    So its like:
    Ne: Explore, explore, explore... more, more and more
    Ti: That one is promising. This one makes sense. This is connected with that.
    Si: Ok, that's enough. Enough exploring. Choose the best option and define the course of action. Follow throught.
    Ne: No! That will cease the exploration process (anxiety).

      Can’t remember my source... but recall reading in my thousands of thousands hours of research on mental health, personality and research ... I recall coming across a high prevalence rate between ENTP and ADD/ADHD diagnosis. Makes sense now. Hmmm

      Stephanie Eddens I swear, for the past 2 years I've been wondering whether I have ADHD or not. A lot of symptoms were there, but I always felt that something is missing, like the symptoms aren't prominent enough. Plus even if it's annoying, it doesn't complicate my life much, not enough to make me truly worried. More recently I've discovered the whole BMTI thing, I got ENTP and while doing my research I'd always stumble upon characteristics and behaviors similar to the ones people with ADHD have. Now I think that was it all the time, I don't have a mental disorder, it's just my personality, and I'm so glad :))

      Edwin Falkner Ti is more like: “my identity is my reason”. For instance, why would a tall person play basketball even if his family don’t like, well because he is tall and therefore he should be the best. That’s why he doesn’t care about what other people like.

    • @superdjaction
      @superdjaction 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Edwin Falkner why am I telling you that? Because I’m a lead Ti and I should know more about it than you do (Ti)

  • @daveyfarrell2973
    @daveyfarrell2973 5 ปีที่แล้ว +357

    The idea that ENTP’s shift between Ti and Fe is so true. As an ENTP I am super Fe in situations where I trust and know everyone in the room. If there are “strangers” in the mix I am mostly Ti, challenging everything said and not accepting inaccuracy. I ruin the harmony while desperately wanting it. I usually claw it back though with what most people would describe as charm.

    • @anderpanders6210
      @anderpanders6210 3 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      I know you commented a year ago, but what you said resonates with me except I'm the opposite. With strangers I am very Fe; not crossing any lines, maintaining social harmony etc. But when I'm with close friends I get extremely argumentative and sadly occasionally challenging people's personal views they hold very dear and thus end up causing discord and sometimes even tears.
      My question to you is;
      Do you suspect you are using Fe or Ti more? I wonder if we unleash our favorite of those 2 when we're with people we trust and feel safe with or if the prioritized function is what we tend to use with strangers as it comes to us easy and more naturally.

    • @daveyfarrell2973
      @daveyfarrell2973 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@anderpanders6210 I suspect it’s not unconscious. I want different things in different situations. Those that know me well generally don’t fuck with me cause of the implications. So I’m cuddly yet thought-evoking but not confrontational. Though some old friends deliberately poke for the craic . And I indulge nostalgically. With new people I’m Fe initially and as much as possible but always find myself injecting something disharmonious so they have fair warning of what they are dealing with. Protection mechanism most likely. Btw I’ve had a drink. Just riffing really. This shit ain’t science.

    • @daveyfarrell2973
      @daveyfarrell2973 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Actually, I would say the biggest fear of an ENTP is not neccesarily a fear from outside controll, even though, that is a big one as well.
    I think the biggest fear of an ENTP is a fear of missing out. The fear of being able to do something better than currently, but never realizing the full potential of a situation. The fear of not having enough options, not having enough friends, not having a creative enough job, interesting enough programmes for the weekend. not having enough life experience. Etc Etc.
    I think those are the biggest fears of an ENTP.
    As well as people rejecting him not for what he says, but what he is.
    So basically being biased against an ENTP in an argument will make him utterly an completely mad.

    This is too accurate for words. My ENTP friend ALWAYS gets in trouble at his job, because he thinks every rule and protocol is stupid as hell and makes it a pleasure to break them and explain to his managers a millions ways why it's pointless. And as an ISTJ I'm like ''But..........you'll end up getting fired eventually so I'm not sure what you're trying to prove is really smart''

      (Sigh). I'm an intj parent of what I strongly suspect is an ENTP kid. I am REALLY struggling with the "rules are meant to be flouted" response. What's worse is I UNDERSTAND (at least partly) the need for independence.... but GEEZ, you still must live in society! And when you irritate your immediate "tribe" by making yourself impossible to live with.... life is going to be hard!

      As an ENTP, I actually find people breaking rules annoying without knowing how smart certain rules actually are. At my previous work, my manager with weak Ne always tried changing certain tools to speed up process, then I will get extremely pissed off by how stupid their ideas are trying to sacrifice risk with 5-10 minutes extra of efficiency. I will call them out being stupid and short sighted at all time. Then they’d come back and haunt me with a shit rating in my appraisal. Yeah you guessed right! My bosses were ESTJ!

      I've ended up as a massage therapist that manages a team of massage therapists. It's beautiful! I'm not the owner so I don't have to worry about the crap that comes with that. My clients are constantly new with interesting problems for me to figure out and try new ideas. I setup the social dynamics of my massage team to create a smooth working environment where I don't have to deal with drama or bureaucracy and neither does anyone else to my knowledge. I have it running almost on auto pilot and I get to play with that formula when I think of you have an idea for it to run better.

      As a kid I got allowed as much leeway as possible over MY space. I would rearrange my room over and over sometimes into configurations that didn't make any sense, painted and I did lots of weird experiments. My projects and improvements had to be funded by me and completed by me. The rest of the house wasn't mine and wasn't mine to play with, not because of rules, but because of respect for those who had to share the space. Absolute freedom, with consequences and respect for others. I didn't realize it at the time and figured my folks just didn't mind enough to stop me from moving around my dresser when the thought struck me at 3am. That was probably true too, but looking back that was both a good outlet and lesson.

  • @SNeaker328
    @SNeaker328 5 ปีที่แล้ว +72

    I'm an ENTP, and it's not so much that I fear rules or restrictions, it's that I hate rules or restrictions that I think are stupid or wrong and the knowledge that I have limited control over my life and that much of how life plays out is arbitrary and unjust terrifies me. I have very little respect for authority simply because it is authority (I do respect authentic expertise and defer to it.) I find rules comforting and useful when they make sense and infuriating when they either don't make sense or strike me as cruel.

    This speaks so well to a personal situation -- I wanted to hang in another year before retiring, but got reassigned to a different job. No cut in pay, and fewer responsibilities but also there was a continuing reduction in autonomy. When other employees left I was getting shoehorned into a job that was very rote and routine, with lots of rules and requirements. Do-nothing monthly reports were expected. I knew that it would drive me fucking crazy to stay so I retired ahead of plan, with absolutely zero regrets.

Once I dealt with that and started holding myself accountable, my internal peace was significantly greater.. You can really say that I've come up with various Ti systems to compensate for my shitty Si. This is still very different from how my ISFJ wife uses Si - for her Si is a way of life. The way she describes it is that she just feels when things are getting disheveled and she just instinctively wants to deal with it now so she can relax later. Yesterday she pointed out that the living room is getting untidy/dirty, meanwhile I haven't even noticed it because I've been obsessed with researching bitcoin/MBTI/politics.

The principal of the rules matters too, if it makes sense and serves a true purpose for the overall good, its fine, but if its limiting for no reason, I have a big problem getting past it, especially if there are consequences and I just want to go around the rules just becase they are stupid or flawed. Ok so now how to fix this and get those lists and prioritizations done...

    You are close in your examples of us Ne doms' fears; it's not control that bothers us-- it's certainty. Si people take comfort in the known, but for people with Si demon, one of our greatest fears is when we are resigned to doing something that is set in stone. Even if we never utilize it, Ne doms DESPERATELY crave the knowledge that they can change things on a whim, and don't have to commit to a single reality.

    I love these diagrams showing the functions, I thought I was ENTP then I thought maybe ESTJ. But the examples about control really cracked me up. Every issue I have a work is about people controling how I do my job, or changing the rules to impose their will onto me. I thought I was obsessed with getting on with people, but I think it's more to do with control

    I knew I was an entp when I became the first person to ever be kicked out of the Advanced learning class at my gradeschool not for being unable to keep up, but breaking every single rule and disrupting the class every time the teacher told us to be quiet

    • @DarkFoxV
      @DarkFoxV 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I entered the classes, and left with a score of rules added.
      Meanwhile, got 1 question off from perfect on the state exams and was lightyears ahead of my class (who were all advanced) xD
      Most of my uni issues were with administration/finance dept/interpersonal with a bad professor, or with transit to class/food. The only other issues were a few freak family issues.
      I can say that I never struggled with any material presented.
      Tho, there was one class where we were graded before the info was presented. Awful professor and very condescending. We were also given marks against for questions or asides.

    I've realized this year that ENTPs do not make good traders on the stock market because even though we very often make analytical and well thought out choices in what to buy, we always want to bounce around stocks and are not willing to wait for our hunches and research in a stock (which is mostly accurate) to pay off. I can't tell you how much money I've given up this year by making great choices in stocks then not waiting long enough for them to bear fruit and subsequently watching them moon from the sidelines while I am stuck in newer positions. I have to say that I feel empowered by finally realizing this.

    I have a micro managing aunt who I’ve never gotten along with. She always says I’m in my ‘own little world’. So...hehehe, I asked her, “um, excuse me-what do you mean my own little world?” She nervously laughed. She is the type that wishes there is drama, so she’ll be the hero to fix it. She talks a whole lot (2 and 1/2 hours last time we met...) she always needs everything to be her way, or she’ll pounce on me. I am a little bitter, and I have tried to get it right, but people barely change. Lol...I’m an ENTP wondering what her mbti might be.

    Yes, anything that reduces options and necessitates commitment is scary. I'm not the same person day to day much less over years. Relationships, jobs, even time management have to have flexibility or I will have low confidence in it. However, there is a balancing point that gets stronger as I get older with Si. More and more my Si wins. I look at it as "discipline", even so it's difficult.

    I argued with my literature professor in uni about the rules regarding poetry and prose and why people cant just write freely, and why we had to learn those rules lol, took up an entire lecture, he said u have to master and learn the rules in order to know how to break them, which made sense when you study history and the development of both language and writing style, most of the innovation came from breaking rules or norms
