  • In this video I have explained the metabolism of methionine into s-adenosylmethionine (sam), participation of SAM in methylation reaction, formation of homocysteine, fate of homocysteine into methionine or cysteine formation. Homocysteine metabolism into cystathionine and then into cysteine and the catabolism of methionine into propionyl CoA is explained. Use of methyl cobalamin and folate in the methionine synthase reaction is also explained.

    Hi Doctor, thank you for your explanation. I took a short course of gabapentin and had to get off of it because of side effects. The somnolence I had on it never completely went away and I've been somnolent now for 49 days after taking it. For the first 40 days after stopping I also had anorgasmia, like some part of my brain was inactivated. At the 12 day mark I checked my thyroid and my TSH was 4.54. Last time I’d checked some months ago it was 3.11. 3 weeks later I did some extensive blood tests and everything came back normal except my homocysteine level was 17.8. This time my TSH was a little lower at 4.24. I am vegan and do take B12 and iodine supplements. For about a week now I am also taking an additional B vitamin complex supplement, as well as some creatine, which, according to Dr. Greger, can lower homocysteine levels in vegans. Do you have any clue why the gabapentin fatigue hasn't gone away? Could it be that I was already on the verge of a deficiency before and gabapentin’s interference with my GABA chemistry pushed it over the edge?

    You said that methionine is an essential amino acid meaning it can't be produced by the body. But later you show homocysteine being converted and producing methionine. How is that possible? Wouldn't that make methionine non essential?

    • @md.ehsanulislam604
      @md.ehsanulislam604 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As an essential amino acid, methionine is not synthesized de novo (new)in humans and other animals, which must ingest methionine or methionine-containing proteins. Here homocysteine comes from methionine as well. So it's not new synthesis of methionine rather regeneration of methionine.

      I guess your English is better!!! For you I cannot change my English now, it is too late for me. There are many videos in TH-cam made by native English speakers. You can surely watch them.
