    most of us are e7's: we fear being tied down and rely on evasive tactics when cornered. as such, it does not occur to us to value ni as an anchor. but there always comes a time when we cannot run anymore. when incapacitated and alienated, our only agency is in ni. ni needs no ti explanation. ni exists in the absence of any defining fi. ni is our "i am". at some deep, rarely explored level, we know what ni is, and what it is not. when there is no escape, there is no greater peace or strength than ni. ni will always be home. until we can escape, neither shall we be moved.

      Hello! I see this is from years ago but it interests me. I know ENFP is often associated with e7 but I am an an ENFP 9. As an Enneagram scholar for many years, and more recently studying MBTI, I think of the differences between ENFP 7 and ENFP 9. I believe most 9s have more access to what they truly want but resist asserting it, whereas 7s have more naturally assertive force but less access to knowing what they deeply want. I’m being a bit simplistic, but wondering what you think?

    Totally agree, sometimes it's gut feeling that reveals something I cannot explain. My brain starts searching for why the feel occur and my Ne-Ti comes up with the most morbid reasons to why, in order to explain it.

    I have been looking so long for a term for this. I delve into this so much, literally everyday, and I just termed it as melancholy, but it's not sad. It's just a dark thing that stimulates me mentally and keeps me interested in things. It's so hard to explain, I appreciate you delving into it though. I feel more understood.

      Melancholy is more longing with the clothing of sadness than it is sadness. It's a sad longing

    The Buddhists might type Ne as monkey mind, or the untamed bull. They might see Ni as satori, or insight into the buddhanature. But if you try to chase the bull, it will only grow wilder in its attempts to slip the harness.

    imo intuition + Si = introverted intuition
    intuition + Se maybe? = extraverted intuition

    "An ENFP and ENTP is always looking at introverted intuition wondering WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT" - basically me wondering what the fuck my INFJ friends are about to concoct or get themselves into when we are out partying.

    Thank you thank you THANK YOU! I've been trying to understand myself better as an ENFP, and this totally original explanation that came out of your mouth feels like it fits perfectly in describing my approach to life. I tested as having very strong (~90%) intuition and perceiving but only ~55% extraverted and feeling. I feel like this may be because I focus on and think very critically about my vision/direction (introverted feeling) using my extraverted intuition. I often think, if I could take my life in all these possible directions, if I could set any goal, what would be the best goal to set? I feel like my emotions are tied very strongly to this vision, for example this path has lead to me becoming vegan, but frankly ever since starting it hasn't been very difficult for me. Maybe enfp's introverted feeling is tied to their introverted intuition trajectory? Idk this is all speculation. Anyway thanks so much again.

    It's my first time I uncoutered mbti, because my gf told me she's an ENTP, whatever it means. Now, after I've watched this video, I wonder if this is some kind of sect, special interest group of poetry or the author was simply stoned. Anyway I'm a little bit afraid. Could any of you explain me what all of these metaphors relate to? What the hell is he talking about?

    • @pebblebrookbooks4852
      @pebblebrookbooks4852 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Gromoslaviak not the best vid to introduce you to mbti. erik probably sounds like he's throwing a bunch of buzzwords at you, and it doesn't help that his type likes a lil poetry, either. I'm also entp, so I'll venture to guess that your gf likes mbti bc it's a framework that helps her understand how and why ppl do the things they do (and maybe it helps her be nicer to stupid ppl).
      mbti is no cult; it's a tool used in human resources contexts like strengths finder, but for some reason mbti draws more zealous devotees. maybe bc it has jungian origins, idk.
      a lot of us started w/keirsey's please understand me, but I feel better referring you to the ladies themselves - intro to type by isabel briggs myers and katharine d. myers. do some research on your own and come back to erik when you feel like most of the terms have been defined for you. then you can separate the theory from his enthusiasm and decide for yourself if you want to explore further.
      it's truly fascinating and it will rabbit-hole you, so you may not want to continue on that basis alone. most of us would probably consider ourselves enthusiasts (old school use of the term - really, really into my hobby!) and we forget how that comes off sometimes.
      oh and btw, anyone who says they're a practitioner is just qualified to administer and help you interpret the test. it's not like "reiki practitioner" or "yoga practitioner" where there's an implied healing ability or spirituality associated w/ the philosophy. mbti practitioners just want to make a lil money doing the tests and some business consults, and do it in an official capacity.

    • @lukalisjak2106
      @lukalisjak2106 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gromoslaviak that's way too much for a beginner :) it will take you a couple of months to learn what the functions (extroverted intution, introverted intuition) mean, then you'll have to understand what different positions mean (dominant, shadow etc). the third level is to understand how a type relates to different functions in different positions, and what's the role of the unconcious functions (not accounted for in classical mbti, but laid out in socionics). and only at the fourth level, you might get this video (although I'm not sure how much sense it makes if you're not an enxp ... I'm a very rationalistic person, and yet every word in this video relates to my experience and I know precisely what he means; which is another indication that mbti/socionics works; it's by far the best tool for self-knowledge i've come across so far)

    The most frustrating thing for me as an enfp is that we're illogical??? Huh? So up until recently I let this stereotype take hold.. I would of agreed I'm just a compassionate people person. A "dreamer". Irrational, but extremely likeable. Then I started a journey of debunking the myths for a better understanding of myself.. Damn near failed high-school due to monotonous course work in this deep stubbornness of reiterating and showcasing. Once I grasp something I move on. Just hand me the test and lets me move on... For example beyond PEMDAS in algebraic equations. What else do you really need to know? If I don't have the value for x and am not given the answer to the equation... What's the point? So why don't we spend 4 weeks repeating this work out and simplifying a question... That has no solution 😕??? Is that unlogical of me to think that way. If you can identify whether a solution is possible instantly upon looking at the equation? Simplifying something for nothing??? My mind seeks fruit for its efforts, not recognization for the mundane. Once this process starts in my mind. 2 more labels enter. Inattentive and lazy.... ??? Am I Inattentive or not paying attention to things I already have grasped. Am I lazy because I seek additional knowledge from the room or the squirrel outside the window? To us perspective through a variety of people and avenues isn't a choice it's a necessity! Subliminally, abstractly, conversationly, body language and all the other various ways you can refine logic thoughts or theories... What if you know what someone is going to say before they finish saying it??? Is that even possible... What if you engaged in thousands of deep conversations and your retention for variations and different perspectives is extremely high? Who writes books, who supplies facts, who provides everything we know about this world and how we see it?? People???? Accumalation of people and perspective. Through exploration, research of everything in our environment?? Is ones logic limited by the resources, environment, and perspectives they've subjected themselves too? Of course! Does it mean that enfps are illogical beings for seeking more and sacrificing a need to conform for doing so?? I've taken numerous tests to find out. General Iq 145- 150. Logical thinking top .3. Top 2 percent of 8 out of 9 types of intelligence. Top 35 percent of in computation because I'm disslexic and takes additional time to process written questions. Do I like to brag about this not at all. It would limit my ability to acquire additional knowledge and could negatively affect my communications with others. We hate to flaunt because we truly don't think we're better then anyone and to us nothing is absolute! Because of this it may appear that we leave business unfinished but in reality we have made it far enough to to see a majority of the outcomes and we venture elsewhere to be able to see additional possibilities. We are not oriented to singular objectives. Our objective is people and a better understanding. A task that has no end and has already made positive impacts on the lives of many. For simply understanding we can't truly understand. This is about enfp's so I share to empower those that feel belittlement. No self promotion! You're depth and respect for enfp's is truly remarkable Erik. 👏 You see us better then we see ourselves sometimes! Much respect and appreciation for your perspective and I thank you so much for all your accumalations and empowering videos. We tend to have a completely different view of ourselves and you have been instrumental to my recent journey! Much love for your channel! #1 in my book my friend!

    I don't understand Ni.

    • @ErikThor
      @ErikThor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ni is an energy of internal openness and wide/deep thinking, philosophy, existential ponderings, reflection, perspective-seeking, conceptualisation. ENFPs and ENTPs can go into this function, but need to be brave to do so, because Ni is a lot more passive and Ne likes to remain in movement at all times, and feels less stable when it sits still or waits. So Ni tends to bring about uncertainty or insecurity in an ENFP or ENTP, challenging your natural state but also feeding you energy at the same time. Usually, it's something ENFPs and ENTPs deeply need to fuel their mind and increase their awareness. It can really feed your Ne when used right.
