  • In this video I have explained how alcohol is metabolised in the liver. Alcohol or ethanol is metabolised predominantly in the liver into acetaldehyde. Alcohol is metabolised into acetaldehyde by alcohol dehydrogenase. Acetaldehyde is further metabolised into acetate by acetaldehyde dehydrogenase. Acetaldehyde is the toxic byproduct of alcohol. Most of the toxic metabolic effects of alcohol is because of acetaldehyde and increased levels of NADH+H. Alcohol causes changes in variety of metabolic pathways leading to various signs and symptoms.
    You can watch my video on toxic effects of alcohol as in the link below.

    What is the reason why the percentage of alcohol decreases since the temperature of alcohol first comes during fermentation? Example 1 st liter abv 70 % Next 2 nd liter abv 30 % but why......?

    It is my humble understanding that most enzymes require one or more minerals to activate enzymes. Am I correct in remembering that in the pathway(s) you have described zinc and molybdenum are necessary for these reactions to proceed?

    • @DrMungli
      @DrMungli  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many trace metals acts as a cofactor for enzymes and are some times required for enzyme activity (meaning necessary requirement), some acts as modulators of enzyme activity.

    • @WhyNot-si4pj
      @WhyNot-si4pj 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      (Alcohol dehydrogenase) enzyme has ZINC as its cofactor , while (acetaldehyde dehydrogenase) enzyme has COPPER as its cofactor !
      BTW ; I read in textbooks that an isozyme of (acetaldehyde dehydrogenase) enzyme utilizes FAD as its coenzyme to yield in the process FADH2 !

    Dr. Mungli,is there a class of person that doesn't metabolize acetate normally?? And does high levels of acetate produce what is known in AA circles as the "phenomenon of craving"?

    Thanks Dr Mungli. Does Metadoxine work in the case of EtOH value of 364?

    • @DrMungli
      @DrMungli  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Metadoxine has shown a benificial effect in both acute and chronic alcohol intake. 364 seems potentially fatal alcohol concentration.

    • @thomaslapsley8145
      @thomaslapsley8145 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I thought it was a sad case with EtOH=364. Some person sent it to me to review. The patient was presented with 20% of the body with 2nd degree burns but, with a COHB=4.1%, normal for a smoker. Initially the doctor reported acidosis with pH-7.24/PCO2-24/PO2-138. The doctor didn't give any medication, hemodialysis, only athe used a cynanokit that turned the urine etc... purple which I think is normal if combine with the old kit of methylene blue and the new kit, and intubated with respirator values of TV-450/AC-26/Peep-5/FIO2-50%. This changed the ABG to pH-7.40/PCO2-36/PO2-183/HCO3-20. Only pushing the PO2 high to 183. This value also seems dangerous high. What is a extremely dangerous level of PO2? I know the normal high limit is 100.

    They say people who have strong aldh2
    Enzymes have higher tolerance of alcohol
    Than aldh2 deficit people (whi have high risk of getting cancer also )
    So that means aldh2 people are safe to drink
    Or they have great chances of getting fatty liver in future?!
