    Today we're talking ENTP procrastination and laziness. What's the pride in an easy victory? And why do ENTPs make things so easy for themselves?

      While I agree that sometimes a subtle, almost subconsious, fear of failure can be an attribute to an ENTP's inefficient utilization of potential; I believe, the ease with which ENTPs conquer the more 'challenging' challenges gives them a false sense of security or a conjured feeling of inevitable success that prevents them from putting in the apt amount of effort and focus in the more tedious early stages/ prerequisites of execution.

    It is not a trap, we are not wasting our time. We are not wasting time in ”careers”. Life is short and an ENTP is simply maximising their free time by working as little as possible. The definition of success in life is different for us all. Avoid telling what I must do...

But this year i decidet what i really want is just to challenge myself. Am now almost a straight A student. And doing really well in politics where i crush 20-30 year old people in debates. I'm 17 and I'm drifting too. I've recently been trying harder to do more than just exist. I'm getting decent grades but my parents expect more but aren't on my neck about it. I see no point in anything and my nihilism mixed with depression and I spent the last two years miserable and simply existing. But this year I've been putting in effort into art, into philosophy and school now. I still see no point in anything but I've been telling myself that's OK and I've been happier and I'm starting to see where I'm headed. Still miserable tho lol😂.

    You said it and as much as I dislike the truth, you're right. I'm an ENTP myself and younger I used to be more adventurous and built huge goals for myself even achieving some. Now I just have felt pushed back by the reality that things will not be as easy every time and the adulthood was a slap in the face for me and my dreams. I wanted to be a teacher and I have always known I'd be great at that job if I worked myself towards that profession. My skills have mostly went to being able to figure out (and sometimes even escape) all my debts and responsibilities which is just depressing because if I didn't screw up at some point I might be doing much greater things. This video was facing the harsh reality of my own actions. I will get up and start working towards my goals again and I will do it immediately. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Right now.

      This very practical and focus clarification of an ENTP has gotten to all my roots, simply because I have had many ideas taken to the 3/4 of completion and being afraid to Sell it and answer to myself of the not so good product.
      Sadly to say, I have seen my ideas taken to reality some years later for other people who thrived to the end.
      I have seen other videos nowhere close to this definition and the not only pointing out the bad side of ENTP, but a simple ways to achieve our goals and improve....this is where I needed some help....not to be drifting and maka a plan...only one at a time.

    I agree getting to the top is an adventure in itself and discipline is a great virtue that all us ENTPs should revel in but the reason we do what we do is because we get bored with dealing within the same category for to long. Even with growth and trials we begin looking for a new adventure. A new flavor. Life is exciting and changing why not try on all the hats. In the end we want to have the most spectacular memories but yes money helps and to get money we need to build that platform well so we can have it all.

    • @sajanmaharjan3239
      @sajanmaharjan3239 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you should set goals higher than yourself. As an ENTP, I realised this, Yes trying new things is fun, it excites us, all the knowledge and all, but at the end what is our legacy??? And I'm focused on that part. A goal that is higher than my wants and desires. I hope I can achieve them. Oh it's been a hell of a struggle till now. But I'm not going to stop. and so be it I have to admit in some random comment, I will. But I can't stop now.

  • @barbarajloriordan2697
    @barbarajloriordan2697 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I like your posts because they focus not only what one is, but on what one has to work on. I am very likely ENTP with highly developed thinking and also a strong sense of the obligation to mentor others. I know that that makes me likely to overlook people’s feelings and needs, so I work hard to remember those. I know that I over the sensing aspect of things, so I learn from my husband, who has a highly developed sensing faculty. I am one of the geeky ENTPs, so I work at learning social appropriateness.
    In other words, knowing that I am ENTP tells me not only who I am but also what I need to work on if I want to be a complete person. Saying, “I am like this because I am ENTP (or any other function stack) is only an excuse, IMO. I believe that saying, “I am ENTP” and I like that, but I would also like to supplement my strengths with other strengths,” offers a more helpful perspective.
    I really like your idea of studying INTJs. In fact, for a long time, I thought that I was one. I think that I was surrounded by many of them in my youth, and their thinking rubbed off.
    “Some kind of magic happens when you discipline an open mind.” That goes into my journal! Yes, we keep our dreams smaller to keep ourselves from being afraid.
    I am 71 years old, so I perhaps have a perspectives colored by experience. Life helps brings us opportunities in order to help us grow and change.

    I find I have the opposite as an ENTP. I usually have some big idea, learn all the skills to execute, begin to execute, then get bored because it takes all that work to finish fully realize the idea. Plus side, I learn all this stuff, it's just a matter of keeping that motivation to fallow through until the end.

    Damn, I feel so called out by this 😅
    Honestly, I'm not afraid of challenges but looking closely, I realised that I just jump from option to option, only commit when I'm completely sure it will work out, weather it being work or relationships. I'm actively searching for short-term solutions. And I've been told so many times that I'm "wasting my potential" that I sometimes have the urge to prove that their isn't any potential in the first place. Just to proof my point and walk away high headed.
    And well, overthinking problems and until coming to the (quick) solution that it's pointless anyways. But hey, on the bright side, ones we make up our mind on something, there's no way we let loos and give up, stubborn as hell 💪

    I dont think they necessarily consiously choose to think "Lets do as little as possible". I think its more because its easier for them to just see the option that brings most gratification in the shortest ammount of time. Distracting them from the bigger things that take time. I think perhaps the biggest problem is a gap between instant gratification and more tedious tasks. And being good at getting quick gratification, kinda contradicts the other option. I think maybe an ENTP would be more happy accepting that things might take longer, and perhaps be ok with things taking even longer than what it would for someone who could just be happy continously working towards one goal. Allow for distractions, and not give up and percieve not succeeding right away as failure. I think it could be done, woring on larger goals, and allow for their native all over the place here and there along the way. It would kinda "sabotage". But its better than deciding "I cant do this, its not rewarding. Im failing, therefore i should just keep doing the quick and easy shit"

      actually, it can be really conscious. I literally made it a "sport", how to have really good grades with as little effort as possible. Just for the sake of fun/challenge/laziness whatever. I even felt that getting prepared for exams is cheating. So for me, it's not really about instant gratification. I want to be quick with projects, because I'm afraid I don't finish them if they take too long

Having an interesting life where you constantly learn something new everyday while making enough money so that you don’t have to worry about money is my definition of it. Making more money or create big things that others will admire. I don’t really care what other people think of my accomplishments in life other than me being a trustworthy friend and human being.

    This applies to ENFPs too actually. Sounds like a Dominant Ne issue. Don't know if this is ENXP male issue or not but I relate to this. I think Transcendental meditation would change everybodys life if they practiced daily but an ENXP's life dramatically.

      not quite. the Ne dominance, yes, but then an EFNP has Fi second and third Te. thats very different. The Entp has Ti and cant Fi = decide on anything ever to be worth being followed though over a long time. and EFNP can Fi do that and they dont destroy every belief they have with Ti because the have Ti PolR also the are quite efficient with Te child. its a different situation although much that is Ne realted applys to them too. attention span isnt great and they also love change and the new stuff.

      @@christineschreiber5073 I understand the functions. My problem is that I don't care too much to follow through on anything because there is nothing that I FEEL extremely for in this world. I'm not extreme in my feelings of DRIVE except for being as genuine as I can be at any given moment in time. Fi doesn't help me decide on following through on things, it helps me respond to situations, to life and outcomes. It says to me " wherever you go I will be here and this can be home ,you can be comfortable, you can adapt".

    OMG, you must be clairvoyant. I'm serious. That's exactly how my ENTP ex was. You're so right about them questioning their intuitions. But it is their Te that seems to override a lot of their conclusions, or superfluous information floating around that they somehow have adapted to as their source of relevant information. Perhaps it's a gendered conditioning too, where some men are taught to not trust their feelings as much, as feelings are for "sissies." And intuition tends to go hand-in-hand with feelings, inklings.

Probably I need others's help. I have some grand things I wanna do (not sure when I plan to start doing them :D). Sometimes I have some accomplishments in a short time, people think it was long and hard work, then I get embarrassed, because I know I just put in the minimal effort to make it good. Your book example was spot on... I wrote one in not even two months with 3-400 scientific references. I mean I didn't really get any criticism, people have a very good opinion about it, but I know I could have done a better job on it. This "wasted potential" just feels so real

    Everyone have original nature, words alone can't change the nature of people , ENTP's understand themselves very deep, similar to INFJ's like you , but here you are use what you programmed for as INFJ person to help everyone as some kind wisdom , like this video , but if you look more deeper , you know that experiences in life and also fate or luck have huge role to make people change their lives to something better or worst not advises in general, even if the other person accept the advise, the root of personality nature + fate or luck + experiences have the final words on how the person should live ,I'm ENTP by my self , i have successful life , yet i see it as nothing , i also see if I make this successful life more huge , it dosn't matter , you need to understand with every gift , there also limitations, i think you tried your best to help others , but it is not enough to change people , I'm ENTP and i know that one best advises for those who close to my nature is , working with others as teamwork , the Ne and Fe have high impacts on ENTP's performances in order to achieve goals , but they will never change their complex nature like the way you advised them , ENTP's = smart brain that need people and teamwork, we are not INTP's ,
    For INTP lonely = best performance
    For ENTP lonely = worst performance
    ENTP can give better performance on achieve many things at once with the power of group on a lot of fields
    INTP can give best performance on one single study , without anyone , but they can't study many things at once on deep level even if they were alone..
    Now i hope you understand that ENTP they meant to be in this way , but if no people source that they can work with , their potential going to be wasted.

    great video, Eric.
    :-( its true. and the biggest problem is to decide on something.
    I know I can do all you said if I only could see any goal I want to achieve.
    You talk about plan and no distractions as if there was a goal. they have problems to decide on a long term goal and I think its because of Fi PolR. You descrivbe: "now I have this big idea", thats where you are wrong. Its many ideas, and they also often have a cynical desillusionment about everything, so what is even worth being done?
    I had six educations, many jobs, was always succesful but always left at some point, many places where I lived, many relationships.
    Everything you describe is accurate. Just give me something to heal the lack of Fi. As an ENTP you dont believe in much, because if the Ti does its job you went through the beliefs and ended in ambiguity because noting else is not just a belief. Ti and Fi are excluding each other.

    • @ErikThor
      @ErikThor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'll give you a small clue to how we INXJs do it: We decide quite early on what we want, but usually, our goals are quite abstract and can be realised in many different ways. The path there is also unknown even to us, so it's like, we know we're going to get there eventually, but not necessarily what to study or what to do to best realise the idea. And we tend to rewrite the past and our past actions and see it all as a coherent line, like, a random study of calligraphy became important to Steve Jobs Apple design. And your six different educations and jobs might all tie up and lead to the same thing too. I usually give the advice "connect the dots and find the one thing all your jobs had in common" -- theres usually a common theme, even if you can't see it right now.

      @@ErikThor That's because INTJs have Fi child, so they what THEY feel. They know what they are comfortable to and ended up knowing what they want. But ENTPs are the opposite. We have Fi trickster so we don't know what we actually feel, our comfortness is rely on others (Fe), simply we don't know ourselves emotionally so we ended up don't know exactly what we want. We need someone who's Ni Fi user to tie us down, after Ne Fe creates wings so we fly high almost all the time and don't really know how to keep grounded. As ENTP i said this.

I understand that you need to find ways that make you more focus, in my case, music, depression or run before I sit down. In reality its much harder. Almost like it requires a ritual. My imagination immediately made me think of Ben 10, which turns into different monsters with different specialities depending on the situation, now Imagine if you could turn into any type at will. Now that would be an interesting thought. How to activate each one even more so. Could you do it?

When people have panic attack some psychologists says that you have to trick the mind to think at reality or simple telling yourself that the panic attack is not "real" so they Advise to literally tell yourself STOP and then to focus on objects that you can see in front of you.
    This is exactly what I do when my mind strat going places i say STOP and i start thinking ok this is a book, this is the pen, this is my desk, i am studying so FOCUS.
