I started a photography and videography business right out of high school. My dad repeatedly mocked what I did and said I was only “playing” and needed to get “a real job.” Fast forward 9 years later, I now make 4X more than he ever did and I may be the only child able to financially help take care of him in his old age. He recently retired and moved out of state. Before he left, he hugged me while crying and said “I am proud of you, and I am proud of your business.”
What a story! That’s amazing. So glad you didn’t quit. That’s what I mean about other people’s fear… he feared the situation. He feared you would be a starving artist. You didn’t let his fear bring you down.
Love this so much!! Well said! Especially with how quickly the world and jobs change, what was a “normal” job 20 years ago may not being a normal job now.
Ha I thought the same after I filmed this one... feel kinda like the coach. Guess it's because I'm a dad as well. Thanks for watching and being here! Cheers to your journey.
Coming from the same boat, this is extremely relatable. Sometimes it puts me in a place where I question what I'm doing, while in other times I see it as motivation. It's always nice to hear that others can relate to your feelings. This was a great talk, thank you for sharing!
We always have to remember we're not alone. I felt like others needed to hear and feel that as well. I felt the pressure of "getting a real job" for nearly 3 years. I almost quit back in 2018 but I didn't. Don't give up buddy. Keep going!
Very well said, I picked up camera in 2014 while being a brilliant accounts student, everyone said me but somehow my parents said okay let him do what he wants for a few years. And here we are I'm also a full time media guy. Have an amazing day dude, fantastic video.
Whoa that's awesome dude! Great parents to just let you do your thing and find your way. Congrats on making it full time. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Simply inspirational, Trent bro. It takes a certain quality and makeup to be able to weaponize discouraging remarks like that and turn it into fuel. I think we all experience this pursuing down this path. Regardless, I'm glad you've found that point of stability and are reaching back to help people walking behind you! Salute.
Thanks brother 🤘🏼 that’s it for sure. Don’t let others’ fear be your discouragement. Turn it into fuel. Thankful to be able to speak these words to others who are starting out and need encouragement. Appreciate you being here bro!
dope video man really remember when I had conversation with my dad on becoming a filmmaker as career, and how my dad was afraid of the outcome of my future and I remember telling him I will show him 😂 I am not making thousands from my videos yet but I am seeing that everything is going workout in the end.
Hey you gotta be honest with yourself and others that you’re pursuing this and you’re going to make it work! Keep going man. You can absolutely do it. It’s a journey, but a very worthwhile one.
