I saw someone do this before and it’s a great idea and it seems obvious but not many people do it....
Put your pot where you want it inside the bigger pot and fill all around it with dirt and get it a little bit wet so that when you pull out your original pot it leaves a hole the exact right size and depth and then just take your plan out and stick it in the hole and push the soil down and it’s perfect every time

You mean Fingerlime. I bought Fingerlime plant from Thailand through a friend more than a year ago. I didn’t know that it can be grown in Singapore too! Now looking forward for it to bear flowers and ultimately abundant fruits 🙏😊

I enjoy watching these videos but one thing instructors forgets to mention is the specific size of containers like 2 gallons , 7 gallons etc. Small, medium, large aren't enough info for beginners.
Very informative. Been growing citrus for years and still learned a lot. I live on the central CA coast in SLO county. In my very tiny back yard I have a WA navel, a Meyer, Bearss lime, Haas avocado and a fig. No room for more or I won’t have space for veggies and berries. My tiny front courtyard has 2 potted citrus. So where there’s a will there’s a way. Learning how to keep them small. Thanks again.

I have been using crushed granite 220 or Azomite for many many years. It is by far, absolutely the best.

Last chance of frost here isn't really till Mother's Day but I keep my citrus inside during winter. I'm planning on repotting mine the next chance I get so I guess I'll wait until Spring. One of mine has some baby fruit (calamondin) and the other is flowering now (meyer lemon). I joined the facebook group. I look forward to the other videos in the series.

I just got my semi dwarf Clementine tree 2 weeks ago and already has multiple fruit all over. But I wanted to up pot it since it came in a 5 gallon pot with hardly any soil in it. Can I up pot it now even thought it has all those tiny fruits in it. Or should I wait til January when it becomes dormant? Thank you so so much for your excellent videos.

Quick question bought a home 4 months ago that has a lemon and orange tree. It is cover in fruit tree is about 12ft tall with a 6" trunk but all the fruit is beautiful but all is bitter with a metallic taste and has a a dark skin around the bottom.
I was told by my landscaper that I need to prune out any branch with thorns that they are male sucker roots and are the cause for the bad fruit. When I looked at the tree every branch has 2-3" long thorns.
So guess my quick question wasn't so quick. So should I remove the tree and start over ?
Have you ever though of air layering the sucker growth from the root stock for use with future grafting?

This is very interesting. I have a problem though that I haven't been able to solve. I have a lemon tree in a very large and heavy pot. After some years, the soil has really receded leaving the pot rather empty at the top. I was told you cannot just top up the soil since the original crown of the tree must not be covered. What's the best way forward? Thanks🙏
I'm in the Pasadena area - where did you get your Australian Finger Lime trees? The citrus quarantine has made it challenging to find nurseries that carry citrus, let alone Finger Limes! I'm willing to drive, just lemme know where you got em!

Good morning Tammy, I agree with Matt- Meyer Lemon Tree! They grow more, flower more, fruit more, just more durable than most citrus varieties in my experience. Also, lemons have proven to be way more versatile, used in marinades, salad dressings & occasional lemonade. I’d also post your question in the Citrus Facebook group Iink I shared above. I just planted my potted yuzu tree in the ground. It seemed to go into transplant shock, lost some leaves and remaining leaves drooped during heat if the day. Picked all the fruit, pruned lightly, and a thunder storm with a lot of rain has helped. 🤞 that it has recovered.

I already transplanted my semi-dwarf into a much larger container from the nursery container before seeing your video. Can citrus trees thrive despite not being up-potted gradually, or is it necessary for the tree's survival that I remove it and put it in a smaller pot?
Do you recommend top pot (potting soil) from Mr. Gary down at the lagunahills nursery?
If permanently kept in pots, Top Pot is premium.

where do you get the pot you are filling first?
I’ve had my dwarf Meyer lemon tree in a huge pot. It’s at least 20 inches deep. I don’t know how maybe 20-22 inches wide something like that for several years and I’m having a hard time getting it out of the pot to put in the ground. Any suggestions?

Just curious; can you explain more about the purpose of the gravel and ceramic pieces? I'm about to start growing a dwarf blood orange tree and I would like to understand more.
Its supposed to improve drainage but its a myth...search on here.....using gravel for improved drainage is a myth.....all it does is raise the perched water table....the top half of the mix needs to dry out to ensure good root growth...Ensure the medium is uniform and the perlite prevents the mix from compacting and robbing 02 from the mix and therefore the roots......i just mix a premium mix with perlite ...drill plenty of 10mm holes in the pot...if terracotta use masonry bits...work up a size at a time...so you dont crack the pot and use the gutter guard cut to shape on the bottom of the pot...so your mix doesnt wash out.....no need for gravel or Brocken terracotta etc. ....pot up gradually...double the size of the rootball each time.....dont stick into a huge pot straight away !......false economy.
It creates a perched water table, WORSE drainage. Coarse materials (sand, gravel) BELOW a finer material (silt, clay is smallest) will create a perched water table where water pools just above that gravel layer

YES! GREAT SUGGESTION!!! However, you can also graft onto any of the Eureka branches too; the more vigorous the branch you graft onto, the more likely the graft will succeed. Thanks for sharing!!!

I started lemon trees from seed almost 5 years ago. I kept the 3 that were doing the best, however, they still haven't put on a lot of growth. They look like avocado trees when you grow them in a glass of water. The most growth I got out of them was last summer when I moved them outside in morning sun when it was 100 deg. I have fertilized them & even put grow lights on them. I live in Montana Zone 4b & I keep them indoors in Large pots with great drainage. How do I get them to produce fruit?
They probably won't ever produce fruit
Could take 10 years from seed to see any fruit
Most seeds nowadays are sterile from citrus trees because they've been cloned so many times so you probably will never see fruit on that tree

There is no phenomenon as stem rot . If so then all cuttings would ve died . Only if you cover the stem with mulch it will occur
Adding stones/gravel to the bottom of the pot simply makes drainage worse.
I've tested it, others have tested it, the explanation is all over the web, there are even some videos showing this in action.
So don't do it :)

I use half cactus, half recipe 420
I RECOMMEND NOT ADDING FERTILIZER RIGHT AFTER TRANSPLANTING A FRUIT TREE AS THIS CAN CAUSE ROOT BURN THE TREE AND STRESS THE TREE OUT BY OVER FEEDING FERTILIZER TO IT... WHEN YOU ALREADY HAVE REALLY GOOD SOIL AND YES I WOULD RECOMMEND COMPOST AND MULCH IF YOU HAVE BAD SOIL BUT WAIT FOR THE TREE ROOTS TO ESTABLISH AND THEN ADD FERTILIZER EVERY 6 MONTHS AND ALL OF THIS DEPENDS ON YOUR SOILS PH LEVEL AND TYPE SUCH AS A PH LEVEL OF 5.5, 6.0, 6.5 OR 7.0
BUT IF YOU WANT TO GO WITH FERTILIZING RIGHT AFTER PLANTING ITS ALL ON YOU AND IM HOPING ALL OF YOU'S THE BEST OF LUCK WITH GARDENING :)
Hello SK Esmail. AGREED with your above statement, especially if the fertilizer is synthetic (not organic) would contribute towards possible burn. However, and not mentioned in this lesson, IV Organic All-Purpose Fertilizer contains beneficial microbes & mycorrhizae which facilitate newly planted and/ or transplanted trees; creating the web of life in the garden soil that networks the soil with the roots to maximize the exchange of water & nutrients between the soil and plant. Again, great suggestion-- and I have taught before to pace the number of things you to do a plant, including fertilizing, as everything you do is a possible stress to the plant. Happy Gardening! Exactly, sometimes less is more. I'm very wary of all the chemistry that man calls "natural" just because it was isolated from a plant in a laboratory. You are always going to be better off providing the whole plant that contains the synergistic benefits of all the constituents and buffers. The man made stuff just stimulates but later enervates.
