  • @alc609
    @alc609 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You brought up a good point about seeing the fly…would you consider using a white or cream synthetic for the wing? Would make it more visible in rough water where I’m at.

    • @TheSlideinn
      @TheSlideinn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could for sure. I would still run the deer hair wing just to be closer to the true color of a caddis, and then tie a little piece of whatever synthetic you like for vis over the top (kind of a hot spot). That will make it so you can see it better, but keep the true color and profile the same.

    I really struggle with my hair spinning around my hook when I go to whip finish. I do the two wraps, pull extremely tight, and everything looks good. But then when I whip... the entire bundle of hair spins.

    • @TheSlideinn
      @TheSlideinn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      T O guessing you are losing tension moving forward. After you do the two tight wraps try doing two more right thru the head. Should not do much to the shape of the head and should secure your head down to the body. Are you working on a bare hook or is there dubbing under the wing?. KG

    Am I missing something? How is this different than the elk hair Caddis video from a year or so ago? Longer shuck? Just wondering.

    • @TheSlideinn
      @TheSlideinn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dan
      I don’t believe we did a elk hair caddis last year, but the x caddis differs from it because it doesn’t have a hackled body and also has the additional shuck.

    It seems that no matter how tight I pull, my deer hair will end up spinning around the hook. What am I doing wrong?

    • @michaelmessier5780
      @michaelmessier5780 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure the hook is dubbed at the tie in point of the wing to give it something to grab on to. It's sure to spin on a bare hook. Once the wing has been attached with perpendicular wraps, run the thread through different sections the flared head 2 to 3 times before tying off.

    • @TheSlideinn
      @TheSlideinn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tyson
      Make sure your thread is very secure before you set your wing, if you dub a thin body to set on you will still need to make sure it is really tight and hitched off so there is nothing lose under the wing. Also make sure your pinch the hair really tight between your finger and thumb and don't release the thread tension until you have several turns to the eye. KG

    You should make clear that the stacker that you promote in every show is owned by you and that you benefit financially from its sale. Your promotion of a tool available to all turns into a sales pitch. That'd not ethical. I did not know that you had a propriety interest in the Swinger Stacker until you casually mentioned that you owned the company at the end of one video. You state that "This is the best stacker there is," but gives no mention that you benefit from the sale. A simple statement when you decide to promote the stacker would clear up an ethical omission. I assume that you do not have a propriety interest in the hooks. thread, other tools, the hair from Natures's Spirit, or you would say so.. Your show is most helpful to an old time tyer, like me, but the promotion of a product that you own hurt's your persona who comes across as an decent, genial expert who willingly shares his knowledge. I think of Bob Quigley, who generous taught me. in the early 1970's.

    • @TheSlideinn
      @TheSlideinn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmmm, Well Robert I believe I have mentioned that about a half dozen times? Including how I bought it from my good friend John Nicosia, because he was selling it, and I had been using and promoting it for ten years before he sold it to me and i was saying the same thing then as now. Sorry if you feel i have sold my ethical sole by not doing a legal omission before showing the product. Frankly I feel your suggestion of me being in some way disingenuous to my viewers to make money on it is a crook, but thanks for watching anyway. Kelly

    • @robertolmstead8193
      @robertolmstead8193 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the prompt clarification. I have been watching your videos for only two months so I missed the back story of your buying the stacker from your friend and that you had been praising the tool for ten years previously to that. I had no way of knowing that. And my comments only pointed to what I perceived as an omission, never to your ethical soul which is none of my business. I now plan to buy my own Swinger Stackers. And I like your willingness to wonder off in your digressions. They are as good as the actual directions. I'll keep watching.

      I'm blown away by this comment. Dude puts up thousands of hours of mostly (maybe entirely) "commercial free" content...to help us out. Who cares if he promotes items in his shop, whether he owns them or not. This is a platform for TheSlideinn to direct viewers to buy stuff from the shop. That's a given. It's the way it works. We get access to a legendary fly tyer and almost endless free content. Hopefully, the Legend makes a few bucks and keeps cranking out bad-ass, "free" content. Welcome to 2020.
