    This is the best guitar that's been built for the ggbo22. I think it's my favorite guitar ever, actually. This guy absolutely killed it.

    I love it. I'd be plugging it into an old Marshall 50. I have a sneaking suspicion it'd squawk...like Leslie West squawk.🚀

    The chambering/weight release on this guitar is insane. Very cool and clever.

    Beautiful guitar. If I didn’t already have two redwood guitars, I’d be all over this one. Even with redwood guitars, most aren’t curly redwood (plain sinker is most common).

    Hello Fellow Professional competitor. Love the guitar. It's nice to see someone else build a guitar, instead of letting a machine cut it all out and then assemble it like paper dolls. Good luck in the competition.

      Thanks! I was surprised how many competitors were using automated processes in their builds. I cant say I blame them either, but I enjoy all the hand carving and details

    Super design, I really love those cutaways; and the hidden pots, my only worry is that sticky pad, haven’t had a lot of success with those in the long term. I would like to see something a little more permanent. But it’s still a beautiful thing.

    • @tomgrantguitars
      @tomgrantguitars  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree, it will be interesting to see if its still there in a couple years. I actually had to replace what you saw in the video because it fell off after two days. I ended up sanding the contact area and cleaning it, then reattaching the controls with an industrial adhesive tape and it has been very solid since then.

  • @Joe___R
    @Joe___R ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The hidden volume controls are a great idea, keeping it looking very clean. You use some beautiful, stripey mahogany combined with the figured redwood really makes your design stand out.

    Very nice build. The multi-level design is awesome, coupled with the side rolling pots. Gorgeous top. But I'm left with one very important question... Where the hell did you get that big ass bottle of Tru-Oil? 😆

    • @tomgrantguitars
      @tomgrantguitars  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much! That bottle took a while to find, I realized I was in trouble when one of the little bottles barley got me through the first two coats. That redwood top is a sponge and a film finish would be much better in the future.

    • @DJBuglip
      @DJBuglip ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had ordered that bottle for this archtop in my profile pic, the 8oz, and Amazon lost it. I complained. So they found me a bottle and sent it. 32 oz. I'm an amateur, I'll have tru oil for years. But that means Amazon has a 32 oz. bottle of tru oil if you can find it.

    • @BoneheadGuitars
      @BoneheadGuitars ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DJBuglip That's awesome. But I've had little bottles dry up on me. I wish it was easier to keep it for the long haul.

    • @MooCow2X2
      @MooCow2X2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While I’ve not tried the real thing. There’s a recipe for tru-oil. It’s actually very similar to danish oil with a little Japan drier thrown in.
      I think it was 5 parts thinner. 3 parts oil poly. 1 part linseed or tung oil. And a splash of Japan drier. Edit, Japan drier optional

    • @BoneheadGuitars
      @BoneheadGuitars ปีที่แล้ว

  • @timffoster
    @timffoster ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Gorgeous wood!
    Couple of thoughts:
    - It looked like you measured each fret from fret-to-fret. If so, that runs a high risk of propagating errors. You're better off if you measure the fret-to-nut distance for each fret. (Susan Gardner has a video called "Making a Fret Position Template plus an explanation of fret position and nut compensation". Well worth watching.)
    - Tune your bandsaw. :)
    And keep on making gorgeous guitars!

    • @tomgrantguitars
      @tomgrantguitars  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback, I was nervous about making the fingerboard the way I did, you can watch the video about making the neck and I explain why I did it that way. Basically I didn’t have a ruler that was accurate enough and long enough for the whole fingerboard. I was able to compensate for any mistakes when I was crowing the frets so it does play in tune all the way up

  • @Yosser70
    @Yosser70 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lovely looking guitar but those hidden controls are a real negative. You can’t get at them very well when sat down, like in the video and very slow to use in a live situation, can’t flip between neck and bridge for a solo for instance. I like the idea of hidden controls as they produce a nice clean look but they are where they are on most guitars for a reason. Seen a few try’s at it and had a go myself but it always compromises usability and that’s just a no no for me.

    The wood looks nice, but the headstock design reminds me of those $80 plywood guitars they used to sell. The hidden volume knobs are pretty much useless. This is very underwhelming coming from someone who supposedly builds guitars for a living. Despite the nice looking wood, it still looks extremely cheaply made.

    • @tomgrantguitars
      @tomgrantguitars  ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny you should say that, the headstock was actually was inspired by a vintage Japanese guitar I have that has one of the best feeling necks I've ever played.

      Thank you! The french polish wasn't originally part of the plan until the Truiol went sideways on me. If you watch the episode on the finishing process there were alot of things that went wrong that I had to go back and fix.
