    • How to Take a Teeth Im...
    In this video we explain how to create a silicone teeth mold from a plaster teeth cast. This is important if you are creating multiple character teeth for an actor. Pay special attention to your mold making. Silicone will seep out of any crack or seam in your mold. If your clay walls are not sturdy, silicone will burst through any weak areas and leak everywhere. This is an expensive mistake that even professional make on occasion so don't get lazy on your mold making.
    Silicone supplies:
    I recommend a platinum base silicone to make your mold. What I like to use is Smooth On, Dragon Skin 30 platinum silicone. It is fairly inexpensive but durable silicone and a really nice for molding.

    If mold is availbe, does it reduce the re making of the denture ?

      Your question is kind of opened ended. We are not making dentures here just making a mold of the original plaster teeth so that we can make more plaster castings of the actors teeth.

  • @lenny108

    well, you already had this mold when making the initial dental cast, why make a second one?

    • @jensenthom
      @jensenthom 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      lenny108 The first mold was made out of alginate which is a temporary mold within an hour that mold will shrink and start to drying up. The silicone mold of the teeth you can use over and over again for years possibly.

    Hi can you please tell me what is the significance of the numberical/alphabetical values that are seen inside a silicone mold for making casts

    • @jensenthom
      @jensenthom 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not exactly sure what you mean by inside the silicone mold. Depending on who made the mold they could put Identification numbers on a mold for their reasons.
      If you’re talking about the identification numbers on a bottle of professional grade silicone, that number represents the shore strength of the silicone. In other words the larger the number the denser the silicone. I often use a silicone with a shore strength of 20 or 30. Prosthetic grade silicone’s are usually around 10 to represent the softness of skin. I hope that helped you.

    What type of plaster is the initial mould made from? (the teeth you start with in this video)

    • @jensenthom
      @jensenthom 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MB Aerial Photography Both are the same plaster. Hydro Cal White (dental stone plaster)

    are we supposed to apply Vaseline over the dentulous cast also...?

    • @EggHeadFX
      @EggHeadFX  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plaster is porous so the silicone will grab on to it and there is a chance you might tear the silicone when you separate them. Vaseline will provide a barrier so that you can remove the plaster from your silicone mold. You don't need Vaseline when making duplicates. You can use a spray release if you want for the duplicate casts. Spray release will help your silicone mold last longer as well.

    • @EggHeadFX
      @EggHeadFX  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Matt, I can't consult on dentistry. I am not a dentist. You need to talk to a dentist. I don't want to be held liable for giving you advice that might cause damage to your teeth. The materials we used in these videos are not strong enough for everyday wear. They are only for theatrical and film purposes only.

    is this silicone body safe, can i use it to make body moulds?

    • @jensenthom
      @jensenthom 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      NO. This is a tin cure silicone, use this silicone to make molds. NON’T use this silicone directly on people. Body safe silicone’s are usually a platinum silicone. Read the manufacture label before you use any silicone directly on the skin.

    Can you use the regular caulking silicone that comes in a tube or would it be too thick?

    • @EggHeadFX
      @EggHeadFX  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Calk in a tube will not work sorry. That kind of calk dries upon air contact. It doesn't have the extra chemical or catalyst to help it set quickly. If tube calk is too thick it will take a long, long time to cure and it may not cure in the middle at all. Also tube calk has poor elastic properties. In other words it doesn't bounce back when stretched. I would not recommend it at all. I have found my favorite silicone to use is a Smooth On Product called, Dragon Skin 30. Google: Smooth On Dragon Skin to find a company in your area that sells Smooth On products. I purchase mine from here: www.reynoldsam.com/product/dragon-skin/
      The blue stuff I am using in this video is a Tin Cure silicone. It's good but I have found the shelf life is not as long as a Platinum Cure silicone like Dragon Skin or even PlatSil Gel 10 would work for this purpose.
      Yes tube silicone is real cheap but that's because its main purpose is for sealing windows and such and that is about it.
