Can understand your hesitancy to compete, but always love seeing your builds, Maybe a separate category like Ben vs Crimson, you vs your staff (but like 4 or 5 of them team get to collaborate together to build one guitar against you) you have brilliant minds working for you
Ben, I can understand your reservations about competing in a competition that you are involved with the running of. It just goes to show that you are a great man. Whether you decide to compete next year or not, please continue to build competition level guitars and offer them thru Great Guitar Giveaway. You, and the rest of the builders, are my heroes. ......Stacy
I know nothing about Guitars pretty much inept when it comes to music. One thing i do know and makes my heart sing with joy is watching how much love and craftsmanship goes into every build. I can see the heart and soul of each builder in their work. There's nothing more wonderful than watching a true craftsman doing what they love. Thank you all for sharing your passion with us.
Ben thank you, I actually voted Pask Makes number 1 just being awed by what he made. I have found so many new channels through this competition. Everyone that participated did so well.
I loved every second of Tye’s build. He seems like a genuinely good dude. Super happy for him. All of these guitars are so gorgeous. Just makes me want to learn so much more!
I want to thank you! After watching hours of these guitar building videos, I did in fact build my own 8-string fretless Thunderbird style bass this year! I wouldn't have done it, if I didn't believe I could.
Ben, you are an incredible & inspirational builder. You deserve to be in this competition as much as anyone competing. Don't look at it like "I'm winning my own competition." Look at it like it it - you really are good enough. If you just mailed it in and made a standard tele kit, it wouldn't get the votes. Because you do incredible things, you get attention. Be proud of yourself! Be humble - but don't be self-deprecating!
I cannot believe I was not subscribed to your channel. I have watched you for years. At first I thought, this guy is arrogant... then I learned your sense of humor and watched your skills over the years. You deserve to win as much as the other builders. You give so much of yourself and it is noticed, but probably not as noticed as it was on this video. Your love and passion for building the community of instrument making came through in this video. You inspire us to share what we know and do. God bless you and Crimson Custom Guitars! Happy New Year!
Thanks for a great video, showcasing the amazing winning guitars... worthy winners all! I can understand your conflict regarding whether to enter your builds into your own effectively Crimson run competition. I was kinda wondering about that too, and just the general awkwardness if you then became a winner. I think, the reality is this... you ARE an incredible guitar builder and luthier, that's why I , and many others, continue to watch and be inspired by your videos, work, and general positive attitude. I'm therefore not sure you actually need to 'enter' the competition, even though it kinda feels strange to add any restrictions to this superb event and community. You are the master, who many of us have learnt so much from. You created this global event, and via this and your channel have arguably done more to raise the profile of guitar making and care than anyone else. So job done, my friend! Personally, I would still want to see you build a guitar for each year's event, but possibly as inspiration only? That way we still get to watch and learn new designs and techniques, but without any of the awkwardness of winning your own competition. Whatever, keep doing what your doing, you're a wonderful person, and I'm so looking forward to visiting your guitar museum, even though I live a good way away in Scotland. 😎👍🏻
You're a good man Ben. GGBO is so uplifting; the spirit of community innovation, the showcase of "hands-on" passion, the humble measure of chisel-wielding heroes. Thanks to you and your amazing team. The hard work in making GGBO fly is very evident, and appreciated.
So totally agree with the sentiment that all knowledge has to be freely shared. I'd also like to to add that if you're the most talented or most knowledgable person in the room, then you're in the wrong room. Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to y'all.
Outstanding! Well done, Ben! You have showcased a community of special people with enormous talent and wonderful creativity! Personally, I am touched by the community and look forward to 2023! Merry Christmas!
In my mind EVERY builder deserved to WIN! I would say ‘excellent work!’… but even excellent doesn’t seem to suffice. Really beautiful guitars! I was so glad to see what Brad Angove produced. He’s a favorite of mine. During the lockdown, I needed something to ‘do’ to keep me on the right side of sanity. I came across one of Brad’s videos, and it sparked something in me. I ended up building a Telecaster/Partscaster by myself, taking a lot of inspiration from Brad. Had I not seen the casual, funny, ‘it’s OK to make mistakes - it’s learning’ manner in which he works, I don’t know that I’d have been able to work up the nerve to dive in. I learned SO many different skills along the way. I’m by no means a ‘master’ of any of them - but they’re each things I couldn’t at all do before. The successes along the way were enough to motivate me to keep going. And it’s Brad’s videos, along with those from Crimson Custom Guitars, from many others, that I owe an immense gratitude towards. It kept me sane, and I got a GREAT guitar out of the project. Felt it was worth telling the story here. I’m super grateful. You’ve all done a wonderful job, Ben. Once again… we’ll done, ALL. Amazingly beautiful instruments! 👏🏼
I really enjoy watching these competitions and watching your videos over the years, they have really inspired me. I’m starting my third guitar now and will be referring once again to your stuff. Thanks Ben!
Congratulations to all the Participants and Winners for their beautiful, innovative, and artistic designs. They are an inspiration to both Makers and Guitarists alike. I love Ben's awesome guitar, and it deserves special recognition, but outside of the formal Competition. I wish there was a component of the Competition that could fairly judge the quality of the sound and playability of perhaps the top 5 or 10 Participants. Thanks Ben for making this Competition possibly and all the good that has come from it. Happy Holidays! 😎
Ben, of course you should enter GGBO. Your love of sharing knowledge is what inspired me and so many others to start building. Thank you for all that you and the GGBO team do - hope 2023 is even better for you and all the other 'sawdust heads' out there. :)
My first choices won both... I'm ridiculously happy about that. Ben, I can understand where you reservations about competing come from. class act to give your place to Paske, so much high quality luthiery it's insanely difficult to chose between the builds, and it really pushes development of the guitar forward!
I love this competition. I heard about it from watching Pask make his and have now fallen down the rabbit hole of watching all the other competitors. I'd like to make a request though. The greatgiveaway pages where you having the entries and pictures and such, could you also include links to the videos/TH-cam pages for these artists? It'd make it easier for me to find and watch these beautiful works being made.
If you decide not to be in it next year, still should make a build that goes to one of the winners. But I see no real issues with you entering it personally.
I feel that the right choices were made. My favourites won! Not how it usually goes down. Glad to see Dan Ciminskie cam in high in the ratings too- his output is always stunning.
I love this years entries Ben I've watched so many of them and I'm in awe of the amazing talent on display. Some people say knowledge is power but I've always said that knowledge is only powerful if you share it and that is the beauty of this competition. I've promised myself that if I am lucky enough to win Neil Paskins guitar I will get lessons and learn to play but I suspect that won't happen we can but dream. Keep the competition going my friend as the bar gets higher every year
Good stuff!! Very cool ben!! And especially to all of the builders! Awesome! Thanks to all for sharing your guitars! I’m just a sucker for guitar build video.
Love this. Love it all. The passion. The energy. The mastery. And Ben you should definitely be part of the voting. I wanna see what you create! That’s a huge draw for me and I’m sure for many others.
I almost called it right Congratulations Tye!!! Shock The Fox guitars are awesome! Watch his videos and you will agree. And if you got questions. He will talk to you! Very humble nice guy. I will own one. Maybe this one if God shines on me the day of drawing. I had 2&3 swapped, but I like headstocks. I just can't get into the headless craze.
This build off is awesome!! and shoutout to Neil Paskin you are super creative, and congratulations to everyone! Like what you said there Ben around 17:30 ,“Iron sharpens iron” just to sum it up, God bless and Merry Christmas!
What a stunning line-up of awesome builds, each and everyone of them are a thing of beauty, where thought and practise create functional art. Ben, this coming year you're still going to be in there with the rest, and you're gonna have your work cut out for you :) So far, every single year has been raising the bar, and at this point, if you're winning a prize, you have earned it plain and simple. Everyone at Crimson, have a wonderful Christmas holiday, and a splendid, creative and inspirational New Year filled with awesomness. Kindest regards, kamikazen1
Merry xmas all!!! Ben conscerning your participation, since i understand your ethical dilema, you can take part as a guest of honor, or sth like that with no voting. We love to see you build. After all its the ggbo that brought all those amazing builds together!!!
Plexiglass is a great material. I have built two hollow body guitars of two sheets of plexi and a bass with six layers of quarter inch sheets of plexi. That one is a beast at 11 lbs while the guitars weigh in at 5.5 lbs. I have battery powered lights inside one guitar and stuff from my recycling bin in the other.
superb video, as entertaining and informative as always. Absolutely incredible builds. Someone should point out to Ben that the difference between 107 and 113 is 6 points not 4 points.
You should definitely always be involved in your own competition, its a kind of "come and get me!" to anyone who wants to have a go at competing against you. I know not everyone is in every category but we are all one in the competition and its cool to think we are all building together! I think this is where its important to have all categories competing at the same time too!
Yes you should take part, as it's based off a fair voting system, if yours wins it wins and by merit through others voting. It wouldn't be the same without you have some form of oh here is the idea at some point you thought of another one idea to add sometimes making life hard for yourself, and watching a form of regret mixed with panic, but then somehow not only pulling it off but omg never saw that coming. So please stay, take part yes mixed reasons why i loved it, i'll admit, but on things i do similar and end up making a job longer than i thought, and it's like oh yeah.
Ben, there is no doubt that you should remain in future competitions. Having said that, I believe you handled this perfectly by acknowledging yourself then selecting YOUR choice for whom to share it with. After seeing this it also occurred to me that maybe you should select your favorite guitar that did not make the top 3.
Yay always been a massive fan of everything tye at shock the fox has done well deserved but they are all amazing I live in hope to be able to one day build like these guys do!
I have to agree with your decision to share 3rd place, as 'Host' it puts you in a peculiar position and giving yourself a 'ghost' position might be the smartest resolution. As an aside: I play with the guitar on my knee in classical guitar position, where the plug on most guitars land right on my knee. How would you resolve this in a PRS II SE Piezo (2 plugs, battery)? If you move the whole set of plugs to the upper side (mirror location), what would you put in the space you left? Or could you do it all with an XLR or special plug in the upper side and leave the lower side plugs (ghost power would be a great addition, I hate batteries!). Any thoughts? TIA, Jas
The build-off wouldn't be complete without your entry, Ben. That said, nobody questions your skill or vision. Anybody who might be so inclined need only watch one or more of your videos. I really think you should make an entry-- you build guitars for fun, not profit, and the profit on this one goes to charity anyway-- but I don't think you should actually enter in the drawing. You don't need the skill competition or the accolades, and the whole purpose is to promote other, perhaps smaller, builders. Just my $.02, but that's what I think.
Congratulations to the winners, very much makes me want to learn skills beyond building kits. Ben, keep participating. You are one of the best and need to compete with the best. Makes everyone better. P.S. your website gives a "Nonce Error" when trying to register. Might be impacting the number of ticket sales.
Deserving winners, Tye and Izak my personal favourites. Big shout out though to Pask Makes, I’m a huge fan of Neil Paskin, one of the most entertaining and creative makers on TH-cam, he had the courage to give it a go despite knowing nothing about guitars, and he pulled off an amazing result! Thanks again Ben and Crimson for making the GGBO possible, long may it continue 😊
…and FWIW, Ben I think you need to step out of the competition for 2023. We love you for your skills and vision - perhaps do a kit build next year and auction it off for your charity, but remove it from the voting ?
JFYI. When I tried to enter the drawings, no matter which payment method I provided (I tried different cards from different banks), your payment processor insisted my bank rejected the charges. They didn't, because the apps notify me when that happens, and I use those all the time. I eventually gave up. Maybe folks from the US can't enter the drawings? Or maybe you can support PayPal next year? I went to your main CCG site to try to find a way to contact you to report it, but couldn't find anything. But because I visited, I did get those weird "Are you looking for something?" big-brother-is-watching-you emails from you all. Yes, I was looking for a way to report a site bug. :)
Everything is stunning, I'd buy them all. One thing, I may be wrong, but you listed Neil Paskin from Pask Makes as from United States... Isn't he from Australia?
I agree with your reservations about competing. You do have an unfair advantage because humans cannot avoid bias. It’s part of how our brain works. Your profile increases the bias toward your build.
I can see where you're coming from with not wanting to be in the running for your own competition. I would say, even if you don't compete, I hope you still make a guitar for charity for GGBO. (Like, not part of the running, but still a build to be given away for charity)
I have an aversion (somewhat) to the guitar platform being usurped as an exhibition of artfulness. I have taken an inverted approach and designed a n electric guitar based upon playability with heavy emphasis on ergonomic concerns. The artfulness lies in melding beauty with (and never to the sacrifice of) engineering concerns. Not just manufacturing simplicity for the sake of driving the bottom line for mass distribution but serving the real needs of the player over all other considerations. How does guitar design (electric or otherwise) achieve yielding itself more to the potential payer? How artfully are the aspects of design correlated to meet that end? How successful is the resulting design in inviting a player to pick it up? How effortlessly is the artist drawn to create with the instrument? Does the instrument design further the development of the concept of design supporting playing? These are the questions which must be answered before, during, and after each build. I am awaiting delivery of the first prototype and working closely in collaboration with the builder allowing each of us to grow toward each other and bring each or our best to bear.
I enjoyed all the builds that i watched, which was most of them i think. However, it seems like yourself (Ben) and anyone with something like 'Guitar' in their shop name should be in the Professional group, rather than Invitational group?
I understand your feelings about entering your own contest, but I love the permission it gives you to practice unbidden experimentation. If you still build something you’re dying to try, but otherwise don’t have the occupational latitude to build during the rest of the year, and just auction it off for charity rather than entering it the contest, that may be a way to mitigate the concern. However, if you feel you would not build a guitar or wouldn’t put as much passion into the instrument without entering, I say keep entering. Your contribution as a work of art is not something I would want to see go away. I really feel like every entry combines to make the magic if this event happen. Thank you for all that you and your family do to bring this together.
As far as you being “in the running” along with everyone else? ABSOLUTELY. The money your Entry earns is going to charity also, isn’t it?? It’s not like you’re pocketing the prize money! However, here’s an idea: You could create a new sub-category under the Professional Category! Call it “Ben Vs. The World”. The prize package could be something to you put together from the products you sell online! It doesn’t have to be worth much. Maybe your fans here on the channel could make donations to the prize package too?? And….if you do manage to win this new category, then the prize package…then goes to the person in LAST PLACE…IF….IF they promise to challenge you next year too! That way, the prize package helps them “step up their game for next year”?? OR…as an alternative….if you do win, the prize package goes into a hold-pattern and more gets added to it for next year? Kinda like a lottery operates if there’s no winner at the current drawing? I don’t know….just an idea or two….😁
Is there a link to the actual voting results? Ben, in the future, I think if you’re going to discount people’s votes and award someone a place, then perhaps you should recuse yourself from the contest…though I think yours deserved third.
I think you are right Ben, you being in your own contest is like Katy Hobbs certifying her own election. It is an unfair advantage, especially in the kit category. That should be for amateurs only.
I say stick around in the building. At this point We’ve already had you not win one. So keep it up. If it becomes a problem. Just give yourself a handicap (on top of your usual self handicapping. 🤣)
That was fun - thanks for having me! Trash talking with Brad was by far my favourite part of the invitationals
Congrats man! It’s nice to be part of the winning build for once. Thanks for the opportunity haha.
@@BradAngove A rising tide lifts all boats 😌
This was was my favorite build!
Huge thanks to everyone! in special to Crimson Guitars.
Thank you!
Eres un crack. Sigo tu canal y he flipado al verte por aquí! Muy merecido!

This is an f. genius idea right here. Is there a horrible job you all hate doing to make it 'interesting'? Lol
This needs far more upvotes, maintains competitive integrity in the main categories while adding a bit of fun
I don't build anything, I don't even play guitar, but I love this channel and the GGBO competition
Ben, I can understand your reservations about competing in a competition that you are involved with the running of. It just goes to show that you are a great man. Wouldn't be GGBO without your build, Mr Crowe, thanks for your gift to the universe
Ben thank you, I actually voted Pask Makes number 1 just being awed by what he made. I have found so many new channels through this competition. Everyone that participated did so well.
I just want to say congrats to all the participating builders! Thanks, Mr. Crowe. Catch you in 2023!
art,,,jewels...hard work...passion... we believe in music...we believe in all the guitar builders and .... we salute you
Congratulations to all the winners. I am a proud member of this community and it has changed my life. Peace & Love to all! Happy Holidays too!
Happy holidays!
I loved every second of Tye’s build. He seems like a genuinely good dude. Super happy for him. All of these guitars are so gorgeous. Just makes me want to learn so much more!
Absolutely delighted that Tye @shockthefox won! It’s a wonderful build among wonderful builds!
Fantastic field of competitors here and the winners were all well-deserved. This gets better and better every year.
I want to thank you! After watching hours of these guitar building videos, I did in fact build my own 8-string fretless Thunderbird style bass this year! I wouldn't have done it, if I didn't believe I could.

Great idea announcing the winners on Christmas day - it's a treat to watch! Congratulations to the winners!
Glad you enjoyed it! Happy Holidays!

What a good build off! So much talent and hard work to create so many master pieces
Totally amazing, Ben. What a great competition this year!
The guitar by Mr. Tyler is beyond ridiculous. An entire neck from ebony? Wow.
Wow! My TWO favourite guitars won!
Not that I’m obsessed with hollow and semi-hollow guitars… oh no.
Well done done guys! Delighted for you both/all!
You're a good man Ben. GGBO is so uplifting; the spirit of community innovation, the showcase of "hands-on" passion, the humble measure of chisel-wielding heroes. Thanks to you and your amazing team. The hard work in making GGBO fly is very evident, and appreciated.

I can't argue with any of that. I really enjoyed the pro and invitationals a lot this year.

Apologies. We have been having a problem with this website but all the links and information has now been restored. DC
insane talent from so many builders, but also, I thought the organisation and rules of this year's competition was really well done
When you showed the sliced mother of pearl I knew who built it. All the Mutzil lab builds are incredible!!
If you decide not to be in it next year, still should make a build that goes to one of the winners. But I see no real issues with you entering it personally.

Thanx............ The whole event was wonderful.
Oh I Love that Pask got credit for all his hard work💚🇬🇧🌱 love Neil's channel...

So happy to see Neil get third! I've also been a huge fan of his channel for a few years now!
Superb.. all the guitars looked amazing but would love to have the 1st place winner from the invirtational
Awesome builds, Merry Christmas from Barbados.
Ben, there is no doubt that you should remain in future competitions. Having said that, I believe you handled this perfectly by acknowledging yourself then selecting YOUR choice for whom to share it with. After seeing this it also occurred to me that maybe you should select your favorite guitar that did not make the top 3.
That joint 3rd guitar is gorgeous. When I saw it in the giveaway, I searched out the video showing it being built.
TIA, Jas
You have a good heart.
The voting system excludes you from being able to rig the outcomes. But, you could commission another party to run the comp.
Ben, you might want to get the infos correct of your invitationals. Neil Paskin is from Australia
I said he was antipodean didn't I? That means he's from Australia or New Zealand..
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars My bad. It was the Graphic shown at 08:42 that is wrong
Congratulations to the winners, very much makes me want to learn skills beyond building kits. Ben, keep participating. You are one of the best and need to compete with the best. Makes everyone better.
P.S. your website gives a "Nonce Error" when trying to register. Might be impacting the number of ticket sales.
We will look into this. Thank you. DC
Please email site@greatguitargiveaway.com if you are still having a problem. DC
Happy christmas!
Ben talking about the professional winners: “there was a difference of 4 points”
Holds up 5 fingers
Difference of 6 points
Really? Lol. I suck and math so bad!
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars I thought it was funny. Always entertaining to watch crimson videos
When does 2023 open up and how do I become a part of this?
We will begin working on the 2023 competition in January. Keep an eye on the TH-cam channel for any announcements DC
107 and 113 is a difference of 4 points ?🤔🤔
Everything is stunning, I'd buy them all. One thing, I may be wrong, but you listed Neil Paskin from Pask Makes as from United States... Isn't he from Australia?
Sorry. Our mistake, apologies. DC
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars No wrong done. You just had me doubting myself and frantically googling until I could find the answer. 😋
Hey Crimson, I thought that Niel Paskin was from Australia.
113 - 107 = 4?
Wait, isn't Neil Paskin based in Australia? Why was he listed as in the States?
Sorry - our error.
Love Pask.
I enjoyed all the builds that i watched, which was most of them i think. However, it seems like yourself (Ben) and anyone with something like 'Guitar' in their shop name should be in the Professional group, rather than Invitational group?
Thank you. That is certainly something to bear in mind for the future. DC
Jubbly!!!!
Hey Crimson, you have spelled I Like To Make Stuff's Name wrong. His name is Bob Clagett.
GO Neil
Friendly correction. You spelt Niel's channel incorrectly in the description. It's Pask Makes, not Bask Makes. Lol
Oh man! Thanks for the heads up. Fixed now
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars No problem brother! 🤟
"There are 4 points of difference", shows 5 fingers, and says it's 107-113. Never let facts get in the way of your passion :)
I KNEW it was PaskMakes! Haha!
Needs more basses.
As far as you being “in the running” along with everyone else?
ABSOLUTELY. The money your Entry earns is going to charity also, isn’t it?? It’s not like you’re pocketing the prize money!
However, here’s an idea:
You could create a new sub-category under the Professional Category!
I don’t know….just an idea or two….😁
Sounds like a good idea. Bears thinking about, thank you.
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars
You're certainly welcome!
