They damage the engine. If you put them on a diesel, it will send more diesel to the injectors, but will also send in more diesel when the engine is cold and trying to send in a bit more anyway - that causes far too much to go in and black smoke. really great video, there are better chips out there like Racechip but I'm thinking ECU remap is still the best if you are gona keep the car for a while.
What happened at the car test, when they discovered that you modified your car? This problem should also have been mentioned. The KCR box can be removed without leaving "traces" behind.
That tuning box "looked like" one off the cheap ones off eBay for £50...I spent £389...and it made a big difference......ECU mapping on a new car voids the warranty...and it always leaves a trace. But yes ECU remaps are better for a more personal mapping but for those who just want a bit more power a decent chip box will be a better choice especially if it's a new car so you don't void the warranty.
@@JankoLind yeah I noticed what you paid...it just looked like a cheap one off eBay...my TDI box looks more substantial...just better quality....and only wanted abit more power an to keep my warranty. 👍

playlistA jimenez I can vouch for this I removed a remap prior to my vehicle been inspected and The ecu file was sent off to the manufacturer who found nothing 👌🏻
Hold on a minute, what if you don’t want a permanent ECU remap but a temporary boost. What if I’m leasing the vehicle and don’t want a forever remap. What if as you say the car performance is better on a new vehicle BUT remapping the ECU means breaking the ECU seal and if you develop a problem then BMW will know you opened the ECU and you can say goodbye to your warranty. Now your lower grade tuning box makes all the sense in the world because you can remove it and take the car back to stock.
Hi Nick, I understand your point, but you never break the ECU seal when you remap your car. If you looking for a temporary boost a sunny day then perhaps the box is better, but it is not something I would recommend. Thanks for watching and subscribing.
I don’t think they are bad for the money only cheap at 50 euros you way overpaid for that box they are all the same those type they just increase the fuel pressure
Great video! Loved that you tested the two different ways to increase hp's and torque in a dyno rig. Most vids on boxesa re just crap. I bought a much cheaper chip, ProDieselChip which does the same thing, for my BMW 318d that suffers from a choked engine (150 hp while a 320d with the same engine has 190 hp's). Also bought a OBD2 scanner to be able to measure any Hp & Torque increase. They promise an average of 25% Bhp and 30% Torque increase BUT via the OBD2 scanner I only managed to measure 12% Hp increase and 15% torque increase after trying a multitude of settings, so that's disappointing. I still "feel" an increase in torque which is good but it's nowhere near the promised average increases, so lucky it was only 160€ with shipping. By the way - how do you insure the car after the tuning?
Are you sure they are the exact same engine ? I’m talking about the b47 engines with 150 and 190 hp. I heard they have slightly different injectors and maybe even a smaller Turbo. Couldn’t find a website yet to say for sure if that is true or not.
You didn't say how the car felt on the road after the ECU re-flash. That is what counts in the end. Were you happy with the final result and are you going to keep it?
You are absolutely right Patrick Felsted I did not say how the car felt... The car's character really changed to the better and I definitely kept the ECU mapping from Tuning Chip, an easy choice between the 2.

Same goes for tuning boxes. Some are dog shit, some work; some remappers know what they're doing and some don't.
I wouldn't take the risk tricking the ECU only to dump more fuel in whilst changing no other engine perimeters.
