Getting a remap / tune / chip on your car is getting more and more common these days, and since I've had some experience with them I thought I'd share my thoughts and tips about them. What is a remap? Pros and cons? Should YOU do it to your car?
Great vid, very informative. I’m looking to remap my bmw 116d sport. It runs lovely and it’s not without power as it stands but I’m hoping for a remap tune up to unleash those horses hiding in the stable
my warranty will run out in about half a year, so i 'm really thinking about getting it tuned a little... i have a 2L petrol mazda cx-3 with 120hp (detuned version of the 146hp model for economy/tax/insurance purposes, exact same engine -- i'm in western europe btw) and a standard remap will take it to 180hp and 214nm. i'm pretty sure i'd feel that difference..
ive got a 1.4 turbo corsa standard 120bhp 129lbs of torque stage 1 takes it too 170bhp and 200lbs of torque, do you think it will ruin the gearbox? as the gearbox isn’t the best
neel patel I don't know what the othet guy is Smoking but 200lb-ft will not ruin a gear box Definitely go fot the Remap and Enjoy it I've had every car I've ever owned Remapped some of which were pushing Close to 400lb-ft and no issues 👍
Hi, I do have bmw 116d 2013. And I’m thinking of Remapping it or tuning it. Just little but unsure with it because it has 100000km already, it’s save to remap it ?
I asked my insurance company and they point blank refused to cover me if I map my car! I know some are ok but mine said my insurance will be invalid if I tune it! Only got a DS4 at the moment and now looking at a new car and a 1 series like a 120d looked like I could pick up a good used one for about 13-14k

I have a Peugeot 208 gti, as it's a performance car already would you recommend getting a stage 1 remap. They are 200 standard and a remap takes them up to 230 roughly. But I don't want to risk damaging the car in anyway. Spoke to the tuning company and they seem like they know what they are doing. However he did say don't do anything more than a stage 1 without adding a new intercooler, clutch etc. As the original parts can't handle the power increase. Any thoughts?
I just bought a 2012 120d msport in black. 184bhp fucking floyd! Comming from a vw mk5 54 plate golf is a massive difference. Thinking about mapping soon aswell!
A lot of people say not to remap a small engined car (Polo MK5 1.2) but I did it anyway because there was a decent offer on over this festive period. Didn't 'transform' the car by any means but it did definitely eliminate some flat spots and there was a noticeable increase in acceleration. Would I say it was worth it? Depends on how much you pay. I only paid £80 (price slashed from £250) so for me it was worth it, wouldn't pay more though on a car like this.
Hi mate, thanks for sharing info on remapping. As I’m new to this. I’m thinking of doing it. I have mercedes c class coupe. Petrol 1.6. It is nippy, just interested if it would make a difference? Also can you recommend where I could get that done in around Essex? Thanks 👍🏼
I would appreciate any help with my question here, so i have a bmw 120d m sport. Currently trying to make it better but not stupid.. would you recommend a stage 1 remap?. I also have the manufacturers exhaust on it. Would i be better off getting a better exhaust if i did get the remap? Appreciate any help. Your video helped a lot thanks 👍👌
Stage 1 remaps generally fit in stock tolerances and most stage 2 remaps also are ok with stock, before the exhaust you'd probably want to change the intercooler if you really want to
The M135i uses the manual gearbox from the 1M, so very good. My issue with it was that it was too long! 73mph in 2nd! I'm buying an 8spd ZF M135i next week :)
Dr. Pug Yeah I've got the same, it's got such a smooth auto gearbox. One thing I which the 118d did have is the twin exhausts like I had on my 125i before hand. I think it fattens up the back end a bit more ha
Don't get a remap! Cons: You should tell your insurance which will cost you more. Your engine and gearbox might be fine but what about all the other stuff like driveshafts and flywheels? If you want a faster car why not just buy one that's built from factory to be reliable like that? I had an audi a5 tdi 170bhp mapped to around 200bhp and started getting flywheel issues a year later due to the increased torque. Just bought an audi s5 with 333bhp from stock and I think why didn't I just buy that to start with?
I think the point is to research the components in your car beyond just the engine as they are all rated at different tolerances. Many manufacturers use the same components for different engine power outputs so some cars can be remapped without much issue, others need components upgrading too. Insurers do charge more but it really depends what you are doing to your car, what car it is and demographic, mine, for example, is £15 a year extra for a stage 1 remap.
RM 77 get it done asap it makes the car feel complete, taking in account how low it is on power from stock. I got a stage 1 ecu map and went from 122 bhp to 175 bhp and the tq was upped but 100. It cost me around 250 quid

David Morse if your cars under warranty get a turning box you can remove it without trace before taking it to the dealers. Not as good as a remap but at least you can keep your warranty
Johnathon Graham don't do superchips man it's too much money for the little power increase. Go for an ecu map, cheaper and more powerful. Best mod ive done.

And i would not risk not being honest with the insurance company and voiding my insurance if i was involved in a crash and they checked my car to get out of paying me out,so i would choose a tuning box over any other tune so i can remove it fast myself. Dont do it , if you want more power then buy a more powerful car . If these remaps all great for a car then they would come with 100k warranty . Blown engines are not cheap to replace
When you buy a brand new car, diesel or petrol, ordinary or high performance any of these cars should be able to give you anywhere between a life of 150 000 to 250 000 miles if properly serviced and well taken care of...the moment you re-map the ECU be it with 20 bhp or 70 bhp more you are cutting down the life of that car by approximately 75%, which means if the car were to last you 12 years it will last you 3 until you begin to have problems. I re-mapped a Pug 206 turbo diesel that had 90 bhp up to 105 bhp that's only 15 bhp more at the most reputable place in Portugal and after 2 years of re-mapping it I began to have problems....so if you want to be a dick and ruin your beautiful brand new car that cost you hard cash that you made through days and months and maybe years of hard work then go re map the ECU ...and you'll end up in tears....or be a man and OWN the car you have because contrary to what your friends tell you more horse power does not make your dick grow.
Come on ‘Most cars in the UK are diesels..’ really?? well I got two words for you ‘Diesel Gate’ so for God’s sake put something interesting and informative in your posey vlogs..?!?
This invalidates your car insurance. If you declare the upgrade to your insurance provider, they will cancel your insurance. They will REFUSE to provide insurance cover. They will NOT amend the quotation. Big risk.

Purple Haze you have no idea what you are talking about
Lol this is bullshit
Lol Peugeot
Peugeot 206, that's the most error prone car model ever. I've never heard of a Peugeot without problems first of all.
You can't compare a fucking Pug to a BMW my guy, the fact its a Pug is probably the reason it starting crumbling lol
'You get what you paid for' whyd you buy a slow BMW?
Its cheaper,Buy slow BMW, remap it for 400€, get same result as High priced bmw most use the same engine.
😂😂😂
@@rpk1878 wouldn't get a 3cyl though. Agree with the logic on a detuned 4cyl.
Come on ‘Most cars in the UK are diesels..’ really?? well I got two words for you ‘Diesel Gate’ so for God’s sake put something interesting and informative in your posey vlogs..?!?
There is a stock car for every common demand. Unless you want to power your car on coal or uranium, tuning is pointless
This invalidates your car insurance. If you declare the upgrade to your insurance provider, they will cancel your insurance. They will REFUSE to provide insurance cover. They will NOT amend the quotation. Big risk.
Man you really dont understand much lmao.
Disel ? Is that how you spel disel ?
Disel car ???? Want to be faster and sports car ?? I didnt know that 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I have a 2009 1.8t petrol a3. Is it worth doing a remap?
LaidBackFella well yes definitely but be careful you might melt your front tyres unless you got a Quattro car.
@@ts6070 Nice one bro. Was thinking just a stage one, nothing too mental
