Last year I used the 3-in-1 painted onto the trunks of badly pruned lime and Navel orange trees. This year I am finally seeing new growth on the bare trunks. All previous methods to encourage growth had failed. I will be regularly using the 3-in-1.

! Thank you for the compliment! That avocado snack is something I have at least 2-3x per week!!!! Sadly, my parents did not introduce us to the value of avocados until much later (maybe my highschool years). I don't think is was as popular in the USA a couple decades ago, as it is now! My children LOVE avocados!!! And I'm planning on carving room to add another 1-2 more avocado trees to my food forests, with the hope of accomplishing year round ripening fruit... cannot have enough!!! Charles :-)

Great advice on protection from sun burn. Recently applied the 3:1 to two Lemon trees above 15 ‘ tall and a orange tree above 15’ . This is my first foray to Southern California gardening. The sun is powerful...unbelievable.

Those leafs off the branches you pruned make a great lemon tea.
I see it does not matter the size of the tree, if they are exposed to sun it should be white washed.I watched this whole video,and learned a lot of valuable information.

Hi, have you ever heard of a Persian lemon tree? I had one in my old house. I miss the tree, it was I think a cross between a lemon and a lime. It was yellow outside and green inside, however some were yellow inside, didn’t understand that. But they were juicy. I waited till they were ripe and just about ready to fall off tree. I planted a lemon tree & a Haas avocado tree in my new house. Now I trying to learn how to care for them. My late husband use to take care of them, he did not teach me, I never asked. Your videos are helping. I asked for a Persian lemon tree, I not sure it is. Trying to keep them alive. Oh, by the way I live in Mexico. 5,000 feet above sea level. I ordered some of the IV Organic white wash & spray, from Amazon. Don’t know how long it will take to get here. Customs!!!!!!!! I guess you don’t reply to people…….

You are correct, the feeding / fertilizing should have been below the wood chips; otherwise a lot of product could get absorbed by the woodchips & diminish the effectiveness of the feeding time! Charles, I wanted to say thank you for your invaluable wisdom and your willingness to share it. I am learning a lot...a bit overwhelming but I know that will get easier. I purchased my first citrus trees this week for our humble little urban orchard! My family and I are all excited. I purchased mainly semi-dwarf varieties and will be planting them in containers as that is what works best for our yard's layout. I was curious to know your opinion on transplanting trees that already have blooms and/or fruit. Is it safe to do so or should we leave them in the containers they came in? I transplanted some already so I guess we will find out if I messed up but I still have some that I decided to wait on. Thanks again.

. If you have flowers and very young (under a month old) fruit, I would wait on transplanting until fruit set is more established. The stress of transplanting will takes its toll on the youngest of fruit/ flowers. But, there is another much larger group of thinking (including myself) where you should be less concerned about fruiting the first year, and more focused on growth, structure & strength... so that by next year, you'll have a structure that can support more quality fruit! There is no messing up... just learning... so that each year, you'll get better & better as you grow strong (with your trees) on caring for them from year to year! Keep me posted on your citrus growing successes!!! Charles :-)
@@IVOrganic Thanks for that insight. Last year, I planted our first tree (peach) and we focused entirely on its care. Pruned a little last year in the fall and now it looks like it's going to pay us back with loads of fruit! I will look at doing the same with the other trees.

Your citrus are so green.. I seem to have a problem keeping my citrus healthy. Spider mites, leaf curling and yellowing. I will try non box store fertilizer. I see you have a lot of plants in a small place. I will try they and make a small grove in my yard. I have 2 acres and tend to spread out. I enjoy lemon and oranges but South Florida is rough on plants. Even my plant provider tells me so.

I'm wondering why you said winter is the dormant season and no need to fertilize. That's mostly when my Meyer Lemon is blooming and fruiting.
FANTASTIC QUESTION Virginia! Even though your citrus are blooming & fruiting in the winter (GREAT NEWS), the plants metabolism is at an all season low due to shorter day light hours & cooler temps. Additionally, nutrient uptake from the roots is poor under the cooler & damp conditions of winter, hence foliar feeding is a way too prevent any nutrient deficiencies by spring. I hope all this makes sense?

Hey Charles do you have any info about old avocado tress my wife’s parents have a handful of really old avocado trees and a couple look well while others don’t look so good I haven’t been able to find much information. I have some ideas on what needs to be done to help the trees but some reassurance would be great. The trees are in north Pasadena up at the base of the mountain I guess it was an avocado orchard up there at one time and many of the yards still have many of the avocado trees from way back then and many of them look great. I would like to send you some pictures would that be ok? What’s the best place to send them? Thanks

the branches with latex or white lime milk against sunburn, I was a fool, I didn't have to comment on that when
I'm not from the area, I also finally see that there are clever people! I am from Czech.
The rule is the same for trees climate zone 5-7 and citrus 8-9
Hello Charles your videos are very help full I have planted on pots lemon, oranges, apples and peach trees from seed and they are 2 year old one of my peach tree had a lot of flowers and few fruit and then all fall my question is what kind of fertilizer I need to use? please any tips
If the lemon or grapefruit look the right color how do you know when to pick? Will they stay ok on the limb for several weeks? How long does the juice stay ok in the refrigerator? I planted a kumquat tree 13 years ago and it immediately died back during an unexpected freeze (NW Florida) and I just left the plant alone. It started growing so I was hoping for kumquats but it produced SOUR! oranges - thought. Now this year there were at least a hundred large yellow fruit that eventually turned orange but I think the flavor is more grapefruit and this year they were still very sour but had a wonderful taste. So I picked them all and have been eating them everyday until I thought I needed to juice them and freeze the juice. It is so sour but flavorful. Should I have waited to pick them? Is there anyway to find out what they are? There have been several light freezes 30-32 degrees maybe 3 times and they get better each time but the leaves stayed deep green and the fruit kept growing. I assume the root stock has taken over the grafted kumquat but sure would like to find out what it is and if I fertilize it would it get sweeter. We just abandoned it out back and now want to revive our efforts, if possible.

Can you tell us more about the root-stock varieties. Because I live in a different country and thinking of importing the plant. Will it perform well in tropical monsoon Area with no chill hour?
I also need to know, which variety is best for preserved (cured) lemon recipe, ie: Can we make it using Mayer lemon? Here, we generally have lemons with a bit bitter flesh, will it be no bitter if cured in salt water?

just have a quick question I just got a baby Mayer lemon tree and I’ve had it for a little over a week. I’m in California as well downtown Los Angeles actually so we’ve had 90° weather last couple of days just haven’t watered my trees since I got it last week.
I watered deeply I sprayed it and White washed the trunk as soon as I got the tree.
but today I noticed two yellow leaves is that normal? Is that because I overwatered it i mean I haven’t watered it for like a week and a half.
should I continue to water it as the dirt did feel a little dry when I did the finger test. Thank you 🙏🏼

Hello Johnny Hossell. Thank you for the compliment!!! Most grafting techniques (cleft, side, whip and tongue, etc) are done in late winter or early spring, as the trees fluids (cambium layer) are becoming more active. However, the approach graft (my favorite technique with the highest success rates) can be done spring, summer & early fall... a huge grafting window! Checkout some approach grafts I have done on other fruit trees by searching "IV Organic Approach Graft" Keep me posted on your grafting successes! Charles :-)
Hello from south Texas! I bought a home in June and in the backyard there are 7 fruit trees 6 with young fruit! One is grapefruit the rest I think are lemons or limes...I haven't watered at all 😂 but they seem to still be growing...it has rained a good amount but now with a dry spell forecasted I'm wondering how should I water? The for info!!
Hello, I have yellowing in my leaves on my Meyer lemon tree and I have been giving it micro nutrients and citrus tree fertilizer to hopefully give it the boost it needs. Am I still not doing the right thing, like don't water for a week or something because it's in a black tub and I live in Northern California where it's very hot so watering every other day. What is going on please help?

Maybe your orange color is one are those as we call them NARANJ in South Iran, they are not as sour as the Lemons are, and having lots of seeds.
Our And if t Shiraz City has NARANJESTAN (NARANJ GARDEN) with beautiful smell in town .
We also make JAM out of NARANJ Flower.
I have seen NARANJ in South Spain and probably you have them in LA.
Let me tell you, you are seen globally, thanks for your efforts.

Great information! I have a dwarf Meyer Lemon Tree and the leaves a yellow and it looks just like chlorosis. How do I treat my tree? It happened when we got all that rain earlier in the year. I am in SoCal in the valley area.

! 6 Macros Plus fertilizer has all the 6 MacroNutrients, many MicroNutrients & Beneficial Microbes & Mycorrhizae. The beneficial bacteria in the formulation, such as Streptomyces griseus, is a common soil bacteria. For safety reasons, as with most organic fertilizers packaging, it is recommended that you not inhale the dust particles & keep out of reach of children & pets, until after the product has been watered well. ! I am in grow zone 10b. However, the Meyer lemons are in complete shade (no sunlight at all) for 2-3 months each winter, and they tolerate shade better than most other citrus trees. Meyers naturally grow more compact and bushy, compared to Eureka & Lisbon lemons. Pruning can be used to control size, but with some limitations; for example, if you try to dwarf a standard Eureka to 3-4 feet, the tree will only stay in a vegetative (growing) stage with no flowers and fruit. So, consider using dwarf (I prefer semi-dwarf) rootstock if you want to create smaller growing citrus trees. Let me know if you have any other questions. Charles :-)
Can one mix capcuim cabornate mix as white wash if do not have I organic
I have a Eureka lemon tree that I inherited when a friend last away. The tree did well for a while. It had one green lemon on it when I first received it. It yellowed fine, and grew quite large. After the lemon fell off so did all of the leaves over time. I have pruned the tree (not sure if I helped it on not), it did grow a bud on it which fell off before if plumed. How can I save this tree? What do I do for it?

My kumquats are dry. I think my tangerines will be as well.
I am growing a Meyer lemon in a pot and overwintered it in my basement. It had a ton of blossoms in Nov/Dec. Of course, they did not get polinated and all dropped. Another smaller wave of blossoms came the past few months. I have it in my sun room and take it outside for hours during the day when over 50°F because the blossoms are starting to open, and so bees can polinate it (bringing it in at night as we still get freezing temps). How many times a year do they actually blossom? Is it normal for the blossoms to come in the winter? The basement stays approx 58°, but I was surprised when I found blossoms in winter... before that I had nothing last year. Thanks.
