One big thing I'd recommend on the 5r110 automatics is whenever you do a maintenance on them clean all the grounds on batteries, block, and body. These transmissions have a habit of having shorts to ground and causing the pump gears to fail.

Where do you check the transmission fluid level? I can’t find the plug anywhere

There's a dipstick under the hood, passenger side, near the cab

Is this in a sate that uses salt on roads? Gorgeous truck but that pan was quite oxidized. I'm thinking about doing this fluid change as my records do not indicate it's ever been done and it has 82K miles on it (2010 F-250 6.4). Yeah, I don't drive it much but I try to drive a few tanks of diesel through it every month or three. It gets better mileage than my Jeep TJ but diesel costs a lot more so it's cheaper to drive the Jeep and I try to only drive the truck on the highway and keep off the stop and go city streets.

We're located in Ohio! Our winters can get crazy and our roads are heavily salted.

Questions, my 2008 f250 drives good for about 15 minutes, then temp Guage drops and wrench light comes on and truck loses most power, could that sensor be the culprit?

It would be best to get the engine code to know what is going on.

Hello, I appreciate you making this video..I have a question about the 5R110W and was hoping you could give me some advice at your convenience please?
Just bought a 09/ F450 with close to 76k miles.
I am getting a code only when I am in stop and go style traffic, but if I go on a long stretch no matter my speed the green wrench doesn't come on .. My code is a P0766"Shift solenoid D / stuck off". My reverse has a short lag at first, but no hard shifting and that goes for on any gear shifting ..My last gear is late sometimes but that could be me not used to these direct drive transmission .. Found some bad motor grounds and I cleaned and fixed them . The hundreds of threads I've read say ...I should rebuild it or do the following service and replace the pcs, replace the Fluid, Filter and clutch solenoid.
I also have a PTO system also and disabled the incoming power because the wires at the battery looked sloppy , so after driving for about an hour today... I decided to pulled over and found a small vaccum leak in the PTO pressure line and the PTO was really hot.. .. The transmission temps never get hot and they still remain fine even after today, I went slow at times around 20mph and other times I got up to 80 pushing almost 40psi on turbo and everything shifts fine.
Do you think I should just get a new reman trans and PTO and be done with it because this is where it all starts or is it worth giving the simpler repairs a try first.
The local trans shop is not an option for me either so this will be a University of You tube learning experience... I have lots of experience with motors.. just not transmission yet..
I am grateful for any words of wisdom Sir .... Thank you and God bless..

Now that Google has an "AI" response, it's a lot easier to find the answer than it was three years ago when you asked this question. So I'm curious what the answer was if you ever read this.
