I've had a Rodecaster Pro 2 since Christmas I love it I think calling it an audio interface is a disservice I think its one of the best audio interface which helps when you want perfect audio like professionals. I think the rodecaster brand is still fine for people who want that audio that's all I use it for anyways with obs and keep my settings on obs locked to my prefrences.
I’m going to buy one literally right now after having a stream deck plus and Wave XLR. The stream deck just has way to many buttons that I don’t need and sit their a while setting it up but the Wave XLR is the most overpriced audio interface. If it’s for the software you get that with the stream deck but you can’t even go from headphones to audio monitors on their actual “interface”. I was wondering if it’s worth buying another interface with the stream deck but it I like the all in one product and I can technically have a stream deck on my iPad. As a basic streamer and starting podcast Rode is solid I think. I will say I looked at Aver Media for half the price
The microphone processing is very cheap and can all be done with free stuff, and you're missing out on the flexibility of being able to put processing on every track and any free vsts out there a better deal would be the Presonus Quantum ES 4, then you could use studio one for processing and routing and you'd have a LOT more flexibility and control over your sound
Great video. I came from the GoXLR to the Rodecaster myself and one other thing I've noticed is routing tables need a huge update on the Rodecaster. GoXLR had stream deck integration and routing table change settings for in the fly single button press changes. The Rodecaster on the other hand takes about 7 button pressed to change a single audio route. I just yesterday suggested to someone to get the Wave XLR and Stream Deck + over a Rodecaster for these exact reasons. The Rodecaster is currently, for streaming, a huge waste of potential. Its an amazing product with an amazing value proposition, but it just can't live up to the potential it has without some major software tweaks. The hardwares all there Rode, now if we could just get some streamer oriented updates for routing, mixes, and audio lines this would be the biggest no brainer for every streamer out there.
Wanted to comment here for all those with dual pc's. Yes people get buggy ones and things will mess up from what I hear (mine has been fine so far) but for streaming with 2 computers this thing is amazing and was my only solution. Tried Goxlr and a few others but they did not have the sound quality I liked without sacrificing my own audio so my audience could hear it better. (I had to do a strange setup with my Elgato capture card to make it work nicely with the goxlr). This is just my own experience though and you also have to put into consideration the cords you use to power it if you use a regular cable it's gonna say a serge is detected as it will attempt to charge the device. For those curious I use two pc's with the same MSI board and my headset is the nova pro wireless note to connect to this device with less noise you will need a 6.35mm 1/4 Male to 3.5mm 1/8 Female Stereo Headphone Adapter Audio Jack if you plan to plug it into the back. The front does have a 3.5mm port though if you want to try that. So far sound on this has been amazing and controlling all my audio's is smooth as the goxlr I tried before. But ah if you only have one pc this is really overkill tbh.
Did you try using the window's "listen to device" through one of the Rodecaster channel so you can adjust the volume level on the rodecaster instead of using a virtual one? Granted i'm using the rodecaster on a single pc setup (2 usb connected into rodecaster duo) and it works fine tbh. My setup is the main audio out is through my Topping Dac/Amp, and all rodecaster's audio (except for mic) goes through "Listen to this device" playback in windows volume setting
How is the wave xlr headphone audio quality? Main reason im lookin RC duo is the high quality headphone outputs. Wave xlr looks really cheap and only 3.5 jack. I just want high quality mic sound with sm7b & good quality headphone audio no matter what studio headphones i use and faders to control game audio and discord thats it. So is the RC best one for 500$ price point or would be bridge cast better or the elgato setup?
I have DT990 pros and like he mentioned it was sad and that much for an interface and I couldn’t switch to audio monitors from the interface quickly… that’s kind of sad
The Elgato combo was the same price as the Rode Duo for me ($600 AUD , $395 USD) so ive opted for the Rode. The onboard processing was the biggest draw for me. Hopefully i made the right call.
I was seconds away from pulling the trigger on the rodecaster but my guy told me to check out one more review. Thos is what I needed to watch! Thank you mate for saving me $150 🙂👍
Hi man, please make a video guide to Windows sound settings with Rodecaster Duo + Shure SM7b I bought exactly the same set, but my sound is very quiet and very flat. I beg you. Especially precise volume settings in Windows on sound devices. as well as settings in Rodecaster itself. If you don't have time for a video, please at least reply with links to screenshots with settings.
I was finally able to replace the GOXLR with the SD+ and the XLR Dock! using Wave link and all the stream deck plugins - the options are ENDLESS. audio routing is amazing also! XLR Dock can support up to 250 ohm headphones also which is amazing from one device.
I sent my RCP2 back because of most of these reasons. Rolands Bridge Caster X is my next choice, software needs some tweeking but apart from that its a solid product and the sound is amazing.
I think you should checkout the Presonus Quantum ES 4, it would give you studio one which would give you a lot more flexibility over processing your audio.......and you'd have ALOT more efx lol
Elgato is a streaming gear oriented company, and that’s why they understand what we need, and that’s why I ditched my goxlr for the stream deck plus, the plus has submixes and VST support which is invaluable. By the way you don’t need a wave xlr with the plus, any interface will do, I’m using a Yamaha AG06 with it, the wave xlr is limiting because it only has headphones output, no monitor output.
100% the lack of support for any hardware to control the Unify virtual channels is a pain - that and the lack of support for VST's on those virtual channels Which is frustrating as all hell because otherwise I'd fully dive into the Rode ecosystem with my Streamer X, rather than half use it because the dual PC interface element is why i bought it in the first place, and have started using it again, but in tandem with Wave Link also
So my GoXLR is on its way out and debating on buying this for streaming. My biggest concern from your video is the inability to put my game audio to a fader. Has this been "fixed" yet? I really like the idea of the wireless connetion for Rode mic's as Ive also been getting into VR streaming and having a wireless mic would be greatly beneficial. Plus I run a Dual PC setup so running USB-C to both PCs seams like a no brainer. Would really love you input if the software has been updated to allow mic/discord/game audio to be addressed to the physical faders
I picked up the Pro Duo, i like it for the most part but price point vs. flexible features doesn’t cut it for me. I’ve been waiting for an update as well. On my alternate setup I’m running a Becan mic and mixer which just works for me. Will be keeping an eye on your channel for future updates.
@@StreamGearTalkI think I’m getting one and hope software gets better but I don’t like the wave XLR and streamdeck plus is overkill in buttons for me. Plus my DT990 pros sounded like crap. Have you seen or tried Aver Media all in one mixer? I guess Amazon is the only way but I’m at a Guitar Center if you have a better suggestion? 😂
i have rodecaster Duo since half a year. I stream with it, no problem. But i don't use Unify, but Rode Central. Discord, game sound, mike, i can set them as i want. But there is a trick. For the music and avoid DMCA Strike, you must use secondary helmet output and connect to the line in port of the pc.
I am not a gamer. I stream live radio shows via OBS/Mixcloud. I have a Shure USB Mic/Shure MVX2U Digital Audio Interface, directly into my PC and use the audio output capture on OBS to capture the music from a Spotify Playlist and audio files on my PC for intro/outro and audio bumpers. It works and sounds good but playing the audio files is clunky. You have to time it to trigger the audio file bumper at the end of a song, make sure you stop the Spotify playlist and then when the bumper is over, start the next Spotify song. Could I use the Duo for this application and use the hot buttons to play the audio files on my PC? Would I still have monitoring issues that you discussed? If you have a better option, I am all ears. Thanks and great presentation.
Hey man, I really appreciated the video as someone who is looking to get started streaming. Do you have a mic you recommend me to go with the Elgato Wave XLR and Stream Deck plus?
Would you have a recommendation for a device that can make any mic sound broadcast quality like this and also has noise reduction settings for use in an untreated room? I mainly just want something to help me mix & process audio for beginner voiceover demos since I know very little about eq
Did you encounter the problem on Elgato XLR that the headphone sound will cut out for absolutely no identifiable reason randomly? We stream quiet a lot on a regular basis and sometimes the headphone sound stops working 4 times in a 8 hour stream.... to fix it we have to stop the wavlink process in the task manager and disconnect the wave xlr usb cable and reconnect it... start wave link again and then it works again... do u know this and have a solution for it?
I returned mine last year exactly because of it. I couldn't monitor my audio properly on stream and it pissed me off. I wonder if they fixed it a year later but i'm not willing to buy another one to test.
Would have been super nice to have the same features over to the streamer x. I’m going back to wave xlr and hd60x to ditch the streamer x due to simplicity.
Every RodeCaster I've had (2 RodeCasters Pro, and so far 2 RodeCaster Pro 2's (about to send this one off for the same repair)) have had the exact same issue where my pads just start firing on their own whenever I touch my desk. Good power, firmwares updated, separate circuit, different PCs, etc. When I get it and reconfigure it for my settings (thanks SD Card!) it works great for a couple of months until it starts having the same problem again. This last one worked for me since March of 2023. I've since purchased the Wave XLR and Stream Deck+. The only annoyance I have is when my computer wakes from sleep the headset or Wave Link software may or may not be talking to one another, and sometimes I have to kill both the Stream Deck and Wave Link software and restart them. Other than that, it's been great.
That PC sleep/wavelink/stream deck issue is driving me insane. How is it not addressed? Sorry to hear about your rodecarster, that's wild. I've heard lots of quality control issues out in the wild and it's really unfortunate. Now they've acquired Mackie I'm concerned that they won't update the RC and instead out out a new product altogether to do what we all wish the RC could do
@@StreamGearTalk To me, the wavelink/stream deck thing is the biggest problem. I don't know how to fix it. I may end up reaching out to support. I would also love to have a 2nd PC input. on the Wave XLR or something. I used that a lot on my RCP2. There IS a kind of janky work around with using the input from an Elgato game capture card, and while I do have a couple extras lying around, I don't really want to do that if I don't have to. That said, I am making do with the 2nd PC input on my Arctis Nova Pro Wireless interface. It's not great but it works.
was thinking about getting the rodecaster duo since i needed to use another mic for my set up (currently using goxlr with only one xlr input). did rode ever do anything regarding the fader issues ? something that i use constantly is faders to control discord and system audio separately. not a deal breaker but a bit iffy now.
No BUT thanks to a fellow viewer such as yourself a solution has been found to add 4 sources on a fader each to the duo. I'm running mic/PC/ps5/ disc( or music) on a fader each. Video coming soon but basically I bought the Rode VXLR (3.5mm to XLR adapter), a ground loop isolator. Run a 3.5mm from my monitor (this runs my ps5 audio) into the isolator, into the VXLR, and plugged that in to the second XLR input in the duo. That freed up USB 2 now for Spotify or disc or possibly both? Still testing.
I use Zoom's Podcast Mic pack which is $80 US Dollars and Focusrite's Vocaster one which is around $100 US Dollars or less for my podcast set up. Perfect radio quality voice every single time and the Vocaster One comes with Hindenberg Lite audio editing software along with a 6 month subscrition to Hindenberg Pro editing software. That's all you need and you can get away with less.
I really like your sincerity here. I actually was about to buy this for streaming.. have you heard of the hercules stream 200 xlr? I really need to manager multiple audio sources and incorporate an xlr mic.
@@StreamGearTalk It would be amazing to get your input on that device, specially the Stream 200 XLR, it seems to manage multiple audio level for both you and audience independently on the screen! Im still doing my homework and choosing between both. Thanks for teaching me about the rodecaster duo hurdles you’ve ran into
This is exactly what I experienced and it was such a HUGE BUMMER. I dont understand why Rode wont make this thing more usable for streamers... :( it comes off as a GOXLR replacement but it falls short with routing :( I ended up returning it and picking up the Rolland Bridge cast and I love it.
Returned the duo watched you vod on beacn mix create and Elgato wave went out and bought the wave to go with my rodes podmic usb and beacn mix create. Rodes duo didn’t work well with the beacn well
@@crafttobaffto Tell me about the disappointment :D ... I just do podcasting and record. and the way Rodecaster handles the Shure SM7b is exceptional. I hated dealing with Elgato's multiple devices and software and wanted a powerful one with faders to do things physically. Let's see
I had the Duo and just recently sold it and went back to Elgato as well. The rodecaster is GREAT for just audio and recording.. say doing youtube videos.. streaming.. its not a great device at all.. its just not simple to define audio
So, in that case, what do I need to use to change the Discord OR game audio only for viewers and not myself? No joke, I spent like 25 hours on research and my conclusion was that it wasn't worth it because it barely offers anything specifically for streamers.
@@StreamGearTalk It's about Rodecasters in general, that they do not offer enough functionality for streamers. I'm not *yet* familiar with Elgato's Wave XLR, so I can't comment anything on this, whether they have the functionality to lower program only for viewers or not.
If you download Rode Unify (their version of wavelink) you can assign it to 1 fader and adjust all volume levels for all your channels via the software. It's what I'm currently using since wavelink and been crapping out on me since the last two updates
Hi! I have a problem. I have just the same micro and elgato wave with the streamdeck and a cloudlifter too. But the problem is that if I turn up the audio gain, I hear a lot of background noise and if I put a noise filter, my voice is distorted. No matter how hard I try to remove the background noise, I can't do it without it being low. Could you help me?😅😅
@@StreamGearTalk have tried it, the background noise is not heard at all but I compare the volume with other streamers and it is very high, but still my volume I hear it low😩😩😂😂
I just have a simple request that I need help with, how can I get audio from my Xbox and hear my Kick alerts as well on my pc, idk can’t rap my head around it, I use the Elgato exo system since it’s more towards streamers.
@@Zephrii_o I'm likely reading this wrong but I feel like there's something in here I don't understand. So u want a stream where u and ur stream can hear both the Xbox & PC sounds, is what I'm presuming This doesn't even need the Rode Duo for that lol. When ur capture card is connected to ur PC, u can toggle the sound settings in either Windows or OBS (I did it on Windows so I can hear when I'm not recording e.g.). Right click the sound icon in the bottom right on ur screen and then: - Sounds - Recording tab - Capture card audio - Listen - then check "Listen to this device" - & make sure playback goes to the headset ur listening through; "Default" or otherwise Allowing for Xbox audio to ur PC. Hope this helps!
I guess i'm lucky in I already have 3 streamdecks including the plus. Perhaps you can split the audio from the PS5 into the caster with TRRS? Just a shot in the dark.
I still never figured out how to plug the ps5 into the roadcaster duo without it starting to sound crazy after a min being pluged in. That has been the only thing stopping me from streaming. If anyone has an answer to this i would love to hear it.
@StreamGearTalk yes sir. I seen your other video for a PC and the work around you had but I'm on a mac. Thanks for the response as well. I really need help. On the verge of selling everything and saying the hell with it 💀
I'm sorry but Im not familiar with macs so I'm not 100% sure but what I can tell you is that USB from rodecaster to ps5 will not work. It makes that crazy noise because the two devices don't communicate with one another properly. I ended up selling everything, it's s great device but not for streamers
@StreamGearTalk so you recommend that same setup that's in this video for a mac too? I have the rose usb mic would that be able to connect to the wav XLR somehow? Or would I be able to take all the sound from the playstation to the wave XLR with chat audio included. I used to be on PC until about a year ago... seems like converting to mac has been a major headache lol! Any advice is appreciated
Noise gate works fine for me, it just requires work to really get it set up. An expander would've been preferred though. As far as mic clean up, I'm assuming you mean eq? If so, now after months of use I agree. Only 3 bands for eq is not enough. I usually use 4, sometimes 5
Hypothetically yes. This video was made way before the new update and I've since sold my duo so I can't test it out. And since I don't have hands on time with the update it wouldn't be fair of me to comment on its quality. But, I hope they nailed it cause the potential was there all along.
@@StreamGearTalk I have a video of the implementation on my channel that you can check out. I'm using a Mac with Ecamm but that really doesn't impact the implementation of the virtual channels. I have Chrome going to one channel and Safari to another, for instance. Works pretty great. Having 4 virtual channels on top of the physical channels is pretty nice.
Seriously whats the point of buying this over a goxlr.. I personally need this just because my goxlr has so many audio issues, sucks theres no real good alternative
Haha, I can't buy a goxlr since it is dead, this product can't do what I need. I just returned a 1 day old bridge cast xl due to some defect. I just want to make content.... with my xlr podmic 😂
I'm a bit surprised by the company's approach. If they did this update, they would definitely defeat Elgato. And because of this delay, they are still unreliable. They have a team of experienced developers.
Or you can just run the stream deck + side by side with the Duo if you want more virtual channels 😊. The preamps in the Wave XLR are terrible compared to the Duo
@@StreamGearTalk I went from the Elgato products to the GoXLR and now I’m on the Duo. It works for my setup and the promised virtual channels will be nice, if they even come, some say they’ll probably make a new product that has them and say they made good 😊. What’re your thoughts on Roland’s Bridge Cast X? Looks to have everything a streamer wants
All that time for us to only get a BETA that still doesn't give us exactly what we wanted or asked for. It's honestly not a device for streamers. They lied to us. I don't view what they've done with the Beta as the solution we were seeking at all. GoXLR was far ahead of it's time albeit not perfect. I feel like the RCP II & Duo failed to learn from its predecessors.
In short not compatible with your console... which was never advertised anyway. But maybe in the future. Futhermore system audio... program sounds all come from the windows audio, so they will all come from 1 audio source. (All joined up) So windows audio slider. But heh, why not just game via a pc gamer pc, rather than console, as you best games are on the pc now right? And you can use your ps5 pads too.
Just coming from Rode official announcement vid of their beta - they listened to u bro . Good on you letting them know

@@StreamGearTalk very interesting. i appreciate your response and look forward to your video on it !
Hey thanks for your input! I've never heard of the Hercules before. Is this a device I should look into?
@@StreamGearTalk It would be amazing to get your input on that device, specially the Stream 200 XLR, it seems to manage multiple audio level for both you and audience independently on the screen! Im still doing my homework and choosing between both. Thanks for teaching me about the rodecaster duo hurdles you’ve ran into
This is exactly what I experienced and it was such a HUGE BUMMER. I dont understand why Rode wont make this thing more usable for streamers... :(
it comes off as a GOXLR replacement but it falls short with routing :(
I ended up returning it and picking up the Rolland Bridge cast and I love it.
Returned the duo watched you vod on beacn mix create and Elgato wave went out and bought the wave to go with my rodes podmic usb and beacn mix create. Rodes duo didn’t work well with the beacn well
I just watched your previous video and returned my Elgato gear and waiting for the Rodecaster Due to arrive 😂 Now I'm confused!
I literally have my coming today then saw this drop 😅
@@crafttobaffto Tell me about the disappointment :D ... I just do podcasting and record. and the way Rodecaster handles the Shure SM7b is exceptional. I hated dealing with Elgato's multiple devices and software and wanted a powerful one with faders to do things physically. Let's see
I had the Duo and just recently sold it and went back to Elgato as well. The rodecaster is GREAT for just audio and recording.. say doing youtube videos.. streaming.. its not a great device at all.. its just not simple to define audio
@@NickleNinja2 🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴
What's the name of the device on the left? (From the thumbnail)
Those are the elgato stream deck plus (top) and the elgato wave xlr (bottom)
So, in that case, what do I need to use to change the Discord OR game audio only for viewers and not myself? No joke, I spent like 25 hours on research and my conclusion was that it wasn't worth it because it barely offers anything specifically for streamers.
For which device?
Could you help me?😅😅
What's your gain set to?
@@StreamGearTalk Without cloudlifter 50 and with cloudlifter 35
So that's a total of 60db of gain. Try lowering the gain to like a total of 45.
@@StreamGearTalk have tried it, the background noise is not heard at all but I compare the volume with other streamers and it is very high, but still my volume I hear it low😩😩😂😂
Mmmmm you up for a discord call over the coming days? Id have to hear it
I just have a simple request that I need help with, how can I get audio from my Xbox and hear my Kick alerts as well on my pc, idk can’t rap my head around it, I use the Elgato exo system since it’s more towards streamers.
Basically a stream that includes my Xbox audio and my pc audio as well that would be my alerts, Spotify, TH-cam ETC
@@Zephrii_o I'm likely reading this wrong but I feel like there's something in here I don't understand. So u want a stream where u and ur stream can hear both the Xbox & PC sounds, is what I'm presuming
This doesn't even need the Rode Duo for that lol. When ur capture card is connected to ur PC, u can toggle the sound settings in either Windows or OBS (I did it on Windows so I can hear when I'm not recording e.g.). Right click the sound icon in the bottom right on ur screen and then:
- Sounds
- Recording tab
- Capture card audio
- Listen
- then check "Listen to this device"
- & make sure playback goes to the headset ur listening through; "Default" or otherwise
Allowing for Xbox audio to ur PC. Hope this helps!
@rode you guys need to update the RCP2 & DUO to better accommodate streamers. I refuse to switch from my GoXLR until this is addressed.
I guess i'm lucky in I already have 3 streamdecks including the plus. Perhaps you can split the audio from the PS5 into the caster with TRRS? Just a shot in the dark.
And now the elgato stream deck plus and xlr is cheaper if u buy the combo attachment 😊
I still never figured out how to plug the ps5 into the roadcaster duo without it starting to sound crazy after a min being pluged in. That has been the only thing stopping me from streaming. If anyone has an answer to this i would love to hear it.
And with a mac computer by the way
Are you connecting it via USB?
Any advice is appreciated
did you ever consider the bridge caster x?
Is that the Roland device?
yup
Looks great but reviews said the noise gate and mic cleanup options need work
Noise gate works fine for me, it just requires work to really get it set up. An expander would've been preferred though. As far as mic clean up, I'm assuming you mean eq? If so, now after months of use I agree. Only 3 bands for eq is not enough. I usually use 4, sometimes 5
@@StreamGearTalk you talking about the Duo? If so I meant for the Bridge Cast 😊
I was looking into buying a Rodecaster Duo. This was timed perfectly. I will wait! Lol
Virtual Channels should fix your issue with the Rodecaster Duo, no?
@@jeremyhubbell does it do submixes?
@@StreamGearTalk Yup!
Rodecaster duo / pro 2
500-800$ 7-9 Faders:
>No motorised faders
>Cant route programs to faders
What the hell did rode mean by this?
Seriously whats the point of buying this over a goxlr.. I personally need this just because my goxlr has so many audio issues, sucks theres no real good alternative
dude thanks, i already had it ordered but i canceled it. You are correct
This is one instance I wish I was wrong 😭
has this been addressed?
Unify integration and more virtual channels? No :(
No they the streamdeck plus now which has an audio interface in to it alresdy..no need to buy xlr now
Haha, I can't buy a goxlr since it is dead, this product can't do what I need. I just returned a 1 day old bridge cast xl due to some defect. I just want to make content.... with my xlr podmic 😂
It need virtually channel for all fatter so you can manage each audio source
This was a great video.
You're not wrong
@@StreamGearTalk I went from the Elgato products to the GoXLR and now I’m on the Duo. It works for my setup and the promised virtual channels will be nice, if they even come, some say they’ll probably make a new product that has them and say they made good 😊. What’re your thoughts on Roland’s Bridge Cast X? Looks to have everything a streamer wants
I haven't gotten my hands on the Roland one, I buy 99% of the items I review here so maybe some day soon I'll check it out

Rode do need to say something even if it's only to say that they are still working on the update
About a month ago it was revealed on X I believe that rode was rolling out a beta firmware test. Supposedly this is the one we've been waiting for
@@StreamGearTalk and was it updated ?
Bought one returned it the next day
All that time for us to only get a BETA that still doesn't give us exactly what we wanted or asked for.
And you can use your ps5 pads too.
how about a simple podcast- live streamer set up for a noob
avermedia livestreamer ;)
