Hello, hello, and welcome back to Age of Wonders 4! The Draconic shenanigans continue with Smaug the Terrible continuing to establish his foothold in this mountainous realm. The final two players have been met at 15:00 and 1:16:46. Will we befriend these fellow Lords? Probably not. More importantly, Smaug has acquired his Major Transformation, and you can jump ahead to 41:41 to take a look at what level 12 means for Dragon Lords. Lastly, we saw a glimpse of the unlimited power I hope to one day wield at 56:20; the only problem is that it's not supposed to be used against me. Thanks for watching! (:
Now that you got your major transformation it might be interesting to revisit what Smaug looks like. I’d like to see how some of the options on scales, etc. look with your materium transformation.

On the bright side, we've discovered the counter to the Dragon Lords.
I find it funny that almost every lord in this party is a dragon but a human and the dreaded mole man, truly living by the meme.
I do think it is quite fun how the tome of revelry encompasses the two gods that have nothing but contempt for each other. Bloodlust but with an emphasis on the lust rather than the blood.
Should probably wait for just a full patch of the underground before going back to it.
Honestly in Elden Ring lanseaxx has those golden scales so I think the materium look works for them.
I have played a few games with Industrial so I will share some tomes that may fit for this playthrough I will try to keep it Chaos/Materium though
1. Goldtouched is a great transformation when you get to tier 4 tomes as it turns your people into gold (I have do not know all that much about Smaug but based off what you said he would love it) as it give 2 resistance which from my games my bastions usually only have 2 resistance which makes them die fairly easily to magic even though my Bastions had 200 health
2. Going Materium tier 5 would probably work best as the rest of the chaos tomes are Demon ones which you said you don't really want to do it would also give you eternal earth idk if that works with your leader but it might and 2nd it gives you a hero skill which would make your Heros way bigger and having a Giant Smaug might be really cool
3. Steel skin would make your Bastions even tankier as I did not have it in my game and my bastions were already tanking hits like nobody's business just be careful of lightning Damage
4. if you do grab a non Chaos/Materium Tome as other have suggested tome of warding which gives 2 cool things first is the 2 bolstered resistance for support units (it also makes the Healing spell on steel shapers not only heal and give strengthen it also makes it give 2 bolstered resistance so one buff from a steel shaper would give 2 defense and 2 Resistance then you use the healing skill would give that unit 24 health back 4x strengthen and 2 resistance and you can do this every turn with 2 steel shapers) and you also get warding transformation which if you use it could offset your lightning weakness as well as making your units even tankier against magic
anyway looks like a cool series so far hope Smaug gets to claim the world before someone else does

As far as the Materium spells are concerned, you read my mind! The very first thing I knew I wanted was Gold Touched. XD
I'm still trying to convince myself to get Tome of Warding, but it does seem extremely helpful from a gameplay perspective. Thanks for the insight! (:
@@Fableheim Your Welcome and yeah having a dragon with a living horde of Unkillable Golden dwarfs sounds quite cool. Tome of Warding is also probably one of the Better tier 1 tomes for making tanky units with the Bolster Resistance and basicly getting 2 free resistance to 3 damage types in a minor Transformation
Keep an eye out for a Hero with a support passive like "applies regeneration on buffs", with a few items those can become awesome healer replacements. Smaug would of course have a caretaker that cleans his scales. There is also the Flower of Life spell from the Fertility Nature Book and its passive but im not sure if that would fit the theme. Also im sure it was Blint who corrupted Alexstrasza, i can see it in his damn smirky face.

A mod that would give you more control over custom rulers would be useful. Like naming their capital.
I would 100% use it! I'd love to also be able to manipulate their Personality and starting level or just straight up create my own Presence Trait. :D
I'm not sure how much power the modding tools have but I hope modders crack the code some day.
I would like to see you place at least one city underground. There is too much lore and synergy with Smaug leading dwarves to not have a city underground. I learned watching another play through recently that you can use the same spell that tears down mountains to open up the underground walls that can not be cleared by normal means. I’m sure one of your many scouts could find a good location for the city under the mountain.
Speaking of scouts don’t forget that if they get attacked you can start the battle and then retreat off the map for a chance to save the unit, 40% I think.

My bet would be that the tenacious trait might be what keep the supposed dead units alives from the name (there was a 50% thing about hp in the description when overing over it). Maybe the answer will be in the next episodes.

This is my first time using Tenacious, so that could very well be a possibility. I'm still not sure why it's happening but I'm not complaining. XD
I played underground with "Small Underground" active, it was a pain. but with Massive Underground active, its was actually rly fun and u have enough space to get a fair bit into the game before u r out of space. If i intend to go for underground, i always go for massive Underground now.

I found massive limits to you one city underground (most other spots are 4 provinces or occupied), but regular underground makes it possible to do more than one underground. I made 3 cities in Crimson Caldera, AND assaulted Karissa and the Perv(I'm at work, forget his name) from underground while doing it. Anyhow, I hope you do Iratus underground, and I might suggest you just take an hour or two to test which way. My experience is largely pre-patch.
Anvil guards pull spears off your large units. That's why I said you got Bastions too soon. People tend to drop AG's as soon as they get Bastions.

An hour in, thinking "isn't the rule that he gets one retry per episode?" Feels like you could have breathed fire a step back and avoided that first gild.
I was going to retry if Smaug fell. In the end, the result was equivalent to the AI's result, so I just held it in. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You're definitely correct that I could've breath attacked from one tile back, and that was 100% the play.
Imagine Samug striking aliances with the other dragons and going to kill everyone else
I added a few too many dragons to befriend *all* of them, but Smaug can at least woo the Dragon Queen to his side. That's good enough for me. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Another great series so far. I see that stunlocks are still as big a deal in the new instalment.
Believe it or not, there's actually a lot less stunning than in previous titles, but I think that's more a testament to the sheer volume in the others. XD
Thankfully, there's only like 3 mind controls in the whole game unlike AOW3, where you could build entire armies from mind controlled units.
It would be cool if the sibling rescue event had slightly different text depending on if the rescue was by your leader, the sibling hero, or some other hero. Like if it is the sibling then it would be "thank you for letting me..." and if it was another hero "thank you for sending (name) to rescue my sibling."
That would be a great touch! Honestly, the events in general get quite repetitive, but I expect some more variety/touch-ups to be slowly introduced over future patches.

I'm planning on getting this DLC, dragon are my favorite fantasy creature, what are the chances that a character you create may end up as a NPC in a new game? just curious.
If you randomize, I think the game just rolls a dice between all premade characters, but you can manually select your opponents from the premade list or factions you have created, the latter of which is what I do every playthrough. I just don't show it in the video to create suspense. (:
Wait for patch
If you don't enjoy playing in the underground in it's current state then please don't. There isn't any reason to watch someone not having fun playing a game. At best it would just seem like you are going through the paces and let's be honest who wants to watch that and worst case scenario you would not like it so bad that you may say " I have had enough of this game I am not going to play it again at least till it's fixed." That would be a shame on missing out on a game you enjoy because you decided to try and play in a broken umderground.
So you can create One Dragon army, Smaug with Materium transformations might work, LVL 12 Materium turns part of your breath damage Physical, but, turning enemies into gold reminds me of time, when he was in that trap with giant statue.

Smaug has already proven himself to be quite the solo powerhouse, as long as he's not crowd controlled. It's a shame that in that video, they only really demonstrated the dragon going against tier 1/2 units. I think the dragon can definitely be a one many army in the late game, but you have to be cautious about natural counters, as I painfully learned in this episode.
