  • In this video I have explained about one carbon metabolism reactions and the donors and formation of one carbon derivatives. Tetrahydrofolate (THF) plays a central role in one carbon metabolism. Vitamin B12, B6 and B2 that is cobalamin, pyridoxine and riboflavin, respectively, helps in the formation of one carbon derivatives from THF. One carbon metabolism participates in synthesis of thymidylate monophosphate, C2 and C8 of purine ring, synthesis of glycine from serine and conversion of homocystienine into methionine.

    First of all I'll be honest out here. Before going through this video I was totally puzzled about the One carbon metabolism concept but post watching this video, every concept related to the same is completely demystified. This video is GOLD.
    Thank you so much, Sir.

      You are most welcome. Since deoxythymidine is only used in DNA synthesis hence its sugar has to be in deoxy form. This is why deoxythymidine is loosely termed as just thymidine and hence sometimes it is just written as TMP, TDP, TTP. Yes in perfect world it should be referred as deoxythymidine.

    thank u sir. very helpful
    sir can u plz tell
    like u told folate def. may cause homocysteinemia.
    Can cobalmine def. cause homocysteinemia?

    • @DrMungli
      @DrMungli  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are most welcome Aditya Kaul. Yes cobalamin deficiency will also cause homocysteinemia. This is by causing "folate trap" thereby decreasing the conversion of homocysteine into methionine leading to elevation of homocysteine in the blood. You can watch my "folate trap" video as in the link below.

      In the below video I have explained all causes for homocysteinemia
