Glad to see you making them again. Ps you are my 6.0 hero lol.I think you are one of the most knowledgeable guys on the planet when it comes to these and I have been a tech for over 35 years. My condolences again and PLEASE keep it going. Thank you and keep on rocking in the free world God Bless.

    always change out the lifters if your getting deep into a high mileage 6.0 along with the 6.4 pushrods. Camshaft lobes are usually pretty worn by the 275-300k+ miles. You can also do relative compression test on IDS

    Thank You Mike for a great video! This makes me want to go out to my 6.0l and listen very carefully to her! She has 266k on her and has never had the heads off before but has had to have new injectors, oil cooler, and radiator. She sounds great but I know that she's racking up some miles. Are the cam failures a typical issue only when the heads have been off and shaved or is it an issue on bone stock 6.0's as well? I've watched Bill's video about it a number of times but I'm still not really clear if he meant all 6.0l or just ones that's had head work done to them. Please keep the videos coming! R.I.P. Bill Hewitt!!!

    Many years ago, I told Bill through TH-cam that 6.0s had lifter failures. He said that at that time, he hadn't seen that failure. I worked for Navistar. I had replaced probably 6 engines due to that failure. It was the needle bearings in the roller going bad. We summed it up to it might be more of a truck/bus issue. Now it seems to be more common.

    • @justsittinhere72
      @justsittinhere72 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Of those engines, did they show any signs of neglect? Lack of oil changes or something else? Run hard or boosted?
      I have an '06 E 350 but it only has 151k. Maybe a little too early for major problems? I am a stickler about oil changes. Every 5,000 miles. Filters are always OEM, oil and fuel.

    • @klikliks_service
      @klikliks_service 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @justsittinhere72 hard to say all in busses or trucks. Probably more to oil changes than anything. Usually, they take out the ipr screen, because of debris.

    Thanks for the video Mike. in case you're looking for content ideas i have a question - had my truck dealerproofed with you about 5 years ago. i'm starting to worry about what sensors or little things should be done or what to look for. i would love a video on 'high points' of what to take care of on the 6.0 post dealerproofing with you. i'm about to change out IPR and IPS - is that necessary and what else for someone hauling relatively heavy long haul? just vacation/camper for me but still. breakdowns worry me. Please keep making videos... We need powerstrokehelp.

    My old 7.3 was doing something very similar for about 9 months....intermittent compression skip. Some days it would run totally fine all day, other days it would skip at one light but not the next or on other days it would just stay skipping all day. When it was acting up, I could jump the starter and hear a very noticeable "gallop" in the cranking rhythm. When it wasn't acting up it had a very smooth and even sound when cranking it over. I put 2 cans of seafoam in a fresh oil change and left it in there for the entire 3,500mi change interval. The skip was completely gone after about 1500 miles and is still gone to this day about a year and 25,000+/- miles later. I still can't believe it!!! Never been a believer in snake oils but I had already condemned the engine in my mind and was making plans to rebuild it so I had nothing to loose if it didn't work or messed it up further.
    Ps....glad to see you keeping Bills legacy alive and well. I'm still heart broken over loosing him. Ive learned so much from his videos over the years!

Never worked on/owned a diessl yet. I fully intend to in the next 24 months. Always been a dream of mine. f you guys still sell trucks id prefer to buy kt from yall because yas are the only ones id trust. So many hours of free content on here educating us how to properly mantain these engines so we DONT need your services. A lot a business people would think, "that makes no sense!" But yall already know WHY it does. And ironically, THATS why i know exactly where to go when i do. Cant wait to get that 6.0 someday and prove what those engines were intended to be capable of and why buying a new 6.7 is stupid and why getting an armoured one from powerstrokehelp is a power move for value

    My Duramax had the exact same symptoms and it eventually started knocking loudly and then locked up. It was caused by a 12mm flange nut that found its way into the intake. Whenever it would get caught behind an intake valve, the engine would momentarily lose compression in that cylinder and misfire. Eventually it presumably got stuck behind a valve enough so that the piston came up and made contact with the valve, breaking it, and blowing up the engine. The block was salvageable but it had to have new heads and one new piston. I did all the work myself and it took a few weeks.

    Interesting, one could assume a faulty fuel injector based purely on the power balance test but that would be wrong. The skip when cranking is important.

    that sucks......to change a lifter on a lifter on a 6.0, you have to disassemble the the entire engine. Bill covered this once long ago when he had found a needle bearing and some brass in the oil filter screen at the high pressure pump inlet and some damage at the low pressure oil pump at the rotor. If its the lifter, because of how the engine is designed, you have to take the entire engine apart.
