In this video I have a 2008 F350 that came in with a check engine light on and intermittently the oil light coming on the dash. Confirmed check engine lamp and oil light coming on. This truck was previously in the shop and we found excessive sludge, no has much larger problems. Join me on this adventure to try to keep this 6.4 dinosaur on the road but sometimes they have to just die. Let's get started.

Only so much can be done with a vehicle. You can only do your best and sometimes things just happen. Sometimes good and others not so good. I hope the owner appreciates you doing as much as you could for him.

What President was in office last time he got an oil change? Bush 41????

Unfortunately he bought it with quite a bit of miles on it so most likely the damage was done from previous owner. Thanks for watching.

That was a lot of sludge. I wonder how many idle hours the truck has. What engine flush product did you use? The engine looked pretty clean afterwards.

Not sure how many idle hours. The customer bought the truck with around 70k miles on it I think. I blocked all ports down to crank case and used brake clean and brush to clean in the head. Did not touch passenger side. Did oil change after replacing everything, then I used BG engine flush product, ran it for like an hour. Then changed the oil again. Thanks for watching.

If you had to do it all over again, would you do that original repair?

Well no we wouldn't but ask we do is what's in front of us and it all came in stages. Thanks for watching. We stopped and gave customer the advice to replace the engine and he declined

Is all that goo from the EGR? What is the millage. I know timly oil and filter changes are a must was a log being kept. Whats the story. Is it worth another 20+K$

That is not goo it is sludge and that is from lack of oil changes. When the truck came in the last visit where I did the all the work was the first time we had seen the truck. Unfortunately the customer bought the truck like this. He had it for a while but the damage was done. No it is not worth another anything and needs an engine or rebuild. Thank you for watching.

At the 3 minute mark you point out an electrical connection on the passenger side between the battery and the filter housing. I disconnected that connector and tried to get my truck to turn over like the one in the video but my truck acted like there were no batteries in the truck. When I reconnected the connector it started up and ran of course. My truck is an '09 with manual transmission. Am I missing another step to be able to check compression without having the engine turn completely over and run?? Thanks.

How are you powering that connector? That connector goes directly to the starter. You can message me on Instagram and I can help you out more. Thanks for watching

@@NutsandBoltswithTone thank you so much, I don't have Instagram, I had both batteries connected like normal operation, and disconnected that one particular connector and the truck did nothing. As soon as I reconnected the one at the 3 minute mark the truck starts and runs.

@bradsmith5838 do you have the key off? If key is off truck should not start. Should just be applying power to the starter

So I take it it was probably the piston? I am unfortunately having same problem with a truck I just bought 2008 ford F250 turbo diesel 6.4 power stroke and I’m about to attempt to check and see if the crank case on driver side looks like bc I have 0 compression from cylinder #2 😢

How long ago was the last oil change? Did he even say?

Unfortunately he had only had the truck for 10k I think. Maybe more but he has done the maintenance since he had it. Damage was done before he owned it.

Yeah I feel the same way, I was blown away when it came back with a dead cylinder. Thanks for watching.
