 80 miles of range left, which is approximately half of the tank, but the marks of gas level shows only one mark like it is almost empty at same time and bike flashing that you need to refuel🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️ The second thing that I don’t like the buttons on the left are so small, it’s really hard to push the one that you need, especially in the gloves at night. I own 2022 model with normal display, normal head light and red/white colour. Not the most beautiful bike, but looks good in my opinion.

It was bought second hand and was well used when I got it. Apart from oil and filter changes it takes everything you throw at it without complaint. I am currently considering buying a new one but then this one has only done 70,000 miles and feels great. Vibration? I cant say that I have noticed but then my first bike that I actually owned was a 1955 Speed twin and then a TR6 Trophy 1959 model. I have only been riding since I was 16 with a full licence and that was 62 years ago I feel that you are looking for something to pick on. Look at Doodles road test on TH-cam.
