A high-speed police chase sprinted across the greater Houston area over lunch time, involving a 200MPH stolen Dodge Hellcat with a deputy's flying tackle ending the wild scene in a cow pasture.
Original chase: 10/13/17
It all started around noon when a suspect in a stolen white car led officers in pursuit along I-10. Speeds, at times, topped well over 100 mph. After roughly an hour, the suspect got off the freeway at the Winnie exit.
At about 1 p.m., the suspect pulled over to the side of Highway 73 south of Beaumont, and got out of the car. He took off on foot into a wooded area.
Officers searched for the driver amid the brush before he was spotted, walking casually and talking on his cell phone. A deputy tackled the man and he was taken into custody by helicopter.
Officers with Houston Police Department and at least one other Harris County agency began the pursuit. Texas DPS troopers, Chambers County Sheriff's deputies and the Beaumont Police Department helicopter assisted in the search.
The driver has been identified as Mohmed Ahmed Abu-Shlieba, 25. He was believed to have been armed during the chase. He was in a stolen vehicle, and had active warrants. There's no word on what new charges he may face.

@@sst6555that’s not it. It’s about clearance from ATC . The helicopter also does not have the fuel to fly at mil power for hours. And it doesn’t need to keep up. The camera is built for distance. There’s a lot of factors. And it’s a news helicopter it doesn’t have the clearance that the PD has to stay close. So many factors.
That driver really had full control over the car he knew what he was doing.

Unfortunately, it requires 5.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60, and its max speed is only 150. Any popular sports car can easily outrun this, not to mention EVs like Tesla Model S. Hell, my own boosted 370z, which is a 12yo car, can reach 60mph in 3.4s.

If you do some rough math, the chase was about 40 minutes long. And he traveled about 44-49 miles. Using that, and what we know about the car, he was averaging about 185-187 mph in that pursuit. The fuel tank is 18.5 gallons, considering that the owner had it on full, 18.5gal/40min = 0.46 gal/min. Thinking about these numbers really puts into perspective of how impressive it was that he managed to stay composed for that long, and the rate in which the Hellcat engine swallowed fuel.
What? That math would equal out to an average speed of 73.5 mph. And If he was averaging your conclusion of 187 mph, he would have traveled 124 miles total in 40 minutes.

If it weren't for the tracker on the car and him running out of gas, it's possible that he could've gotten away. Temporarily atleast. He was outrunning the helicopter, the police were left in the dust, the only way I could see this coming to an end is if they hit him with spikebelts. However, if he kept going long enough that the helicopter lost sight of him, he could've taken an exit and the police wouldn't know where he got off.
