Catching Snakeheads When the Bite is Tough (Maryland Snakehead Fishing)

  • Snakehead fishing is never easy, but some days have the snakes more active than others. On this particular day in early May, the snakeheads in Maryland were not very active at all. A lot of people would have seen the inactivity and called it quits after an hour or two, but personally I decided to put in the time and effort to catch these snakeheads, and it paid off.
In this video you'll see the tactics and strategies I used to catch both northern snakeheads and bass on a day where neither species wanted anything to do with the lures that I was putting in front of them. I tried a variety of lures to catch these Maryland snakeheads, but the one lure that I ended up catching everything on was the snakehead outlawz venom frog. You can buy them at this link: www.ebay.com/i...
If y'all want to see me and/or Matty return to Maryland for some more northern snakehead fishing, let us know down in the comment section! Also, let us know what tactics you use to get snakeheads to bite when the bite is tough!
IMPORTANT NOTE: While Snakeheads are a non-native species, biologists have discovered over the last few years that the damage they cause to the ecosystem is not nearly what was once expected. Many bodies of water containing these fish have successfully adapted to their presence. I encourage you to thoroughly research the data that is out their regarding snakeheads before you make an uninformed comment saying that we should have killed the fish. That being said, everyone is entitled to their opinion regarding these fish. We simply ask that your opinion be formed on actual data and research, not what you heard from a friend or read on facebook.
The body of water that we fished already has a healthy population of snakeheads. Killing a few fish would do absolutely nothing in regards to eradicating the species from that body of water. Instead, you'd be wasting the life of a perfectly good gamefish. Here at Orange 22 Fishing, we encourage you to practice catch and release on all species of fish, including snakeheads. We will continue to do so, and we hope you will do the same as well.
No matter your opinion on this topic, we do thank you for watching our video and supporting our channel!
    Tight lines,
    Dave and Matt

Can't get enough 'regular guy' (meant as a compliment) reality snakehead fishing. I can't wait to get back down there myself (I'm up in NJ). You'd think with all the fishing pressure & people keeping snakehead, they'd be gone by now, fished out! I'm glad for the fishing that they are so prolific.

I’ve tried bass fishing a couple times recently and they seem all confused from this weather. Seems like it’s messing up the spawn!

Awesome trip bro. Great call on moving. I fished that spot several times when the carp were spawning, thinking I could figure it out. I was wrong. I should have moved. That was still a decent top water bite given the conditions. Great work.

Thanks bro! Part of me wanted to stay and figure it out, but I felt it in my gut that it would be a struggle all day. I’ll be back to that spot, hopefully when the conditions are better.

Snakes and a bass pretty good there! I would love to see you toss a weightless fluke jerk bait in the shallows I have a feeling the snakes will romp on them!
