Porsche Mission X: The quickest road-legal car in the WORLD!

- Meet Porsche’s all-new all-electric hypercar!
This is the Mission X. It’s Porsche’s first hypercar since the 918 Spyder, and it’s got some pretty lofty ambitions! Porsche is hoping the Mission X will set the record as the fastest road-legal car to complete a lap on the Nürburgring!
So let’s take a closer look at this incredible EV. Starting with the looks, this is easily one of the most subtle hypercars we’ve ever seen. Porsche wants to show that hypercars don’t just have to look aggressive, and can still hit incredible speeds without being plastered in huge aero. Up front, the most notable design feature is the vertical bars that’ll make up the headlights and indicators. Along the side, it’s easy to see how the Mission X has been inspired by the 963 racing car, as it’s very low and very long. Take a step around the back and the rear end is dominated by an absolutely huge diffuser, which will help the Mission X create more downforce than the new GT3 RS!
If anything, the interior of the Mission X is wilder than the exterior! The bucket seats look futuristic and properly figure-hugging, while the steering wheel makes Tesla’s yoke look prehistoric, coming plastered with a number of buttons and dials. We’re not so sure about the white handles though - they just scream dirt magnets to us! Thankfully though Porsche has kept up with some traditions - you’ll still find an analogue stopwatch up on the dash!
When it comes to performance stats… Well, Porsche hasn’t revealed them yet. But one thing we do know is it’ll have a power-to-weight ratio of 1,000hp per tonne. So all we know is, it’s likely to spill over to around 1,300hp+! But then again, it’ll need to if it’s going to beat the Nürburgring lap record currently held by the AMG ONE!
So what do you think - would you pick this over the AMG ONE? And could it beat the Nürburgring lap record? Stick with Mat and take a closer look for yourself!

Ideally this isn’t even close. Mission x all day
918 has to be one of the most beautiful timeless cars ever built
Agree!
I find it much more aesthetic than the Mission X which misses the streamlined beautiful line-flow Porsches are known for. Although I can see Porsche DNA in the concept, I don't find the sharp angles and sudden "breaks" of curves/lines as appealing as the design of the 918 (reminds me of Lamborghini etc...)
Hope they make the overall design of the Mission X less "sharp" to align it more with the rest of their line-up.
Agreed, my personal favourite looking supercar of all time.
CGT was better imo
Followed up closely by rimac nevera
@@sauravchhabra840 the nevera's front end is pretty damn ugly in my opinion
6:42 for the people who dont know; Matt says the 918 has a twin turbo V8, but it has a naturally aspirated V8.
yeah kind of ashamed to think he's an automotive journalist or at least considered one
@@R3DLiFE I think he just misspoke because pretty much all performance cars today have a twin turbo V8. He's probably used to saying that given he's reviewed a lot of cars.
He ain’t a motor journalist more of just a presenter
His car knowledge is quite limited. He is a great entertainer, Thats it 😅
And the 900 volt system of the mission x hasn’t the double capacity oft the Tycan, turbo s who has a 800 volt system
Making the aero covers clear is a genius design element! I didn’t even notice them until he mentioned it had them. Amazing design from Porsche as always .
Mission X is one of the greatest ever built. Instant icon. They really need to produce these.
How can you say it’s the greatest ever built if it hasn’t been built yet?
Imagine a garage with the 959, the 911 GT1, Carrera GT, 918 and the Mission X
and 962 Dauer LM (street version)
that right there is life goals
Arab sheiks, russian oligarchs and some other tycoons' garages with like 200 cars lol
yeah that garage would have to be something special!! I'm imagining a contemporary design with clean lines, loads of natural light, electric garage doors and plenty of storage so no clutter... Imagine the house that would have a garage as nice as this?! What kind of heating do you imagine? Do you imagine a pool? Indoors, outdoors, or both?!!! This channel really needs more architecture content. Great contribution @midknight
yeah.... we just need new Test Drive Solar Crown and it is quite feasible ;)
Sorry to be that guy but the 918's V8 is naturally-aspirated (6:43) and the AMG ONE's V6 (5:17) is modified from the actual engine used in the F1 car to satisfy emissions regulations when running idle and to prolong its usable life.
Was looking for this comment haha, and yes, the 918 is most certainly N/A
of course it is. also the fuel is totally different and an actual f1 engine wouldnd last very long
@@th1nk_outside I alluded to the usable life of the engine in my opening post. To claim that the fuel is "totally different" is a stretch. It's been about 30 years since the FIA mandated that fuel in F1 had to meet EU standards for that you could get at a petrol station. There are a couple of trade secret differences between pump and F1 fuel but you're looking at a small percentage variance.
The days of running jungle juice fuel in F1 such as 80% toluene are long gone.
@@dazzlernator well its secret right? so we dont know...

It definitely looks exciting, I definitely have to say I was hoping for one more Porsche supercar that had an ICE engine/hybrid before they went fully electric
Headlights look a bit like the Audi R18 TDI. What a gorgeous looking machine 😍
The 918 Spyder has a naturally aspirated 4.6 L V8 engine, not a twin-turbo V8 👍🏻

I love how all these cool companies keep one-upping each other so frequently now.
Those scaffold tail lights are bad ass!
5:45 for those not in the know, everyone who drove that car that day, broke it. It had a fault and for top gear they pulled out a spare car and that broke too. Those AMG One's are fragile AF.
It's a *1.6L* F1 engine. Of course it's gonna be harder to make it reliable. The lifetime of an F1 engine is *NOT* the same as a road car, this is well know. Maintenance as well. Stop hating

I have a strong feeling Rimac had his fingers in this, at least electric powertrain part... And why Rimac Nevera wasn't mentioned in this video when clearly Nevera is what Mission X is aiming for? It has almost 800hp/ton, it's road legal, just set 23 acceleration and braking records. And it has been seen at Nordschleife, so they might be going for that AMG One record time.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Also as Rimac is now responsible for Bugatti.
@@rlarnoas is Porsche. Rimac owns 55% and Porsche 45% of Bugatti. And Porsche holds an additional 24% of Rimac
This is exactly what I was waiting for the entire video. Considering Mat's reaction when he drove the Nevera....the JV with Porsche, the electric powertrain that will at least be heavily influenced by Rimac, if not an iteration of the Nevera....how in the world was a race between the Nevera and this car on the 'Ring not the main point of this entire preview. The Porsche Aero vs Nevera powertrain/technology will be the only thing that matters when this thing sets a lap record. Mat's still stuck thinking of Pagani, Bugatti and the establishment as the only competition.
I dont think so reallyy that cars either are thought to Drive round circuits

The Koenigsegg Josko non-Absolute is an absolute downforce-monster and has similar power to weight as the Absolute sooo that might be crushing as well :3
Might be, the difference is. Porsche has german engineering, all the experience and dominated in all classes of Motorsport Racing they attended.
Only 8 seconds between the AMG1 and a 911 GT2RS MR. That's insane

until it says pure electric
I’m surprised you went with the bolide as a comparison and not the Valkyrie, not even a mention 😮
Looks stunning, with accompanied performance. In tradition with Porsche supercars of yesteryears!
That 919 Street though 🔥
imagine the car with a newly developed and totally unexpected combustion engine. Something like a flat 8 hybrid system. Or even a flat 12 as a homage to the legendary 917.
I really don´t know if the purely electric powertrain is the best decision but on the other hand they are Porsche - they usually know what to do.
That is just the thing, combustion engines have been developed for a century, there seems to be little space for innovation, its all been tried or done. While electric drive train are but a decade, really. Much more chances to play around and get the edge over the competition.
Or, hear me out, an H12. Yeah. None of you remembered those ones, did ya.
@@rlarno yeah, it took around 100 years for combustion engines to be tried just about every way. As for EVs, it lost its innovativeness the second the first ev rolled out. Mission x or Nissan e leaf, it's just basically an ev battery inside.
@@yuropean_eunion2133 for evs isn´t really that much room for innovation. At least not in the way combustion engines can be innovated, refined and experimented with. But my main Problem with EVs ist the lack of emotions while u want just to have fun driving and the secound thing ist that i have - to this day - not seen a single beautiful electric car. I mean if they try to sell these EVs to us they could at least not make them this ugly.
@@rlarno look at the Koenigsegg free valve engine in the gemera, it's clear there are still improvements to be made. Unfortunately now electric is more a political question rather than purely technical
Looks beautiful and should be even better than the Lotus Evija, a modified version on which is now targeting a Nurburgring record, but in non-road legal trim with side skirts and a massive rear wing on it. Personally I think the McMurtry Speirling would be even faster round the 'ring. But I'm most excited about Toyota' s upcoming solid state battery MR2. Oh and Bolide is not pronounced like "collide", it's "Boleed".
I'm surprised he wasn't able to drive it. Matt drives everything!!

6:44 It is a common misconception that the 918 Spyder has a Twinturbo V8. But that V8 is actually naturally asperated. Many just assume since it is a hybrid and the P1 has a twinturbo V8.
Electric? glad you mentioned that towards the end.... or i would have gone to one of your other videos sooner!
I was under the impression that we would be getting performance specs later in the video. I guess we will have to wait. No biggie. Typical for Porsche they will under promise and over deliver. Excited to see what it will do.
i mean yeah, because the 911 turbo s had a claimed 0-60 of 2.6 when it is actually 2.1 in reality
It is nothing but conceit on their part and I, for one, love it.
Think of how super quick the new 911s are then think of that 🤯
Showed the Gemera when talking about crazy aero on hypercars when they shouldve shown the Jesko Attack, then later snubs it again when saying the Bolide is the only car that can compete on a track after just saying the Jesko Absolut has a high power to weight 🤔
Great video from Matt. The only issue is that the statement about the charging voltage of 900V is somehow twice that of a Taycan is not true. The Taycan has a 800V architecture. I am not sure the charging curve or max Kw rating.
I was searching for this comment… There is something wrong with this sentence in the video.
This comes as a surprise! Absolute madness, I hadn't expected that. This car, if it is produced, will probably absolutely once and will destroy everything in a carwow drag race. I'm absolutely sure of that - it's a Porsche!

Projekt one and Mission x …Stuttgart is cooking
I'm probably the only old school person here, but for me, the moment I hear, "It's all electric", I shed a little tear of sorrow for the petrol engines I love.
I have yet to see any of those "Bugatti killers" actually.. you know.. drive : Devel Sixteen, Jesko Absolute, and now Mission X
The day I’ll see a road car being filmed actually going faster than the SS300+ doesn’t seem like it wants to come.
Amazing engineering again from Porsche, but I’d much prefer they further develop their synthetic fossil fuel tech, so they’d be green but we lose none of the drama of a combustion engine, especially a V8/V10! And we might then be able to keep our current cars without having to go fully electric…..
No, synthetic fuels is trying to cling to the past while Porsche are looking to the future
@@BAC_Mono the sensation of driving a car with a combustion engine, the noise, the vibrations, changing gear etc are all lost in an EV…..so for proper petrol heads I’d say synthetic fuels are the future

This new Mission X sounds great 😊. I'm still a 911 turbo S guy though
9:52 What's a 900V charging capacity?
V = Voltage
Capacity = C = 1F (Farad)
Usually people use capacity wrong for the amount of electrical energy you can store in a battery pack. (kWh)
But Voltage doesn't make any sense at all.
Also a Taycan Turbo S has 800V. So the Mission X is not double.
Edit: I googled and I guess what Matt wanted to say is: The Mission X charges twice as fast as the Taycan Turbo S.
@Matt: I hereby sentence you to physics tutoring!
🤓
6:42 uhm the 918 certainly did not have a twin turbo V8. you might wanna correct that.
Hi Mat, great video as always! But lol when you say Bugatti BoLITE, please ask a French colleague 😂
holy shit it's ALREADY that time? my god it's been 10 years already.
Fun fact: In November 2021, Porsche and Rimac successfully finalised the formation of a joint venture between Rimac’s hypercar division - Rimac Automobili - and Bugatti Automobiles.
The omissions of the joint venture and technology sharing are mind blowing. You see Rimac all over here. Bugatti Rimac und Porsche are not competitors. They share.
I wish the headlights were designed like the porsche 963's, horizontally. it makes the car look more elegant and sleek while the mission x's headlight design looks like it drew inspiration from Cadillac :/
Great video Mat!
In all these comparisons, why isn't the Rimac Nevera mentioned? They are both electric & the Rimac is road legal too. Plus, it's crazy fast!
Because they are bullshiting !
Because rimac is very slow on track in comparison.
@@zygbeee8563 okay. What parameters were used to determine the rimac being slow on track though? Last I checked, the rimac has about 2000hp & is the fastest accelerating vehicle in the world with a top speed of 219mph. Besides, the porsche mission X has no official performance figures yet

but i still expect a concept soon which is also electric but with a hydrogen fuel system. Porsche invested massively in this and that car should be much lighter than a electric batteries car.
hydrogen definitely has its downsides (energy efficiency on top of that list). but for sports-cars that might not be the biggest of a concern. i'm really curious.
The issue with H2 is that the fuel cells can't generate enough power, hence a FCEV always has a battery.
Not sure about H2 combustion, I guess that is just too much 'rocket' fuel and too dangerous?
@@rlarno i am not an expert but as far as i know you can control the buring of hydrogen much better than gasoline. hydrogen tanks have a intentional weak point and instead of an explosion there is just a hole where the burning gas shoots out - in an intended direction. Gasoline on the other hand can spread and keep burning.
I would expect for combustion H2 engines to have similar intended breakpoints.
but i agree H2 is dangerous
thanks for the info about h2 fuel cells

The Mission X seems to compare much better to the Rimac Nevera. Although the Nevera has "only" around 832hp/t aswell.
Yeah and the Nevera is only that heavy due to the biggest EV battery in any car.
