  • In this tying video, Kelly will walk you through the steps to tie one of his favorite new streamers: The Flatliner. This fly was designed to imitate an injured baitfish trying to right itself, and produces an irresistible action that will get the attention of some of the baddest predators in the ditch.

      Is it possible to tie this style fly with the keel type hook, similar to the Belly Bumper? (Dont know if thats the correct word), in an up hook design. I like fishing this thing around snaggy crap in Pennsylvania, pretty shallow and bad zones. Snaggy swamp Donkey water. Ole moss back under the log, as Kelly once said.

    WOW ! It took me 2hrs. to tie this with only 2 hook points in my fingers =) but it is all worth it .I ran it under some hot water and it looks awesome. Thanks Kelly and for the tip on how to fish it . IT'S WINTER IN ALBERTA now but cannot wait til spring.

    I’m loving the new series of videos Kelly. I own most of your tying videos, including a couple of VHS antiques. They are great, but do not compare to these new ones. So much information that has improved my tying all around, not just streamers. My dries, wets, and nymphs are all improved because of your pointers. Thanks for taking the time to share your hard-earned knowledge.

      Alan-
      We will look into it. It should be easy for a nymph or dry, but there might not be enough space for all the materials needed on an articulated streamer

    why do you tie the olive marabou on the side?Also my polar chenille is roughly 2" long ,should I trim it before I do my wraps?PS. By the way YOU inspire me to tie much better ,you are a fantastic teacher and mentor. Thank you Kelly.I enjoy watching you tie flies. ALSO, you don't babble much=). NOW I understand why the olive on the side.I don't have yellow material but I do have tan.

    Don't know if you are doing the question and answer thing still, but if you are, Id love to hear your opinion on clothing for fishing. I hear a lot of differing opinions for dark colors, light colors, etc. I do a lot of fishing on Blue Lines but also do a lot on tail waters and freestone rivers, and it seems like every time I go out or talk to somebody in the shop (I work at a fly shop in Knoxville) they are saying something different about this.

      I haven’t been fly fishing for trout long, but I think it doesn’t matter because if you move, the trout will see you. I fish a lot in the little river drainage in Townsend. The trout in those creeks are very spooky, so I mainly try to keep low.

    I really enjoy watching and learning new things when you demonstrate new patterns and old
    I have a question, have you every tied your patterns on tubes and compared them to the same pattern on hooks. Thanks again.

  • @SamDiscovers
    @SamDiscovers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have you or has anyone tried tying this pattern on a 45 degree angle? If so has anyone had any success or seen some interesting swim characteristics? I really like horizontally tied patterns like this for those 'dying minnow' looks... tying it on a 45 might give it more wobble, no?

      I am curious about this too. I was surprised that this fly didn’t have a bend in the front hook. It sounds like you fish it much like the Swimmy Jimmy.

    • @TheSlideinn
      @TheSlideinn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Should be fine with the 8089, it is a bit more of a stinger style hook so I would just adjust how far back you tie in your articulation so it doesn't kink your tail section down.

    Awesome fly! Super fun to fish as you mentioned. I had a lot of success with it on it a lake in Patagonia where I caught 2-27" browns and a handful of others in the 20-24" range on it in the same day when I figured out the browns were keying in on juvenile rainbows. Cast out 60-80 feet, let the sinking line sink for a few seconds, start ripping on it, and watch big browns come up off the bottom and absolutely crush it in the crystal clear water. Unfortunately I only had one and the articulation wire gave out after about a dozen or so browns over 20". Most of the fish in this video were caught on this fly: th-cam.com/video/WtVLI9Oyu2c/w-d-xo.html #whitefishlivesmatter
