I'm a 10 yr old and I got my red eared slider a few weeks ago, with literally no information about it. I found ur channel, and you helped me a ton! Thank you so much for all the tips and help! I love ur channel
Hi, I found one of your vids on my recommendation, and you’ve helped me a lot. My juvenile red eared slider only had 3 inches of water before, no uvb or heat light bulbs. After watching some of your vids and doing some research I realized that this was not right! I had this turtle now for over 3 years, with no lighting. Also, it’s only 3 inches long. I convinced my parents to get a uvb and heat lamp for my turtle this Monday and now the turtle seems to be doing a lot better! I’m just super grateful and wanted to say thank you for this.
Btw, i have that same siphon, but with a squeezy ball part that allows you to pump the water by squeezing the ball, instead of having to suck on the tube. :) i just found your channel while looking for ways to keep my turtle from jumping out of her tank while clumbing the ramp to her basking area!
I just changed mine today. I kind of went crazy with rearranging all my gravel according to their colors (grey, white, black and brown). Separated them well and was not disappointed with the results. The aquarium contrast seems better now with the black background and looks cooler with the turtles and goldfish swimming around.
I use an old fluval canister filter filled with sponges and filter wool, I use syphon tube as an intake for it and the return just going back to the tank, makes a good vac for taking your time doing all the gravel, buckets just for a water change afterwards. Its amazing how much of the gravel you miss while cleaning when your limited to bucket size and water loss.
A quick advice, this is how I siphon to,but so u don't have to hurry or don't get water in ur mouth just put ur thumb over the end of the tube to stop the water from coming down(sry for bad gramatic English isn't my main language)
Quick Q, I will be getting some baby razorback musk turtles. I have a 75 gallon tank. From substrate (river rock) to water surface its about 10-11 inches deep. So I was on some forums and they were saying anything over 2X the shell length and it will drown (no joke they are basically anything outside the posted guidelines they have for turtles, including species specific and people are like IT WILL DIE. Yet, on youtube I am seeing people keep baby musk turtles in full tanks(I have no intention of doing that). I have put TONS of decorations and things for them to climb on. I personally don't think 10 inches is too deep especially with plenty of rest areas and structures with easy inclines to the surface.
