You just saved my butt with this compression test video. I almost traded in my Hummer for a used 64 and now no because of you that the 6-4 I was looking at has no compression on a number 3 cylinder. Thanks a million

I'm really happy to hear this! Do yourself a favor and stay away from all 6.4s

Okay, #6 has an intake valve not opening issue. Just did 3 different 6.4s from 2008 with similar issues. I suspect that the rocker retaining clips are allowing the slightest movements to be the root cause of this being a constant problem. The last 2 took a push rid set and clips. Problem solved.

Give the engine a little bump, it should lower the piston and you should see the hole top of the piston. And the cylinder wall. Or a valve is stuck open.

Good videos of the basics. AVI sells a bore scope the can go 90 degrees in the cylinder. Macias Diagnostics LLC Cumming Ga.

When you did the cyl 8 compression test.. i heard 2 poofs per spin.. when you redid cyl 6, i heard only 1 poof per spin... i bet theres an intake rocker arm or push rod that isnt participating

Exactly what I said and my girl kinda rolled her eyes like "sure". 🤣

I'm thinking rocker or push rod, The valve is stuck in the open position way the cover has to come off before you start setting dollar bills good luck. When was the last time you raced that truck?
Do not race the 6.4. Bad things will happen. Even if it doesn't have an aftermarket tune. These are not I repeat not a race race-ready engine.

What about checking the rocker arms ? Before we call the motor bad

Worn rocker arms will not cause low compression. I have seen rocker arms adjusted too tight cause low compression on a Cummins but powerstrokes don't have adjustable rocker arms.

Lifter isues? I don't know. Could you tell more by taking the valve cover off?

I have seen some comments on this video recently about it being a possible stuck valve or bad bridge. I just knew from experience that wasn't it and I should have explained that better. The truck was bought by another customer and we rebuilt the engine. We found broken piston rings on cylinder 6. The short block was replaced.

We sold it to a local guy. He told me about a year later it had broken piston rings and he put a short block in it.
